Disappearing Photoshop Workspace

Hi,
I'm a Mac user OS X Lion, Photoshop CS5. I'm not a technical person so apologies if i'm not using the right terms.
I used to be able to move the PS window about freely, however suddenly the main 'frame' is rooted to the screen. The minimise options are also missing and it appears the edge of the 'frame' is missing off the edge of my screen to the right. I can however move the two different top bars within the top frame (the one which has a faded PS symbol in it). I can also minimise the whole of photoshop if I open another application on my Mac such as Google Chrome. I do not have this problem with any of my other programs on Mac and can move everything about freely by dragging and dropping any grey bar at the top.
I've tried various things to make this work, craete new/change workspace, float windows (although i've always likes the grey background and tabs), standard screen mode full screen mode, changing the options in the interface section in preferences. I cannot however move (drag and drop) the main frame work.
The pallette to the side which contains my layers and effects options (icons on the side of it) which is usually to my right is also missing.
I'm not sure if there are some settings that i've missed having a play with, I'm just sad my saved workspace which i've tweaked over the past few months has suddenly disappeared.
If anyone could help, i'd be really grateful.
Thanks,
Michelle

here are some images that should better describe my issue.
the layout i was previously using had the following features
Photoshop window chromei could resize move and minimize the entire workspace.
Tabs across the top with all open files
fully visible right panel (with layers etc)
Due to an accidental keyboard shortcut or something, i cannot get all of these items back on one screen.
Below are images that show two different screen modes and my photoshop preferences.
thanks for your help!

  • Make text and icons in address bar, tool palet etc. bigger in photoshop workspace?

    Hi.
Im new to Photoshop so this is a fundamental question. My eyes arn't that great and I find the icons and text in the photoshop workspace very small. I'm sure when I become familiar with them this will be no problem but in the learning phase I find it difficult. I have watched many Utube tutorial videos and notice they have much larger Icons and text (on the actual application itself, not the work pane) and this makes it much easier.
I remember actually doing this myself but that was several weeks ago, I remember thinking, "I should remember this," but of course I've forgotten and it's frustrating the hell out of me.
I'm sure it would take me hours to find again by myself and would appreciate it if someone could tell me in a few minutes.
    Thanks.

There are many elements of the Photoshop UI that are of a fixed size.
One way to make everything larger is to lower the pixel count for your desktop.  If your monitor is capable of resampling (most modern ones are), everything will be shown larger, as the smaller number of pixels are upsampled to fit the whole display.
HOWEVER, running a resolution that's different from the "native" or "preferred" pixel count of your display (assuming it's an LCD) will pretty much ensure that nothing will be as sharp as it could be.

  • Photoshop Workspace Settings Lost Every Reboot

If Photoshop crashes, or if I restart my computer, my workspace settings are set back to default. Actions specifically, though other settings seem impacted intermittently. Add-ons (purchased actions) disappear. Any ideas would be appreciated.
On an aside, the removal of the 'oil paint' filter from CS6 to CC is really disappointing.
    Thank you.

  • Extensions disappear after workspace change

I changed my workspace and now all my extensions have disappeared. Server Behaviors, menus, tag behaviors, all gone. The Extension manager still shows them all as installed.
Why did they disappear and is there a way to get them back that does not involve reinstalling every one of them? Perhaps a way to force a refresh of what is installed?
I deleted the cache file and that did not make a difference.
    Any help appreciated.
    Steven

Well, I didn't just let it, I told it to update. I was pretty well backed up, but the problem was not immediately visible to me.
I basically did just what your link suggests. I re-enabled all the extensions. Some failed and I re-installed those. Some were missing, and I had to find those.
The of course is the pain of activating all those extensions.
I found that my configuration folder must have been read as corrupt. It was renamed Configuration-1 and a new one created. Every time I tried to fix it, it still did not like my old one and renamed it again.
Once the tech support person realized the depth of the problem he asked me to hold for a minute. 94 minutes later, I was disconnected.
I used the time to fix the problem myself. It only took about an hour after disconnection to complete.
After that I received a support incident by email. It asked me to respond to an incident that had no information and just said "How to issue" I responded with, "WTF! respond to what?" followed by the information I shared here and a bit about my lost time.

  • Why the size of the tif file is different in photoshop workspace compare to the Preview in Finder?

    1. Why the size of the tif file is different in photoshop's workspace compare to the Preview in Finder?
Please look at the screen captures.
Bottom left panel of Photoshop's workspace.
    Finder's Preview.
    2. I have an imac with 8gb ram, and assigned 6gb ram to photoshop use. But when I worked on a 24mb tif file, photoshop was lagging. And at the bottom left panel of Photoshop's workspace, the doc size is something/1gb. The tif file is only 24mb, why is it slow in photoshop? I have a lot of ram.
    Let me know, please.

