Disappointed with iCloud

Am I stupid or is Icloud complicated. I can not upload documents to Icloud. Ical does not sync with Icloud
I am really surprised at Apple.

Seems to me that it would have been much better to have just added functionality to MobileMe rather than to have thrown everything away and started over.
I've had my .mac address since the very beginning when Steve Jobs announced iTools. My user name is my first name without any numbers or anything and I have a fairly common first name.
Apple finally got MobileMe working rather well and now they are throwing everything away for an incomplete service that does less and is even more of a mess than MobileMe was when it first was introduced.

  • Disappointed with iCloud - bring back MobileMe

Having just moved from MobileMe to iCloud I can only say I am disappointed by the lack of functionality for sharing files.
One of the main functions of MobileMe I used was iDisk.  It easily allowed me to share files between devices.  The sharing of documents in iCloud just doesn't cut it because it relies on the application supporting iCloud.  At the moment, that seems to be limited to iWork.  One of the main applications I use, Microsoft Office, doesn't support iCloud.  Relying on applications means that not all file types can be shared.  iDisk allowed a folder structure which iCloud doesn't seem to have.
I hope Apple come up with proper cloud file sharing.

SugarSync offers much the same facilities, and includes file sharing and a 'Web Archive' for storing files you don't also want to be on your Mac. You can select any folders on your Mac to sync and exclude nominated items therein. Like Dropbox it does block-level incremental uploading which makes uploading changed files a very quick process.
It doesn't have a background process: you leave the application running (it appears in the menu bar) - the Preferences give you the choice of having it run automatically atstartup. Unlike some of the others, if you quit it, it really is quit (if it is running an upload at the time it will automatically resume the next time you boot it). There is a free 5GB plan: paid plans start at $4.99 per month ($49.99 p.a.) for 30GB. It's received good reviews: I've been using it and found it's flexible and easy to use.

  • Itunes doesn't work well with icloud - will Match make it perfect?

I was quite excited by the security and convenience possibilities of icloud and music. I am very disappointed that I have to buy a yearly subscription service to get if to work properly.
I am about to go through the six steps to get match for itunes working. And *that* requires a computer that I don't have.
Background: When I heard about icloud I thought 'What a great concept! I can backup everything - I lose my phone, my music - no problem.'
Not quite. Aside from other problems with icloud (another post coming) itunes is NOT integrated with icloud. NEW USERS BE WARNED. Weird thing is that icloud works for everything else, even my 1800 videos and photographs.
I did a restore from icloud and about 30% of my songs did not show up, 25% of my playlists were greyed out (empty) and 15% had disappeared. Songs showed up in some lists (purchased) but not others (albums?) What the heck? I observed that going to my account at itunes store showed everything and there was a cloud symbol with a downwards arrow, i.e. download. I have slow wifi at home and no data service on my phone so this was a headache downloading all my songs one by one and reorganizing/creating playlists manually. Imagine if I had 50000 songs! This hassle was even though *all* songs were purchased from itunes. Nit a single ripped CD or torrented song.
Based on multiple previous disappointments and different stories depending on who I talk to at Apple I am skeptical of whether Itunes Match will truly make my iphone5 musical experience seamless and problem-free. I have 5000 songs from various sources (mostly ripped CDs from public libraries but also some internet sources) on a hard drive overseas and the concept of replacing them with superior bit rates and album art is appealing. But I am cautious. His do I know Apple doesn't change the rules 5 years from now - technically or legally? And if I miss a yearly payment will my songs self-destruct?

iCloud is not iTunes Match. The two services are seperate and distinct and one service does not require the other. iTunes Match does not use iCloud storage, nor is it a backup service.
iTunes Match only scans, matches and uploads tracks in an iTunes library. It does not not do this on an iOS device. You cannot even purchase iTunes Match except through iTunes on a computer.
You should take a look at this page to get a better idea of what iTunes Match is and does: http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

  • What is going on with iCloud?

