Disc Drive clicking...

My disc drive failed a while ago, and this weekend I finally got around to an apple store. They ran diagnostics, and now upon opening the Macbook (Alumminum, late 2008/early 2009), the disc drive makes clicking noises but still doesn't grab cd/dvd. Also, if I squeeze disc drive area with my hands, clicking eventually stops.

The apple store said they could replace the drive for some amount of money. I'm just curious as to why it would start making sounds after they had run their test on it (didn't realize this until I got home and opened it), when previously it seemed inert.

I purchased CS5 for my laptop (Macbook Pro 2007 I believe) and now have the newest iMac without a disc drive. I have tried remote installation, but it did not work. I was signed in with download assistant, no just in at adobe.com... I've tried different perferences and settings but when I click on the links nothing seems to happen. I've been messing around with this for a few hours now and it dawned on me that it may have something to do with my internet. I live outside the city- totally nice for gardening, totally terriable for internet thus I have a verizon data plan and not unlimited internet, I think possibly verizon is shutting it down because of restrictions I have on my data. This type of thing also happened when I upgraded to Mavericks. The file itself was larger than my month's data so it seemed like it wouldn't initiate the download... I don't know for sure if it is the same problem here but if you're telling me that you are having more successful results than I am that might be the reason.
I'll take my computer to work or to my mom's house or somewhere where I can have unlimited access and see if I have any better success.

Okay, so I'm going to describe the step-by-step following of the instructions [which I thought I had done before ]. If you see where I'm making an error can you point it out to me.
1. I clicked on the link in your post of May 13 which took me to a page called "Direct Download Links for Adobe Photoshop/Premier Elements 10". I have basic Elements, not Premier and I need to get PSE 10 onto a Mac, which the site says I will only need a "single .dmg file for each program". Then I
2. logged in to the Adobe account ( required by instructions ) set up when I bought the disc version last August.
3. I turned "cookie control" to accept all; having a Mac I have no antivirus software nor any firewalls
4. I "clicked here to visit this page" in the instructions .........BUT ............ that took me to a PSE 11 download page, not 10
5. That dropped a .dmg called "AdobeDownloadAssistant.dmg" into my downloads box.
6. I opened the .dmg file, which took me to a window with an "Install Adobe Download Assistant" folder icon which

     Given that there was an error message - that the download was not complete - that explains my surprise in # 8 above that
     "the download already exists........". That can't be given the error message I quoted in # 11.
12. There is/was no "Reset download button" to be seen so I cllcked on an 'x' by it and it closed the stalled download bar.
And, after all this voluminous [sorry] activity that's where I'm stuck.
No PSE 10 on the Air
Can't d/l a trial of 11, even if I wanted to.
Extremely frustrating.
Adboe's website does not appear to offer any contact with an Adobe person to solve this other than paying $39, which does not seem right.

I need to upgrade to iOSX 10.6 Snow Leopard but have a nonfunctional disc drive. Can I download the software or get it on my computer any other way?

I gave my 2010 iMac to my father but it has a nonfunctioning disc drive (cannot read any type of disc). It's operating on OS X 10.5 Leopard. We need to upgrade him to at least OS X 10.7 Lion, but judging by what I've read so far, we cannot do that without first installing OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I cannot find a way to download OS X 10.6, and having the disc shipped is not an ideal option. Does anyone know of a way I can download a legit copy? Another option — though I'm not sure it'll work — is to order the OS X 10.6 disc, transfer the files from the disc to a USB key on my newer Macbook Pro, then bring it over to my dad and install it on his iMac from the USB key. Does anyone have experience with this who knows if it will work or not? Thank you!

I have a PC w/ Windows 7, but when i try and create a Windows image from the control panel onto a flash drive it gives me an error msg (yes, I did format the flash drive first).
So, problem #1, I need Windows 7 or 8 on a flash drive (where, when, how)
Problem #2, once it is on a flash drive (if that is even possible!) is the BootCamp partition even worth it? I hear lots of problems in these forums.
OR... can i purchase an older version (say CS3) of photoshop and download it to a flash drive?? The CD is no use to me since I do not have a CD drive.
HELP!!!! I got the mac to be easier, but so far I'm not getting my work done for weeks....I'm ready to sell it and go back to PC.

