Disappearing scrollbar in Mac OS 10.8

I recently upgraded my Mac operating system from OS 10.6 to OS 10.8. After doing so I found that the scrollbar on my Verizon email page had disappeared so it was impossible to click on messages at the bottom of the page. This was the case whether I accessed my email using Firefox or Safari. The problem turned out to be with the scrollbar default setting in OS 10.8: you need to go into Mac Preferences, and in the General>Show Scrollbars check the "Always" box.

hmm it may be a possible bug related to 10.5, I only have
10.4 and it works for me. Do you know anyone else who has 10.5 and
Flash CS3?

    I used IDVD last month. It has disappeared from my MAC!

    Where do you usually keep it?   It should be in your applications file.   Otherwise you will need your iLife disc.  All the same quite a lot of problems with ML and IDVD reported of late.

  • ICal events "just disappear" on my mac, but are visible on MobleMe & iPhone

    I have multiple iCal calendars, that are working fine, then just disappear from calendar view. The account is still set up, no errors, just missing. Everything is on MobileMe, my iPhone & iPad, just not my iMac. 2 hrs on the help chat with Apple & they had no idea what was happening & no solution. Anyone else having this problem???

    Same problem here for the first time today. One calendar disappeared from my Mac and iPad. It was still there on MobileMe and on the iPhone. I just fiddled around with the visibility of the calendars and they reappeared on the Mac after a while. On the iPad I did the same and it came back too a little later. Actually, I don't know if what I did was of any use and if it would have fixed itself with just a little patience.
    But what I do know (since I realized how the new system worked) is that I can't trust it... I'm doing twice weekly backups of all my calendars. I read (in the knowledge base if I remember correctly) that backups must now be done as exports of each calendar and not as an iCal archive. The master data is now all on MobileMe so Time Machine is useless unless you have these export files saved on your Mac. FWIW.

    Since upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto, iMovie and Garage band has simply disappeared from my Mac. HELP!?

    Hi Jdireen,
    As someone who uses the iLife applications on a daily basis on my Mac I can understand how it would be upsetting to have them disappear suddenly. Let's see if we can get you back up and running.
    You can download the applications again and reinstall them from the Mac App Store -
    GarageBand - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/garageband/id682658836?mt=12
    iMovie - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imovie/id408981434?mt=12
    iPhoto - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphoto/id408981381?mt=12
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • All my mail have disappeared From my mac and my iOS devices. Seemingly from the iCloud server as well. How can I recover them?

    All my mail have disappeared from my mac and my iOS devices. Seemingly from the iCloud server as well. How can I recover them?

    Well, you can't since the emails are stored on icloud's mail server.  Try this test, using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and check the mail page.  If they are gone, then they are really gone.
    Now, I thought I could go into a Time Machine backup and view old emails from a day ago.  Unfortunately, Time Machine doesn't seem to save icloud based email, since regardless of the past date I go to, only the current emails show up, not older ones.  My conclusion is that I wouldn 't be able to recover them from a TM backup.
    What had you been doing on the mac or device that causes emails to be deleted?  (I hope you don't have a family member or friend using the same icloud account - they may have deleted all emails by mistake.)

    Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) may help.

    Open Mail app and go to prefs and delete the MM mail account, then quit mail.
    Delete everything in username/Library/Mail (if you have other Mail accounts you will want to make sure you save the data from them as this will wipe any POP3 etc accounts also)
    Restart Mail and add the MM mail account back as a new Mail account with default setting for MM. This should rebuild everything and make Mail app mirror the server.

  • Calendar disappeared. not on mac,iPad,iPhone or iCloud!

    Hi All,
    First time poster!
    Calendar disappeared. not on mac,iPad,iPhone or iCloud! All events past and present. Any ideas? Have time machine but can't work out how to get it back and with all the server farms and even the icloud 5gb accounts I am guessing no calendar back up anywhere?
    Seriously Grrrr
    Thanks
    Carl

    Thank you for the heads up!
    I used the link as a guide but there is more detail required to make this work correctly...
    Turn off internet.
    Press alt, click go in finder and select library
    Open time machine and choose date you want to restore.
    restore calendar folder
    restore com.apple.CalendarAgent
    restore com.apple.iCal
    open calendar
    quit calendar
    log out as user then log back in
    open calendar
    all calendars should be present
    export the calendar you lost to ics file on desktop
    switch on internet
    import ics calendar file
    check any duplicates
    Job done.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

