Disappointed in battery

Hi there,
Have MacBookPro, for about 3 1/2 years. First battery was everything it says it advertising. Easy 2 3/4 - 3 hours working capacity. No problems charging and all that. When it went bad after about 2 1/2 years of everyday usage I thought that it was all normal.
Went to Apple store and bought new one. After about year and something on second battery I can just claim disappointment. It never gave me 3 hours and it steadily diminished to next to nothing. Monitor says 210 cycles, 40% health and charge at 98%.
In reality, if I disconnect power cable icon on RH corner will never calculate capacity (H:MM) and computer will shut down dead with no warning in about 5-7 minutes!
If I press battery test button on the back it lits up all LEDs. Anybody have any suggestions?

If it's been over a year, you may be out of luck. What they told me at our local Apple Store is that batteries are supposed to last for 1 year or 300 cycles, whichever comes first. At 300 cycles, the battery can be expected to retain up to 80% health.
If your battery is less than 1 year old and is already at 40% health after 210 cycles, it's not performing as it should, and should be eligible for a replacement. If it never gave you 3 hours even when new, then it was likely defective to start out with.
Don't know if the Apple Store will be able to do anything for you--if it's over a year old, they may not. If they think the battery is defective and always was defective, maybe they would--I really don't know. Store policies in Canada seem to be different than US store policies when it comes to batteries. They can, however, do a battery check, which will likely just confirm that your battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
It sounds like you do need a new battery. Hopefully the next one will work properly. If not, be sure to take it back while it's in its warranty period.
Good luck!

  • Issue with battery in settings (not reading correctly)

I am very disappointed in battery life but I am getting NO help from the interal battery meter on the.  Any solution from Samsung or Google on this?  Check out the screen capture to see what I mean...  Says Discharging and is showing wrong info...

Turn the device off then plug it into the AC outlet until it shows it's full.  Unplug the device then turn it on.  Plug it back in and let it charge.  Make SURE in the battery settings it is showing up as Charging(AC) and not Charging(USB).  If it says Charging(USB) and it's plugged into an outlet then your cable is faulty.
Ironically both my GSM and LTE versions came with bad usb cords.

  • VoiceOver and Battery performance

I'm using new iPod nano with Voiceover. It more or less works (it has its quirks, but that's for another post), but I'm really disappointed by battery performance. I charged my nano today, and after one and half hour of using it, it's at 40%. I'm not just passively listening, but learning gestures, and finding my way around, but still... should it really be this bad?

I bought and Ipod nano 6th gen last week. The same day I bought it I noticed the battery was draining too fast. So I made a test>
As advertised the Ipod nano SHOULD give 24 hours of continuos playback.
I fully charged the Ipod battery on my computer.
I let the ipod playing music by itself, volume at half capacity.
After 6 hours the battery had lost 50% of the battery.
After 11 hours and 6 minutes the battery was almost drained (red color blinking )
I did the test 3 times and got almost the same results.
Im sending my Ipod back to apple.

  • Iphone5 ios8 battery life

I have had an iPhone5 since they were introduced, or nearly so.
My usage is consistent and the battery was sitting at between 30% and 40% at the end of my day.
I charge it overnight and repeat. For a long time.
I upgraded my iPhone5 to IOS8 like a good citizen.
Now the phone lets me know the battery is low then I loose it completely sometime between 6 and 7 PM. It shuts off.
My usage has not changed appreciably. Really! Nothing new. Pretty routine.
I've gone thru the settings and turned stuff off, although I did not need to before.
I do get a bit of improvement, but then it won't work in the car, the WiFi in the office won't work and the localization with the Weather is crippled.
    Something is amiss.
Is IOS8 doing something new, unintended or nefarious?
Is there a means to track the power usage over a day by application?
Can I retro the phone to the previous version?
    Help will be appreciated.
    Mike

I have the same problem, even worse! my iphone 5 last for less than 5 hours now and everything is off: datas are off, location is off, wifi is off, all the apps are closed, brightness is very low....
how is that possible???? I want to go back to the previous IOS 7,
we need immediately an updating to solve this problem, I paid my iphone so much that I cannot accept this!
I cannot even use it for calls... this is not a smartphone, just as paperweight
I'm really disappointed, my battery has 10 months of life only

