Disappearing & Reappearing Portlets
We are using portal 3.0.8 with 9ias 1.0.2.1 on Solarsi. We have created a Portal page which contains three portlets. When we first access the page, randomly at least one of the portlets does not appear. If I refresh the page (with the refresh button on the browser) all portlets will display. The portlets are portal reports/forms.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have a workaround or word from Oracle? I have a tar open, but no luck so far in getting a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance,
Tracie Thomas

"Other" login option disappears/reappears. Need help preventing this!
I administer a Mac lab with 20 old 10.4.11 Macs. There are a variety of login options available on startup, most for specific grades in our school. One catchall login option is "Other". Once "Other" is selected, students have to enter their network login ID/password. This specific login process lets the 5th graders access their legacy (OS 9) keyboarding program. They save their work to their network folders (OS 10.5.8 server). Normally this works fine, but on several of the IDENTICALLY CONFIGURED Macs, the "Other" initial login option "disappears"/reappears.
This is a significant problem for the keyboarding class, so anyone who can tell me how to fix this problem will be rewarded in Heaven. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11)Thanks for the reply. The deal is that I AM the Network Manager..... and my Mac background is limited.
There are enough similarities between Active Directory (what I'm used to) and Open Directory that I can function in our computing environment without problems (usually).
This situation is just plain odd due to its sporadic nature, This problem will eventually go away when we replace the 10.4.11 Mac workstations and the really old Classic keyboarding program. Until then, I will check DNS. Thanks.
While I'm here, do you have any idea why I can't map a network drive from our Windows 7 PC laptops to our Mac OS 10.5.8 server? The Mac workstations connect to the server with no problem. We have one subnet so being on different subnets is not an issue. -
IMac monitor - desktop items disappear/reappear - applications pause
For about a week now, every 2 minutes all of my desktop icons will disappear and then reappear. If I have a folder open, such as the Pictures folder, it will close during this process.
If I am using Firefox or Safari or Photoshop, when the desktop items disappear, so does my mouse's ability to function on the application. I have to click on the application again for the mouse to function on it.
Today I was attempting to burn files to a DVD, but it fails because of this "refreshing" or whatever you call this symptom. Last night my computer did appear to do its weekly backup, (it said it was successful) but I wanted to copy files onto a DVD just in case.
Can someone give me some direction on how to troubleshoot this? In beginner terms? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
P.S. The only new things that happened recently that I can think of was that I did a software upgrade (think it was Quicktime...) and downloaded a Wordpress Theme.Sometimes, starting up in SafeBoot (shift key held after start tone, login window appears
and semi-normal desktop Finder appears; but this is in a reduced function mode) and a
'repair disk permissions' in Disk Utility of the computer's volume on the Mac HD may help.
And after that, or any other minor repairs done in SafeBoot, the computer gets a normal
restart so the rest of the OS will be up and running. If that does not help, there are other
things one may try and do to help it. The matter involves some troubleshooting and a
cause and effect approach is sometimes taken; or on other occasions, a user may try a
long laundry-list of things and hope some issue just goes away; if one or another thing
happens to work. In this instance, learning of a specific issue's cure may not result.
Some items causing a problem, such as those cited above, may be dealt with while
the computer is started up in SafeBoot mode; since extensions and other parts of
such things may be turned off. So, some items like Stuffit can be removed when
they are disabled in SafeBoot. Be sure to run 'repair disk permissions' before and
after software updates, since for some reason this appears to help the system.
Sometimes, just basic system maintenance such as repair disk permissions, running
time/date cron-like routines (see AppleJack download, or OnyX in automation) can
resolve issues that may otherwise involve knowing more about how the system works.
These kinds of tools, free to download and try, can save a bit of trouble; some of that
is preventive in that the routines can be done per schedule to keep the system well.
The bootable installer system disc can be helpful, since there are optional tools in the
Disk Utility on that disc's boot volume; ahead of actually running the Installer itself. A
menu bar appears in the first full Installer window with drop down menus in it, and of
these a few options appear. And in the Disk Utility, chosen from the Installer menu,
there are a variety of tools which can totally obliterate or attempt a repair to the HDD.
An 'archive & install' and then update the resulting new system to the latest version
of OS X including security update, java, quicktime, safari, and other parts would follow;
