Disaster recovery on a new host. Oracle 11.1.0.6
Oracle 11.1.0.6, windows server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 x64)
I need to test disaster recovery on a new host(with diferent name).
It looks like I am able to complete recovery stage but dbcontrol doesn't work for me.
I was told: if you change host name or ip address you should delete repository and recreate it.
Do I need to import emkey.ora file on a new host as well?
I used this post

Disaster Recovery with different ASM diskgroups
Hi@all,
actually I'm trying to test a Disaster Recovery Scenario. At a Oracle Linux 6 server with installed Grid Infra 12c and Ora Database 11.2.0.4 (there is also a 12.1.0.2 database instance) I'm trying to do a disaster recovery. But I'm getting wild by restoring and recovering the database. The problem here is, that the ASM diskgroup name has changed. As you read out I also switched the physical server, but I think that shouldn't be any problem.
At the old server I've two ASM diskgroups "+DATA" and "+FRA_1", at the new they're called "+DATA_SRVNAME" and "+FRA_SRVNAME". I've already changed the startup parameter in spfile, but now after restoring the controlfile RMAN has the directions to the old diksgroup:
RMAN> report schema;
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
RMAN-06139: WARNING: control file is not current for REPORT SCHEMA
Report of database schema for database with db_unique_name SID
List of Permanent Datafiles
===========================
File Size(MB) Tablespace RB segs Datafile Name
1 0 SYSTEM *** +DATA/SID/datafile/system.438.816606399
So I've tried three ways. First was to rename the datafile name:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '+DATA/SID/datafile/system.438.816606399' TO '+DATA_SRVNAME/SID/datafile/system.438.816606399';
Second was to set the newname in RMAN:
set newname for datafile 16 to '+DATA_SRVNAME/SID/datafile/mms_basic_tab.455.816617697/';
And second was to recreate the controlfile with
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "SID" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
MAXLOGFILES 16
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
MAXDATAFILES 254
MAXINSTANCES 1
MAXLOGHISTORY 1815
LOGFILE
GROUP 1 ('+DATA__SRVNAME', '+FRA_SRVNAME') SIZE 1024M,
DATAFILE
'+DATASRVNAME/SID/datafile/system.438.816606399',
CHARACTER SET AL32UTF8;
But all three methods gave me the error, that the datafile at the new location isn't available (example):
ORA-15012: ASM file '+DATA_QUM169/cogn11/datafile/system.438.816606399' does not exist
So now my question to you: How am I able to tell the controlfile or database to use the other ASM diskgroup?
I know, easiest way would be to create a diskgroup +DATA and do the restore / recover, but at the new server I've no more storage to assign to a new diskgroup and because of there are running other instances I would'nt change the ASM diskgroups.
Did you have anny solution?
Thanks a lot and Regards,
DavePlease try this
RMAN> run
set newname for datafile 1 to '+DATA_SRVNAME';
restore datafile 1;
switch datafile 1;
recover datafile 1;
Did you created +DATA_SRVNAME diskgroup?

