Disappearing pulldown menus and more

This problem has happened before with CS6 but it popped up again this week during a very simple edit....and it's making me nuts. For example, I was working on a short 5-minute video with a series of short clips (XDCAM EX originally) strung together with simple titles and some Gaussian blurs dropped onto short title card clips. After a few minutes of "normal" response from my Mac Pro (3,1 Dual QuadCore, 16 GB RAM), the program will stop responding to keyboard commands such as Play and Stop via the Spacebar. If I happen to go up to the Menu Bar and click on one of the pulldown Menu items, the pulldown will only be visible as long as I keep the mouse key depressed. When I release the button, the Menu disappears. Here's a short video showing this happening:
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

You waited 3 months before bumping!
I have never heard of it before.
Does it only happen in Premiere?
didyou try a reinstall?
Did youtry deeting your preferences?
Did you try updating your Drivers?
What O.S vers  is it ? Does it need an update?

  • My pulldown menus and bookmarks have disappeared. How do I get them back?

Today, without doing anything to the browser, Firefox's pulldown menus and my bookmarks have all disappeared and I can't figure out how to get them back. I still have the icons for the basic tools, like the home page, but all the regular pulldowns, which I use frequently, are gone. Any ideas?
I have already downloaded the newest version of Firefox to see if this would work and it did not. Anybody?

If ALL your menus have disappeared, press F11 (you may have to hit the Fn key simultaneously). If only one or two of the menu bars have disappeared, hit F10 (again, Fn key may also be needed, depending on your settings). This will bring the menu bars back temporarily--until you click on something else on the screen. While they are showing, hit View/Toolbars and check whichever menu bars you wish to appear. Unless you have a deeper issue, this should fix the problem.

  • Disappearing context menus and tooltips

    Hi.
After updating to firefox 10 i got very annoying behavior where all context menu, selection lists and tooltips are appearing for very short moment and then disappear right away. When moving mouse over the invisible menu the menu is flickering, sometimes stays visible for a while.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Strange behavior (disappearing buttons, tabs, and more)

Very recently (within the past 3 days and long after installing 10.4.9) Safari on my iMac G5 has been exhibiting very strange behavior.
    Some of the symptoms:
    - crashes frequently for no apparent reason
    - toolbar loses buttons and/or buttons are there but don't react to mouse clicks; sometimes a standard button, like forward, will simply disappear while backward remains
    - text in URL field will become 'bolded' and sometimes difficult to read/blurry
    - tabs often lose their dividing line boundaries
    - auto entries usually not present
I have erased the preference list for Safari in my user library and repaired my permissions without any success.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for any help.

    Hi
Please post a crash report - when Safari crashes, the "quit" panel has a "report" button. Select it, then copy/paste the entire contents to your reply.
While you are at it, try the site from another User Account. If you need to create a new account, please follow these steps:
Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Safari is stable in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.
    Post back with results.

  • Anyone know how to do pulldown menus and Tabbed pages?

Hi I'm looking for some insight on the above. Any information would be much appreciated, especially if the result is Mac like, or like apple's web site.
    Thanks.

If you're really desperate, you can create a Fibonacci spiral using the tools available in Keynote: lay out a template of squares as specified in the link; lock them all; use the pen tool to draw connected straight lines between the appropriate corners; double-click on the corners of the drawn lines to turn them into curves. The result is OK, but not terribly flexible.
You're much better off using a tool that specifically draws spirals.

  • More info needed on BC Dynamic menus and using CSS with them

    Hi all,
The BC Gurus tutorial on Dynamic Menus and how to style them with CSS made no sense to me, unfortunately. The presentation was too rushed and the screen too small to see what was happening.
In a previous question I found out how to apply CSS classes to BC menus after a bit of a run around.
I was putting the # in front of the Item ID name and a . in front of the class name and this was not necessary.
I have further questions though, as I am still struggling to get a BC Dynamic menu to style properly with the CSS I have created.
    1. If you choose CSS as the menu type, can you set the font, background colour and rollover state of the menu items in the Dynamic menu section? Or do you have to style it all in the CSS stylesheet?
    2. If you choose CSS as the menu type, the option to say how the submenu sits under the root menu disappears. So do you need to set this in the CSS stylesheet? And if so in which element? UL or LI?
    3. If you choose CSS/HTML only, how is this different to the option of CSS for the dynamic menu?
    4. If you choose CSS as the menu type and if you set a width and height in the menu item, and then set a different width and height in the CSS stylesheet, which width and height wins?
    5. If you want a dynamic menu to show on an Android phone, do you have to choose CSS/HTML only and do all the styling in the CSS stylesheet? Or should you avoid dynamic menus all together and just use a UL list in the template? (I am doing a responsive fluid grid layout in DW for the template).
    6. I am finding that the dynamic menu I have done, with CSS as the type, does not show and hide the sub menu items properly on an Android phone. Is there a problem with the javascript in Dynamic menus?
Thanks for any help you folks can give on these questions!

