Disappointed on Quicktime 10.0

I installed the new snow leopard with quicktime 10 and thought that it would play files with extension .mts and .m2ts, but was really disappointed with I saw that it couldn't recognizes the files with these extension. I wonder if anyone knows if quicktime pro 7 plays those type of video files recorded with avchd camera?

Enough users complain there, you just may see some improvements in the next few updates.

  • DV Firewire import utility?

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but i thought here would be best anyway.
I once stumbled on a small utility on OS X that will just import Firewire DV easily. Yea, I know I could just use iMovie like everyone else, but I want to mess with the big files. With another program, and I don't want to open iMovie, import my files, wait 2 years for them to export and finally work on them.
I just can't find this utility anymore. Googling any word combination always list iMovie related works, or the like.
    Thanks.

That is so true, I completely forgot about this!
Since iMovie can automatically cut the scene when it detects a scene change, I might as well use iMovie. Although AVCVideoCap is nice and does the job very well, I'll give a try with iMovie. In fact AVCVideoCap is the underlying base of iMovie I think, as mentionned in the SDK.
Also, I was disappointed by Quicktime for capturing from DV until I realised I can ask to capture raw information (instead of converting on the fly like it did to H.264, which resulted in wierd aspect ratio error for my camera).
    Thanks for the help.

  • ITunes+QuickTime: VERY, VERY, DISAPPOINTED

I bought Ipod 30GB a few months ago. When i listen to IPod, I remember why did I spend so much money. But When I deal with the software side, I forget it!
The last bad joke, during the last ITunes upgrade. "There is a new version of ITunes, download it now!". Ok, I say. "You must install Itunes AND QUICKTIME". Ok, I say. Quick Time is useful anyway, so it's ok.
At the end of installation, surprise, QuickTime changed all my settings about media players, overriding all my choices. I tried to work out it from the quicktime preference. Nothing. At least, I found the problem In the Advanced Settings of Firefox (my browser) preferences, and now I have to change manualy every file association with image, audio, video files, because Quick Time took every file type. During the installation of QuickTime+ITunes, no message told me about this backgroun operation.
Now, I would like to say to Apple Marketing people, this is a very very bad and arrogant choice, because you must respect the time and the work of the people you made software for. Tell me why I have to spend half an hour of my time, repairing the damage I got from quick time? Who did give you the right, the permission to change my computer's settings? Do you think we are all teenagers with a lot of time to customize our computers?
I was already a little angry because i think ITunes, despite it's world success, it's a mediocre music manager - some lacks of playlist managment are ridiculous. Now, with this "violence" of the imposition of Quick Time, it's really too much.
The next "surprise", and I ll'sell my "cool" Ipod and goodnight!
Hope Apple People listen to my words, because I'm going to post'em on other forums and newsgroups.
    Windows XP Pro

Hm, if I remember correctly, QuickTime asked me which file types to associate with, but I'm not sure. Perhaps there's some sort of custom install, I don't remember...
What are you missing on playlist handling? Imo, iTunes is a very comfortable Audio Player, not only for syncing your Music with the iPod, but also for managing music.
There is mainly one thing I would criticize, namely that you can't copy music from the iPod to the PC (did you know this? I hope I didn't give you the final reason to sell your iPod - in fact, there are ways to work around this issue), but I suppose that's because of the music industry.

  • TS3771 My iTunes U no longer works since the update, an error message pops up saying that "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed the tutorial that suggests to change to from 64 to 32 bit and it didn't

iTunes U video files no longer work on my computer since i update to Mavericks. The following message appears on the screen "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed. What should I do to get it fixed? Buy a new MacBook?

Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • Remote Not Working With QuickTime 7.3.0

Hi I just upgraded and realized my frontrow remote has stopped working with Quicktime. The remote works with VLC, iTunes etc but not QT. Forget about scanning forward or backward it cant even adjust the volume. I never had the problem before. I have tried playing both avi and mp4 files.
I run Tiger and have a macbook

    As a follow up -
I spoke with Apple Support about this and was routed to a few people who were helpful, and moved it up to the engineers of Keynote (and the white remote?) for a solution.
A few days later I received this reply:
Hello Eric, I have heard back from the engineers about this. It looks like as long as Keynote 6.0 is present on the system it will default to using the remove in that application. If you remove Keynote 6.0, which we would not recommend, then you can use Keynote 5.3 with the remote. Presently though this is normal and expected behavior.
I replied by expressing my disappointment that this wasn't functional, since I'm not comfortable using Keynote 6.0 yet.  Short of uninstalling 6.0, the only workaround I have found is to use the iPhone/iTouch Keynote remote app, or make a duplicate copy of your presentation to be opened in 6.0 (and using the remote there).

