Disc communication failed

When i'm trying to burn a DVD i got this message just recently,
"Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)
I try to burn a cd and it worked! Also tried another DVD and nothing, also test in another Power Mac and the same thing happen
(i just recently installed apple lastest software update for this mac it was something related with Power Macs but with Intel )
Do you think its just coincidence or it did affect my drives completly

What is the make and speed of your drive (DVD write speed)? What type and speed of DVD media are you using. I found that my 2x DVD drive was having problems with some types of 8x and 16x media. I ended up adding an additional DVD+/-RW DL drive. Here's data on mine for comparison (from System Profiler (Disc Burning):

My problem was FIXED at the apple store..... there was something wrong in the system preferences and the genius deleted something that recreated it's self. Surely enough we we're able to burn a 600 mb dmg of nothing onto a few test disks. For anyone having this issue...it's NOT The media, it's some configuration issue within the computer's preferences. I'm telling you all to take your machine to the nearest apple store and have them fix it, if your machine is still under warranty the fix is free. There was no hardware issue, so the optical drive was not replaced.

Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
3. Wait fifteen seconds.
4. Attach the computer's power cord.
5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Then zap the PRAM/NVRAM as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.
Then retry the Disc Drive.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd update the thread.
Last night i did a clean install of Leopard over the top of Tiger, and now the DVD drive works without the error. I was able to burn a full disk with no problem.
I thought, incase google bring someone here, I'd post my sequence of events incase it helps someone.
New MBP C2D migrated user from MBP CD
Could not burn disks on media of any format over about 1.5Gb
Put up with the problem as I couldn't afford to lose my MBP for 2 days while it was replaced by Apple.
Upgraded to leopard with formatting drive and clean install. I did not migrate the user, I just reinstalled the apps I wanted, synced my dotmac goodies, and copied over all my data folder by folder.
Result is a fully functioning DVD burner that burns without communication failure.

Sadly, that error has umpteen causes, sometimes the drive is going out, sometimes it's bad media, sometimes a slower burn works, & rarely a Cleaning Disc helps.
Bad File names can even cause it...

In addition to the comments above, when you create a new library with the media that you recover this will be treated as "new" for the device and iTunes may want to wipe it and start over, losing any personal data and settings. The following approach ought to help.
You should be able to:
Backup the device to your iTunes installation
Transfer your purchases into a library authorized to your account
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer (same as above)
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

Attempting to copy to the disc C;/ failed

hello
after having to re-install my os i went to re-import all my songs into itunes, i have about 10GB worth so it takes a while, it imports them fine but it seems that when it goes to copy to the hard drive at some point i keep getting the same stupid error attempting to copy to the disc C;/ failed. The file name was invalid or too long
can anyone help with this??

For some reason my ipod would show up on my computer but not itunes. i tried to do something it said in trouble shooting. it said to go to computer and manage my services and stop the ipod service. it has said stopping for a day now. it won't stop stopping!!
does anyone know what is going on?
is there a way i can reinstall the ipod service? i can't find it anywhere.

Adobe Indesign CS5.5 Disc - Installer failed to initialize

I have been trying unsuccessfully to install my Adobe Indesign cs5.5 disc for the first time into my Dell Latitude E6400 laptop (Windows vista, intel core2 /duo - I meet all the system requirements). I keep getting the message "Installer failed to initialize. Please contact Adobe support."
I followed the indesign cs5 help suggestions at adobe.com and ran the Adobe Cs5 cleaner tool. This did not help. I also turned off my anti-virus to be sure.
Should I instead download the program from the internet and then enter my serial code? Is this my only option? Could you please give me some other suggestions. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I ran Adobe Support Adivsor toll, and the response was "Inspection could not identify any issues." I did not see any log files.
Just to confirm, you went to %APPDATA%\Local\Temp and found that there were a lot of files there, but there was not one called PDApp.log? Are you sure you have the right path?
If that's so, then the installer is failing really early. I suppose it's silly, but have you tried rebooting?
I find it doubtful that uninstalling Acrobat or Reader would help. Though I am slightly curious whether their Uninstallers launch. (For most Adobe products, the Uninstaller and the Installer are very similar, and they both do a bunch of checks and then pop up a window. For uninstallers, there is a chance to confirm before uninstalling. It would be interesting to know if the uninstallers fail to start the same way your InDesign installer has failed. But Acrobat is the product Least Like all the others. It's uninstaller might not behave this way, I'm not sure).
Still, we are getting down to weird or obscure problems. So it may be time to try solutions that are abnormal.
So, lacking anything better to do, assuming you have quadruple-checked for the above log file, why don't you go with your initial idea and try downloading the trial installer. And if it still doesn't work, sure, try uninstalling Acrobat first.

Here ABCD user is also disabling/locking the profile on AS400 server.
When we tried on Dev server, linked server through DSN working properly. Last time when it appeared 2 yrs ago, it resolved automatically. but now more than 10 days passed and still Failing.

So this setup has worked for nine years, and all of a sudden stopped working with this error message? Does not look trivial...
What does Here ABCD user is also disabling/locking the profile on AS400 server mean? Is ABCD able to log in directly on the AS400 box?
One possibility is that the user ABCD has been dropped or disabled, and then there is a bug in the ODBC driver where the first character of the username is distorted in the error message. I note that there are two spaces between "User" and "BCD".
The other possibility is that the AS400 is receiving a login attempt from BCD (or something that ends in BCD with an invisible leading character). This sounds very difficult to troubleshoot...