.pacnew files are only created if you have modified the default (or a change has been made to the config upstream); in both cases, you should be looking to incorporate the changes.
It seems some new options are being shipped with lxdm: you want those in your config (turning them on or off is a matter for you and the man page to sort out)...

  • ITunes pulldown Menus blacked out and search no work

I am using the latest version itunes on my Windows 7 PCs. One PC is fine the other all the pulldown menus are solid black and the search field does not work. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes but the problem continues. How do I do a clean install of iTunes so it does not remember my old installation without reloading Windows 7?

I uninstalled again today, used a registry cleaner, and then reinstalled but the problem remains. I cannot click in the iTunes Store search box and search for anything and all my pull down menus are all blacked out.

  • Nothing happens when I click on any Help pulldown menus

I have a G3 iMac and use a Seagate 160GB external hard drive. I've maxed out the memory on the iMac -- I only have 500Mb left. Yesterday, I noticed that none of the Help pulldown menus worked -- e.g., when I click on Mac Help or iPhoto help, nothing happens. Also, when I try to open iCal, nothing happens. Do I need to delete some files and create more room on the internal hard drive to open Mac Help and iCal?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Use Disk Utility to repair Permissions. You can find DU in Applications/Utilities.
Click on your hard drive name at left, then the "Repair Permissions" button at bottom right. It will take a few minutes. This is normal.
Run "Cron" maintenance scripts. This normally only happens between 3 and 5 AM, when the computer is powered on. But with help from Terminal they can be run anytime. (Terminal is also in the Utilities folder)
In Terminal: (TYPE) sudo periodic daily weekly monthly (PRESS ENTER)
You will be prompted for your admin password - you will not see the password as you type it. Press enter again. Cron scripts will take a couple of minutes to execute - be patient.
Use Terminal to Update Prebinding (Optimize the System)
(TYPE) sudo update_prebinding -root / - force (PRESS ENTER)
Enter your Admin password as above.
You should restart the iMac after running the above tasks.
If you feel uncomfortable using Terminal, go to
    http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx
and look for "Onyx" (freeware) or "Cocktail" (shareware) they do all the above, and a couple more things for you in a nice GUI package.

  • Website pulldown menus

Help.  I want to use the Browser tool to view websites with pulldown menus.  If I touch the menu header on the website the selections expand under my touch.  When I relocate my finger to touch an item in the expanded menu the menu disapears and my selection is lost.  I have tried combinations of holding and touch with another finger but this only zooms the screen.
I hate to use the 'i' word, but when I try to access the same website on my son's iPad the selection menu stays visible after I remove my finger to make the next selection.
This phenomenon is even more frustrating on websites that use nested pulldown menus.  For example, try http://www.rapidotrains.com.  Then try to select HO Scale - Locomotives - FP9A.  I have yet to view this page on my Playbook, but have no trouble at all on the i-thing.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!   How do I access these menus with my Playbook?
    Thank you.  Dwayne A.

So the first workaround I've found is try doing a triple-click. I've tried it and it works about %25 of the time. If it works the drop down menu will just stay open.
Try doing a triple click and HOLD on the third click for a second. Sometimes even a single long press will get the menu to stay up
However, on the website you gave, it will keep the menu open but then it won't let me select the link. Try using Secure Browser and doing the same thing maybe?
    I'll keep looking.
EDIT: For anyone who's familiar with the coding in the browser, here's the source of the page for the section he's asking about. I don't know enough to know what the browser is having trouble with or what it's handling differently. People who have had this problem before said in OS1 it worked fine...

I'm having problems (1) selecting onscreen text, (2) resizing menu boxes and selecting menues with the cursor. I'm not able to select menus and move them. I'm not sure how to correct this.

    1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this

    which will correct the problem...

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • Many apps crashing after iOS 5 update and more. Think Apple will give me a trade-in?

