Disappearing Sound Track on Video Files Downloaded on CS4

Dear friends on the forum;
I have a Sony PD 150 camcorder. I took several videos on it which I subsequently downloaded to my PC (using Windows XP, Home Edition). I recall trying to increase the sound volumne on a couple of them, without a lot of success. Anyway, when I went to check these files today I found that the sound track was non-existent!
Can anyone shed light as to why this happened, how I can prevent it happening in future and if I can somehow retrieve the missing sound track?

I tried making the media off-line then re-linking it to the video file on my hard drive but no luck, Hunt. My audio is indeed flatlline; no sound both in the source and on the timeline. Is there any hope, do you think or should I just chalk this one up to experience and be careful not to do any copy/pasting. I consider this a serious flaw in Adobe.

What was supposed to have (hopefully) happened?
You should have gotten the Link Media dialog to fix your Audio.
Now, Copy/Paste has been known to "loose" the Audio. It does not always happen, and sometimes it seems to work for a bit, and then the Audio goes flatline. Re-Linking the Media usually works fine.
Is your Audio "flatline?" When you Dbl-click on it, does it open in the Source Monitor with a Waveform? Does it play OK in the Source Monitor and not the Timeline, or both?

Hello. I can see my mts video files in Lightroom 4, but however they do not have sound. Is there anything that I could do to have the sound? (The sound is working for videos that I made with my Nikon 3100 camera, but not for the videos that I made with my Sony camera.) Also, is there a way to light the video files from Lightroom 4 to Adobe Premiere, as Adobe Premiere seems to have more editing capabilities and plays the sound from my Sony videos?

So, my understanding is that Lightroom does not support the codec used by Sony. Is there any plan in supporting it in the future?

Creating (sharing) a video with a sound-track as .wmv file, no sound track. Any ideas?

I'm a new user, and I have imported a video file (created by PowerPoint, and a sound-track (created by Cubase software from Steinberg.
When I view the video within Premiere Elements it's all there - video and audio both. However, when I try to create an external .wmv file (Publish+Share), I don't get any audio.
Set up is Windows PC running Windows XP SP3, with 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GByte hard drive. Premiere Elements version is 11.0
What I'm doing:
I imported the input video file and dropped it on the main Video1 timeline. Then I dropped the finished sound-track on Audio 1. When I click Play, I hear the sound-track and see the video. To Publish+Share, I select Computer from the drop-down menu. Then, in the location and settings list I select Windows Media.I choose 720*480 pixels, 4:3 aspect ration and 29.97 frames per second. In the Advanced.. panel, I make certain that Export Video and Export Audio are both checked. Ther dialog box reports that it will create a 174 MByte file, with 440 kbps/ 96 kHz audio in a 2-channel configuration.
So I click Save, and the program hems and haws for about 34 minutes, and says it's done. All I get is the video - in a 16.414 MByte file (the original input file, also .wmv was only 9.1 MBytes), so something must have happened. However, all I get is video, and no sound-track.
I'm totally convinced that the problem lies between my ears, but I'd like to hear someone provide some guidance. I've missed the deadline for an important project, and I don't want to slip any further :-(

Let us back track through the details.
Premiere Elements 11 on Windows XP 32 bit.
What are the video compression and file extension of the file created in PowerPoint? What version PowerPoint? What is the frame size and frame rate?
What are the audio compression and file extension (mp3 or .wav) of the audio created with this Cubase software? Are you dealing with mono, stereo, or 5.1 channel?
From your description, it sounds like you are letting version 11 set the project preset for you. What is it setting? We can find that out from the reading under Edit Menu/Project Settings/General - Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio, even if the fields appear to be grayed out.
If you import your .wmv export back into the Premiere Elements project, do you see content in both the video and audio tracks? If so, do both play back when you press the play button of the Edit area monitor?
Have you checked Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and ASIO and have you checked out your audio in the Edit area with the Audio Meter opened to verify sound level? See Window Menu/Audio Meters.
Is the problem confined to this PowerPoint video and Cubase audio? What happens if you try this with a video from your camera and soundtrack from one of the SmartSound soundtracks?
Please review the above and then let us know the answers to the questions.

IMovie HD doesn't recognize sound track from MPEG1 files

My camera creates MPEG1 files which IMovie HD doesn't recognize the sound track. The Apple Store tech told me to purchase Quicktime Pro & save my files as MPEG4. After doing so IMovie finds no audio source.
Also I tried to reinstall IMovie (not HD) which worked fine, but it won't reinstall.
What to do?

How to move sound track with video to another drive

If I want to work on a project on another Mac, I copy the iMovie Events and Projects folders to a portable drive, then drag them into the correct folders of the other Mac. (Not sure if this is the best way, but it works.) But the sound track is missing if I don't have the same songs in that Mac's iTunes. What's the best way to keep the song with the project when I transfer to another Mac?

I tried the Consolidate command, and I see how it works, copying the events or clips to another >drive. But how does the music track get transferred? I don't see it in the copied folder.
If you followed the instructions, the music track is there. It is probably in the Project file. If you right click on the RCPROJECT file, select "Show Package Contents" and see if you can spot it.
If I consolidate from one computer to a portable drive, what happens when I plug the portable >drive into another computer? Does iMovie just see the project and events on the external drive? Or >do I have to drag them to the new computer's drive? What about the music tracks? Do I have to >import them into the other computer's iTunes?
Yes, iMovie sees the external drive, and you can work on your movie. If you prefer, you could drag the RCPROJECT file to the Movies/iMovie Events Folder and then run the Consolidate command again to move everything to the new computer, but you really don't need to. It should work fine on the external drive.
The external drive must be formatted as Mac OX Extended (journaled)

Loss of sound when converting video files

In iTunes 7 I am converting my video files such as avi so that I can put them on my ipod, but for some reason it stopped having sound. The video is still fine, but the sound is gone. It worked fine for the first 10 files or so and then it just stopped. Does anyone know why or how to fix this?

most likely you need to demux the file (untangle the audio and video). MPEG Streamclip is a good way to go to do this.
Export as a Quicktime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL (depending on your part of the world) and all should be good.