  • IPhone 4S battery discharging Way Too FAST

    Hello,
to my utter disappointment the battery life or better the life of a charge of the iPhoone 4S battery is deplorably short. I have read all the negative comments and I had been forewarned by the salesperson that the this might happen (he works part time for the phone company that sold me the phone and part time freelances setting up iPhones for corporate use. And in his experience battery life varies greatly depending on if the battery was treated correctly at the factory, what version battery it was etc. And in his opinion the quality of the components Apple builds into it's hardware (harddrives, batteries etc.) are not cutting edge at all – as one might expect taken all the hubbub Apple creates around it's products – but cheap run-of-the-mill stuff.)
So, I feel a lot like Apple does not live up to it's self-created reputation and standards of delivering top-notch hard- and software – for a hefty price, that is.
I have disabled as many of the location-based services as possible, only activating them as needed. I have turned off any and all of the auto-update, selfcheck, -connect etc. features. I do not receive emails, I do not Twitter, Facebook or whatever Social Media stuff to save energy. Still, the battery discharges at a ridiculously fast pace. E.g. a reminder message (displaying on the startup screen as soon as I unlock the iPhone – unused all night): 25% of the energy level is being used up by that. A lot of the fancier apps using location based services or GPS apps are depleting the battery within an hour or even less (hiking, biking, jogging appps). So a lot of the much vaunted versatility of the iPhone falls short for me because I cannot use those apps without wasting too much energy.
As I said before, I am very disappointed!

We've been to the Verizon store on Mary Esther cutoff in Ft Walton Beach three times now. The first time they said to make sure no apps were running and eliminate those we didn't need. We did that. The second time we were met by a person who told us no one had that problem and it was Apple. The manager then came over and was very nice, suggesting we try to backup the phone to our laptop, reset the phone to factory, and restore. We've done that three times. We've also tried renaming our router access point twice.
We go today and tell the female rep that we still have the issue. She says no one at Verizon has ever heard of it and there's nothing they can do. I ask if we could get another phone since it was under warranty (April 10 was our anniversary) when we first brought it in, or replace it with the insurance we pay $8.18 per month for. She said no on the warranty, and sure for $169 deductible. She threw it back on Apple. Clearly not happy customers. If I didn't have a year left I'd be swapping providers today.

  • IOS 4.2 - WiFi finally working again ... and then not :(

There's many reports of users losing WiFi with iOS 4, including me
My perception is that things went wrong with iOS 4 after Apple `fixed` the +signal-strength bug+ for iPhone4 in +iOS 4.1+ ... that's when WiFi-trouble began for me anyways.
I had almost given up on WiFi for my iPhone (d* Apple), until ... this morning I installed +iOS 4.2+ and found WiFi +temporarilly working again+ ... with some trouble.
    - All surrounding networks were instantly found when WiFi was enabled again on my phone
    - Logging in failed two times, but 3 was my lucky number
    - Internet over WiFi: no problem
    - An hour later, when I had left home and came to work, al was as it was before; no WiFi-networks to be found
    - Back at home in the evening; same thing ... back to bottoms; no WiFi
It beats me why I had this shortlived pleasure of WiFi, and why it was taken from me again.
+Anybody else had this, or has ideas?+
Besides that disappointment, my *battery had completely emptied* in eight hours time without me actively using it (3G on, no phone-calls made, no roaming) like it has done since iOS 4.1 when WiFi was enabled, but unable to find any networks (and trying... and trying...). It must cost a lot of battery (processor?) to find WiFi networks. Maybe the quality of my battery influences all this? (1,5 years old...).
Also *problematic signal* from my provider (T-Mobile - NL) makes my phone switch constantly between 2g an 3g.
I'm somewhat suspecting this issue is overall due to combinations of four:
    +poor battery+,
    +poor processor strength+,
    +poor signal+, and
    +poor software+.
Does this ring bells with anyone?

I don't know what precisely causes losing WiFi. Many people have this with different symptoms and some with different solutions. So the cause can hardly be unique for all of them. Some descriptions of what people have reported:
    - not finding networks at all (like I have)
    - finding networks, but being unable to login at all
    - finding networks, and being able to login after repeatedly trying
    - being connected, but not having the WiFi-icon
    - being connected with icon, but still having Internet over 3G
    - being connected with icon, but losing WiFi after some time again (like I had after upgrading iOS 4.1 to 4.2)
    - and maybe I forgot some...
Some solve it by changing their router-settings (b/g/n/a, MTU, CTR/RTS, WEP/WPA(2)/none, ...), some just restart the router, others go back to iOS 3 and have success and the +daring few+ re-flow their iPhone-motherboard by baking it in the oven (that's the only one I haven't tried ).
But most people just stay stuck without WiFi since iOS4.
The various success-stories indicate that the cause of this problem cannot be due to some single failure; IMO it must be a combination of unpleasantries that started with something bad in iOS 4 with some other circumstance(s) adding up to a phone not being able to WiFi.
What all of us have in common is that it worked without a problem on an iPhone 3G/3Gs untill iOS 4 was fixed for the iPhone 4. At least I haven't found reports of WiFi-problems with betas and the initial release of iOS4.
Just my 10 cents, but join in with our 10 cents we might figure out what actually happened here.