Seed Demo Community Failes

Hi Im new To the BPM and SOA suite. I currently have it running however now Im required to configure my server for a tutorial. Im trying to seed a demo community and Understand very little what has to be done. here what ive managed to do:

Failed: "C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdev_bpm11g\jdk160_18"\lib\tools.jar does not exist
PLease set your JAVA_HOME to a JDK home.
I then set JAVA_HOME from environment variables to
C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24
I run the code and the same Failed line of command appears how do I go about it??? how can I make it run??
I actually have no idea where to begin with were do I go into to configure the server? the console? or same place where I configured the domain?

1. Inside this folder c:\Oracle\DemoCommunitySeedApp, or search here for a file named "SOATestDemoApp.ear".
2. Start your SOA Domain. If you have Admin and Soa ManagedServer. Start both the servers. Incase if you have only one AdminServer with soa also deployed, just start admin server.
3. Login into Weblogic Admin Console using something like http://youradminhost:adminport/console. Login with domain username/password. On left side, click on Deployments and on right side, click on Install and follow the screens to install the above "SOATestDemoApp.ear" app to the SOA Managed Server. This is important, as it has to be deployed on SOA Server only. If you have only one admin with soa modules, then deploy to that admin server only. Make sure you hit Activate button or look for this file in deployments list on right side with status as Active.
4. Open a new browser, type this below url. Again host, port should be the one that has soa modules deployed.
http://soahost:soaport/integration/SOADemoCommunity/DemoCommunitySeedServlet
Select the xml file and hit the button, and you should be all set. Go back to console, and under Security -> myrealm -> Users and Groups, you should see all the Demo users and groups.
NOTE: There is no need to run ant script or recompile it, if you already have the EAR file. Read the readme.txt file that came with the zip file.

Asynchronous Communication fails

Hi,
I am using Visual Basic.NET 2003 and measurement studio together with National Instruments NI-VISA(TM) Software for Windows. Version 3.0.
Synchronous communication with GBIP instrument (ESG E4438C from Agilent) works fine but I have a problem with asynchronous I/O.
I always get an error like "Unable to queue the asynchronous operation (usually due to the I/O completion event not being enabled or insufficient space in the session's queue)."
What went wrong?

Disc erase failed with error invalid request

HI,
I'm trying to get a new 2.5tb external wd hard drive to work with both my mac and my old pc - so i can backup my old data from the pc.
i have tried using disc utility, and erasing the disk and reformating to ms-dos (fat) format and recieve the following error message:
Disk erase failed with the following request: invalid request
i have also tried partitioning the hard drive, and recieve the same error message.
Any ideas on how to re-format this device?

Disc installation fail

I pre order Snow Leopard through Amazon. A parent receive it and send to Chile, my country. When I try install, the this fail.
I went to Apple reseller, which confirmed that the disk is bad, but they don't change the disc because Apple haven't international warranty for the software. So, I can't Install Snow Leopard.
Who answers?

Did you try starting up from the DVD by holding down c when starting up?

When trying to burn files to a DVD (DVD RDL from Memorex) an error message appears saying: Impossible to burn the disk because communication failed between disk player and computer (error code 0x80020022)

When trying to burn files (1,7 GB) to a Memorex DVD, an error messge says: Impossible to burn the disk because communication between disk player and computer failed (error code # 0x80020022).
Is the Memorex incompatible with my i-Mac or what could it be ?
My i-Mac is a 21", Core 2 Duo with 3.06 GHz. RAM is 8Go 1067MHz DDR3.

That message is usually caused by poor media. i.e. poor coating quality.
Mermorex is generally regarded by most users here as poor quality media. So is TDK. Most of us prefer Verbatim, Fuji, Maxell or Taiyu Yuden DVD-R.
Also burn at only 2x or 4x burn speed.

I am trying to burn an .mp4 video to a DVD in order to test the disc for playback. When I insert the disc, it appears first in the Finder as a blank DVD. I click and drag the video to the DVD and hit "Burn." What follows is an error message:
"'Untitled DVD'" can't be burned because the disck is read-only and can't be modified (error code 0x80020042)."
After that, the disc ejects, and I am back at square one.
I have looked online for similar cases and suggested solutions, but nothing has worked yet. I have verified and repaired my disk permissions via Disk Utility, tried to burn multiple times with different, fresh DVD-Rs, purchased brand new DVD-Rs, and even tried changing the permissions manually via the "Info" panel.
I do not have iDVD or any other third party DVD burning software. In the past, I used iDVD and these very same DVD-Rs to burn a number of student films for playback. At that time, the process was very simple and worked as one might expect it to.
I am wondering if I should just get iDVD or another third party software, but I am reluctant to, because I would think that the OS' built-in burning capability ought to work just as well. Of course, I could easily be mistaken.

Some clarification:
I am not trying to burn a data disc. If that is what I just described, I was unaware that I was attempting to burn a data disc. I am trying to burn a video DVD for playback on a DVD player. If you or anyone here are trying to tell me that I cannot burn a video DVD by performing the process I described, then I will continue to attempt to use the third party software I downloaded instead.
Further clarification:
The problem does not appear to be with the discs. I began testing this issue using Memorex DVD-Rs that I already own. Until today, I had barely touched the stack. However, because it was technically possible that I was using several coasters that I had forgotten about, I went out and bought some additional DVD-Rs - the Verbatims. It is highly unlikely that both the Memorex stack I already owned and the Verbatim discs I just purchased are both duds. I know for a fact that the Memorex discs should work because I have several archived DVD videos on the very same discs.
The real problem appears to be with the drive and how it is reading the discs. For some reason, it is recognizing them as "read-only" and/or not blank, as System Profiler has shown:
