Disc Read Error, Keyboard unresponsive

After attempting to install Windows XP I have gotten the seemingly common Disc Error. The larger problem is that my wireless keyboard is unresponsive so I can not "Press any key to restart" or hold option to boot. I have even gone the length of purchasing an Apple Wired keyboard and I still can not get it to work. The system was purchased new about 6 months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had problems installing Windows XP before but after unplugging extra stuff from USB & Firewire ports like external harddisks and printer the installation worked.
What kind of mac do you have if my suggestion don´t work.. by holding down the power button usually works to get computer to reboot. And then by pressing down the "Option" - key button you get to choose OS. Hope this is a answer.

  • Disc Read Error Ctr + alt + Delete

When I booted up my computer today with a black screen it says Disc Read Errir Ctr + alt + Delete. I restart it as it asks only to end up back at the same screen shortly after. Is something wrong with the Hardware of my computer? I unplugged any USB devices and made sure there was no disc in my disc tray. Help would be appreciated.

A Disc read error is normally an indication of a hard disk failure that requires replacement of the hard disk with a new one.
I recommend that you purchase a recovery usb media thumbdrive from HP to restore your PC's operating system to its former useful state when you replace the hard disk. You will need a desktop SATA hard disk of no larger than 2.2 Terabytes. The storage capacity of the original hard disk was 750 GB. That capacity is no longer that easy to find at stores or online websites.
You should have made a recovery disk set or usb recovery media four years ago when you setup the PC. The initial setup software for the PC did ask whoever first turned it on if they were ready to make a recovery disk set.

  • 32bit to win7-64bit MS-7032 K8M disc read error

    VIA VT8237 chipset (Rhine II)
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2GHz processor
    2GB RAM
PNY Verto GeForce 7600GS AGP Version 5.73.22.33.51 512MB RAM
I had XP-32 bit SP3 installed, very slow with sound and mouse skips.
I want to upgrade to Win 7 Pro-64 bit (purchased download with valid key).  DVD was burned using instructions with download, BIOS set to boot from CD/DVD.  Upon inserting DVD get the following:
"Searching for Boot Record from DC/DVD-0..OK
CDBOOT:  Cannot boot from CD - Code:  5
    NTLDR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
I re-burned the DVD multiple times, and "tech support" verified the DVD is valid.  Get the same error every time.  Do not see any option to boot from USB in advanced BIOS tab.
Finally decided to install Win 7-32 bit, then try to go to 64 bit from there.  Downloaded and started setup from .iso file extract.  Win 7-32 bit installed fine.  Win 7 32 bit that I'm running now was installed from within running XP 32, did not boot from DVD.
I still want to go to 64 bit.
At tech support advice, I created a bootable USB from Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool.  Copied the bootsect.exe file from 32 bit .iso to Win 7 DVD Tool location, coupled with 64 bit .iso file and ran the Tool; got "bootable USB successfully created".
Again no USB option listed in BIOS.  Restarted computer with USB drive installed, nothing happened, Windows booted as normal.
Burned new DVD with Win 7 DVD Tool, again 32 bit bootsect.exe and 64 bit .iso file, BIOS to boot from DVD first.  Tool indicated bootable DVD successfully created.  Could not boot from DVD again.  Tech support totally confused.  I did many internet searches, and found that some MSI and ASUS mobo's are having problems loading the boot record from Windows 7.  At least one page told me to update BIOS; software tech support also suggested this.
Then I joined this forum and searched all over for similar problems.  Found one thread that talked about USB Legacy and was told to turn that on.  Went home at lunch and turned on Legacy USB, went to BIOS still no USB boot option, but plugged in USB drive (with 32 bit bootsect and 64 bit iso successfully created from DVD/USB Tool, mentioned above), and restarted, hit F11 to see boot menu and Sandisk USB drive was recognized as a boot source.  I selected it and got the following:
"Searching for Boot Record from USB RMD-FDD..OK
    A disk read error occured
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
At this point it appears as though if I have a USB drive inserted when I boot the computer, and hit F11, the BIOS will recognize that the USB is a boot option.
Do I need to update BIOS to be able to run Win 7 x64?  Looking at the available BIOS on the MSI Global - Mainboard K8M-Neo-V website there's not even a 3.3 listed so not understanding where my BIOS came from.  I'm nervous about updating BIOS, as the page warns you, if your computer's running, don't update.
I'm having some difficulty understanding exactly how to do a BIOS update, and am worried that if I do something wrong, I'm screwed.  Do I have to update BIOS to 3.7 first, then to 7.0?  Do I do this with the USB utility they're saying to use, or the USB tool on this forum?
Do I just need to update drivers?  Can I do that with the MSI live update?  Or do I have to update BIOS to use live update?
Please help, any advice is appreciated.  I'll gladly find out whatever information about my system you need, and post it here.