  • Sharp edges

    Hi,
I've used my PB 15" DL since November and have worked out most of the software problems I've had but here is something I wonder what people think of: There are some almost sharp edges on this machine (and probably others of the same design). In particular, if you press the delete key so that your finger is on the edge towards the right, you feel the almost sharp edge of the top plate brush against your finger. This same thing happens with almost any key as well. Try the keys on the left and you'll see the same thing.
The trackpad. Its edges are smooth but borderline sharp. The clicker has a sharp edge on my machine on its left side.
How about the hinge for the screen?! Quite sharp.
How about the hole where the latch for the screen goes in? Sharp. (And that's not even counting the two pointy things on either side of the top of the screen and the latch itself.)
Some keys don't respond as smoothly as others, I get the overall impression that while this is a very stylish machine, some corners were cut and the end result is not as "polished", literally, as it should be.
One other place that is disappointing: The battery compartment door. It isn't flush, it jiggles when you poke your finger at it and the worst part is the gasket that runs around it is already starting to fall apart! The compartment door has that same sharp edge that you can find all over this machine.
I tend to rub my fingers in these places to sort of temp them to hurt me or to dull them but they shouldn't exist at all. Bad design I'd say. (And there should be, maybe there is, a thread on the illegibility of the keyboard letters and the symbols on the sides. Grey letters/symbols on a grey case are hard to read. It's beautiful but a case of bad design winning over functionality.)
    Cheers,
    John L

I had the keyboard replaced a little while ago (to try to fix another problem mentioned in this thread, amongst others: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=584197&tstart=0) and I now realize that typing is so much easier without having to notice (worry about) the sharp edges.
It is a whole new experience for me on this machine. I had used my Powerbook Firewire for a little while while the new one was being repaired and I was going to say that keyboard felt so much more comfortable, responsive but now this one is better so I have no complaint anymore.
I was serious by the way. You all were no help with your sarcastic replies.
    Cheers,
    John L

  • X2 Multiple message deleting and archiving

I recently bought Nokia X2 which disappoints me a lot.
There are 500 messages in my INBOX and i want to delete 400 messages but there is no mark option to select multiple messages.
I want to save another 100 messages in ARCHIVE folder. Each time I have to go through the options INBOX /OPTIONS /ARCHIVE which is very irritating. Moreover there is no folder creation in messages ARCHIVE folder, which is big disappointment.
Battery charging to taking tooooo much time and draining in very very short time in normal use(1.30-2h talk time+30min music+20-30 messages my battery goes to single point).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    menu...select messaging...select more.....choose delete msg's..
then select by msg or by folder........choose the folder or msg you want to delete
charging time on this model is slower than other models

  • Please, the battery of my mac air does not last more than two hours, it's been over 30 days I sent for technical assistance and nothing! I am very disappointed with the mac air, I had a very different expectation of apples products!!

Please, the battery of my mac air does not last more than two hours, it's been over 30 days I sent for technical assistance and nothing! I am very disappointed with the mac air, I had a very different expectation of apples products!!!

Maybe the problem is not your MB Air......
    Try these:
Make sure bluetooth is turned off if you're not using it.
Set your screen brightness to 4 bars.
See what's loading in your login items.  Delete the ones you don't need.
Open Activity Monitor - under All Processes see what's using most of your CPU's resources.
Highlight the ones with the highest %CPU and hit quit process.
Remember that when Apple says that your battery should last 7 hours, they tested it just browsing the web and not have anything open in the background and screen is set at 50% brightness.

  • I just bought my first iphone.  I am so disappointed in the battery life on the iphone5.  Have the phones always been this way?  Is there anything in the works to improve the battery life?

I just bought my first iphone.  I am so disappointed in the battery life of the iphone 5.  Is this the norm for iphones?  Are they working on a fix to this problem?  Almost wishing I had bought something else.

Without knowing what battery life you are seeing we can't determine if you have a problem. Have you compared your usage to the Technical Specifications?
Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
Standby time: Up to 225 hours
Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Under normal use, unless there's a problem with your phone, battery life is comparable to any other smart phone and better than some. If you've never owned a smart phone before you will be disappointed with the battery life on all smart phones. You should expect to charge any of them daily. It's a mistake to think of it as a phone at all; it's a very powerful pocket-sized computer that can also make phone calls.

  • Battery life on brand new 13" retina MBP disappointing

Waited a long time to buy the Haswell retina 13" MBP with improved battery life ('9 hrs wireless web'). So far I'm only managing 5 hrs max. And all I do is browse the web and some text editing. Anyone else disappointed? Not sure if I should go have it looked at or if I just fell for another marketing spin. I imagine being told even 2 hours is still 'up to 9 hours'. Grr.

