Disc ejects to early

when burning a dvd, the disc always ejects 5 minutes before the project is complete and ruins my whole project
any help.....please?

The Apple Knowledge Base says: "If the burn fails during Multiplexing or Encoding, try deleting any existing encoded assets from your project. Then, quit iDVD and check to see if there are any third-party (non-Apple) plug-ins in /Library/QuickTime/ and ~/Library/QuickTime/ (the tilde "~" character represents your Home folder). If so, try temporarily disabling these items by moving them to another folder. Open iDVD and try burning your project again."
Close iDVD and trash the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User (your name)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac.
Additionally, make sure that you have sufficient free disk space to burn a disk. 5 GB is said to be the minimum, but 15GB would be better.
Bring all iLife programs up to current versions.
Use DVD-R disks of good quality, like Verbatim, Maxell or HP. Burn at 4x speed or lower if you can. You can burn from a disk image using the Disk Utility app on your Mac, and that will give you a lower speed, which is recommended.
Close all other programs while you are burning, including your screen saver.
You didn't mention whether the problem occurs just for this project or all other projects as well.

  • IDVD ejects dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this?

iDVD ejects the dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this? I have checked project via mapping and there are no problems with it. I have previewed the entire project and it runs fine.

    Good morning,
There could be a few reasons why the burn doesn't finish.  iDVD needs a lot of hard disk space to create the DVD -- 10-15 Gigs is starting to get low and under 5 G is virtually impossible.  Reduce the load on your Mac by quitting other applications while you're trying to burn.  Also, you may wish to break down your workflow into two steps (I do this routinely):
    1)  After you're satisfied in iDVD -- use the Save As Disc Image command rather than going directly to burn.  This creates a virtual DVD which you can mount and play on your Mac.
    2)  Second step creates the physical DVD from the disc image.  I use Roxio Toast to copy the disc image, but Apple's Disk Utility also works to burn the disc image.  Use good quality discs -- Verbatim is often recommended; I've been happy with Sony DVD-R as well.

  • Cannot Install Windows, disc ejects

I have used Boot Camp to install Windows a few times before on my Leopard operating system, though I had to uninstall it a couple times (I realized I couldn't use my reinstall disc from my old PC). Every time it worked smoothly and I never had any troubles.
For some reason this time around, I am able to partition the disc just fine, but when I choose to start the installation, the computer reboots, but instead of installing windows, it ejects the disc needed and simply starts up Mac OSX. I've tried using option to select the disc (the disc ejects before I'm given my options) and telling the computer to reboot using the disc. Neither has worked. I've used this same disc before to install Windows, and it worked fine then. What can I do to make the disc not eject, so I can install windows?

I experienced this as well. What I discovered is if you push the XP install disc back into the drive while your Mac is still at the grey screen when it reboots you will find the install will continue just fine. This will happen a couple of times during the install process, just push the XP install disc back in each time and XP will install.

  • Mac Mini won't start and constantly makes disc ejecting noise

My Mac Mini won't start. It was working fine, then just locked up and won't start again. When I push the start button it just makes this repeated disc ejecting noise from the DVD drive. It doesn't make the chime noise or display anything on the monitor. I've disconnected the optical drive, but it didn't help. Then it just doesn't start at all. I thought that if I would disconnect the optical drive, that it would ignore it and just boot off the hard drive, but nothing happened. The power light comes on. Then, if I hold down the power button for 10 seconds it shuts down. The fan operates. It just never attempts to boot up. I can't put in a system DVD because the optical drive is just in eternal eject mode.
If you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks.

    I have the same situation.
I think the drive thinks it has a disc to eject or part of the mechanism is stuck and can't return to it's resting position. I was going to disconnect as you tried but now I think I'll try to disassemble the drive to see if there might be some debris jamming things up.
Please let me know if you solve the problem.

  • Disc ejects before completion in iDVD

Hi, firstly I'm a little behind the times having only recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, my problem is iDVD. I have a collection of images that I am trying to burn via iDVD all goes well until the burning, the disc ejects about 8 minutes before completion, this has happened five times, I have reinstalled Snow Leopard, as the permissions appeared to be incorrect and did not repair in utilities, but still no joy.
The machine is 2.16Ghz intel core 2 Duo, Memory 2Gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and there is 80GB of memory, also it is iDVD 7 1.2 I know it's not the latest all bells and whistles machine but it worked until the recent upgrade.
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks.