I have an iPhone, iPad and MacBook, and it seems like nothing is working - music, calendars, contacts, podcasts, mail are all screwing up.   I upgraded to v. 11.1.4 about 3 weeks ago and that seems about when everything started screwing up.  I download podcasts and music onto my iPhone, but when I am away from Wifi, it won't play unless I enable cellular data.  Most of the music that I have synced on my iPhone is no longer available to play when I am away from Wifi and shows up as being in the cloud, even though I have it checked on iTunes to synd to my phone.  If I enable cellular data, it seems to play, but I live in a rural location, and have AT&T so my cell reception is awful, and I can't use this in most locations.  My Ipad suddenly doesn't show my contacts or calendars any more. It shows my gmail calendar, but my iCloud calendars don't even show up.  I could go on & on.  I have been a long time Mac user, but I am very disappointed with the lack of functionality and the frequent failures.  I have talked with a few other friends who are having similar problems.  Does Apple know about this, and are they doing anything to fix it?

There was a iCloud outage earlier with mail.

  • I am totally disappointed with iTunes Match.

I have been informed that I am totally disappointed with the operation of iTunesMatch. I use almost all Apple products and never had as many problems as I havewith iTunes Match.
On my iPhone EVERY time I'll use the iPod.app almost no album covers, andALWAYS have to load them again. Even spending data to get the covers, arescattered in several songs from the album without cover.
Another problem I'm having is that whenever you post a song to play the iPhoneiPod.app need to access the internet again I do not know what! So if the Internet is slow iPhone Do not start playing, it takes several seconds to start playing a song that's on the iPhone. Before the iPod did not have to play the songs using the cloud, right now the music being on the iPhone it needs to access the internet forfree to start playing. This is absurd!
Another thing that is happening because of this crap Match iTunes is that I can no longer hear the shuffle all songs that are on my iPhone! If I send random playmode, the iPod.app picks the songs that are in the cloud and starts playing, but immediately stop playing because you have to do is download the music. It wasimpossible to use the iPod.app to hear music. Or is everything on the iPhone and listen to those problems mentioned above or you do not hear and is waiting to download music that I do not want to hear, because the random songs that are putin iCloud from the list.
I am totally disappointed with the service of garbage that Apple released.

ITines Match is a pile of useless rubbish. It crashes constantly, fails to complete tasks, goes back to square one, freezes computers and utterly fails to work. Piece of sh1t Apple!

  • Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud

I am using Outlook on my PC (windows 7 and Outlook 2010)
    1. Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud?
    2.  Please clarify, I don't need to set up a XXX@me email account to get iCloud to sync with Outlook, correct?
    3.  My emails appear to by syncing, but the Outlook Calendar does not sync its Pre-Cloud entries with my Iphone and IPad.  Is this what is to e expected?
    4.  If I put a calendar entry on my PC's Outlook Calendar, it should sync with my Iphone and Ipad correct?  Again, what about entries that were made in Outlook before I signed up for iCloud?
I am hoping there is a simple step by step tutorial somewhere, because I am pretty disappointed with Apple about how confusing this is all becoming.

    Hello:
Sorry I can't bring you a solution but I am surprised your mail is working. Many of us with outlook 2010 seem to be having trouble sending. It seems apple's Pxx-smpt.mail.me.com server is rejecting the loging. I have tried it on three PC's with Win7 and Outlook 2010. It simply does not work after installing from the iCloud control panel. I have also manually configured the servers, encryption method, etc to no avail.
On the positive side, Calenda and contacts does work. First time around, the claendar duplictaed everything but I manually cleans it out. The iCloud calendar is a seperate calendar in Outlook. It seems to perform a sync with your local calendar one time. From them on, I beleive you need to use the iCloud calendar to have the same appointments show on each device. I renamed the defaut iClouds calendar to "iCloud Calendar". It's definatelly confusing and not seamless. It would be nicer to sync your OL calendar permenantly so you don;t see two or more.
Let me know your settings for iCloud email on Outlook. Try sending an email from the @me.com account.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Cannot sync mac with icloud

I cannot sync my mac with icloud. I believe I should go to ical preferences and add an account, right? There is no "icloud" menu choice --  only mobilme which is dead.
I have ical version 4.04 and Mac OS X 10.6.8. Everything I run tells me my software is up-to-date but I seem to see an updated version of ical out there -- 5.0.1 which I would think would have the choice to add an icloud account.
What to do? If all it takes is updating ical, why doesn't it do that when the system is checking itself for updates? Where would I go to download the newest version of ical?