I've actually noticed this problem.  Sometimes I'll have 10-12 hours and then suddenly it'll drop to five.  I'll turn off wi-fi, bluetooth, set the brightness to two or three and close all programs, and barely see any change.
Last night I did some investigating and found that the kernal_task was eating up CPU cycles, running at 100-110% non-stop.  I restarted the machine and the kernal_task went back to normal and stayed there for a while, and my battery life showed HUGE improvements.  I think it might actually be related to the keyboard/trackpad issue others have seen because I've noticed (anecdotally) that the decrease in battery life usually follows the unresponsive spell.
I'm planning to test and document this weekend so that I can report it to Apple.  I'd suggest that you look at the Activity Monitor for the kernal_task when you're getting poor battery life and see what percentage it's running at. I suspect you'll see it's high.  When it's running normally, I get crazy good battery life.  If you find it is, take screen shots and report it to Apple.  Runaway kernal_task is not a new probelm with a new OS.  It's been reported in most of the other major releases.

  • Battery swelling on my iPhone 5 and disappointed on the return service

Here's, the story. I found out my screen being expanded out of the phone frame, my screen got water ripple in it. I was afraid it was the battery been swelled, so I took it to the apple store in MI. The people from apple store saw my situation and said that it's because of the manufacture defect so I could get a new one. But after they checked out my phone's serial number, they found out it was bought from the UK. Therefore, they told me they couldn't do anything about it because it's from the UK.
They gave the 800-APLCARE hotline to ask them what to do. I got a really nice guy called Andrew getting my problem fixed. He was well known as what my situations are, but somehow he said his system crashed and has to call me back. But when he called me back, he said he still couldn't fix the problem, so he transferred me to a senior representative which I see the phone number was in SAC, CA.
The senior representative continued the process, NOTED: He noticed my phone was from the UK, as he saw my profile where he thought my phone was from France. He checked which kind of shipment I want to choose, normal or express, and then said that HE CHECKED THE STOCKING in the store I just been to, I can PICK IT UP THERE.
Well in the end of the story is I got back to the store where I went earlier today to pick up the phone, where HE set it up and made a reservation. But in the end is to go through all the things back to where it started. HE (the Senior representative) DIDN'T SET-UP anything but made a reservation. NOT EVEN THE WHOLE CONVERSATION was recorded.
So, In the end. I spend the whole afternoon, went to the apple store ( which is 17 miles away) TWICE in TWO HOURS!!, also looking like an guy picking on the nice clerks in the store.
If the UK-Phone can only be dealt in the UK, WHY does the senior representative told me to go pick it up at the local apple store? Making me wasting my time and effort going back and forth. I'm hoping to get a decent explanation and a phone that works as soon as possible.

Yes the iPhone can only be serviced by Apple in the UK as that is the original place of purchase, as to why you were misinformed about the procedure is unknown unless you were to get an explanatuon from that advisor.
See if you can send the iPhone to a friend or family member in the UK and get them to take it to an Apple Store to get it replaced.

  • I have a six months old iPhone 5s, it discharges the battery in 1/2 day without extensive use, 5 trips to the Genius Bar to no avail... Frustrated.. Ready to get rid of the phone, very disappointed in apple support!!

I have a six months old iPhone 5s that I use and have to use for work purposes, I have for a approximate battery life of seven or eight hours.
I went to the Genius Bar on five occasions and did not receive substantial help. I was told that I would have some applications crashing in the background but was unable to be told which ones they were. The phone is still on the warranty, but it's Apple tells me that it is not the hardware but my usage. I compared it to some of my colleagues and none of them has a battery problem like I do. I feel like I am left with a product that is not stand up to its specifications, and as a customer being totally left alone with a smart phone that does not even last through a workday. Any suggestions how to get through to Apple with this?? I was always very impressed with Apple's customer service and care up until now, obviously. Now Im ready to jump ship...

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • Blackberry classic battery is disappointing

i just got in my blackberry classic on the 3rd of march and sold my q10 as soon as i received the classic, i loved the way it felt and looked but the battery does not last at all barley a day is it something im doing because i barly use it drains as bad as a iphone, my q10 would last about 2 days but this think can barley make it throw a day pleaseeeeeeeeeee help blackberry

    Hi gababu,
The battery on the Classic is a definite improvement, I'm getting two full days whereas before I would get a day at best on my Z10 and my wife also only a day on her Q10.
The Classic has a 2515 mAh battery compared to the Q10's 2100mAH battery, so the Classic should perform better.
But it does take a few days to 'settle down'.  Give it a week or so and see if it improves.
Good battery management also helps.  Have a look at this BlackBerry Battery Management Demo:
    http://demos.blackberry.com/blackberry-classic/na/ca/gen/how-to/blackberry-classic/blackberry-classi...
Specifically, make sure that you do not have an app running in the background that eats away at your battery power.
The Classic is a beauty, I’m loving it more and more every day as I go learning more about it.  I’m sure you will too once your battery settles down and starts behaving better.  Good luck!