in some cases, perhaps extreme, this is one way to resolve system software issue.
There are others, but this is among the last but not least. Further study is recommended
before going the A&I plus update the new system folder route; depending on what else
is going on in the system as it exists now. If this archive & install is performed, be sure
the checkbox to save user account info is marked, so the new system will retain this...
In any event...
Good Luck & happy computing! -
Network folder opens/closes/disappears/reappears on its own (really)!
I have an external drive hanging off my Airport Extreme and accessed wirelessly. I just created a new folder on the drive to save some files I want to share with another machine on my local network. I copied some files to it (which didn't appear in Finder, then did appear. Wierd I thought. Now I'm seeing the following behavior:
- Open the network drive in Finder; Folder is at root level.
- Every few seconds, the folder does the following;
1 Folder Name switches from all upper (the way I created it) to lower case
and back again.
2 Folder disappears and reappears.
- Goto 1
- In addition, if I open the Folder (either with the turny triangle or by double clicking), the folder will open, display the contained files list, and then close itself and repeating the behavior above. I've never seen anything like this before. This Folder is the first I created on the network volume since "upgrading" to SL. All my software, system and otherwise, is up-to-date.
I'm starting to wish I had followed my usual policy of not updating to a new version of anything until it had some shake-out time and a maintenance update.
Any ideas?
-ddsboth my mbp's ( clip ) within 24" of the AE.
That close? No walls, rabbit cages or steel plates, then I guess
Got to wonder if they are now stepping on each other somehow.
What channels/freqs. have you tried so far? Any bluetooth in operation with each other? Can you see any change if you take any cell phones out of range. Any new garage door openers or new neighbors?
I understand your apparent concern that this is totally new and unique to the 10.6.1 install somehow breaking an apparently stable configuration - just be sure to check the basics as you go, and try to only make one change at a time. Don't let your suspicions blind you to any suspects, etc. Troubleshooting modern electronics can be a real time waster, I know -
Desktop Wallpaper folders disappearing/reappearing in System Prefs
I recently upgraded to a 15 Inch MBP with Retina Display and I have a problem with desktop wallpapers. I migrated everything across from my old mac and when I go into System Prefs > Desktop & Screen Saver there is a list of all the folders I've added with all my wallpapers in. I've deleted these out because the wallpapers are no longer suitable for the new display. I've then added in a couple of new folders with retina wallpapers in and everything is fine. The problem occurs when I quit System Prefs and go back into it, all my old folders have reappeared and all my new folders have disappeared. Due to this problem sometimes when I boot up my MBP the wallpaper has changed to something random.
I'm getting a bit fed up with removing and adding the folders back in now, is there any reason why it might be doing this or is there a solution?I purchased a Macbook Pro (2012, non-retina) and I have the same issue.
I went to the Genius Bar, and we went through the same steps I took before (deleting plist files, repairing permissions). The issue is system-wide; My admi account, Guests, new Users all experience it.
We could not solve the issue. The Genius' best answer was that this generation might have a bug in its particular build of 10.7.4. I ultimately had a choice of waiting for Apple to discover the bug, or live with it.
I'm about to attempt a reinstall of Lion. I doubt it will help with anything, since I can't download a fresh copy from the App Store (apparently having 10.7.4 preinstalled means I can never have access to a fresh copy).
I'm concerned, as I have no idea if this sort of issue is contained only to this preference, or if it can end up screwing with me later on, say in the middle of an iPad app I'm developing.
The only work-around I can suggest: Don't close System Preferences for the entire time the Mac is on. If you log out or reboot, you'll have to set up your folders again, but if you never close System Preferences, they will remain. -
Menubar Icons disappearing/reappearing in a cycle
I have just installed Snow Leopard on a Macbook Pro. After installing I migrated my older macbook pro's data (also running Snow Leopard) using migration assistant from Time Machine.
After migration had finished I started up the new MBP to discover that the majority of the menu icons (less 6 of them) disappear and reappear on a regular basis. No idea how to stop it. Anyone got any ideas?
Mac OS 10.6.7
ColinNSMenuExtra-based menu extras operate within the address space of the SystemUIServer so faulty code in a menu extra could cause instability in a core part of the operating system. This seems to be a re-occurring glitch from reports I am seeing here.
try deleting com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
found here: usenamer/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
open terminal copy& paste the command:
killall SystemUIServer
and return. This command will kill the process and MacOS X will automatically rebuild the menu bar and associated plist.