  • Output quicktime movie choppy and less sharp than original

    Goodmorning!
I am planning to make a stand alone movie of my footage that I can keep and watch on my iMac. My sequence was made on FCP 7 on 1920 x 1080 with Prores 422 codec.
I did a few tests with exporting to quicktime movie (standard settings), because I have read several times that converting this way results in more or less the same quality. When I compare the videoquality of the Quicktime movie with playing the footage on the timeline fullscreen (+view-external video-all frames+), I am very disappointed. Not only is the sharpness of the quicktime movie less than the original, the movie plays very choppy (not fluently at all) .
My question is: is that result to be expected? May I compare a quicktime movie with the original as described before?
Or maybe I should export the sequence in a more sophisticated way?
The quicktime outcome was about 30 seconds and resulted in a file of about 500 MB. My wish is that the size of the file will not be bigger.
I hope that you can help me. Thanks in advance.

    Tom,
Three times "correct" to your three questions.
Opened the exported file in the QuickTime player, Movie Inspector said:
    Structure: Apple ProRess 422 , 1920 x1080 (1888 x 1062) millions, 16-bit integer (little indian) Stereo 48000 khz
    Bps: 25
    Size: 561,7 MB
    Speed: 118,53 Mbit/s
    Current size: 1882 x 1058 pixels
If I run the sequence through JED deinterlacer, the movie gets a better flow. Of course the sharpness deminish a bit too.
I hope that you can help me.
Would export in H.264 be a better option?
Maybe the 25 Bps is too high? My Panasonic SD60 produces only 17 mb Mbps.

  • "Quicktime is not installed or is too old of a version (39::0)" error when trying to open CS 6 psd f

I am editing some Sony EXCAM footage and decided to apply a Photoshop CS 6 filter to a potential background plate for a green screen shot. The EXCAM footage (HD, 1920x1080, 24p) plays fine in Quicktime player and plays inside Photoshop as well once imported. But after applying the filter -- which also plays properly in Photoshop -- and saving the composition as a psd file, I then try to open the psd file in After Effects, I get an error message that says "Quicktime is not installed or is too old of a version (39::0)." I have considered rendering the Photoshop comp as video, but I notice that unless I want an image sequence (which I don't) my export options are limited to a couple of animation flavors or jpeg 2000. I see no place in the Photoshop render dialogue box to access Quicktime settings and choose another codec. (An Apple Pro Res proxy might work just fine, for example.) So I'm making this a Photoshop question because I think there's something about Photoshop that is making the file unrecognizable to After Effects. After Effects does import a single frame of the image with the filter applied. (Yes, I am converting the video to a smart object before applying the filter.) Any thoughts?

Hi hertz. I was informed by Todd Koprivka (pardon if I got the last name wrong) of Adobe that owing to different speeds of development, some interactions between Photoshop and After Effects are not working as they once did. One of the programs has to catch up to the other. So, no, you can't open a video saved as a psd file in After Effects pending new developments. And while you can export your Photoshop video, it doesn't seem you have access to all your system installed codecs. I can't remember what is available at the moment. I think animation and maybe photo jpeg -- don't quote me. But it does seem that until they get the programs back on the same page, you do have to use one of those export options and then import the result as footage into AE. (Please note that I am playing this back to you from memory and may not have the details quite right, but I think I'm telling you the gist. You could try tracking down Mr. Koprivka at Adobe and emailing him. He seems to be some sort of community liason for AE.) Sorry the news isn't better -- especially as you have updated all the software and the problem apparently hasn't been addressed. That's disappointing. The workaround I'm suggesting is time consuming and, of course, you are baking in your Photoshop work. But if that's OK and you have the time for the export, you can eventually get your stuff into After Effects.

  • CAN'T figure out how to make/edit movies in QuickTime Pro...

I can't seem to figure out how to creat and edit movies in Quicktime Pro. I would do this in windows movie maker as its sooo simple, but it doesn't save in a format that works on a mac computer (I'm emailing the video to someone who uses a mac!). And, I can't seem to find a program that is as easy to use as Windows Movie Maker...PLEASE help me, I really NEED to get this movie in a format to work on a Mac! I'm at a total loss as to what to do! And I can't seem to find a tutorial, either!
    =( Kourtney