Why would apple make Snow Leapord obselete for syncing information? I wanted to wait to upgrade to Lion until a later build, but now, my contacts, calender, mail, etc... will not sync?
    This is really disappointing.
I've read about using gmail and outlook to link accounts, but why would apple send me to a third party? I want to use apple to sync everything.
They left Snow Leapord behind, and it's sad.
please let me know if there is a fix planned for this, or if Lion is the only way going forward that I can use icloud's glorious syncing capabilities.

  • My family has multiple iOS devices, all with 1 Apple ID. With iCloud coming, should I create separate Apple IDs for each member of my family?

    Hello,
Between my family, we have 2 iPhones, multiple computers, iPads, and an Apple TV ALL tied in to the same Apple ID (the one I created when I got my first device). With iCloud coming, I wanted to know if I need to create separate Apple IDs for each family member (for emails, contacts, calendars, etc.). For instance, I would like to share certain contacts and a calendar with only my wife, all media between all family members, and have home sharing so that I can play/stream content on my Apple TV. Will there be a way to have multiple and distinct me.com accounts and yet share the same Apple ID?
Apologies for being verbose — just wanted to give ample info/background.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.
    Apologies for the lengthy response..

  • Can Multiple email accounts on Galaxy S4 sync with iCloud & non-iCloud email?

Hello… has anyone successfully set up multiple email accounts (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T/etc.) on their Samsung Galaxy S4 Jelly Bean 4.2? I searched the forums and it has been said that configuration settings depend on the combination of wireless service provider + device model + email providers + Android version.
My S4 is from AT&T and if this scenario can't work, I have to cancel my contract in a few days (although that would be the last resort). From checking the forums, not everyone has been able to get the S4 to work with iCloud. In my case, I hope to sync up with iCloud and non-iCloud email which might be trickier.
Here is one thread that helps with settings, but doesn't seem to address multiple or non-iCloud accounts: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22435596#22435596
    Some background info…
Although Gmail just works on Android devices, I plan to primarily use Apple/Yahoo/AT&T email (at least initially).
I don’t yet have Apple mail/iCloud, but plan to. I am partially switched to the Mac (Mtn Lion), but haven’t completed the jump from Windows.
I don’t have an iPhone (so hopefully that makes the setup less complicated.)
I mostly care about email on the S4 (I’m not concerned about syncing up contacts, calendar, music, etc.).
Apologies for the long post, but hopefully I’ve included the necessary background info for the questions below:
Is it possible to setup multiple (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T) emails on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T so that they sync nicely?
From the S4, if I reply to an email, will the Sender in the email reply be the same account which received the email? Or, (as I’ve read in the excerpt below) will the Sender for all email replies from the S4 be set from a fixed/primary account?
Although the first two questions above are the most urgent for now, I'd appreciate pointers if you see something that should be changed in the configuration settings below.
    Thanks in advance!

