Disappointed in Nokia

I'm quite disappointed in Nokia. I've been a loyal Nokia customer for over 10 years, and I'm on my 5th Nokia phone. But this will probably be my last.
I bought my Nokia 5800 several months ago, and found it to be quite a good phone. I then found in the Nokia Beta Labs that there was an app available for Facebook and Twitter, so I installed it. The software was great, and I used it every day. This made it the best phone I ever had, and an amazing alternative to the iPhone. Ya, the app had a few bugs, but they were bearable. But recently I discovered that the app was being discontinued. Not just abandoned, but removed from the site completely. Yes, they had warned that this may happen, but the beta was so good that it felt like it would be continued and released as a full app. Even worse, there's no quality replacement for Facebook or Twitter on the Ovi Store. My phone has now lost a HUGE amount of its functionality. It used to be a great phone, now it's only a decent phone.
The biggest insult, however, was that they said "Thanks for all the feedback. We'll be implementing this software in the N8." That spells it plain and clear: Nokia doesn't really care about it's current customers, it only cares about future customers. You take away functionality from my phone, and ask me to buy a new phone to get it back.
I don't know which other platform I'll be going to, but your main competitors are constantly ADDING features to existing phones, and have vibrant development communities that constantly write a wide variety of quality apps.
In the old days you could release new phones and forget about old ones, because phones were just phones back then. But now you have to support your existing phones, because phones have become everything to their users. Unless Nokia delivers a miracle in the next 18 months, I'm moving on.

Try this, you may like it, latest version is really good, and as for Beta Labs, the fact is that Beta applications are for testing and may be withdrawn, stopped or completed at any time, it's one of the downsides to being a 'beta tester', you may also like Gravity, but you have to pay for that, Socially is FREE

  • Disappointed with Nokia N8 and Belle

I have been using Nokia phones since 2000 and I was recommending it to all my friends. The last one I bought- Nokia N8 has disappointed me.
The  big + is the integrated GPS and offline maps. Excellent camera...
     Why disappointed:
     Price I paid- $ 450+.
    Since May 2011:
A big grayish spot appeared on the display after 2 weeks. Visible only when the phone is off.It does not bother me but still this phone is $450.... Now I can not cell it.
USB port broke after 2-3 months. Replaced- 3 days at Nokia Care point in NYC.
Integrated GPS stopped working after Anna update- 3 daysX 2- 3 hours online chat with Nokia Care and 10 days repair. The internal part of the phone was replaced. The display is still the same.
     Belle- improved Anna, but..
Battery life has been enormously reduced. Practically if you want long battery life- turn the phone off.
Power savings mode option has moved to the hard button on the top. Difficult to access because of the protector.
Google Maps is not working. (Nokia maps is OK but GM has easy access to public transit directions and has more business location info) Now Nokia Public Transit app is a step forward, but its still separate app.
     Many Apps are not compatible.
No short cut for positioning method directly from maps/ driving. You have to dig thru the phone's settings.
Anna's clock small widget with date is no more available.
No shortcut to the specific mailbox.
     Text messaging is confusing.
     Data log history is unavailable.
No "vibration only"  profile allowed when the phone is on power savings mode.
Anna and Symb had an option to choose when and how to connect a single application to the internet. (internet- always ask) Now with Belle its more complicated.
No shortcuts to various settings- dig, dig, digg....
Quick Office Pro (sold in Nokia Store) does not read .doc files anymore with Belle.
No option to add contact to group when creating it as new.
     Search widget almost never works.
     Remote lock does not work.

i totally agree with you. i cant get into half off the apps (the ones i paid for) mainly because it sends me to a link to download OVI when its downloading the file it then says its "unable to install ive done everything, thinking its the software of belle that didnt download properly.. a glitch in the software or i'd done something.. my phone it now being used as least as possible. the basics of this model (calling/contacts/messages) isnt as easy as previous..
after reading on here and many other discusion sites it seems like this model (N8)
DOES have a fault with the belle software. and needs to be sorted pronto
or at least give the option to refer back to anna.
this phone it well established to have so many hicupps!!
ive been with nokia for years think the 3310 was my first but my upgrade is due and im looing for other options - something i'd never do..

  • Very, very disappointed in Nokia

Unfortunately in April my Siemens S65 phone was stolen and the insurance company gave me a Nokia 6230i as a like for like replacement. I have to say in the 4 months since I've had the Nokia I've had a string of problems with it. These include the Email application which has stopped working so I now have to use a third party piece of software, regular crashing, poor reception and worst of all a poor implementation of bluetooth so I can't connect with my PDA. It feels like a very buggy phone. The firmare may not be the latest (it's 3.62) but I don't want to be without a phone whilst Nokia try and get it sorted out. Can anyone recommend an alternative Nokia phone that's very reliable? I'm interested in a business orientated phone with bluetooth (that works!). The Siemens phones I found to be rock solid and sadly the 6230i has been nothing but disappointing.