Disaster Recovery For SAP ECC 6.0 On Oracle
Hi All,
This is our infrastructure
Windows 2003 Server
SAP ECC 6.0
Oracle 10
Legato Networker Client / Library
Actually our Backup Strategy is to do an Online Backup Every Night from monday to saturday. We want to test our backup by doing a Restore. We are assuming a complete loss of the system including hardware.
What we do:
1. Install the SAP System on a new host with the same hardware characteristic of the source system.
2. Install & Configure the legato utility.
3. Copy the E:\oracle\MIS\sapbackup\ directory from the source system to the test system.
4. Them we put the database in mount mode.
5. Execute the command: brrestore -b bdyxwoqv.fnf -m full (bdyxwoqv.fnf-> Full Online Backup that was executed without problems).
It gives the following errors:
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA2\SR3_10\SR3.DATA10' reported as not found by
backup utility
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA3\SR3700_9\SR3700.DATA9' reported as not foun
d by backup utility
BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
BR0279E Return code from 'backint -u MIS -f restore -i E:\oracle\MIS\sapbackup\.
rdyybrzp.lst -t file -p E:\oracle\MIS\102\database\initMIS.utl': 2
BR0374E 0 of 63 files restored by backup utility
BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
BR0231E Backup utility call failed
BR0406I End of file restore: rdyybrzp.rsb 2008-10-01 17.45.19
BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
BR0404I BRRESTORE terminated with errors
Since this is a new SAP system it never will find the SAPDATA files because they where on the source system and this is a new test system.
We found the following note:
96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on Oracle
But this note is for SAP R/3 no for SAP ECC!
It explain that you have to install your SAP system with the System Copy Method (is this the only way??).
2.) Installation of the R/3 System
The installation of SAP software contains the software installation of the database. The initial SAP database should be created again but the SAP data should not be loaded.
Install the SAP system with the Oracle-specific system copy method, which is based on backup/restore. This method is described in the system copy guide for your Product/Release. Refer to Note 659509 for products that are based on Web AS.
3.) Modification of the installation
Above all, you must take into account the mounted file systems at the time of the loss. If necessary create new SAPDATA directories (mount points). These generally identify a disk or a logical storage area (logical volume).
Are we working in the right way? maybe there is a formal procedure to do a Restore from an Online backup when you complete loss your system.
Please some tips.
Best Regards,
Erick IlarrazaHi Eric,
Thanks a lot for your reply, I will follow the Note 96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on ORACLE point 5.
5.) Restore profile and log files, as you sayed in case of disaster we will lost our "source" system.
On the other hand to configure the legato client we take care of the name of the server, we configured the .sap, .cfg and .utl files so in theory the restore will be done on the new test system since we run the brrestore command from that system.
Officially there is not a documentation from SAP to do a Restore from a Online Backup with SAP ECC, SAP Netweaver (ABAP / ABAP + Java). You only have the 96848 note??? I found the following information:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/65/cade3bd0c8545ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm
But there is not a official procedure like a System Copy Guide or Installation Guide.

[HELP] Problem with restore and recovery to new host
Hi, guys!
I have been trying for two days, but still cannot get it to work.
I have taken a full hot(online) backup with archive logs as well as the control file and SPFILE, and then copied the backup to the new host with the same directory structure and settings. Finally, I have tried to restore & recover the database on the new host but failed during the restore process.
Both the original host and the new host have the same Oracle installed down to the patch level. I couldn't figure out the proper solution to this problem base on my limited knowledge about Oracle DB.
Could anyone help me out here? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello!
Is there some simple step-by-step guide for disaster recovery of Enterprise 4.7, WAS 620, Oracle?
I am trying to create a disaster recovery scenario for our production based on DB13 backup and brrestore (I am doing backup to disk). The backup works fine and I have got the new machine to play with restore.
I am not very experienced BC and here's how my unsuccessfull try went on:
1. Installed the new SAP system on the "playground" machine with the file structure same as on production (the system was installed properly, I was able to log-on)
2. Stopped the new system and its database
3. messed a little with init<DBID>.sap until brrestore went on
4. brrestore-ed from the backed-up production files (the entire 'sapbackup' folder):
brrestore -b bdrfydrx.and -m full
; the brrestore run successfully and the files on the new system were replaced by the backed-up production files.
5. Attempted to run SAP: the processes were green for about 1 minute; however, I wasn't able to log on, and then the disp+work died (went not yellow, but rather grey)
6. Stopped the services
7. Replaced kernel with the production kernel (copied the entire 'usr' folder, shared the 'usr\sap' folder as saploc and sapmnt)
8. Attempt to start the services - it got even worse: the SAP<SAPSID>_<SYSNO> service wouldn't start. The popup says that the service returns no error, but it's rather a Windows or internal service error.
And now I'm stuck. Please help! The SAP notes on this matter (such as 96848 - Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on Oracle) have endless iterations of reference notes, and are not very tutorial-organized. The Installation Guide "Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy..." includes only copy based on running SAPinst to export the database, not on backup/restore.
Is there something better?
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Igor
P.S. If I survive, I promise to write a "restore for dummies" weblog on this.Hello,
Here is the guide:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/72/96d34c435c3c4ca5894749ef1435ac/frameset.htm
Also,
I thought after you restroed the brrestore backup, you need to recover you database by restoring all your redo log files to the target server and issuing the command in sqlplus:
recover database until cancel auto;
Can you paste your alert log ?

