That's a Text edit doc. (420 KB) That's all that shows.
Disc 2 info says it has used 7.56 GB.
What's the rest and where is it? Faulty Disc? I'm running just fine from Disc 1.

I do not recall using Disc 2 in Nov. In fact "half vast" doesn't remember anything. My guess is that's because 10.4.6 was pre installed.
While lurking I have seen lots of reference to it. Search showed several.
The KB is a good read.
Sorry I missed congrats on 12/23/00 anniversary. Belated "Congrats"
Have another Green Star for your top heavy crown. ;~)

  • Using a Mac Mini install disc (10.4.6) to upgrade a Power PC G4 (10.3.9)

    Hello everyone,
I would appreciate a little advice if possible...
I am wondering if I can use the "system install discs"
(intel-based system 10.4.6) that came with my new Mac Mini,
to upgrade my older Power PC G4 currently running system 10.3.9?
I wish to have both computers running the same system.
I tried inserting the first (Mac mini system 10.4.6) install disc into my G4, and had a kernel panic...
couldn't reboot, and after many tries I had to manually eject the DVD.
Any advice and tips to lead me through this??????
    THANKS!!!!!!!!

    nipnkep,
No, you can't do it that way.
The install disks are system-specific, and Intel system disks don't work on PPC Macs.
Your software license also doesn't permit installation on multiple Macs.
You could buy the retail version of Tiger, or you could wait a few months and buy a "Family Pack" retail version of Leopard, which will allow you to install OS X on up to five Macs in the same household.

  • Problem with starting Photoshop CS6 in Windows 8.1 after PC weak up from sleep

    Hello,
I have continuously problems with Photoshop CS6. After weak up my PC from sleep mode Photoshop take ages to start. It take about 15 minutes than it starts. After restart it's just fine and Photoshop start up in few seconds. Before with Windows 8 was everything ok.
I tried reinstall whole Creative Suite, delete all files from system folders of Photoshop, no plugin used, all is up to date!
CS used: Creative Suite Design Standard CS6, Czech language (Photoshop 13.01 64 bit and 32 bit - both do the same)
System: PC, Windows 8.1 64bit Czech language, system and program discs: Intel and Corsair SSD, CPU Intel i7 4Ghz, 24GB RAM, Graphic - Nvidia Geforce 580 GTX (graphic drivers up to date).
    Adobe need to fix that.
Thanks for help, it's really annoying problem.

Along with all the other problems in this world that are all Adobe's fault.
OK so this all went pear shaped after updating Windows to 8.1?  Have a look at Preferences > Performance and see if Graphics acceleration is still checked.  Or it might even be greyed out.    Apparently the 8.1 installer arbitarily installs a generic graphics card driver, so you might find that your drive is not so up to date as it used to be.
You know that you need to update it from the card maker's site?

  • Dropping frames during capture

I touched on this topic months ago, but have found no solution.
I am running CS4 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine with 12gb of RAM, twin 1500 gb hard discs, Intel Core i7 chip, ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card.
When capturing video from my Canon HV30 camera, or from my Sony miniDV tape deck, roughly every 90 seconds or so there is a second or two of interference  Little flashes of light appear in the capture window, often frames are dropped, and a quick burst of interference appears on the sound.  This also occurs if I am not capturing, but just playing, or indeed just pausing, the video in the capture window.
It's not the FireWire cable: I've tried two.
It's not the camera or the Sony deck; they work fine capturing onto my lap-top
I've tried shutting down every programme I can on my desk-top
    I've tried changing screen resolution
I've tried saving to a different hard disc
I've updated drivers for my graphics card
I don't think it's interference in my room, as again I can capture, via Windows Live Movie Maker, onto my lap-top
The same problem occurs when I use Windows Movie Maker on my desk-top, so it's not CS4 itself
The only things I can think of are: graphics card fault, or a fault with the 6-pin firewire slot.  But I only have one firewire slot.
Can anyone suggest any solutions, please?

    Thank you, Bill and Jim.
The interference is only roughly every minute or 90 seconds, but I agree the probable cause is some process.  Bill, if I close down everything I possibly can using Task Manager, won't that also include the ones started at boot/startup?
I have only one FireWire slot and therefore the camera is the only FireWire device I will have plugged in at the time.

The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
    1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
    2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
    3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
    4. Partition your drive.
    5. You can see the Windows installer screens at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2.

Contact Apple (call AppleCare) and for a nominal fee the discs will be replaced.  You can do that or purchase Snow Leopard (still availble from Apple for $20) and do an erase and install of OS X making the machine like a new machine.

  • Intel iMac won't boot from disc or in safe mode - cannot repair disk

I have an early Intel iMac 20" (2GHz core duo) that generally works fine. I recently ran Onyx and it reported a startup disk error, suggesting I insert the install disk, hold 'c', and use disk utility to repair the disk.
NOTE: I have performed this operation successfully in the past and know how to do it.
On this occasion, the iMac simply booted up to the normal desktop each time after multiple attempts at booting from both the original OSX 10.4.4 install disc and the OSX 10.5.1 install disc (current os is 10.5.8).
I then attempted to start holding 'shift' to start in safe mode but again, repeated attempts all landed me on my normal desktop.
I then attempted to hold 'option' to be given the choice of startup disc but again was ignored and went straight to my normal desktop after multiple attempts.
Note that my iMac appears to be running fine otherwise. I was just trying to perform some routine maintenance and have run across this problem.
Any ideas? This mac will be 5 years old soon and I would like to keep it running for a while longer.