Have you tried taking it to a Nokia Service Centre? They should be able to look at it for you and usually fix things within a really short space of time, some will even lend you a replacement if it has to go in longer.
I still use my 6230i and it's a beast of a phone, love it to bits though I don't use it as my main phone any more. Yours may just need the firmware reinstalling / updating.

  • Really disappointed with Nokia Care

I bought a 920 around a month and a half back but few weeks ago the touchscreen and the capacitive buttons stopped working. I did a number of soft resets but it didn’t respond. So, I took the phone to Nokia Care and they did a complete system wipe and re-flashed the firmware and returned the phone. It worked for a few days but again broke down with the same problem few days back. The phone had stopped working on the third day itself but after a few soft resets it started working and didn’t freeze up once until few weeks ago where it stopped working altogether.
I went to Nokia Care again hoping for a replacement this time. But they reflashed the firmware and said that it fixed it but they returned me the phone with a dead battery. They made some lame excuse about not having the charger. So, I couldn’t check it there but they assured me that it was fixed. I went home, charged it up only to find that the same problem still persists. Now, I don’t know what happened there but I know it magically didn’t break down on my way home. How could they think that this will deceive me?
I am a huge Nokia and Microsoft fan and I paid a huge amount for this phone (around $800, which is a lot in an impoverished country like Nepal) but I am really disappointed with this. For such a high end phone, I ought to be getting a decent service. But this is an utter disgrace. Even the technicians are so rude. When I insisted that it was a hardware problem and that I needed a replacement calmly, they replied harshly saying that they fixed the problem, as if we having some kind of brawl. They even stated Nokia doesn’t offer replacements for Lumia series because it is a high end phone and very expensive. Now, this is nonsensical! Why are they finding it so difficult to replace the phone? Are they neglecting because I live in a small country?
Nokia really needs to step up their game if they want to capture the market share like Samsung. A similar incident happened to my friend’s Galaxy S3 – they replaced it without any issues whatsoever.
I had been recommending Lumia series to many of friends but now, after this incident, I don’t know what to say. This is one of the worst services I have ever experienced. I am taking the phone back to Nokia Care for the third time in 6 weeks tomorrow. I really hope I get my replacement.

Same here, and some other forum goer as well.
Perhaps you should try another Care point if possible at all, maybe you'll get better service there.
Else keep bringing it in, in my country you're by law forced to either fix, replace or give the money back when a product is faulty.

  • Disappointed by nokia product and support

Nokia you cheated me. I bought c6-00 14000 INR. But not worthy to what I paid. Due to this customer dissatisfaction you lost global market share. You strong in hardware but failed in os innovation. I don't known what is obstructing you from taking decision.
Now I afraid to buy your most high ends phone lumia 920 after I got bad and difficult experience by using nokia c6.
Already one of my friend has been facing glitches using lumia 610.
Correct your organization else you would loose your place in the market.
If you found any mistake in this message, it due your phone only.
I have been cheated by you

You can't really base your experience with the C6-00 and the 920. The two have completely different OS's. WP8 on the 920 is a great experience and I'm sure you'd like it if you gave it a try.

  • Disappointed with Nokia WH-701 headphones

This is constructive feedback I hope. Why did Nokia not design in a lock slider switch with the wh-701 headphones?  I was very pleased when I read about them, as I like always to support Nokia but their standard headphones with fixed earbuds size never fit me. The wh-701 have the soft earplug type and even come with three different size plug covers.
They sound fine, and work fine except why no lock switch?  I use them to listen to the radio or music at work and to take calls - but with no lock switch every time the headset is bumped one key or another is activated. So the track changes, or the radio station changes - very annoying. They really should have had included a simple lock switch like the HS-45 unit IMHO. So I will go back to using that with my Etymotics ...
Now running a 701, beautiful phone to handle and use...now that it has stopped sending my personal information to Nokia via 360Panel [rolls eyes]

Hi, have you looked on the side of the remote controll ? There is a lillle slider switch which locks the controls, if you look at it and can see a little red square it is locked, slide it the other way and buttons should work, if they don't the headphone control is faulty. As already mentioned the 3.5 jack must be fully pushed home.
    Good Luck

