    Hi
I have a disc stuck in my drive. When I eject its stats to come out, sounds like it gets wedged, then goes back in again. Is this as serious as I fear and is there an easy way to get the disc out without resorting to striping out the drive.
    Many Thanks

  • How do I eject a disc stuck in my drive?

How do I eject a disc stuck in my disc drive?  I have tried all the normal eject methods.

    Hello stewmail,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the disk that will not eject.  I recommend the following steps:
If you can’t eject a CD or DVD
Choose Apple menu > Log Out, and then log in again. Try to eject the disc again.
If you still can’t eject the CD or DVD, choose Apple menu > Restart. While your computer restarts, hold down the mouse button or trackpad button until the disc is ejected.
You can find the full article here (the article title refers to Mountain Lion, but these steps will work for Mavericks too):

  • Help! Disc Stuck in iMac!

I have a iMac blueberry 333mhz, and a CD is stuck in the slot. I've read through this area and have tried the following but with no success:
1.Restart with Mouse button held down
2.Open firmware and type in eject CD
The drive makes a whirring sound as if it is trying to eject the disc, but it doesn't come out. Is there a hole that I can put a paperclip in to eject the disc?
Are there other ways to get the disc out?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Kathy
Apple tells you to put RAM in through the little door - that's why it's there.
Just open the door, held the RAM carefully (without touching the gold strips) and press it into the slot untill the 2 tabs click in at either end. Then try and pull it out. If it doesn't come out it's in and seated properly. Takes about 30 seconds.
The other reeason for the door is to fit an airport card and card adaptor.
It's only the battery where you are told to open the computer up. Although there are quite a few on the list who say that it can be done through the door, it's very easy to break the battery holder getting the old battery out if it is reluctant to come out.
If you check the help files for upgrading your mac it should show you how to add more memory.

  • Installation disc stuck in new drive while trying to install OS!? Help!

    Hello.
My hard drive crashed a month ago on my 13 inch Macbook. I ordered a new hard drive and put it into my Macbook.
After putting in new hardware I wanted to put the original OS back on my computer (Leopard v10.5). I put the install disc in my computer and it boots normally and goes through all the prompts during the installtion of the OS and then on the final screen it prompts me to put installation disc 2.
I go to eject the disc from my computer to finish installing this OS and the disc wont eject!
I need to finish installing the OS on the new hard drive in order to restore normal function of the applications and everything else.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • Hi. Having trouble getting the superdrive on my daughters circa 2009 mac mini to eject discs.  Even the 'hold down mouse button on restart' trick isn't working now and there's a disc stuck in the drive. Anyone out there with a fix? Here's hoping :-)

It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a DVD or a CD it just won't eject :-(

Is there a very small pin hole, just inside the drive opening on the right? If true, you can very gently press the tip of a paperclip into this hole (with the machine on) to eject the disk.
With the mini off. Turn it upside down and thunk the bottom with your hand a couple of times. This may dislodge that stuck drive sufficiently to allow normal eject.
It may be possible to (again gently) pry up on an edge of that stuck disc with an old, unused credit card.
If you made it this far, better make an appointment with an Apple store to have the drive removed, disassembled, and reinstalled. If you go this route, might as well upgrade the memory too if it needs it.

  • Disc stuck in optical drive.

My problem is pretty lame. A friend of mine gave me this mini-cd-thingy asking me to check the content of it on my macbook, but once I inserted it I realized that it probably is too small to even be noticed by my optical drive, and so it was, and so it's stuck inside there now.
How on earth am I going to get it out? I tried ejecting, poking and shaking it out, but nothing works. Gezez, how stupid.

This is why your user manual says not to insert any nonstandard-sized discs into the drive.
You might have some success by inserting a thin, flexible plastic card or postcard-weight piece of paper into the drive slot and using it to try to guide the disc to the slot while someone else holds the machine up on edge for you. If not, then having a technician remove the drive, take the cover off it and extract the disc is going to be all you can do. Your warranty won't cover that, nor any damage you or the disc may have done to the drive by then.
Note: It's probably not a good idea to use the machine while the disc remains inside, since starting up, waking, and perhaps other actions cause the drive to spin up and move mechanical parts around. If the disc gets wedged in the wrong place and that happens, you could have worse problems.

  • Blockbuster disc stuck in disk drive. Oh my!

Glad it's the end of late fee's. But really, I would like to get this disc out of my PowerBook 1.67ghz G4. The power is on but it seems like the keyboard is not responding. No lights or anything. The display is not working either. I even got a wierd sound that went on for about five seconds and the light on the button to open the laptop flickered on & off for about that same time. I hear the disc spinning at start up and then it goes silent after it spins down. I tried all the usual means of getting the disc out, F-12, zapping the p-ram, holding down the track pad button upon restart, & resetting the power... did I miss any? Please help. Aloha!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    EarlGrey,
I've just sent a new 1.67GHz 15" PowerBook back from whence it came, after having a similar problem!
The problem started with the mouse freezing after a period, then upon restart I had the black screen problem. I stuck the boot system DVD in to boot from that, but no luck. I then had a new PowerBook with a DVD stuck in it and no display, or anything, apart from a few whirry noises, for a weekend!
The only way I could get it out was by [fluke] leaving the machine switched off overnight, then firing it up holding down the trackpad button. If your machine is continuing on this trend I'd suggest it may be on its way out too. Mine got progressively worse over last weekend and is now in Apple hospital somewhere!
I couldn't even boot into single user mode, which is bad according to the boffins on here.
    Hope this helps
    Steve.
PS I also tried all the options you mentioned before a nights rest sorted it.