Restore Database with Oracle 9i with a New Host using RMAN
Gurus,
I am trying to restore a database from some RMAN created files on a new host with a new directory structure for some testing. I do not have access to the source database.
The database is Oracle 9i.
The files that have been created are the following:
'C-2995630462-20110214-00' is the control file and SP file backup.
'B_ABM4KAJ5_1_1' is the database backup.
B_ACM4KARS_1_1 and B_AAM4KAIV_1_1 are archived redo logs
Here is the RMAN listing from when the files were created:

I am new to using RMAN and I'm hoping someone could point me in a direction of some documentation to assist with the scenario described above. I've looked at several Oracle documents but have been unable to find a way to separate out the spfile from the control file.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Thanks Meeran.
I have attempted to follow the directions from the RMAN document that you posted and have run into the following error:

Oracle Application Server 10g Disaster Recovery
Hi all,
This is regarding Disaster Recovery approach for Oracle Application Server 10g. There are two environments Active (DC-PROD) and Stand-By (DR-PROD). Each environment have 2 nodes where OAS Instances are installed in both nodes and each environment has a Virtual Hostname (Virtual IP) used. The 2 nodes hostnames of DC-PROD environment differs from 2 nodes of the other environment DR-PROD.
However the Virtual Hostname is same between two environments.
The env DC-PROD is setup already and is working fine. Now we have to setup DR-PROD env for disaster Recovery purpose. DR-PROD is also setup independently from DC-PROD. Each env has seperate DB servers in RAC mode. We are using EMC SRDF replication technology to do DB replication between DC-PROD and DR-PROD environments.
There is no disk replication between Oracle Application Servers of two environments DC-PROD and DR-PROD. DC-PROD is NOT setup using Oracle AS Guard for some reasons and we are in a situation that DC-PROD should not be touched at all.
So if the Database is replicated from DC-PROD to DR-PROD servers using EMC SRDF replication technology, while bring up OAS Infra services in DR-PROD node, OC4J is failing to come up. After some workarounds, OC4J cameup but we are unable to login to OIDDAS console.
ssoServer.log shows the following: -
Mon May 30 11:01:23 IST 2011 [DEBUG] AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-8 DatabaseConfigReadergetting partner apps configs: select site_id, site_token, site_name, home_url, success_url, logout_url, encryption_key, encryption_mask_pre, encryption_mask_post, start_date, end_date, administrator_id, administrator_info from wwsso_papp_configuration_inf_t where site_id = '06B9F06C'
Mon May 30 11:01:23 IST 2011 [DEBUG] AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-8 Partner Site ID: 06B9F06C
Mon May 30 11:01:23 IST 2011 [DEBUG] AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-8 exception before getAuthLevel
oracle.security.sso.server.conf.ConfigurationException: Partner application configuration not found:06B9F06C
at oracle.security.sso.server.conf.DatabaseConfigReader.getPartnerConfiguration(DatabaseConfigReader.java:143)
Please provide us the inputs to achieve Disaster Recovery for OAS 10g without using Oracle AS Guard.
This is very urgent and your inputs are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Mahendra.Another point to add for the environment details. Both DC-PROD and DR-PROD environments does not have connectivity at all. Only the DB connectivity is there for doing DB replication.
EMC SRDF replication technology is a block by block replication i.e., a disk replication. Hope these details are sufficient for environment specifications. -
Disaster recovery in Oracle BPEL
Hi,
For a disaster recovery scenario, how does Oracle BPEL support lost transactions? Is there any mechanisum which takes care of re-sending the lost transactions and checking for duplicates?
As Oracle BPEL maintains state information, does Oracle BPEL take's care of lost transactions on server startup.
Can anyone please, through some light on Disaster recovery in Oracle BPEL.
Thanks and Regards
Raj> I am confused. Option 3 will be restoring backup
Yes - but what will you restore? Everything? If you're running on a cluster it's unlikely that both nodes will fail at the same time so there is still one node that can and will run the software, no?
> and 4 will be sapinst. Isn't it? Are both options supported by SAP?
Yes.
> Is there a SAP standard documentation for building cluster from scratch and build SAP system from backup or sapinst for DR?
The standard installation documentation cover a cluster installation.
> I am sure there will be installation document if it is a fresh installation. But not sure if there is one for DR.
If you have a cluster then you have a high availability already. If a node fails, you will "just" reinstall that node and put it back into the cluster.
What kind of DR scenario are you thinking about?

Fusion Middleware, Disaster Recovery Sites with Oracle Applications
I have oracle applications EBS R12.x.x deployed with one disaster recovery site. I have some composite applications built on SOA 11g suite deployed at OFM which is taking care of my EBS R12.x.x (not disaster recovery site) instance. When my EBS R12.x.x down, is it possible that services deployed at OFM starts taking care of my disaster recovery site.
RegardsThere really aren't any stupid questions, just dumb answers :-)
Have taken a look at B/R section in Admin Guide?
For 10.1.3.x refer this:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/core.1013/b32196/part5.htm#i436649
For 10.1.2.x refer this:

Hope this will help.

Oracle VM disaster recovery network meta file discovery fails.
I am using the Oracle White Paper "Oracle VM 3: Integrating Oracle VM into a Disaster Recovery Solution using SAN"
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/ovm3-disaster-recovery-1872591.pdf
The problem I am facing is that during the server discovery process in part 2 step 8 the meta network config files from the Primary site are not being recognized by the servers at the DR Site.
I received no errors during the DR Site server discoverer process which should have picked up the meta network config files brought over from the Primary Site OVM servers. I have rediscovered the servers and I have restarted the servers with no success. I am stuck any help or guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you, RussellAfter working with Greg King the Author of "Oracle VM 3: Integrating Oracle VM into a Disaster Recovery Solution using SAN" and Sairam Thota from Oracle support, we have come to the conclusion that this is a bug. We did upgrade to OVM 3.2.6 from OVM 3.2.1 with no success on resolving this issue. However, Greg did get the network config files working on the DR site but he had to do it manually. The SR with Oracle that I created is still open and I am awaiting a bug number to be assigned for this issue.
Thank you, Russell -
Oracle Business/Disaster Recovery Test Plan ?
I've been asked to create a business/disaster recovery plan (Cover our Oracle environment) outlining what to test in the event of a DR/BR situation once the DB has been restored. Does anybody have a word template or any information would assist me in this task
ThanksI cannot give you a templace since that would be a site specific confidential documents; however, you really do not need one.
You might just consider adding a note that the exact steps required would depend on the exact nature of the diaster but in all cases would basically follow the pattern of
restore missing files
forward recovery the restored database using the backed up archive logs
open the restored, recovered database
Upon startup Oracle will check itself for consistency. If the database is found to be consisten, which it should be, then the database will be opened. The application can now be started. No additional checks by the DBA are required.
In the event the database is not consistent then the steps above would be repeated for the file(s) not restored as part of the first attempt and the process repeated. Error information will be logged to the database alert log file.

Enterprise Manager Configin a new host after recovery from cold backup
Dear friends ,
we have recovered a DB in new host(windows) from the cold backup.
Listener is configured and EM is also configured .
I am able to login through the EM . In the front page i get an error like
java.lang.exception:unknownhost exception sensding request ::<hostname>.<domain>
Please Note :The hostname from which we have taken backup(operation system) is different from the new host name where have recovered the DB.
Also when i clicked the link for administration page or performance page
i was taken to the login page which was showing as follows
user name:
password:
Connect String : <old host name>.<domain name>
Now i dont know where is parameter of old host details are stored and how it has to be replaced.
Please reply if anyone can have the solution .
Thanks in advance
MadhuPlease Note :The hostname from which we have taken backup(operation system) is different from the new host name where have recovered the DB
This is the call for trouble actually.EM repository stores the info of hostname/ipaddress of the machine where it is configured. So any change in that information will not let you use EM.There are couple of files which are there in which this information is stored and if needed, that information can be be manualy edited.But manual editing is not a good way to deal with repository.So the better option for you is to recreate the repository of your EM
Follow the link for the description of the commands.
You would have to use
$emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
$emca -config dbcontrol db -repod createHTH