  • Disappointed with Nokia Music service

I paid $170 for Nokia Music credit in June 2008.
I bought about $100 worth of music, but had a lot of trouble getting it to work.
After numerous service calls and emails, multiple PC and handset software updates, multiple backups and memory card formats, tweaking every conceivable mode and setting, and still no functioning music, I finally gave up in March 2009 and requested a refund. Nokia Music refused.
Since then I have repeatedly requested a refund or a fix for my problems.
In June 2009 my unused credit expired. I requested an extension of my unused credit, as per the user agreement, but they never responded.
Last month Nokia Music apparently decided that they had to cut off contact with me. Suddenly, mysteriously, the rights for my songs all expired at once. They said that they would no longer provide support as my song rights had all expired. They no longer respond to my emails.
So I’m very unhappy with the service. I have no playable music. I have lost unused credit that I was unable to spend. I have run up considerable phone bills on hold with the Careline. Most importantly I have wasted many, many hours over the last 18 months trying to get the music to work.
I've also bought songs from iTunes Plus and they worked first time, every time, on both my PC and Nokia handset. Currently I'm saving for an iPhone.

Well I called Dell and got my answer---They diagnose it over the phone if it can't be repaired that way then they ship a new monitor out and then ship the defective monitor back. This works for me. I'm going to call Apple now and demand a new monitor. If not I'll buy the Dell and sell the ACD on ebay or something.

  • Disappointed from Nokia N97

HI i purchases a Nokia N97 about a month or two ago. i picked the white version and at the same time my dad picked the black version. over this past month i had so many problems with it such as shutting off for no reason quitting applications for no reason, having a black screen for a few second, etc.
i went to the Nokia Flagship store and they took my phone to diagnose it. They replaced some vibration sensor which did not help at all and my phone kept on having all of those problems. Yesterday i went to the store and they replaced my phone in a new one, now this phone is also messed up. most of the time it gives me this error message: "disk error - cannot complete write retry or data will be lost"
I'm really getting sick of this phone because I'm paying alot more for it since i need to drive to the store and waste so much of my time.
As i said before my dad has the black version and has non of these problems and errors he's runs smoothly.

Look, if your phone’s a lemon take it back and demand replacement. If the store will only offer to fix it, contact Nokia (your phone is still under warranty) and see if they will replace it for you. If they offer to repair, accept the offer if you want to keep the phone (they will send you a UPS label for return, so you won’t have to drive to the store again). If you don’t, sell it and count your losses and move on. There are options for you if you wish to use them. Sometimes life isn’t simple. The people here that kindly offer tech support and help for all manner of problems do so as a kindness and willingness to help others. They are not employees of Nokia, just people like you and me. The only difference between them and you, to paraphrase John Lennon, is that to them there are no problems, only solutions. This is a support forum, not a mope forum. If, as you say, you came here with absolutely no desire to receive help from forum members, but merely to gripe, then I would suggest you find a place more suitable to unload your angst and self-pity.

  • Disappointed in Nokia N900

Hi I got a new Nokia N900 two days ago, surprisingly although it has two cameras it cant make a video call, my line supports 3G and video calls but nothing in the menu says video call at all. another main issue that annoyed me, there is no call divert in Nokia N900, only call forwarding, for example in my country if you want to divert your phone to another you must dial (**21* phone num #) but the problem with Nokia N900 it doesnt dial the * or the # although its dialed on the screen it says incorrect number and this is really annoying, hope there is a solution for both problems above or Nokia N900 is a failure.

as a business man, please read your manual.
the unit came with a short manual and you can get the full manual pdf here:

  • Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware...

Hello guys, I have recently upgrade my firmware from a nice v30 to v31 with hope of improvement in many things. But I end up very regretful after. My phone is no longer do what V30 allowed me to do.
    For example:
Taking Picture using the standard built in Software within the OS. My phone refused to start the Camera Application. Also refused to enable accelerometer for "Rotate Screen" mode. When ever i enabled it, a few seconds later my phone get on a plane of forever reseting every time it started up, it will reset itself again and again. I tried to re-install the firmware many times, 5times in total, but nothing good happening from it.
The Camera is not at fault here, I tested it with the "Barcode Scanner" software and it work fine. Also tested the camera with the PhotoRite and it also works. I am very disappointed in NOKIA, I've using nokia for the last 5years and this is the worst things that I've never ever met.
If anyone can tell me what to do from here would be nice. I just got my phone back from the Service Centre today. And update today, and very upset today..
is there a way to roll back tot the original firmware?

  • Nokia 101 is not playing half my MP3 files

Bought a new Nokia 101 couple days ago.
Installed an SD card with several MP3 files (mostly audio books, some music). All these files play without a hitch on all devices I'v tried them on - right from bare basic phones, smartphones to comps.
Bit I find that a approx half of them won't play on the Nokia 101!. Error message displayed - "File format not supported. Please select another song".
Discovered that this phone has a ridiculous limitation of not being able to play MP3 files of bitrate lower than 32 kbps. So checked all the files and after eleminating the < 32 kbps files, it is still not playing about half the files that are well above 32 kbps. The other half or is, it plays well. So its not like the MP3 player is totally broken.
What could be the issue? Please help, as I need the phone to play these files if it is to be of any use to me.
Quite disappointed with Nokia, as no other phone or player has such issues with playing anything.