Thank you MIchelPM for giving me a very detailed explanation.
So I understood why the photoshop doc size is bigger when working in photoshop.
    Regarding to your questions:
    1. How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Not even 30% full, I even have a 1TB backup hard drive connected.
    2. How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
I usually only have photoshop or illustrator opened. Sometimes I ran 3-4 tif files at the same time, but when a big file (ex. 24mb tif) gets very slow, I closed all other files and programs, and "purged all" in photoshop, yet that 24mb tif file was still slow.
I checked photoshop's ram and cpu usage in the activity monitor. Rarely photoshop's cpu usage would hit 100. But when I worked with the 24mb tif file, it would used all the ram that I've allocated to photoshop.
But the myth is, my coworker who worked with the same file in CS4 with only 4gb ram in their imac don't have photoshop slowed down, when I have double the ram and CS6.
    3. What year, screen size, CPU speed of your Mac?
       I have 27" imac,
       • 2.9GHz  2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache,
       • 1TB (7200-rpm) hard drive
       • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
    4. What version of OS X is your Mac using?
Mountain Lion with the latest updates.
    5. What version of Photoshop are you using?
       • Photoshop CS6

  • Photoshop workspace and setting reset after CC update

    Hi,
I downloaded updates this morning via Adobe CC desktop app, now all of my workspace settings, preferences, extensions, brushes, actions, patterns etc have been reset to factory by the look of it.
I tried going to Photoshop > (my username) > Download Settings, it comes up with a progress bar saying 'Connecting to Creative Cloud' but then doesn't do anything. Anyone got any ideas???

Yes, it sounds like something related to the OS may have been damaged by the update. This is also a frequent type of issue we see on the forums. In virtually all such cases, it can attributed to a drive that already had damaged files and/or file table data. Replacing/updating as many items as get changed in an update (especially a 1.5 GB update) only makes the damage worse. Then the user "suddenly" has issues they weren't experiencing before.
First and foremost, if you don't have a complete, restorable backup of your drive, make one. You don't want things to get worse as you try and resolve the issue, or lose important data you have no backup for.
Boot to a separate drive (like the Recovery partition) and use Disk Utility to do a Repair Disk on the main drive. If it finds any errors, repeat until it reports no errors.
Download either the 10.10.3 Combo updater, or the full Yosemite installer (I'd go with the full installer). Reinstall OS X and test.

  • Disappearing Photoshop CS3 Files

A week ago, a user was working on a file in Photoshop and the file literally disappeared. No trace of it in Spotlight, yet it was there in "Open Recent", but still not found. Now, three more users have the same issue. They know they saved their files, and when they went to come back for it, it was not there.
Just to see what was happening, I created a file, saved it as test_file.psd. It saved - yee-hah. After modifying it once more, I wanted to save it again, overwriting the original file, but did not let me. Here's the funny part - I had to "Save As", which is fine, but when I went to look for the original file, it was NOT there!
These files are literally disappearing. Here's the set up: Mac OS10.4.11 client, network accounts to an Xserve 10.4.9 server. This problem has just started happening within the week.
ANY suggestions are appreciated, and thanks in advance!

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Photoshop workspace window too large

How do I decrease the size of my photoshop work space window?  When photo shop is open the workspace area goes to the top of my screen and all the way past the bottom of my screen.  This causes a problem because I can not grab the bottom corner to make smaller.  I als can not see the enotre workspace.  When I'm in motion mode the timeline bar at the bottom only show a tiny bit so I can't see what I'm working on.  Any suggestions?

What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
If your on a mac, have you tried clicking on the Green Maximize button to fit photoshop to your screen size?
Or set your screen resolution down to the smallest size i.e. 800 x 600 and then go back to the max screen size.

  • Resetting the Photoshop Workspace on screen

hey there i am a newbie aka noob
i have pressed this button http://i.imgur.com/8lRGZu7.png on the bottom
and my window wound up looking like this http://i.imgur.com/SK8Gf75.png

and all that happened so mysteriously
i know the problem is trifle but please help me get back to the old, usual one
    best wishes

    Hi,
See if going to Window>Workspace>Reset Workspace works.
Also, you can press the Green Maximize button after resetting the workspace to fit the photoshop window to the desktop.
That button on the bottom you pressed is to change screen modes:

  • Disappearing Photoshop CS5

I've loaded and reloaded Photoshop CS5 on my iMac four times. It runs for a day or so then disappears. Not appearing on finder. It's as thjough it has been uninstalled.

It could be some kind of disk or directory error. Try running Disk Utility, and repairing permissions and repairing disk if necessary.
I also highly recommend Disk Warrior ($99.95)  http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
I run Disk Warrior once a month. It rebuilds all your directories, which makes your Mac boot and run faster.

  • Photoshop Workspace See Through

I have just installed photoshop cs5.1 from disc on an Apple Mac Book Pro
Wden opened the workspace is not a plain grey background, but a view of the desktop, or a document that has not been closed.

It is just an application frame that is not checked under the window option on your application bar at  the top.

  • I've just downloaded photoshop and bridge cc.  I have two challenges.  First, I don't have a mini bridge option in the photoshop drop down menu or at the bottom of the photoshop workspace.   What could be causing this?  2nd.  From my old version of PS, I

I need some help!  I just upgraded from PS CS2 to CC photoshop, bridge and lightroom CS6 CC.   It is very different.   I have 2 initial problems.   1)  I do not have an option for mini bridge.  It isn't in my PS dropdown menu nor an icon at the bottom of the PS work space.  Why don't I have a minibridge?     2)   In CS2, I could doubleclick on an image in Bridge and it would automatically open it in PS. That doesn't work with CS6 (creative cloud).  Should it?  Its like the two products are not interacting as they should.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Jenwebber,
Mini Bridge is not available in Photoshop CC 2014. Please refer to below link.

Also as JJMack stated, make sure you have all the applications up to date.