First of all, Quicktime is not really an "editing" program in the traditional sense. If you are expecting to really edit in QT Pro, you will be disappointed. Yes, you can actually import video directly into QT Pro and edit it, but the functions will be limited to roughly selecting chunks of video and deleting them, and you won't have frame-accurate control like other real editing programs. But lets start at the beginning: 1) Your post does not give enough information to anyone for them to help you. Where are the videos coming from that you want to edit? Camcorder? Digital camera that takes MPEG movies? VHS or DVDs? 2) The answer to #1 will be the clue as whether you are plugging a USB device or a Firewire device into the computer. Once this is determined, then instructions will vary as to how you go about editing. 3) I'm not sure if you are using QT Pro on a PC or a Mac. If you have a Mac, why don't you use the built-in video editing program that came with your computer? It's called iMovie? Quicktime can convert some video files into something that is compatible with iMovie, if they're not already. If you are using QT Pro on a PC, then I'm a little unfamilar as if it works exactly the same between between a Mac and PC. Seeing that you come from the PC side of the Universe, I'd bet that you are trying to plug in and use a USB device. On a Mac, QT Pro can record video directly from a camcorder, but it needs to be connected via Firewire. Otherwise for something transferred via USB, you most likely have an MPEG file. QT Pro can open this, but again, the editing will be very rough as QT is not a refined edit program.

  • Quicktime : Windows Vista w/SP2 - Windows Error : Export Controller stopped

With the latest Quicktime version I am getting several errors in several applications:
Windows Vista with SP2: "Export Controller was closed - Data Execution Prevention has sttoped Export Controller"
After Effects CS4: "Invisible OpenGL Buffer Windows: The procedure entry point...etc..etc..could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll"
I fixed the iTunes error as suggested by Rob (moving the SQLite3.dll provided to the iTunes folder as suggested yeasterday and the error does not showed up again when I did restart my system.
But there are still "serious" issues with Windows Vista and other applications such as After Effects in regards to the SQLite3.dll. I can not even import MOV files in After Affects NO more.
Pleas help I am wasting a lot of time in attempting to fix something that was working "perfectlly" before the whole update (iTunes/Quicktime).
Thanks agaain in advance for your help and assiatnce on this matter.

I am quite disappointed with these Apple' folks. Almost a month or so with the QuickTime' issues and nobody seems to know what is going on. It seems that they are quite lost. I wonder WHERE their Technical and Support Managers are ????????....
DO YOU GUYS CARE HOW MUCH IS THIS ISSUE COSTING "YOUR" COMPANY ??????????????????
DO YOU CARE ??????..with such attitude, no wonder why so many US companies are falling down to the drain.....and quickly....
A simple respond that shows COMMITMENT will do it...when are you "planning" to have a solution ????????????...
llottlott..AE4 works regardless of the errors..at least, it is my experience so far, the only thing is to convert the MOV files into for example FLV. It seems to me that any FLV option is better than MOV files and certainly with all these issues and lack of respond, FLV would become a better option.

  • QuickTime plug-in for Window Media Files?

Microsoft recently announced that they will stop developing any update or improvement for Window Media Player for the Mac: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060113/apon_hi_te/microsoftapple
It is a little disappointing aspect because sometimes I keep running into cool websites that have many WMFs but few or no QT support. Right now I'm unable to play any WMF because Window Media Player is very buggy.
Is Apple going to push for some kind of WMF plug-in support for future QuickTime app since Microsoft is going to kill off development for WMP for the Mac?
    Please advice.

Windows Media Player 9 for the Mac has not been updated since 2003 so Microsoft's announcement is disingenuous to say the least. They haven't supported or developed the thing in, literally, years.
I cannot say enough good things about the Flip4Mac WMV player that allows you to view WMV files in Quicktime. There is also a browser plugin that lets WMV files play in Safari just like WMP9, only BETTER! And the player is now FREE. Strangely, Microsoft is even recommending it as a replacement for WMP9. It works perfectly on sites like CNN that use Windows Media Player for their video content and is compatible with more codecs than WMP9. Check out Microsoft's website for information and download.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/flip4mac.mspx
I highly recommend you download and install the Flip4Mac WMV Player. You can say goodbye and good riddance to WMP9.

  • I cannot delete my Quicktime from my macbookpro

Everytime I try and delete the Quicktime player from my macbook pro I get the following message:
"“QuickTime Player” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X."
The main issue to is that lately everytime I try to watch a video or DVD in my laptop, the image freezes every 5 to 10 seconds or all I can hear is the sound but the image it frozen. Very frustrating...
I testesd using VCL player to watch my videos and it performed way better than it was with Quicktime.
I wonder if you anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this problem? My laptop is well looked after and less than two years old. I cannot believe how suddenly I cannot get to watch a simple video or dvd in it without the above issues happening.
I am very disappointed with Apple, if problem persists I will sell it and buy anything but Apple.
The current software in my laptop is: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
    Thanks

You are probably using Quicktime 10. This is not intended for DVD playback, for which you should be using DVD Player or VLC.
Also, not all videos play back in QT 10, but require Quicktime 7. You can have both on your Mac.