  • My laptop has a disc read error.

Is there anyway to fix it easily, and will i have to take it somewhere to get it fix and i'll pay?

1Click "Start" or the Windows logo on your lap top. In the Start menu, click "Computer." You may also go to "My Computer" to access your drives.
2Right click the drive (C, E etc.) that has the disk error. A pop-up window will appear. Select "Properties."
3Click the "Tools" tab. Locate the "Error-checking" section and click the "Check Now" button. Click the check boxes for "Automatically Fix File System Errors" and "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors."
4Click "Start" or the Windows logo on your laptop. Allow Windows to diagnose and fix the disk errors. Windows will give you status-update messages during the process and report when it's completed the repairs.
You most restart your PC.It may take several hours to complete!

  • Disk read error screwed up my whole computer

I tried installing Windows XP and while it was installing, it encountered a disc read error. Now I can't do anything on my Macbook and it's all incredibly screwed up. Has anyone had any problem like this and can help me resolve my issues?

    Welcome to the Apple forums.
You need to supply more details other than "incredibly screwed up" in order to diagnose the problem.
Can you boot into Leopard by holding down the Option key on boot and selecting it?
Can you boot into the Leopard DVD?

  • Disk Read Error Woes

Hello there! Ive been having some issues with my SSD boot drive as of lately :(
From time to time, I receive a Disk Read Error when trying to boot into my computer...sometimes it happens after the computer crashes after working and then will not boot due to the Disk Read Error! However, the only time the computer will boot and bypass
the error is when when I open my case and unplug and reseat my boot drive, only then is the problem resolved for a day or two (sometimes weeks!) before the computer runs into the error or crashes and then runs into the error, to which it is fixed by a reseat.
The sata connection on the SSD seems to be solid (no wobbling or loose parts) so would the issue be the cable itself?

Hello everyone! After looking at everyone's suggestions on how to deal with this issue, I have done the following....I have..
    1. Replaced both the SATA Power Cable AND SATA Data Cable leading to the SSD, as well as connecting the SSD to another SATA port on the motherboard
    2. Used Chkdsk (with the "/r" parameter, as well as doing a few read-only checks to find anything) and the tests come back negative for any issues
    3. Used Memtest +86 to check for RAM issues, to make sure that is not the issue
    4. Used a HDD diagnostic tool (HD Tune) to further check for more issues, and everything is clear...
After doing all of the above, the computer ran fine without any Disc Read Errors for about a week before coming back yesterday, and just like before, the issue would go away as soon as I unplugged and replugged both the SATA Power and Data Cables :(
After the latest Disc Read Error, I have
    1. Updated my Motherboard's BIOS
    2. Connected the SATA power cable to a different port on my Modular PSU
and unfortunately, there is no firmware update available on my SSD, which is a KINGSTON SNV425S264GB, which is part of the discontinued Kingston SSDNow series...
So, after doing the BIOS Update and modular PSU port switch, the SSD is running fine for about a few hours now....with all of this said, would the issue be solved with the BIOS Update, or would it be safe to say this SSD is on the way out? :(