After spending quite some time trying to get my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II setup with iCloud mail, this is what finally worked. Thanks to everyone for the various bits that helped lead me in the right direction. For those who need lots of detail, I hope the below helps. Please don't ask me about any other specific Android phones as I'm not expert but thought someone out there could benefit from my experience.
    INCOMING SERVER SETTINGS
User Name: username (do not enter @me,com or @mac.com)
    Password: (enter your password)
    IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
    Security type: SSL
    Port: 993
IMAP path prefix: p##- (you can find this by checking your account settings on your Mac. Mine was p03- so that's what I entered here)
    Press NEXT
    OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
    SMTP server: smtp.mail.me.com
    Security type: TLS
    Port: 587
check the box next to "Require sign-in" if it's not already checked
User name: username  (do not enter @me.com or @mac.com)
    Password (enter your password)
    Press NEXT
Your phone will check the server settings and you should be able to see your email now.
And another poster provided these additional tips…
Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates
Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN
After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are: smtp.me.com
    NONE for security type
    Tic "Require Sign-in"
    Authentication is PLAIN
And another poster's question about the Sender's email address for multiple accounts…
Managed to get this all set up however, Android only seems to allow you to send from your primary address and only reply from your primary address even if a mail was sent to one of the other addresses.
Any ideas how to get around this as I have three addresses beneath my primary which I need to both send from and reply from.

You're unlikely to find many people with experience of configuring multiple email accounts on a specific Samsung device, here on the Apple forum for an Apple service. Try the Samsung forums for help setting up your Samsung phone.
There are a few posts with general info relating to setting up an iCloud email account on Android here if you search though.

  • Is there a way to create shared iTunes playlists with iCloud?

For instance, if I were to create a playlist called "Playlist X" on my Macbook Pro, is there a way for iCloud to put that same playlist in my iMac's iTunes library? And if I were to add a song to the playlist on the iMac, could it appear in the playlist on the Macbook? This would be much more convenient than having to update two different playlists manually.

This doesn't make sense. ...juat sayin'
Location services are a part of your iOS device (or Mac). You don't "turn on" location services with iCloud. You can visit http://www.icloud.com and use Find My iPhone to see the location of the device if you want (assuming you have enabled this from the iPhone first).

  • IPad (1st generation) Not Syncing With iCloud

A friend of mine has a 1st generation iPad (64GB, Wi-Fi + Cellular) from May 2010. She has iOS 5.1.1 installed on it, which is as high as you can go on the 1st generation iPad.
She also her a MacBook and an iPhone, and she wants all three devices to sync (e.g. Notes and Calendar) via iCloud. The MacBook and the iPhone are syncing fine, but the iPad won't sync.
Is this simply a case of iOS 5.1.1 no longer being compatible with iCloud, or specifically, devices running iOS 7 (her iPhone) and OS X Mountain Lion (her MacBook Pro)? Any suggestions?

    Hello Reuben,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue your friend is experiencing on her iPad.  I found some resources to help with this.
First, the following article provides a table of what version of iOS software you need for different iCloud features.  Several iCloud services are still available to use with iOS 5:

  • My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??

My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??
I run both Mac and a PC and have iTunes on both, which has previously recognised my iPhone. I had updated my Mac with the new iTunes software with iCloud and updated my iPad2 just yesterday. I then wanted to do the same with my iPhone today, but my Mac wouldn't recognise the device so I tried it on my PC, which recognised the phone but told me I needed to update my iTunes and this in turn wanted to update my iPhone software. After completing all this and restarting, my iPhone now shows the iTunes icon with the USB plug pointing towards it, obviously wanting me to plug it in to my computer to re-connect with iTunes, but now neither of my computers recognise my iPhone and my PC states an 'Unknown Device'. My Mac doesn't even see it. Can anyone help as I really need to get my phone working?? Thanks

Hold down the Home and Power button for 20 seconds. And try to update again.

    Hello,
You are correct, Blue tooth low engergy, BTLE.(only) devices are not backward compatible with Classic bluetooth and cannot connect.
However the Apple 4S and above have Bluetooth 4.0 support.. Hardware wise it has bothClassic Bluetooth, like the 3GS, as well as Bluetooth Low Energy.  There is no good reason why your 4s cannot communicate to your Sony in-dash player using the Classic bluetooth that resides in the 4S.
I know that this does not answer the why it does not work, but it should work. Do you have to somehow re-pair the new phone up to the player?  Not  knowing the model of the Sony it is hard to investigate.
And I hate to ask but are you sure that the Bluetooth radio is on in the phone?
