I have also tried TDK, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony media
Me too. Out of that list the only brand that has NEVER produced a coaster (on the same burner as yours) is Verbatim DVD-R and Fuji DVD-R. All the others produced a 25-50% failure rate.
Have you tried burning at a slower speed?
Using 16x DVD media is fine - in fact it is difficult to buy any other - but there is a consensus in the Apple Support Forums that a slower burn is a better burn i.e. 2x or 4x (slow burns are better burns!). I always use Toast for burning.
The term "Best" means the fastest speed that the drive told Toast it can write to a specific disc. The drive's firmware and info on the disc decide what speed burns are available. When you press the speed setting button in Toast (after inserting a disc) you'll likely see some speeds in italics and some in bold face. The ones in bold face are supported by that media on that drive. The fastest one is what Toast calls Best.
Audio CDs in particular should be burned at the lowest supported speed.
Verification is a good indicator the disc is burned okay. However, other DVD players can still have problems with the disc. Media problems with various drives is not uncommon. Slower burning may reduce the chance of those problems, and is one of the reasons why RW (read/write) media is always rated slower than DVD-R.
There are some interesting facts here:
http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm and here:
http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm
But many will tell you that the 'slower burn is best' theory is outdated. Who really knows? At the end of the day, if your home-made DVD was verified by Toast and will play anywhere on anybody's DVD player, then that is the result we are all after!

iDVD won't burn to my DVD player for some reason. So, I made a disk image, and am trying to now use disc utility to burn that.
I am getting the following error. I am using Apple branded DVD-Rs (yes, I still have some, bought a large amount of them in 2007). I have also tried TDK, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony media. I have cleaned the lens in my DVD player. The DVD mechanism plays movies just fine, and mounts disks bought commercially as movies, and burned on my PC.
I can burn to CD-R, but not to DVD-R. I can burn to CD out of itunes, but I can't burn to DVD out of iDVD, or with disk utility.

    Hi mdfrancois;
The lasers used in optical drives gradually lose power. Some more rapidly then others. If the output is too low then the optical drive would be classified as marginal.

  • DISC RECORDER NOT FOUND...?

i can't burn cd's from my itunes to a disc. when logging on to itunes a WARNING box appears: THE REGISRTY SETTINGS BY ITUNES DRIVERS FOR IMPORTING AND BURNING CD'S & DVD'S ARE MISSING. THIS CAN HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF INSTALLING OTHER CD BURNING SOFTWARE. PLEASE REINSTALL ITUNES. i have reinstalled the soft ware numerous times and still I get the same messages. I think my ipod is shot completly now. It does not turn on any more. oh.. and what caused all this to happen was my ipod some times would not show up in my itunes. If anyone can help it would be great. thanks

if you'd prefer to try some quicker and dirtier techniques, you could try:
    reboot and repair
reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and select "repair".
... if no joy with that:
reinstall the itunes drivers for importing and burning
you can find them at the following page. if you're on a 32-bit system, use the first link on the page:

    Using

    Total
    ACCOUNT =880075
    3) if data exists in all above 3 data intersection ,  then there would be one record to write back, that would be posted to where section.
    ACCOUNT =880073
    Hope this helps.

  • APP-QA-16161: Cant find the Transaction Block

When I click on Create Service Request or View Service Request form I get message
APP-QA-16161: Cant find the Transaction Block
The error is coming from the pre-form trigger of the CSXSRISR.fmb.
We have copied the .fmx of this file and all associated files from other instnaces, but still the issue is present.
Also, the issue is not present when we enable FRD trace.
Anyone has any suggestions on the same?

    Hi,
Please verify that you have no invalid objects in the database -- See (Note: 308927.1 - APP-QA-16161 - Can't find transaction block. Please inform system administrator).
If the above does not help, see (Bug 7253526 - RCVTXERT: APP-QA-16161 CAN'T FIND TRANSACTION BLOCK), I believe you would need to log a SR as the solution is not mentioned.

  • Itunes failed to install properly / disc recording not found

Bought my daughter a new notebook (hp pavillion dv9000 w/ windows vista)& every time I install itunes the error message that it was "not installed correctly & may not import from cd's be able to burn cd's" appears. I've uninstalled itunes & quicktime and then reinstalled several times only to have the same error. All updates are done. Itunes will recognize a cd in the drive and import, but when attemting to burn to cd it displays "disc recording not found". Couldn't find anything on the support page. Any one care to offer any help for a frustrated father?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP,head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

I got an error message while burning a CD in iTunes - "the attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The disk you are using probably has a defect, not uncommon on consumer grade disks. Try another disk or better yet another disk from a different manufacturer or at least a different batch.

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • The Attempt to burn disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error.

When trying to burn a CD, I'm getting an error that reads:The Attempt to burn disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error.  I experienced this message before and took my Macbook in to the store and the the genius was stumped but when he tried one of his CD's it burned fine to he concluded that the problem was in the CD's NOT the Macbook or program  HOWEVER, months later, I'm having the same issue using the NEW CD's.  Does anyone have any information about this?

    3 methods to fix this:
The first is to reset pram
at boot up hold four keys down till you hear 3 chimes:
    command(apple)=option+p+r
release keys and it will now reboot.
The second is to reset nvram
at boot up hold four keys down:
    command(apple)+option+o+f
    a black screen will appear
    now type: reset-nvram
    click enter
    now type: reset-all
    click enter
    it will now reboot
The third is to open system preferences.
    go to international
under languages: drag any of the other languages to the top, then drag english back to the top.
make sure "order for sorted lists" is set to english
make sure "word break" is set to english(united states, computer)
    then restart.
I hope this helps you as it certainly did me. :^)