    Hi,
It would look like the Hard Drive is failing/failed, but try running the following test from the bios menu as it can provide a more meaningful error code.
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

I have pretty much the same problem -- I run three different types of Browsers (Firefox 3.6; Internet Explorer 6; Chrome) and I've found that they are all affected by this ... thing.
I suspect that there is some kind of war going on, or a very aggressive move by Yahoo onto the Browsers and Search Engine scene. With Yahoo trying to be an 800 lb (Pound weight) Gorilla - again, Yawn!
I this because I've recently installed an AntiVirus application (which is a really good one -- but, unfortunately for the AntiVirus maker they did not look closely enough at who they were getting into bed with -- The 800 Pound Gorilla, Yahoo.
This AntiVirus's installer had a default setting to make Yahoo Search my default search engine -- it was a tiny notice about this and I happened to look otherwise Yahoo would have installed openly onto my computer (and I don't want them. I've been using computers since before the Internet was publicly and generally available and I know only too well Yahoo's Huge Ego and Navel gazing behaviour.
Basically, Mozilla are on Yahoo's side, because -- in the minds of the anarchists of Mozilla -- Google had no right to make a Browser.
This is Mozilla getting its own back on Google and Google Chrome. Mozilla are culpable in this assault on our own property -- our own computers. By two organizations who are bitter at Google. Actually, they are jealous of Google because Google succeeded on the quality and purity of Google products and their terrific business sense and strategy.
Now, Mozilla and Yahoo have got in cahoots (and chumps like the supplier of my AntiVirus have been sucked into this) to "Do something about Google" as Mozilla proclaimed they would do (should they get the chance) some few years ago.
Now, I have in my computer: Yahoo software and a Mozilla Browser which are both acting truly as Malware. Now that AntiVirus company which loaded Yahoo software onto my computer can understand why I wrote to them pointing all this out (and they, a multi-million or billion pound organization missed what tiny little me could see) that they have helped Malware get onto my system -- now their up-to-that-moment very well thought of AntiVirus and organization ... Well, their name is now mud (but I shall not say their name here. Let them suffer their stupidity and shame, that should be enough for them. They are going to have a time of it cleaning this little ol' mess up.)

Having trouble burning discs, sometimes error 4280 comes up, anyone know?
sometimes it will say checking media, then it will do nothing!

Look around for more posts about this. There are TONS. I'm guessing you have upgraded to the newest Itunes. Which apparently makes you CD burning fail! Itunes needs to fix this problem but so far they haven't. I think there are little things that you can do to maybe fix it but I'm not sure so look around for other posts about this same kind of thing, anything along the lines of CD's not burning and error 4280. I wasted 5 CD's trying to get past this error thinking it was my CD's fault.

  • After update to Mavericks I can't open disc drive from keyboard

    Hello
After update to Mavericks I can't open disc drive from keyboard on my Mac Pro.
I found the only way to do this is via disk tools , there I can eject my disc drive - seems now to be the only way - should not be like this.
    Any idea , Please??

I used to use 2 keyboard keys - It now works with only 1.
So it works now , but different.
    Thank you.

  • Disk read error, and Disk Utility won't open

Have a PowerMac G4 dual 800mhz, with two hard drives. Mac OS X 10.3.9 is installed on HD1. I use HD2 for miscellaneous files.
Using the Azureus bittorrent client, I'm getting "Error: Disk read error - Input/output error, read fails" in the Status column when trying to download something to HD2.
However, I'm able to upload files from HD2 for other users, and I'm also able to play video files that are stored on HD2 without problem.
The real issue is that when I went to see if I could fix anything by opening Disk Utility, it won't open. It goes into an immediate state of Not Responding. It won't listen to me when I tell it to Force Quit... I have to wait a long time, or restart the computer, to get it to stop showing up in the dock.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