Premiere not showing all audio tracks in video file?

Hello,
The short version of my issue is that I am not seeing all audio tracks in my imported AVI video. I know they are there, but only one track is showing.
Longer version:
I have an application called Action! that is used for recording games. There is a setting on this application that allows you to record your microphone as a separate audio track. I made a 15 minute video using this. If i play this video in Action!'s media player, i can switch between my game track and my microphone track. If I play the video file in Windows Media Player, it plays both tracks. When I import this video file into Premiere (or Soundbooth) it only shows the Game track and not the microphone track. I cannot find a way to get to the microphone track. It just seems like it doesnt exist. Any thoughts?

Crackling sound when playing video files with X-Fi Elite

Hello,
I have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro running on a Windows Vista Ultimate system that have the Gigaworks S750 Speakers connected to them.
I noticed today when trying to play a video file that there was constant crackling in the background throughout the file. To try to isolate the problem, I tried a different file, and have found that this happens with ALL video files. Audio playback on mp3s or CDs is OK.
I'm using Entertainment Mode, EAX effects set to Theater, CMSS enabled and Crystallizer disabled, and all other settings as default. The configuration is set to 7. to match my Gigaworks speakers.
I have tried using both the latest and latest beta drivers for the card, without success.
Any help to resolve these problems would be appreciated.

Thank you for the response. I have checked it, and it says (i've dutch language) something i would translate to English as "System sound output". Is that preference for all discs? I would assume so. But DVD-player plays some discs without sound, and some with sound. So maybe it is codec related? But i would not know how to check that... (when i try to see what codec, audio says it is dts, and i assume dts audio should be no problem?)

Add a 2 channel track to video file

I have a WD TV Lube Hub media center hooked up to my TV/surround system in the living room, and it's loaded with movies, all in mkv container, DTS or DD 5.1 sound.
I've been using iVI Pro/iFlicks/Road Movie to convert them for iPad, using pass-through video conversion settings so they just convert the audio to AAC 2 channel and leave the video as-is, and re-container it. Very quick, and works a treat.
Problem is, it means I end up with 2 copies of the same movie on the drive (1 with a DTS/DD 5.1 audio track, 1 with a 2 channel AAC audio track).
Is there any of simply inserting the 2 channel AAC track into the existing movie file so it'll play on iPad?
I don't want to simply use the AAC 2 channel version of the movie for everything and delete the other one, because if I decide to watch the movie on the TV in the living room I then won't have DTS/DD 5.1 surround sound.

I agree with Karsten.
What I would do in this case would be to create the first movie in iMovie. Then use FILE/DUPLICATE to create a duplicate of the project. I would then add the second audio track to this duplicate.
You could either mute the original audio track so you just hear the commentary, or you could use the ducking feature so that you can hear the original track at a softer volume while hearing the commentary track at full volume.
You would then need to share both projects to iTunes. You would have two distinct movies on your TV.
Here is a good video tutorial for how audio works in iMovie.

HT1491 Why can I not hear the sound on a video I downloaded from iTunes on my ipad

I downloaded the new episode of Sons Of Anarchy and I can't hear it. It looks fine though. I bought the season pass and was able to watch and hear the other episodes.

There is no way to access videos directly from the lock screen.

In most cases, it should work fine, without the need for any additional codecs. I've successfully imported FLVs containing both Sorenson Spark and On2 VP6-encoded video, and MP4/F4Vs containing H.264-encoded video. I've had no issues doing basic editing on these sources and exporting them to a new destination, with the obvious caveat that you're (usually) dealing with highly-compressed video, and the quality will drop in varying degrees.

Importing Video Files from DVD and the net onto final cut express 4

2 questions:
1st: Ive imported a video file downloaded from the net to practice editing, but once I have done that, the video file has no audio? how do I get the audio for those files?
2nd: I had ripped some video files from my university film project onto my laptop, but I cant Import the files into final cut express to further edit it (because it was a group project), because its the wrong format and stuff. How do I fix this and allow it to be imported?

Most likely the file is multiplexed. That means the audio and video are rolled into one. Same thing applies as the other post, the file needs to be in a format that FCE recognizes. Streamclip may do it, depending on the type of file of course.

E 72 - Playing files downloaded from You tube

I want to play Youtube video files downloaded on my PC on my E72, but when I transfer the files to my phone through Nokia PC Suit the viseo transfer does not read flash files and I have to convert the files to MPEG or AVI. It takes a lot of time. Any solution?

Premiere not reconizing some of my Go pro video files

Hello!
I have been editing go pro video files with the CS4 with using 4 different go pro cameras. One of the cameras will sometimes produce files that premiere cannot play. Premi metadata tells the resolution is 30x30, even though the real resolution is 1080x960. The weird part of this is that some of the files from this camera appear fine.
Even these "corrupted" files will play exellent on VLC media player. VLC metadata also tells the truth about the file. (not 30x30)
What could be wrong ? How can I fix this problem ? Obviously the file itself is not totally corrupted or anything like that, since VLC plays it perfect.