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed (2x - 4x) available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

You will get better results if you use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option and then drag the movie from the Movies pane of the Media Browser in iDVD onto the menu window.
Also I suggest you use this workflow which I learned from Bengt:

  • The Disc ejects

When I am burning a movie onto a Verbatim DVD+R DL, the file is put onto the disc all most all the way and just when the DVD is about to be finished (when the status bar says "about 1 min") the DVD ejects automatically while the status bar says it is still burning. I still have the option to "cancel", but the DVD is already ejected. When I try to play it on my DVD-player, it won't read. I burned basically the same DVD earlier before and it worked fine, but for some reason, it randomly ejects the disc before its done writing. Thanks!!!

just wondering if you got this resolved yet. i'm suddenly having the same problem after having burned several idvd (chaptered) projects successfully (from both imovie and final cut pro). now i can't get through a new idvd project burn or one that i've used successfully just recently. the only difference on my end is that i ran out of fujifilm (dvd-r's) and have switched to sony (on sale). can't imagine that the media brand is the difference. on the other hand, i haven't been paying attention to how much drive space i had while burning (now almost 7gb free). also, i've managed to be able to play the main menus and first bunch of chapters on these early eject dvds but then the dvd player gets stuck on the later chapters and crashes the player. also idvd ultimately needs to be forced quit.

  • IMac G5 20 won't read leopard OS disc & ejects it in 30 seconds

I have an iMac G5 20" 2.1 GHz iSight computer that boots up to the flashing file symbol, which usually means it doesn't have an operating system installed on the hard drive. The previous apple computers I have bought, when I insert the Leopard Mac OS X disc, the apple logo will appear and it will begin to install Leopard on the hard drive. This iMac G5 will except the Leopard disc, but within 30 seconds it will eject it. I tried connecting the computer to a macbook through a firewire cable to see if the hard drive appeared on the desktop of the macbook and it did not.
Does this mean the hard drive isn't recognized or the superdrive isn't working?
Please help... I don't have a clue what's going on with this iMac.
    Thank you in advance!

The hard drive either needs its directory repaired, does not have any data on it for the MacBook to read, or is dead.
If you don't have a backup, these recovery tools may help if they have a version written for PowerPC Macs:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
If you have a backup, follow that link to the point about repairing the directory.
Do not attempt to format it from the MacBook as the hard drive won't be recognized by the iMac if you do.
is what the disk needs to look like to work.   It should not have a Mac model name, nor OEM, or Update/Dropin written on it.
If you have the correct disk, and Disk Utility says it can be formatted with Apple Partition Map HFS+ formatting:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3003 and you can't erase and install from that disk, you may need to replace the PRAM battery.
Otherwise you may need to bring it in for service.

  • MacBook Pro stopped reading discs, ejects them

I bought this MacBook Pro in December of '08 (referbished, but from the apple website) and shortly after had a problem with the drive not reading discs and making odd noises. Took it in and they replaced it under the 90 day warranty. I haven't used the disc drive in at least a year or more now, but when I tried to recently it would act like it was reading the disc with nothing showing up. After a minute it ejects the disc. I've tried at least a dozen different discs that all work fine on my other computer and my MacBook Pro spits them all out.
Obviously I no longer have this thing under warranty, being 4 years old, so is there anything I can try to do without spending $400 I don't have for ANOTHER new optical drive? All of my software is up to date.
Also, if it comes to replacing the drive again, is there any way that I might get it free since this is a recurring problem with a refurbished laptop? I know it's a longshot, but worth asking.

I'm not sure where you come up with the $400 figure unless you are including some very expensive labor.  A replacement drive should not cost more than about $100.  They can be user installed and does not require any exotic tools.  (I have done it)
Have you tried a little cleaning of the drive.  Often a DVD cleaning disk can clean a dusty lens and make it function.  Not having used it a long time does not mean that dust has not seeped in during that period.  I have also heard that judicious use of compressed air will clean the lens.
It never hurts to ask but your chances of getting a new drive for free are about as good as getting palm trees to grow in Antarctica.
    Ciao.