I have the 15" MacBook Pro Retina and installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp was a breeze. I own the Windows 7 Upgrade on disc. Basically to activate Windows 7 on the Bootcamp partition, you have to install Windows 7 twice. Here are the steps that I followed.
An external Superdrive is NOT required. This does require another computer with Windows installed on it though.
On a computer running Windows do the following:
Step 1: Download the Windows 7 iso file from this link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc. html
Make sure to download the version that matches your license ( if you already own Win7 and choose the 64-bit download)
If you already own a valid Windows 7 license then there is no need to purchase another disc/license code
Either a Windows 7 Full or Windows 7 Upgrade license can be used. Only the licenses differ as the iso files are all the same.
Step 2: Download the Windows USB/DVD Mounting tool to mount the iso that you downloaded onto your flash drive http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
After following the directions you are ready to begin your installation on your Mac
On the Mac which you are installing Windows on do the following:
Step 3: Plug the flash drive into your Mac and launch the bootcamp installer. Follow the directions and install the Windows support files onto another usb flash drive. If you do not have one present you can always return and download the support files.
Step 4: On the Windows 7 installer choose the custom (advanced) install option. After that select your bootcamp partition (it should say bootcamp) and click Drive Option (advanced). Click format. Make sure you have your bootcamp partition selected to prevent the accidental deletion of your primary OSX partition. Proceed with the rest of the installer.
Step 5: Follow the installer until you are prompted to insert the license key. DO NOT ENTER THE LICENSE KEY AND CLICK CONTINUE. After Windows is sucessfully installed fire up the Windows installer from the flash drive from the windows desktop. Go through the installer again this time choosing Upgrade instead of Custom (Advanced). Once Windows installs again, proceed to activate Windows manually from the Control Panel. After putting in your license code, the activation may fail and prompt you to activate using Microsofts phone activation system. If so follow their directions and you should be good to go.
The above steps worked well for me. Let me know if you have any questions.

Installing itunes on my pc using windows 7 makes the disc drives disappear

does anyone have a fix for this? I'm using a pc with windows 7, used to be able to uninstall itunes and the drives would reappear, now that doesn't work so I have no disc drives. Have tried everything (my computer friend has, for me) including a new disc drive - same problem. AM ready to buy a new computer, but searches indicate the problem may occur with a new computer as well.

New Hard Disc Drive for HP Pavilion dv6 because of 303 and 305 error messages

My laptop was getting slower and slower so I did a default restore via the recovery partition and when it rebooted to start the reformat and reinstall to factory condition I got a message on the screen telling me to run the hard disc drive test. Did this and got the 303 and 305 error messages. The restore to default setting worked however after doing research in the error codes I realise I'm up for a new hard disc drive.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion dvd6-3203TU with WIndows 7 Home Premium installed. It currently has a 320GB TOSHIBA MK3265GSXX hard disc drive in it.
After reading through the forums I'm happy to find that my Recovery Discs will reinstall everything to a new hard drive and partition it into a C: drive and also the recovery partition. The main question I have is does my new hard drive have to be 320GB in size like the original or can I buy something like a 500GB+ drive for the laptop. If I have to replace the hard drive I may as will increase the size while at it, if possible that is.
Also does it have to be a Toshiba or can I buy a different brand?
Looking forward to some help in regards to this so thank you in advance also

Hi,
Your notebook is listed as coming with a 320Gb Hard Drive, but you can just as easily install a 500Gb or 750Gb HDD if you want more space - the drives on the following links are examples that would be fine for your notebook - you're in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer.
500Gb Hard Drive
750Gb Hard Drive.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 65 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Disc drive

i'm on a macbook g4 15" with 10.4.11
i've been having a problem with my disc drive for awhile. I accepted a while ago that it was probably just physically broken, but I noticed recently that when I insert any sort of disc, whether it be a pristine DVD or crappy wav. CD that it does seem to read the disc and everything, yet it spits it out after about 15 seconds and never mounts an image or anything. I'd appreciate any help, because if I can't fix this, I may have to buy a new computer, which I'd rather not do on a college student budget.

External disc drive conflict

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2007, and I use some external drives as I do a lot of music recordings. So far I used three USB and one Fire Wire 800 device. When I added another Fire Wire Disc (Seagate 1T) in chain with the other Seagate through the Fire Wire, one of the USB disc disappeared from the external devices list. Stopping the Seagate and removed it, the USB disc appeared again. I suspect a conflict but I do not know how to solve it.

You are saying that your hard drive in Disk Utility shows 150 GB, and when you click Info that also shows 150GB? This would be the hardware drive details, indicated by the name of a drive manufacturer like Hitachi or Seagate? Plus when you select that and click Info, the pop up shows the same capacity (followed by the actual number of bytes)?
Offset under the hardware drive in the initial Disk Utility list will be any partitions that you have mounted. If selected, they will show the name under which they are mounted on the Mac. That should give a complete list (bottom of page) of the mount point, drive size, number of bytes used, and number of bytes free. What do they say?

Help canceled itune backup disc drive wont open??

Why wont my disc drive open to remove disc?
I canceled the stupid itunes offer to back up my music and because said it'd take hours (Im an idiot I guess I didnt know it would take that long).
Now my disc drive wont open I tried ejecting it by my comp and clicking eject disc or open on disc drive didnt work.
Tried task mangager end, didnt do it.
Whats the deal? I will never try to back up itunes again, I mean they save my data I buy anyway.

I received Photoshop Elements 13 (disc install version, not download install version) as a gift, but do not have a disc drive on my HP Ultrabook. After entering redemption code to obtain the serial number I expected (apparently naively) to have the ability to choose a downloadable version of the product to begin installation. Does anyone know if there is a way to redeem this for a downloadable version?

the program is free. the serial number to activate is what costs money (and is what you hopefully received in that gift).