Disaster recovery of Oracle Apps(financials)
We have an 11i Financials App server and 8i backend database installed on two seperate units. At our remote location, we have a standby database. Archive log files generated by production are copied and applied to the standby. To minimize support costs, we would like to have a Finanncials App server on the same machine as the standby database. The Financial's app server is more for disaster recovery in case the production office is inaccessable for an extended period of time.
Are there any white papers on Financials (Apps) disaster recovery?Dan,
do you mean
sh ./ovm_upgrade.sh dbuser=ovs dbpass=<password> --fixup

RMAN backup and restore for Disaster Recovery
Hi Guys,
I am very new to Oracle and have a question about RMAN backup and restore feature. I am simulating a disaster recovery scenario by having two VMs running oracle 11g, say hosta and hostb, hosta is sort of production db and the other a disaster recovery db (one that will be made primary when disaster occurs). My goal is to backup production db using RMAN and restore it on the other machine. For some reason when I restore the db on hostb, the command restores the previous backup but not the most recent one e.g. I took a backup yesterday (09/20) and applied it to the hostb that worked fine, but when I try to apply a fresh backup from today (09/21) it always picks up the old backup. Here's a dump of the screen:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
RajeshThanks guys, I really appreciate all your help here. I redid everything all over again to get all the information you guys wanted. Since I noticed that more eyes are looking into this I am going to reiterate my steps one more time followed by specific answers to questions. My first backup on Host B is located under ..../restore_db/backupset whereas the subsequent one is under .../restore_db/backupset/backupset2.
I take backup on Host A using:
rman target /
backup as compressed backupset database plus archivelog;
backup spfile;
quit;
I restore the backup on Host B using:
set dbid=13732232063;
startup force nomount;
restore spfile to '/oracle/app/dev/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/spfileforums.ora' from '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset/o1_mf_nnsnf_TAG20110928T171830_787gbpxh_.bkp'

quit;
/* restart rman here */
alter database mount;
catalog start with '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset' noprompt;
restore database;
recover database;
alter database open resetlogs;

I take another backup on Host A using (notice no spfile backup this time):
backup as compressed backupset database plus archivelog;
quit;
I restore the database on Host B using:
alter database mount;
catalog start with '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset/backupset2' noprompt;
recover database;
alter database open;
quit;

SAP Netweaver 7.10 Disaster Recovery
Hi all,
I was testing some disaster recovery procedure for one of my SAP systems which has an Oracle 10g backend and is installed on RHEL 5.4 64bit
Practically I backed up and restored all the directories:
/usr/sap/*
/sapmnt/*
/oracle/<SID>/* (only directories containing binaries and log directories)
passwd, shadow, group and gshadow files (so SAP users and groups have the same configs and ids)
home directories of users <sid>adm and ora<mvd>
hostnames also are identical
And after that through the HP DataProtector SAP agent I restored the database and all the archived logs.
I have arranged to start the Database but when trying to restart sap instance the /startsap_DVEBMGS10.log file gives the following:
(3960) Local: rm -f ms.sapMVD_DVEBMGS10

Just to mention that in terms of memory the original machine has 8GB of RAM and 16 logical CPU meanwhile the virtual machine where I am trying to perform the restore has only 2GB and 2 logical CPU
Please help because I am kind of stuck.
Best Regards,
DriniHello,
I had forgotten to replicate the /etc/services file to the new machine.
Now the log files display only failure for the dispatcher process