  • Disc ejects on startup

I've been searching for a while now, but still haven't found a solution for this.
Ever since I installed the last update of Leopard, the disc tray on my PowerMac (G5) will eject on startup, before I get to the login screen. I first thought that it was looking to the disc drive for a primary operating system like my PC sometimes did, but couldn't figure out how to change the boot drive.
It's not that bad of a problem, just a little annoying. I've got it on the ground and if I forget to close it back up, my nephew might get a hold of it and snap it off.
Does anybody know what's going on?

Hi! It's a common problem and the cause is odd but i can't remember exactly what it is. I've never read of a fix. Tom

  • IDVD 2008: disc ejects before done burning

I have a 1.5 GB iDVD project that I want to burn on a 4.7 GB empty disc. I click burn, insert disc, but after it says about 11 minutes remaining, it ejects automatically. I inserted it in again, and when it got to "about one minute remaining," it would never quit. Another thing: Message says done after automatic eject. Does anyone know what the problem is?

"Multiplexing error." can be so many things
    • one common one is when text, buttons or objects on the iDVD layout Menu sticks out of the TV-Safe area or even just touching it.
Turn on TV-Safe area and move all well within this.
    • next one is use of other letters than A to Z and 0 to 9 in Film title or in Chapter names. No ;:_,.-°!"#€%&/()=?`´±≈][|§∞$£™©¶ or alike.
If still problems return for my long long long list of thoughts on this.
    AND - Please try a
    • Verbatim DVD-R
    • Cleaning DVD disk in Your DVD-Burner
Beverly Maneatis- is very clever and her suggestion is to split the process to find out if the problem occurs in
    • the en-coding stage or in
    • the actual burning stage
The DiskImage are meant to be tested on Your Mac so that all plays as You intend it to do
Then if this DiskImage is OK it can be burned to DVD via Disk Util tool to be a Video-DVD.

  • Disc ejects before burn finished

I am burning 30 copies of a graduation through iDVD. The movie is over two hours going on a dual layer dvd. Around one-third of the time the dvd will eject anywhere from 1 - 30 minutes before the burn in complete. I have tried stopping and waiting a few hours to let my computer cool off but this does not seem to help. I have 65 gig left on my hard-drive so I don't think that's an issue.

OK I made the disc image and created a burn folder and burnt a memorex dvd on 4x speed this morning. The dvd finished burning successfully...but it wouldn't play on my tv. I tried a second time to and got a 0x80020022 error. I just tried a third time burning at 2x speed, it finished but it won't play. My computer seems to be enjoying eating these expensive dual layer dvds like candy!!
The disc image will play on my iMac in DVD player and the two dvds that finished will play on my iMac in DVD player also.
One thing I thought of was my dvd player, it has played memorex dvds I've made just fine before though. I am going to go try playing the dvd on a neighbor's dvd player now.

  • Can I leave Powerbook on all the time and music pauses when disc ejects.

I have had an imac at home for the last 4 years and always left it asleep when not using it so I could acces my itunes quickly. I have just upgraded to a Pbook G4 17" and am concerned now that I may not be able to leave it on. I read Apples guide to battery use and they say not to leave it plugged in all the time. I thought this was a machine that could be used all the time? Am i safe to leave it plugged in asleep through the day and night with say 3 to 4 hours use in the evening?
Also, when listening to itunes and i eject a disc the music pauses for a moment. I use a G5 at work and my old imac never did this. Someone I work with has the same Pbook but 15" and hers doesnt pause.
Can any one help with these 2 issues? Love my Pbook but these couple of things are taking the shine off it. Thanks for an informative forum.

It is OK to leave your PowerBook on (plugged in) but remember to use your battery once in a while. Lithium-based batteries have to be used. Fully discharging and recharging the battery every two weeks should be OK.
An alternative is removing your battery with a 50% charge. Apple suggests this if you don’t plan on using your battery for more than six months.
