I am trying to burn CDs from an iTunes playlist and get the message "The disc burner is in use by an application other than iTunes" when it is not in use. This happens about half the time

Are you playing a song from the playlist you are trying to burn. This happened to me and playing a different song fixed it for me. For now ;-)

My burner was working fine a few days ago, yesterday I tried to burn a playlist from itunes and I got the error message in the subject of this post.
I checked to see if my burner was working...according to the system it is working properly. Also, I am able to burn and backup files and photos. For some reason I cannot burn music as a data file or music CD.
Any suggestions? I have a hp PC...how can I tell if my burner is indeed being tied up by another program or if my computer has a virus?

been having the same problem for months.
i can only burn cd's in itunes for a few minutes after rebooting my g5. nothing is physically wrong with my burner and there is NO other application using it as the Itunes error states...

What order are you doing things in to burn this?
Try clicking "Burn Disc" before inserting a CD. iTunes should prompt you to insert a disk and it might just work. As opposed to putting in a disk first, then clicking burn.

I have updated to the lastest OS on my IPad3. No problem there. Then found I could no longer access my Itunes as there was a message 'Cannot be used as it requires version 10.6.3 or later. Go to ... and download'. I have tried four times and it won't work. I get another message saying I must sign in as administrator or contact my system administrator. Many thanks diesel. I cannot remember ever having an administrator password. Looks like I shall have to do a restore on my PC and not bother with the updates. Or maybe I could find my password from somewhere ? When I went into control panel I found a box with administrator and my name and it said password protected so I must have had one at some time. Any ideas on how I could find it ? Many thanks anyway. I always use a password to sign on but obviously that is not it. Eileen

Disc burner or software not found (itunes 11.4.0.18)

I have just recently starting getting this message -- no change to iTunes version; adobe pro/other adobe sw installed. I can read cd's (purchased or burned on the exact same external HP CD). Windows 7 can burn the cd fine (at least in one test).
I'm curious as to what causes this and how to tell what the fix would be. I have seen other items while searching, but they're usually of the 'try one of these three things - the Gear is pretty involved, not hard, just a bit more than I want to do to find out it doesn't work. So -- any thoughts on the cause and how to tell what the fix would be?

So, it's the lowerfilter having a value that's causing my problem (my upperfilter matches the article you listed)? How did this get set to iaStorF (or what software sets this)? I'll try removing that and restarting and see what happens, but I typically like to know why I'm doing something, especially when the article says "If this resolves the issue"...
The first 3 bullets of the article aren't in the problem I'm seeing.

Why icudt49.dll is missing after an Update?! Now I can't use the itunes now! Please fix it.

I just updated the itunes and after the update, it says icudt49.dll is missing and asked me to try to reinstall again and I did. But it does not work. This is very upsetting. Please fix it as soon as possible.

Discs burned from iTunes 10.1 will not play on some Sony CD players

I'm having a problem with 32 bit iTunes 10.1 (on Windows XP sp3) where burned discs will not play on my Sony CDP355 or CDP400 carousel CD players but will play on a Sony CDP455. Discs burned with earlier versions of iTunes used to work fine with these players (I think). Also, these "incompatible" players did not recognize the disc as one containing CD text. In fact, they would not read the disc at all.
My friend running 64 bit iTunes 10.1 on a Windows 7 machine doesn't have this problem with discs she burns. They will play OK on those exact same players.
Burned files seem to play OK on most of my other CD players and I have confirmed the files are CDA format files (not MP3).
I had selected MAXIMUM SPEED, AUDIO and INCLUDE CD TEXT in my burn settings.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for this suggestion. I reduced the burn speed to 12X (my burner is 48X maximum) and made another copy. It works just fine. I'll experiment with higher speeds later but for certain the 12X speed solved the problem.

Using Uk ITunes while living in Spain

I am moving to spain for 2 years and currently have an UK iPhone 4 (unlocked) which I want to take with me. Over there I will use a spanish micro sim with it. But I want to know if I can still access my Uk iTunes account on my iPhone and laptop (also taking with me). I will still have a Uk debit card/ bank account to use for purchases, the same one I'm using with ITunes now. I do not want to sign up to a Spanish iTunes, I want to keep my English one.
I would also like to know if all the apps I have downloaded will still work while in Spain, Ie: Facebook, twitter, etc...

Following new motherboard and cd/dvd reconnection, when i try to burn a disc from itunes I now get the message "The Registry settings used by itune drivers for importing and burning CD's

Basically we had a new motherboard fitted, we then found our CD/DVD drive had not been reconnected. After this has been done, when we try to burn a cd from itunes, we get the following message:-

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content is not allowed?.
The most recent key I altered is in: HKey _local _machine. System\class - 4D36E965-E325-11CEBFC1-08002BE10318. Upper Filter data: Upper filter NTIDrvr SiRem GEARAspiWDN.