Menu Bar Icons Disappear/Reappearing
My menu bars icons in the top right corner keep disappearing and reappearing. (Clock, language, battery, wifi etc). It seems to freeze up the finder while they disappear. It is very frustrating, any help is greatly appreciated.
This is the most recent report. However I noticed 20 or so with the title SystemUIServer followed by todays date I will post this following this report which is the most recent.

Fonts disappear/reappear; or none at all; messed up [SOLVED]
Hello,
Got a fresh Arch install running here, pretty sure I entered all the commands the right way, but am now baffled by the fonts and their setup. Basically, in a nut shell: sometimes the fonts show up and sometimes they don't!
Some font details:
*Fonts might not appear in the browser address bar at times
*a few of my bookmark titles won't show up (I imported a long list of bookmarks [which I know work] from the last Linux rig)
*fonts disappear and reappear while reading lines in the Terminal
*half of the fonts don't appear when looking at old paperwork in LibreOffice, (some of them are also blurry)
Some system details:
*Installed "ttf-dejavu"
*have Xfce4 and Openbox and have the same font issues when switched into either one of them
Excuse my lack of technical details, will provide more upon request, if necessary.
Any help greatly appreciated!

You should have created a file in directory "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d".
The name of that file should be "20-intel.conf".
The contents of that file should be:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
#Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
#Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"

IMAP Mac Email disappearing & Reappearing
I am on OSX 10.8.3 using Mac Mail 6.3. I have made sure allof my siftware is up to date. I set up my email to use IMAP not POP. It has been working great for a while but now my email disappears and reappears. I had like 50 unread messages and now it says I have eight. I checked my mail server and I have 50 on the server. Also, even though my email says I have 8 unread, when I go to my inbox, it is empty. Then, all of a sudden, they will reappear. I have run the synchornize command and according to the Activity screen it just runs and runs. So then after they reappear, I can read my emails, etc. like normal. Then all of a sudden it starts all over again.
Any thoughts/ideas as to why I am seeing this weird behavior?
Thanks,
ClayWhat sort of regular maintenance? No such maintenance is required. You don't have any of that "clean up" software do you?
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

Randomly Disappearing/Reappearing App Icons.
Since installing iOS7 on my iPhone 5, app icons randomly appear and disappear. Cannot find the Words with Friends logo under "Games" icon (sometimes there, mostly not there). Even my App Store and Settings icons disappear for a few hours, then reappear. What is the fix for disappearing app icons?
I am having the same problem as of today. This is happening to ONLY Aperture.... I have tried to restore my library using "commandoptionclick aperture", for the few seconds it is visible in my dock, but Aperture just opens right up.
Things I have tried:
Delete the two files:
com.apple.dock.db
com.apple.dock.plist
Open terminal and type (with caps and space):
Killall Dock
And
Moved: "MacintoshHD/System/Library/SyncServices/AutoRegistration/Clients/com.apple.doc k" to the trash and restarted before messing with anything. As soon as I restart and disconnect from the network I try to place Aperture back in the dock and it either disappears within seconds or disappears on close even after I select "Keep In Dock".
Someone help, I always am able to figure out this stuff on my own but NOTHING has worked and its only Aperture at this point which leads me to believe it is Aperture and nothing to do with my dock. -
Disappearing reappearing battery
I got my Macbook on the 15th and I've noticed my battery will disappear and reappear. It seems to start when I perform a complete shutdown of my computer and then later try to turn it back on without plugging it into ac power. The computer will refuse to turn on until I plug it in. When it comes up it the battery status icon will show no battery installed. If I unplug it after I power it up it will run off the battery even if it doesn't show as installed. Eventually it will recognize the battery again, but then later it will lose it again. It will cycle back and forth between battery/no battery several times without a discernible pattern. This happens while I'm running off the battery or charging or running off ac power with a full charge. It will do this for a while but then stabilize to normal operation either after a few minutes or after I've run the battery down to warning level and then changed back up then run off ac for a while.
I've done all of the system updates, and SMC reset, and my battery version is 1.2You need to talk to Apple or take it into the Apple store if you got it there. There is a 14 day return policy so they might be able to exchange it for a different one. The return policy doesn't work if it was ordered custom but you still need to talk to them. You've done everything you can on your own.

Since downloading Firefox 4.0b9, the Twitter website won't display properly—the page disappears as I run my cursor over it, pieces reappear in portions, there are lags in loading, etc. I've had to switch to Safari because it's so frustrating.

Hi there, I hope someone can help me. This all started about a week ago. So I tried a fresh reinstall from my recovery disk. to no avail. Ok I have Home Premium 64bit and it seems my icons in my user folders and subfolders and the actual file icons are
blank stand ard or missing. after a while they reappear to normal. the green progress bar in the explorer folders always lags and never fully completes. It hangs. Now I see that it takes 30 secs to get a program to open. Currently my control panel screen is
blank and my connection between my ipod touch 5g and my desktop is very slow at data transfer. I'm going bonkers! The only things I altered was turning off WMM in my router, Installed a software someone gave me (only to find out it was a crack software) deleted
that first! and used CCleaner to clean my registryHi,
So a total reinstall didn’t fix the issue?
We may take a try with the following article to make Windows a better performance.
Optimize Windows for better performance
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-better-performance=windows-7
Then, please check to see if any new updates available, also the related drivers, make sure they are up-to-date.
After that, if issue insists, please refer to the following article to run chkdsk command in CMD to check if there are disk issue.

IMAP boxes disappear & reappear, continually reload, subfolders move random
I am having a very strange problem here which started about a week ago, maybe someone can point me in the right direction:
1) I use both gmail and my domain's server email which load into Mail.app. I use gmail because I like their spam filter and I use their SMTP because where I am, my ISP SMTP server isn't very reliable. Gmail solves my outgoing mail problem, but doesn't support showing when mail has been answered and that is a useful feature.
2) My procedure is to open up gmail in my browser, mark and delete the spam (IMAP Account), then close the browser and open mail.app
3) I have a rule in mail.app which moves my gmail to my domain mail Inbox where I organized with folders and subfolders and use many signatures to send different email out to customers. Mail has been very good as you can do quite a lot with it compared to most other email clients for OSX. I do this for three domains, with several email addresses within each domain.
4) In mail.app, I can choose which mailbox to use for sent mail, junk, etc. This way I am sending from my domain, the email response shows and is linked to that mail so I can look for old responses fast and organize things by department. Spotlight or search works fast and perfectly. It's a good solution which I have used for well over a year (whenever gmail released IMAP services), or was, until a week ago.
Problem 1) As of now, when I open the mail account, the domain subfolders which should be below my Inbox are no longer there. If I look lower to the account folder, sometimes the folders show up there, sometimes they do not show up at all, but they are online in my web-based mail with my hosting company. The mails are not lost, but mail.app is not connecting with the host correctly as they appear and disappear randomly.
Problem 2) Every time I open mail.app now, most of my email inbox folders have to download all of the mail and their attachments again, even though I have the boxes in preferences correctly checked. Once the inbox loads all of the mail, then the subfolders disappear. This is very consistent. As long as there is no mail showing in the inbox, then the subfolders are showing correctly. As soon as the inbox is loaded showing mails, then the subfolders either disappear or move.
Problem 3). The mailboxes that my hosting's webmail service creates (like deleted mail, mail to delete, trash, trash delete, whatever, it's a Windows server) keep showing up in Mail. They never did that before. Once I deleted them, I could see them online, but not in mail. All was as it should be. Now they keep coming back every time I reconnect and I often have to reset which mailbox is being used for junk, sent mail, drafts, etc.
Problem 4). This same problem happens on all three of my machines, two being PPC and one Intel, running 10.4.11 and 10.5.5 respectively. The problem started happening on all my machines at the same time. This is also connection from three different ISPs.
Solution? My hosting company says that they have changed nothing in their settings (IMAP uses Port 143 and I do get a time-out error sometimes but not often). They have tried it in Outlook and do not get the same results, they say it's working fine. I have tried to subscribe in Leopard (you can't do this is Tiger, only in Leopard, but Mail.app says I have no subscribed folders, which is not true). The Quota Limits shows the standard Mail.app mailboxes, the Subscription List shows nothing, and no way to change it).
I tried Thunderbird and it connects faster, downloads faster and the folders are OK, but I still get mail folders appearing randomly. Sometimes I get mail folders appearing that I have not ever created with names like "System Mail". Sometimes I get mail boxes which are stored On My Mac which appear on IMAP suddenly. (Also, Thunderbird has poor signature file support, so I would prefer to use Mail, it's a better program overall.)
I have tried rebuilding the mail accounts, have done this, realistically, 25 times. Yesterday I did a complete reinstall of 10.5.5 just because I am at the end of my rope. Now I am about ready to change hosting companies as I am still having the same trouble. I am in the process of archiving all of my mail into Gmail so I can switch hosts if that is the problem. But, I would like to know first if that is actually the problem, since overall I am pretty happy with my hosting company. They are in Arizona and speak my language and they are easy to talk with. However, they do not have a Mac there so they cannot test my situation from their facility.
It's a strange problem in that one, I have used the system fine for well over a year with perfect results. Two, it happens on three different Mac used in three different places (office, home, and another person's home), and three, I have not changed hosting companies, I have been using the same host for two years and they deny changing any settings on their end.
The hosting company has no answer for me, they are not Mac users, and say that it's perfect in Outlook, but it's not actually perfect in Outlook either as mailboxes still appear randomly and sent mail ends up in my inbox randomly even in Outlook. They just don't realize it as they are not watching my mail boxes except when I am on the phone with them.
I am not having trouble with my websites. I do not have this problem with Gmail, only with my domain webmail.
I have to use Windows because of a particular shopping cart system I use, but IMAP systems should be the same on Windows or anything else. Some how, some where, some one has changed some thing. Any idea what and how to solve the problem?
Thanks,

Anyone else seeing Firefox disappearing/reappearing intermittently when under load
It just blinks away and I'm looking at whatever else is on my desktop, behind where it was. I'll momentarily think I crashed Firefox, but before I can do anything--it's back. This may happen several times in the span of 1/4 minute, and it's usually when I'm stressing my poor system and running short of memory. A brief freeze up, especially if firefox knows it's on hold by showing a throbber--is okay, but to appear to disappear is too much. It's a poor quality response and needs improvement... unless I am the only one seeing it.
Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