    Hello Devoidarex
You'll want to use the Leopard Install DVD to Repair your Startup Volume and may want to try a USB keyboard if your using a wireless.
Another option is to insert the DVD and go to: System Preferences > Startup Disk > select the Install DVD > then Restart.

  • Changed out the hard drive in my imac mid 2007 intel.  Once the disc loads, I get "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." Help! Be gentle. I am truly a novice.  Thanks in advance.

I changed the hard drive in my mid 2007 Intel Imac.  I'm trying to re-install the the op system. I'm receiving a message stating that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." I am a "newbe" to Mac's.  Can someone help? Please be gentle.  I raeally am a novice. Thanks in advance

I believe these are the wrong system restore discs for your model iMac, assuming your are correct that you have mid 2007 iMac.
These gray colored type restore discs are Mac-machine specific and are the wrong ones for your iMac.
    They will not work.
The original OS X restore discs for your model iMac would either install OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.
You have gray system restore discs for a later model iMac. These will not work with iMac year and model.
    Sorry.
You need to purchase a full retail version of OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard here instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
These discs will work with your year and model iMac.
Assuming that your hard drive was installed properly, these white retail OS X install discs should be able to boot, format and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to your 2007 iMac.
    Good Luck!

    Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
(The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

  • Running 10.5.8 on Intel Core Duo, Snow Leopard disc (purchased from Apple) won't work

I am running 10.5.8 on my iMac and want to upgrade to Lion. Was told to upgrade to Snow Leopard first. Purchased the Snow Leopard install DVD from Apple, but it begins the installation process then says CD is dirty. Hooked up an external DVD drive and tried again, got the same message. I literally unwrapped the disc and put it directly into the drive...it couldn't have gotten so scratched or dirty that it wouldn't work.
    Here is my system info:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac4,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:          1.83 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          2 MB
      Memory:          1.5 GB
Any ideas on what I can do? I've read that there were tons of problems with this disc/upgrade...
    Thanks!

Call the place you bought Snow Leopard from, and ask for them to replace the disk as it or your DVD drive is obviously defective.   As others have noted, you can't upgrade to Lion regardless.
That said, before you install 10.6, be sure you really are prepared for it: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
And if after getting a replacement 10.6 disk it fails to install, verify your PRAM battery is not over 4 years old, and that your optical drive isn't dirty by bringing it in for service.

  • My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds

My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds.  The last time I used my disc hardware was to install software for a new Cannon all in one.  It worked perfectly.  I have tried many discs including one movie made on this same machine.  Pleease help me troubleshoot before I have to transport my computer to the Apple store.   Thank you in advance.

It could be that the laser has dust on it; a laser cleaning disk is available at stores which specialize in audio and video- BestBuy, or OfficeDepot would be a place to start. Run a cleaning session to see how that plays out. It could be the optical drive itself. The best approach is first to try steps that do not involve transporting your iMac as you indicate.

  • Do iMac (Intel) play blu-ray discs?

before I back-up stuff from my DVD recorder onto blu-ray discs, will they play on my new iMac (Intel) ?
Also, given the comparative lack of availability of blank blu-ray discs, does this mean people are favouring other means to back up material they wish to archive on their DVD recorders; and if so, can someone recommend them (specifically for Panasonic DVD recorders) ?

Apple does not make an Apple-branded BluRay player, but just about any USB BluRay Player will work on a Mac. It will plug and play. All drivers are already included with Mac OS/X.
Apple's DVD Player software does not work with BluRay, so you will need a third party app to use as a player.
Here is a good article from MacWorld which covers some good options.

  • Imac Intel hard disc and disc drive change (in french)

    Hello, a fellow from the macbidouille community (french mac board) has put online a very comprehensive guide on how to proceed for changing disc drive and hard drive in an Imac G5 Isight 20" 2,1ghz (also good for the IMac G5 17" 1,9GHz iSight (MA063LL/A), IMac Intel Core Duo white 17" (MA406LL/A and MA199LL) and 20" (MA200LL), but also iMac Intel Core 2 Duo white 17" (MA710LL et MA590LL), 20" (MA589LL) and 24" (MA456LL;
    Also another one for the iMac G4 17" 1,25GHz USB2.0 (valid also for the iMac 20" 1,25GHz USB2.0 (M9290LL/A)).

You are saying that your hard drive in Disk Utility shows 150 GB, and when you click Info that also shows 150GB? This would be the hardware drive details, indicated by the name of a drive manufacturer like Hitachi or Seagate? Plus when you select that and click Info, the pop up shows the same capacity (followed by the actual number of bytes)?
Offset under the hardware drive in the initial Disk Utility list will be any partitions that you have mounted. If selected, they will show the name under which they are mounted on the Mac. That should give a complete list (bottom of page) of the mount point, drive size, number of bytes used, and number of bytes free. What do they say?

  • In attempting to install recommended software updates I get a message saying my startup disc is full.  I have an Intel-based desktop with 1GB memory.  What can I safely remove?

In attempting to install recommended software updates I get a message that my startup disc is full.  I have an iMac (intel-based) with 1GB memory.  I suspect my iTunes library is using up much of the space (I have no movies installed and have already copied most of my photos to a DVD to free up space).  If I follow the instructions to move my iTunes library to an external HD (can I use a flash drive?) will I have enough working memory to plug it back in for use when I want to access the library?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Moving libraries off the boot disk while doable is not very viable.  It creates many new problems in backing up your data, as now you have more than one source to backup.    See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
My suggestion is to get at least two copies of all your essential data in one manner or another, and get a larger boot hard drive to replace what you currently use to be able to consolidate your libraries.
As for cleaning space, see my FAQ*:
