Disappearing Playlists in ITunes

I tried this question in the IPod Touch section, but no response. Maybe it is supposed to be in this ICloud forum. Here goes:
pr 29, 2013 11:20 PM
I recently bought an IPod Touch 5th Generation, with OS 6.
I also have an IMac with Mountain Lion latest OS. Also latest version of ITunes.
I synced the IPod with my ITunes in my IMac. At the time, Apple told me the songs sent to the IPod would be from the ICloud and IMatch.
After syncing, the IPod Touch had all the playlists which my IMac had, but that was more playlists than necessary for the IPod.
So a few days ago I deleted a few of the playlists from my IPod Touch.
But this caused those same playlists to be deleted from my ITunes in my IMac. I wanted those playlists deleted just from the IPod, not from my ITunes also.
I didn't realize doing something in the IPod Touch affects my ITunes in my IMac. (I mistakenly assumed it would only sync from the IMac to the IPod, but not from the IPod to the IMac.)
Can I get these playlists back in ITunes?
Not sure if this is the correct forum. If not, please refer me.
Thanks.

I am not sure that is correct forum either.
If you subscribing to itunes match, your changes on one device will/should replicate the other. If not (I know you do, cause otherwise the change on your ipod would not affect your Mac). The only way to get ability to manage devices separately is to disable itunes match (on ipod or on both).
All of that is JMHO, since it is probably incorrect forum.

This explains how to do what you want to do. It was written for an iPhone or an iPod Touch, but the process is the same for an iPad.

Older Zens don't support AAC, which is the format iTunes uses for songs.
You can convert from AAC to MP3, which every media player under the sun will play.  Here's a tutorial: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12519_7-10096807-49.html

  • Where have the "iron reps" playlists on iTunes disappeared to?

My gym used to put their seasonal playlists on iTunes ... that way when there was a song people enjoyed they could make a purchase.  However, I just looked for the latest playlist and can't find any of them.  Anybody know how to find them?   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, close and then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Creating a new playlist in iTunes 9 - crazy

When I create a new playlist in itunes 9, my song list disappears, and a window replaces it that tells me how to drag songs into the playlist I just created. What??? Even after 20 new playlists created, this window comes up offering tutorials. (100 milion people using iTunes, and we all need a tutorial on dragging songs to a playlist?)
So each time I have to go back and find the song I wanted to drag to the new playlist in the first place.
Anybody know how to turn this annoying behaviour off ? I sent it in as a bug to Apple feedback.

It is irritating and I haven't found a fix. However, if you select a song in your library and use the File > Create New Playlist from Selection, you don't get the window. You new playlist name is already highlighted so you can type a new name for it. And iTunes 9 has fixed the problem with not being able to create a new playlist from selection unless the selection was 2 or more songs. Now you can do it with only one song.

  • Playlists on iTunes are not syncing correctly with iPhone on iOS 7-only 48 of 134 songs on one playlist are appearing (all songs are checked and I've tried this both hardwire and wireless)...help!

So, I could use help from people who know mre about this than I do. I did a sync last night between iTunes on my Mac (latest version of iTunes) and my iPhone 5 running iOS 7. For some reason, about 90 songs in one of my playlists have disappeared.
The songs are all checked in the playlist in iTunes
The songs were all on the iPhone playlist prior to the sync
I've tried a sync again both by hardwire and wifi
I added a song to the playlist on iTunes and the song appeared in the iPhone playlist, but none of the other 90+ songs came back
I haven't checked my other playlists to see what is there and what isn't (I have lots of music, so this would take days to verify).
I've thought about managing my music manually, but I would have to rebuild everything from scratch on the phone which would take days and I'd never get everything back to the right place.
In as much as I'm otherwise liking iOS 7, the new iTunes app for iOS 7 has been a real pain. This is what's really put me over the edge on it!
If you all have any suggestions that could help, I'd really appreciate it! The playlist I'm referencing most specifically is my most-used playlist and I'd love to have it right.
    Thanks!

    Hi oxman78,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Let's give this a go to see if we can isolate the issue futher:
First, connect your device and choose the "Music" tab. Next, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

  • Can't see my ipod playlists in iTunes

I created a folder in itunes in order to organize my playlists. As soon as I did that the playlists on my ipod nano disappeared from itunes. I deleted the folder I created (in itunes, that is), together with its playlists and the problem still persists. I just added a new playlist to the ipod and i can't see that either in itunes. When the ipod is disconnected from ipod, I can see the playlists on the ipod but i can't see them in itunes, period. When I add songs to the ipod they just go to the songlist, not to any specific playlist because I can't see any anyways. Help.

The problem is not about updating. When you connect your ipod to itunes, you are supposed to see the playlists that are on your ipod on the computer. In my case, I do not see the playlists that should be on the ipod. When you add a playlist to the ipod you are supposed to see those playlists in itunes. While I do see them on the ipod when I disconnect it from itunes, I do not see them when the ipod is connected to itunes. It is making the process of organizing my music impossible. So the problem is not with automatic or manual updating. The problem is with seeing the playlists in itunes.

  • Is it possible to create a public playlist on itunes?

A couple of years ago, iTunes users were able to create public playlists in iTunes for everyone to enjoy. They would create compilations of their favorite songs or score, and anyone could go through their selection and buy it if they like it. Does it still exist?