    I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

    Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
    I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

  • Disappearing Shared Places Mac and Windows

    I have 3 Macs and a Vista and XP box and a network storage device. Router is an Apple Airport Extreme.
    In the last couple days all my windows boxes and NAS dropped out of the shared area of the finder. I can still connect to them via "Go To Server" in the finder and typing in the smb address.
    My windows boxes could see nothing. Only themselves.
    Then as if by magic after a whole weekend like this every share reappeared and the windows boxes all see everything.
    I find it impossible that an issue with OS X 10.5.4 could do this but more likely the Airport Extreme router. I've seen a couple of posts regarding similar problems and I'm wondering if the others with problems also have an Airport Router.
    As I understand the problems of others my shares will probably disappear again at some point in the near future. If it's an airport problem it's almost a no brainer. I'll get another router.
    If anybody has any ideas input I'd sure appreciate it.
    John

    IMO it is not likely to be your router.
    SMB (Windows) networking relies on a "Master Browser" service to enable the various devices to "see" each other when browsing the network. The Master Browser is elected from the various devices on the network.
    Problems can occur if all machines defer to a device as the Master, but the Master does not have a proper picture of the network
    In this case, it is possible that another machine has taken over the Master role, and things are now working again. Perhaps a device got restarted?
    You can use Terminal to identify the Master Browser. Simply open it up and enter
    *nmblookup -M YOURWORKGROUPNAME*
    (you should substitute the name of your workgroup or domain for YOURWORKGROUPNAME above).
    This will give you the identity of the Master.

  • Disappearing Scrollbars

    Hi,
    I have a problem with the JScrollPane.
    When adding some components to a panel inside a JScrollPane whereby most components are invisible at the start and made visible by user actions, the scrollbars disappear when making components visible.
    More precisely, I always resize the whole frame when making a component visible. If the frame is too big to fit on the screen, they first appear, but when making one more component visible, they disappear again.
    Very strange is also, that when I minimize the dialog and then maximize it again, they reappear again. This sounds like a bug for me...
    Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I'm using Java 1.6.0.
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.Font;
    import java.awt.GridBagConstraints;
    import java.awt.GridBagLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.List;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.JScrollPane;
    import javax.swing.JToolBar;
    public class ScrollBarTest
         public static void main(String[] args)
              final JFrame frame = new JFrame("ScrollBar Test");
              frame.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
              Font font = new Font(Font.DIALOG, Font.PLAIN, 80);
              JPanel panel = new JPanel(new GridBagLayout());
              GridBagConstraints cons = new GridBagConstraints();
              cons.gridwidth = GridBagConstraints.REMAINDER;
              final List<JLabel> labels = new ArrayList<JLabel>(20);
              for (int i = 0; i < 20; i++)
                   JLabel label = new JLabel("Label " + i);
                   label.setFont(font);
                   labels.add(label);
                   if (i > 0)
                        label.setVisible(false);
                   panel.add(label, cons);
              frame.add(new JScrollPane(panel), BorderLayout.CENTER);
              JToolBar toolbar = new JToolBar();
              JButton button = new JButton("Klick");
              button.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
                   int     firstInvisible     = 1;
                   @Override
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                        labels.get(firstInvisible).setVisible(true);
                        firstInvisible++;
                        frame.pack();
              toolbar.add(button);
              frame.add(toolbar, BorderLayout.NORTH);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }

    If the frame is too big to fit on the screen, they first appear, but when making one more component visible, they disappear again.I reset the maximum frame height and it works the way I would expect it to. That is the frame height doesn't change and scrollbars appear.
    frame.pack();
    GraphicsEnvironment env = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
    Rectangle bounds = env.getMaximumWindowBounds();
    int height = bounds.height;
    Dimension d = frame.getSize();
    if (d.height > height)
         d.height = height;
         frame.setSize(d);
    }

    Please help! any ideas?!

    Hi,
    Adobe Flash Player is a plugin that allows browsers such as Firefox to display Flash media on web pages.
    Open your simulation in web browser, if there is any flash content , it will display in that.
    I hope, I was able to answer your question if not then please provide some more information on this.
    Regards,

    It happens if you click the icon on the Dock and then drag it off the dock before you let go of the mouse button. It will disappear in a puff of smoke. Try it, now that you know how to replace it.