@Srikant - Are you sure? Nokia Care told me on phone that it can be done; and asked me to bring the phone. My concern is that I currently don't have the time for it, and was hoping to find some solution here. Nothing is worse than having to take the time and effort for taking a brand new product for service.
I don't see a PC interface port on the 101 like the one on my 1112. But I don't know if there is one inside the cover or something... haven't checked.
While we would all like to use MP3s of high bitrates, its not always a choice we can make. I have some files of <32 kbps, and I now know this amazing phone can't play them. But I really don't understand why it isn't playing half my files that are in the whereabouts of 50 kbps. Its not possible to get these files at originally higher bitrates. I guess I could try to encode these files at higher bitrates, but thats not going to increase their quality! Besides, these are audio books and no music, so the files at existing bitrate are fairly good. And really, why should I be spending time in doing all this, when every other phone, including very basic ones can play these files on the same SD card without a hitch?
I mainly bought this phone as a secondary phone for some voice calling and for its MP3 player. It fails badly at both jobs as its single speaker design makes any privacy on calls impossble - everyone around can hear the opposite person loudly. And as an MP3 player it fails for the reason above, for having a barely ok speaker (not quite good enough even for audio books) and for being so bare bones as to not even have a seek option, which is a REALLY bad thing when you are listening to audio books.
Even no-name Chinese phones can do a better job.

  • Why is the E65 such a disappointment?

I liked my E65 but I've gone off it now.
My first one was replaced because the rubber coating started to peel off after 2 or 3 months creating bold patches, which is annoying because I look after my phones.
The second wasn't ringing, flashing or doing anything when people called. It just showed missed call.
Hopefully the third one will be better.
I just wish that nokia would hurry up release some new firmware!

I've had problems too with this phone.
One question.. This is a smart phone right? Then how come you can't add birthdays to calendar??? This is such a disappointment, especially for people who always forget birthdays!
Some old Nokia phones still have this feature. You can have birthday reminders. but with this phone, you can add people's birthdays in their contact details, but the phone doesn't add the birthdays to calendar, therefore you won't get a reminder when that person's birthday is nearing.
Such a disappointment from Nokia, especially from a symbian smart phone!
I will buy an old Nokia phone instead of this or stick to my walkman Sony Ericsson!
Sony Ericsson rocks! I can't wait to get my hands on the new K850! lookie http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k850-pictures-2003.php

  • Need help on Nokia e72

    Hi,
I bought a Nokia e72 two weeks back. Dont have much problems with it. Its a great phone The only problem i see here is with battery life. Before the phone release it was said that the phone will have 11hr of battery back on call. I was expecting the baterry to stand for 3+ days with normal usage, but i am really disappointed by nokia it hardly goes for 2+ days.
Any one have any trick to make the battery stay longer or any way to handle the phone which will keep the battery well. The second problem i see with phone is the GPS does not seem to be working. but when i use some external application that uses gps, it works. I am using google maps which works awesome.
I will keep posting for any new problem encountered.
One more big queestion is that , when the new firmware will get released, how do we install it on phone, do we loose data on phone, do we loose any functionality ?
Can a firmware resolve the battery issue??
anyways. a little help from me.
I found a nice site where we have many free awesome softwares for nokia e71. www.getjar.com
every possible software is available here. just set your phone model, and the site will have everything compatible to the phone. Nice web site, I really liked it
Some one please help with battery issue

    - VoIP 13 h 42 min
    (VoIP uses WLAN)
The problem is however that the phone does not always close the 3G connection when you come under the WLAN connection. I then have to do this manually otherwise it drains the battery.
hint: if you don't always need the speed of 3G (like if you only use email for ex) you can set your  phone to use EDGE/GPRS instead. That's how I survive a full day of push  mail on other devices that don't have that great BP-4L 1500 mA battery of the Eseries. Control Panel -> Settings -> Phone -> Network -> GSM (instead of Dual mode)
Really? That's very strange. When I text chat with Nimbuzz over WLAN my battery seems to go down much quicker than
when I do the same over 3G. I suppose it could be something in the way Nimbuzz handles the connection/data.

I do this all the time and I don't get why there's no automatic management or at least preference-setting per application for this. When text chatting I really don't need the 3G. Only really for voice chat or internet or something like that. It seems to me phones could last for days longer if there was a clever way of managing this. Certainly my E51 used to drain in a little over a day with the 3G on, while it easily lasted 3 days without. It seems a really easy way to blow the competition to bits if you can have smart power/connection management.