I just typed about a thousand words and lost them. I noticed that my owned hardware list hadn't been updated in years and tapped on it.  The back button returned me here and all that was left was the title of the post and the tags. NOTE: SPELL CHECKER DOES NOT WORK IN SAFARI SO THERE WILL BE TYPOS.
I don't have the strength to type them again. Basically my 64 Gb iPad 1 is unusable in many ways after the update. I have lost too much work and play because of it.  It never gave me any trouble before and if I had the scratch, I would be typing away on an Android tablet right now. Long time user since iPod Touch G1 and have owned too many to list.
Big one, you can no longer charge with older or 3rd party cables.
WiFi dropped completely in further corner of the house until I turned on the dynamic indicator for the flaky location system that shows that I'm in every town around me, and some not around me, but not my town.
Filling in dialogs in Safari is torture, cursor often disappears. Tap around to find it and Safari crashes.
Key lag at times is so bad it gets a word behind. Scrolling in any app is jittery and jerky at the same time.
There are so many more. I typedmup 3x more but lost all of it. This thing is so flaky I have been using my HTC EVO more and more and liking it more and more. If it had a min 7" screen there would be no contest.
I don't want to give up my iPad, but it is always annoying me with its bad behavior, what good is it to me any longer?
Do you think it is too old to take to the Apple Store and ask for a trade-in? I once toasted a $500 Touch with a firewire sync cable and Apple gave me another, no questions asked. Do you think?
Just look at all the typos! I am a technical writer and it is embarrassing. Stinky keyslab+dead spell checker makes me look illiterate. Yes, the spell checker is turned on. I have spent many hours in the Settings applet in the last few weeks.

I have iPhone 4 just updated to IOS 6 as well. App Store App updates are freezing on WIFI. I've twice had to delete the app and re-install. Installs of apps are also failing, causing the app to be unusable. At that point because it is a 'new' install the app can't be deleted. So the app can;t be deleted or installed.
IOS 6 on iPhone 4 also seems a bit laggy.

  • Menus and Fonts too small with Panasonic HDTV

I just hooked up a new Mini (Intel chip) to my Panasonic HDTV-- 34" Model No. CT-34WX53-- using a DVI cable. The desktop shows up fine, but the menus and fonts are so tiny that I can't read them. When I try using Front Row, the pictures and vide are gorgeous and the fonts in Front Row are fine. It's just the fonts and menus in on the desktop and in other programs that are too small. Does anyone know how to fix?
Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Edward,
That's the price of having a gazillion pixels!
You have two options - send less pixels to the display or change each application (Including the finder) to show larger fonts and icons.
The lower the resolution option is easy and fast. The downside of "zoom"-ing the display is it may look blocky at certain resolutions and the fonts and fine details in photos and movies may be lost if the mac has to alias or scale the video. If you do this - you might want to enable the menu bar item for display preferences to quickly switch between the setting you prefer. I use one setting for actually using the mac and another setting for playing movies and showing slides in FrontRow.
The change the preferences to make the fonts and icons larger is more of a pain but yields the most crisp display and you don't have to change things up. I would start with Finder Preferences (select an icon on your desktop and on the View menu - show view options - crank up the icon size and font size.) Unfortunately - you have to do this in each application you use. It also won't change the menu font sizes - you might need an "extension" from a developer to change that.

  • Black dots in drop down menus and in previews.

I just upgraded my Mac to 10.9.3 and i have these weird tiny little dots appearing in my drop down menus and when I open an image in Previews. Actually, some images just look crazy in Previews with giant squares all over them. Any idea how to fix this? I have this same operating system on an older computer at work w/out this problem.
    OS X 10.9.3, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5

Is it only Preview that you are seeing this problem? If no, then it could be a hardware issue. Make a Genius appointment. Troubleshooting and analysis are a free service at the Genius Bar.
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
I am already running 10.9.3 so am not sure what good that would do
Running the combo updater often fixes odd issues. It's easy to do and certainly don't hurt.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.9.3 install from a regular update, just run the 10.9.3 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

  • Cannot click on sub-menus and notification prompts in Mircosoft Exchange when using Firefox.

When I access Microsoft Exchange web app from Firefox I've can no longer click on pop-up sub-menus and notifications that I could previous use.
For example, when I go to empty my deleted items folder and select empty folder, I get this notification (menu 1) that I now cannot click on. All I can do is just hit 'enter' to close the menus without actually making a yes/no input.
Similarly, when i go to move folders and get this pop-up menu (menu 2), I cannot make any selection, and the 'enter' to close method does not work. All I can do then is close the page.
I have tried disabling firefox's pop-up blocker but that did not rectify the issue. I can still use the sub-menus in other web browsers so this is a firefox specific problem.
Any help in identifying the cause and remedying this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Disappearing app icons - and that's only the start

Despite reading that the apps that came with my 3Gs can't be deleted two have disappeared - Safari and more worryingly the App app. Also when I sync my phone I am unable to sync to the apps stored on my itunes. The app page related to my plugged in device is 'frozen' in that I can't do anything on it - I can't unclick the sync apps box, move any of the apps on the screen on the right. All in all its a bit of a disaster and I've wasted hours trying to work out what to do. If anyone out there has had a similar experience and can help you will have my undying gratitude

Yes restrictions are enabled and the settings for the apps installed with the phone include App store but getting into it to say try to turn on genius for apps the bar goes blue for a second and then I get sent straight back to the page which says 'View Account' and Sign out
Also the Safari app icon doesn't appear in that list and I have a feeling it used to be there too