  • 2 discs stuck in my drive!

Hey guys, I hope you can help me or advise me :-S
My younger bro asked if he could watch a DVD on my macbook so of course I told him if he broke it I would saw his legs off. He apparently pressed eject and nothing happened so he assumed there were no discs in there and proceeded to force a DVD into the combo drive, however there was still a CD in there...
Neither disc will eject. I haven't sawed his legs off yet.
    Help!!!!!!!

    Hi Charlie T,
Start sharpening the saw blade for your brother,..lol no just kidding.
Try to restart and press track pad button to force the disk out.
Press Eject, F12, or hold the mouse (/trackpad) button Ejects any removable media, such as an optical disc.
    This might be still relevant:

If you think it might make it worse, then bring that to apple store and let the expert do the job.
    Good Luck.

  • Mac mini dead, system disc stuck in optical drive

    My mini has died:
less than two years old, light comes on but there's no chime and no sound of the optical drive engaging or self-testing or whatever it is usually doing at boot-up.
I have tried everything I know of:
    • re-setting PMU
    • re-seating the ram
    • replacing the hard drive
    • using a different mini power supply
    • swearing at it
If I remove the ram and power on it hoots so it can at least tell if ram is present....
At first it chimed/light on but (intermittently) nothing more would happen - no sound from optical drive. When it did boot (1 in 3 attempts approximately) it would run without any malfunctions and diagnosis software couldn't find anything wrong.
Progressively less successful start-ups, then start-ups without chime, now nothing.
The techies I have spoken to all say "logic" board is "highly illogical".
Last time it started I put in the OS Install/Hardware Test dvd to run the next time it would boot but its dead now.
Is there any way to manually eject a disc like with the paperclip hole in the larger style of drive?
I have the mini's case removed but I can't see one...
I'm very disappointed, all my previous macs have kept working for five years or more!

I've been using macs for more than 16 years, I've taken many apart to replace RAM, processors, PCI cards and hard disks. I'd like to think I know what I'm doing...
The problems predate my opening the mini up.
Today it booted up long enough to run the Hardware Test!
    (still no chime)
    No problems found!!
It restarted again, enabling me to install the OS on the re-formatted hard disk!!!
After that, I restarted (no option to eject the DVD disc) and it's dead again!!!!
Here in Australia I think "service" just means replacing the motherboard, which is more than the thing is worth...

  • Two discs stuck in super drive.  Any suggestions on how to remove them.  Eject does not work

Over active 3 year old put two discs into our 13" Mid 2009 MacBook.  Hitting the eject key does nothing.  Any ideas?

Take it to an Apple retail store or AASP for professional repair.

  • Disc stuck in cd drive

I didn't know the small dvds I use for my camcorder wouldn't work in the cd drive and foolishly tried to insert one in. What was I thinking....? Now of course I can't get it out. The closest Apple store is two hours away, but is that my only option for having it removed and checked for damage?
    thanks.

    Unfortunately, probably so.
Until then, you can try what I have to do from time to time to get a full size DVD/CD "unstuck" from the drive:
Hold your MBP upside down (screen open), and press the eject key. Simply tilting the MBP works for some.
If you can manage to get the small CD to come to the front of the drive, you could try removing it with tweezers.
Good luck- please let us know your success (we have faith in you!)

  • CD Stuck in iMac Disc Drive, Mechanical Problem

I, surprisingly, could not find a good solution for this on Google because of the vast number of people with software-related disc jams and bad tutorials.
I put a Windows 2000 recovery disc in my Mac so I could test to see if I could make a disk image from it and mount it as a real CD...anyway, I should have known that the HP-made disc would get stuck in my drive. It felt kind of strange as if it was the wrong thickness.
Now, I cannot eject it nor can I see the disc trying to be ejected due to the flaps on the drive blocking it. I tried feeling around with a credit card, but there was a metal bar blocking the disc. If I try to eject it, it keeps trying over and over again but can never eject it.
I'm looking for a hardware-related way to get this out. I know about the "click on bootup" and "force eject" methods, but those will not work.

I can't recall exactly what I did to make the credit card work that first time. About 1/3 the way from the edge of the slot (top of the slot on my iMac), you can feel some mechanism that's closed normally. When you go to eject the disc you can feel that mechanism open and you can hold it open using the card. I recall it took a lot of fiddling to get the thing to pop out, so I can't say exactly what I did. You can try to use the card to sort of coax the disc out or push it up or down, depending on which way it's having trouble ejecting...
Sometimes you can see the disc poke out a little only to do back in. In those times I've thought about getting a pair of tweezers to grab it, but usually didn't end up having to. Could be a two-person job.
If nothing works, before taking it to a shop I'd try opening the bezel. I don't know how or why but that really did the trick for me last time I went through this.