To repair a startup volume you must do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Video File Read Error

    Dear DVDSP Brains,
I am using DVDSP3 and have created a DVD with several menus. Whenever I try and build it the log gives me the following error message:
Compiling VTS#2 (MM to Film Menu Trans)...
    Writing VTS020.VOB

    Video File Read Error

    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
The clip it seems to have a problem with "Film Menu to MM Trans, Clip 3..." is - I think - a still that has been added to the end of a transition movie between menus. I added the still to allow a dissolve to occur into the next menu and its buttons. I'm not sure if my diagnosis is correct.
I have seached the forum and attempted to implement some of the advice given that might be relevant.
I have tried to re-encode the Film Menu to MM Trans.
    I trashed preferences.
I deleted the PAR files (which oddly has now caused he disc to have 5.7GB where it only had 3.2 GB before !!!)
I am at a loss and trying not to panic.
Your help would be much appreciated!
    Detsky

I deleted the PAR directories in both the directory where the DVDSP document exists, and in my user directory (~mr88cet/Movies/Gary's Live DVD2 Build). I also tried deleting that whole directory. None of those deletions helped.
I exported the first video fragment in that track. That also didn't help.
Not surprisingly, doing a "build" only didn't help.
Could you tell me more about how this could clarify a problem with importing one of my clips?

  • Frequent Panic NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100

I've sent my MBP i7 mid-2010 for repair with the following frequent and intermittent kernel panic to no avail: panic(cpu 2 caller 0x9cdc8f): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: ... to no avail.
I happen to have subscribed to AppleCare for this machine but this did not make any difference. The approved repair center I dealt with just reformatted the HD per Apple's support instructions (twice !) and were unable to reproduce the panic. I called the Apple support folks in Ireland directly with the incident # and got told that there was basically nothing wrong with my machine and that this was bound to be caused by non-Apple software (mind you, the support guy I talked to didn't even know that XCode was an Apple product - sic). I however believe this is very likely due to a faulty NVidia video card on the logic board.
Has this happened to someone else? How did you get resolution? Right now I am stuck with an unreliable machine and seem unable to get it fixed. Any help would be VERY appreciated.
    Thank you,
    François

What is disc mode error message mean?

A few years down the road, but I have a thought.  I nornally use an external burner since it is faster and frankly more reliable.  Today, I was doing a quick job so I started burning cds with IDENTICAL files for 7 clients.  First 5 urned without error.  Started #6 and 0x80020022 error code appeared.  The cds were formatted for music, as most are these days.  I switched to a cheaper unformatted cd and low and behold...no error.  Two more clean burns.  Might it be that the software reads the files ... and limits the copies to the number of legit copies allowed by iTunes.  I know that sound bizarre, but when all other reasonable explanations fail, I suggest the unreasonable one as an option.
Anyway, the text, pdf, and jpg files are all burned, but the opening file names were the same; only one picture changed with each cd and that was not the first file on the list.  Code writers sometimes go for the elegant (read shortest) code solution.  So forget speed.  How many copies are you making and are the file names (especially the first ones) identical.

  • Unable to burn disc, unknown error (-3)

Client has a Lenovo netbook with an External DVD/CD Burner. With current iTunes Win7 x64 release as of writing.
Whenever she burns a disc it preps the image and when it gets to burning, it pops the disc out and Messages me...
Unable to burn disc, unknown error (-3)
I've checked around and never seen this error code pop up at all on any suppport forums, any ideas I'm willing to try out.

So I got this error for a new playlist that I was attempting to burn. I noticed that it would fail when it reached a specific song in the preparing disc process. Nothing special about this song from what I can tell. I purchased it through iTunes along with the entire album. Once I removed that song from the playlist, it burns with no hangups.
Going to delete that song from the library and reload it from the cloud. Will report back if that helped.