  • Is anyone facing problems with quicktime on lion???

I recently upgraded my macbook pro to lion osx and the problems keep showing up one by one... quicktime is the worst. it has literally stopped functioning! at first, there was this problem with audio and video not being synched; and then it got worse and was totally playing the videos without any audio track and now, after a week or so, the app is not working AT ALL!!!
I hit "play", the icon changes to "pause" as in : "i'm playing the video!" and then it stops and NOTHING HAPPENS. and it's not about the format of the videos either. i treid .wmv (which was working btw), .avi or .mov (made by imovies for crying out loud!)...
when its photoshop being slow and laggy, you can blame adobe! but isn't quicktime supposed to be the "official" apple player??? am heavily disappointed apple!

    First:

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

  • Files downloaded turn into QuickTime files and not iTune Files!

    Hi folks,
I am downloading some songs from mp3search.ru (very very cheap mp3 site) and they are downloaded as iTune files (which is what I require), however, when they download fully they become Quicktime files!
I now have to change them individually to be opened with iTunes but they remain QT files!!
How do I stop QuickTime from being the default and dictating itself as the main MP3 player?!
    Thanks
    Tc

well, today I browsed iTunes, happened to find something I liked and thought I'd give it a go..
    After checking this bit:
    Import in An Instant
To import songs into iTunes, just insert a CD into your computer and click Import CD. Or set up iTunes to automatically add music when you insert a CD. Either way, iTunes imports music in a snap. iTunes saves music from your CDs as high-quality AAC files — a format that builds upon state-of-the-art audio technology from Dolby Labs. But you can choose different audio formats, too. iTunes lets you convert music to MP3s at high bit-rate at no extra charge. Using AAC or MP3, you can store more than 100 songs in the same amount of space as a single CD. iTunes also supports the Apple Lossless format, which gives you CD-quality audio in about half the storage space.
then registering an account I felt sort of confident, not in the lack of looking, the information is just hot air anyway rwitten by halfwits, but this was what it seemed..
    BUT LOW AND BEHOLD,
    None of this happened
I end up with M4P files.... *** are those...
Burning my new purchase onto a disc didn't work in my stereo
I'm really p*ed off about this matter, measly 10 $ maybe, but the disappointment in being aggravated this way adding to increasing dismay, that you don't get anything face value from practically any commercial company anymore, seriously gets my fumes going, cos I could have gone to the record store, taken care of everybody and probably walked out with two great discs for the same price and half the time I spent sorting my anger
I'll say it again, software designers stay the f* out of my way and start doing your jobs and provide the service you advertise using the KISS principle... stop jacking around
H*ll even the buttons in here don't work, trying to highlight in italic the quote from iTunes store...
Someone explain me how I get, as they state I could and should, buying my record in the iTunes store and get it on a CD so I can play it on my stereo, cause as we all know the G5 comes with f* all speakers..
Kind regards with a bird to all these internet scams
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

  • What is up with the Quicktime 7.2 upgrade, it DOES NOT WORK!

Quicktime 7.2 Internet Plug-In does not work with Safari? I am very up to date with all the upgrades to maintain security, and this most recent "upgrade" while may be plugging a security hole for the iPhone does not maintain past functionality. I have searched and done most if not all the suggested fixes (repairing permissions, removing Internet Plug-Ins, installing most up to date flash player, un checking Flash Media MIME setting, even forcing Safari to load w/ Rosetta) and am very disappointed with having to force Safari into Rosetta and shocked to hear the suggestion to abandon Apple altogether and use Firefox. I am using Safari to get away from Netscape and third party software to AVOID conflicts. Worse Firefox does in-fact work making me doubt its' security for internet banking.
When is Apple going to FIX this Quicktime Update so that it works?!

Same here. I don't have in Intel Mac, so it's not a Rosetta issue. I've patiently followed every tip I've read in many discussions. Reinstalled Quicktime. Installed Flash 9 Upgrade. Changed Quicktime settings (unchecked enable flash, unchecked Flash Media under MIME settings). Trashed Quicktime preferences.
However in Safari, on upon trying to open any movie trailer on the Quicktime web site

I get a Quicktime logo with a question mark. In Firefox (which I've also reinstalled) it quits unexpectedly when trying to open a movie trailer. In my own experiments, I've opened another admin account on my computer and when I log in there, everything works fine. You say "well just use that account then", that would mean me having to transfer all my files to the other account which I don't want to do unless someone has a really quick way to do so. Also, in checking the system preferences for Quicktime under both accounts, I don't see any difference. Both accounts are accessing the same software from the root level Applications folder, so why does it work in one account and not the other? Someone help, as I don't think I can read another 10 page discussion on this.