Unfortunately, no.  It disappeared somewhere around the release of iTunes 11 last year.

  • 4 playlists on iTunes/PC; only 2 will synch

I have four playlists in iTunes and only two will synch.
First I just did a regular synch, the 2 showed up.
Then I clicked the songs in the other 2 playlists and ran a synch for checked items.
My previously synched playlists disappeared and the others did not show up.
So I did an unchecked synch again, everything unchecked, and the first 2 playlists showed up, but the later 2 did not.
    What's up with this??????
    Thanks for any help
PS I have not yet updated to the latest os for the ipod touch, I just got the ipod a few weeks ago, so I assume I am using the os just before this one.

Re-synched with no checking, and half of the songs from the third playlist showed up in one of the previously synched playlists.... I am so confused! The machines seem to be confused?

  • My music, apps, movies everything has disappeared from my itunes library!

why have all my music, apps, movies, EVERYTHING but a few files all of a sudden disappeared from my itunes library, and how do I get it back?!  I "checked for possible downloads" and it said all my material had been downloaded already.

    Hi miller2x,
One possible cause of an empty library is this:

Here's some information on finding the missing media:

  • HT203167 All my music has disappeared from my iTunes, what do I do?

I don't know why but somehow all my music has disappeared from my iTunes. I store all my music files on external hard drives.
I don't know what to do to get it all back onto iTunes (other than individually adding each song)

If you are lucky you may be able to recreate your library using the method here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If that doesn't work you can just add your iTunes Music folder using "Add Folder to Library", that gets your music back in the library but loses playlists and ratings etc.
Becuase this is rather a common problem, it is a good idea to make backups of you Library file from time to time:
    Backup the iTunes Library Files
    The library files are in:
    My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Close iTunes and wait about 30 seconds.
Copy iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml somewhere else e.g. into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
To restore, with iTunes closed drag the current itl and xml file from the iTunes folder to the desktop, then copy the backup iTunes Library.itl into the iTunes folder. The xml file isn’t necessary but can come in handy if the library needs to be recreated and the itl file is causing problems.

  • My iPhone disappears from my iTunes window -- cannot sync

    I can't sync my iPhone.
With iTunes launched, I plug in my (Gen 1) iPhone, and the "Gil's iPhone" line gets added to the left column of the iTunes window as usual, but then, after a few seconds, it goes away.  Meanwhile, my iPhone's screen goes to the green battery charge indicator for those same few seconds, then goes to black about the same time that my iPhone disappears from the iTunes window.  The "Sync" button never appears in the iTunes window.
    I have tried:
    Rebooting the computer
    Power cycling the iPhone
Unplugging and replugging my iPhone (Each time, my iPhone appears in the iTunes window then goes away.)
    Using the other USB port
Using a different USB - to - iPhone cable
I tried plugging my iPhone into my partner's computer -- it seems to work there.  "Gil's iPhone" appeared in the left column of his iTunes window and stayed there.  I could view my playlists by clicking on the disclosure triangle, but, of course, it could not sync.
I have not synced my iPhone in several weeks, although I keep it in its cradle for charging.
I'd sure appreciate some suggestions to get my iTunes and my iPhone syncing again.
    --Gil

Well, this problem seems to have stumped the experts.  I called Apple Support (so glad I got the extended AppleCare).  We expect to hear back from Engineering in a few days.
The process was so cool.  We downloaded two apps to run on my machine.  One (ARA, probably for "Apple Remote Access") allowed Daniel of Tier 2 to view my screens and point at things (but not click.)  The other (ACCD) captured logs and files about my machine while I went through the mechanical procedure to repoduce the error, which took about two minutes.  The files are compressed into two dmg files, so the enclosing folder is only 5MB.  Looking through the logs in those dmgs is very interesting.

  • Help restoring playlist on iTunes

    Hope someone here can help.
I was weeding through a playlist on iTunes, deleting some podcasts in anticipation of updating it on my iPhone, when the entire playlist disappeared.
I still have the playlist on my iPhone, but I am hesitant to try to synch my iPhone till I'm sure that the playlist won't be deleted.
What do I need to do to restore the playlist?
I'm running iTunes 8.2.1 with, I think, OS 3.0.1 on my iPhone.
    Thanks --
    Susan

Nobody replied here, but I found the answer from slapphappe, so I wanted to post it here in case anyone else has had this question:
    http://slapphappe.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/how-to-recover-an-itunes-playlist/
The gist of it is to create a new on-the-go playlist on your iPhone, then select the entire playlist that was deleted on Itunes (but still resides on your iPhone) so that you re-create that playlist.
Hope this helps someone else. I'm very grateful to slapphappe for posting that and to have recovered my playlist!

  • Disappearing Playlist

After installing iTunes 7.3.1.3 I discovered that although the names of my playlists still existed the songs on the play list did not. As I re-synced the iPod I saw that the songs on the playlist in my iPod disappeared. I immediately disconnected the iPod. I have not tried anything else. Thanks, Chad

I noticed today that songs and album folders were disapearing practically before my eyes. The songs were listed in my playlist, but iTunes couldn't locate them. When I would go look they were no longer on my hard drive. Is this a virus? I have Norton protection, but it doesn't seem to think I have a virus. Is there anyone else having this problem. This started before I upgraded to the latest iTunes and cotinued afterwards.
