Disc Utility and Images for an iMovie project.

I am trying to make an image from an iMovie project so I can burn later to a DVD. When in Disc Utility ( DU ) I go to File - Disc Image From Folder, then I find the folder I created that contains my iMovie project. I click on that folder and it opens up showing my iMovie icon - the one with star on it- in another window, but the Star Icon is greyed out. Anyway, I proceeded making a disc image and read over my options, I choose just " read " and I also choose for a " CD/DVD Master " All proceeded and finished and the image was made. Then I burned that image using Disc Utility and ejected the DVD. When I re-inserted the DVD to try on DVD Player in mounted on the desktop and it was called " Movie Folder " (which was the folder I previously had named earlier) the DVD Player gave me the "stop symbol" and it said " Supported Disc Not Available " Should I have chosen a different option then CD/DVD master or is it because the iMovie Star icon was greyed out and not highlighted as the Folder itself was ? Hope this makes sense ! Eric

iDVD is not allowing me to burn a copy, whether I
export, drag and drop, whatever.
Have you tried setting iDVD to make a disk image file, instead of burning a DVD directly?
The iMovie goes in
fine to iDVD and then I burn ( try ) it almost
completes the process and the Blue Bar is full and
the Burn Wheel stops turning, then any movement of
the cursor after that point cause the Spinning Ball
and have to Force Quit. This happens whether I use
a iPhoto Slideshow or a iMovie project all 06.
Ive trashed the com.appleiDVD.plist thing and ran
Disc Utility and Re-Booted, but still the same
result.
How long are you waiting? iDVD is slow and may take several hours.
As far as the Disc Image, whats up there, are you
telling me I can only make a disc image in iDVD and
not iMovie? I just can't get a Finished project
onto a piece of Plastic not matter what I try ???
You can burn the output files created by iMovie but they won't play in a DVD player or with the DVD Player application. QuickTime Player should play them. DVD Player will only play a movie, from the hard drive or a DVD, after it has been processed into DVD format.

(this might well be moved to a new topic)
I had three certificates in an old keychain on my 11inch mid 2011 MBA, no idea what they were or what they were for but one had expired (it was dated 20 June 2012 - when I bought my machine - so had probably expired in a year), one was valid and one was not trusted. Maybe a bit of a silly question to ask given I don't know what they were for but would they have been critical to running my machine? (it's working fine right now so probably not)

My previous response will check for software filesystem/directory errors on our HDD. In re-reading your post, you may have a hardware issue. If you are able, boot from the Apple Hardware Test disk that came with your computer, and run the extended tests in a loop by holding down Ctrl + L during the tests. Let it run for a while, several hours if necessary.

Try double tapping the movie clip itself when inserted in the timeline and ensure that sound is on on the actual clip on the movie time line.

You've encrypted the boot volume with FileVault, so the reading in your first screenshot is normal. The reading in your last screenshot shows that you have plenty of disk space.

I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.
I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
    All help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

  • Disk Utility - Scan Image for Restore - Freeze

I backed up my wife's iBook by starting her computer in target disk to my iBook which has a huge external attached. After about an hour, the image process was complete. Apple disk utility help says next to scan image for restore (not too sure why because I'm not restoring anything unless her drive dies). I begin the scan image for restore and get the progress bar that never shows and progress. Just keeps spinning/scanning for hours and I have no option to shut if off. Can't move external to trash because it in use, etc.
Does this mean the original disk image may be bad? Do over?
I'm using Disk Image as a solution for a total disk backup if a drive fails. No messing around with reconfiguring apps, etc. (i.e. plug and play) Is this the best way to do this?
I come from the Mac Plus days. Hopefully I can contribute to the new OS discussions at some point. Thank you much!

What format is the external drive?
    Is it Firewire or USB?
Does the external drive have one of those front button touch things, like a My Book?

  • Synchronizing sound and image for splash screen.

    Hello all,
    I have a peculiar request. ...
I have a sound file (about 137KB) and an animated gif (about 134KB).
I would like to use this as my splash window before my app starts up.
I know how to load these 2 to a screen but my problem is how do I synchronize the sound to go along with the image when it starts up? (Its a gunshot sound, whcih is looped with the animated image showing the bullet holes ;-)
I've been investigating using the Timer class but no success to date.
Currently, the sound file loads up, starts and then a few seconds later the image..
    So.... How do I:
    1. Load the sound first.
    2. Load the image.
    3. Start both of them synchronized.

    This is actually pretty involved...
Are you using java.applet.AudioClip to play the sound? Are you loading the animated gif as a JLabel or something using ImageIcon?
If you are using AudioClip for the audio, I suggest that you cache the sound and image before playing the sound... otherwise you'll probably hear pops or the sound will pause. To cache the sound, do this:
    AudioClip clip = Applet.newAudioClip("somefile");
Unfortunately, java really sucks at handling animated gifs. On slower computers, I've seen it take about 15-20 seconds to load an animated gif that's around 90k in size... totally unacceptable! If you have a gif that just plays a once (or a few times) and then stops, you'll have to flush the graphic to restart the image. This will reload the file and cause the long delay every time you need to replay the gif.
It seems like the best thing to do is to break up the animated gif into frames (either put each frame in its own file, or place each frame into one large image file and use clip rectangles to retrieve frames) and handle the animation yourself with your own thread. Alternatively, you can use the GifDecoder utility available at http://www.fmsware.com/stuff/gif.html, but be careful when using GifDecoder, it eats up a lot of memory for larger Gif files. When you handle the animation yourself, things should work properly. Again, make sure to cache the images by doing something like:
    ImageIcon ii = new ImageIcon("somefile");
Once everything is preloaded, things should be pretty much synchronized if you play the sound and then show the image.
To have more control, you may have to use an object with synchronized methods... like if you want a sound to play on the 3rd and 10th frame of animation. Another option is to use Quicktime for Java.
If you need more info, let me know!

  • How to reverse the order of a bunch of still images in an iMovie Project

    Hello,
I'm making a stop motion animation using iMovie'09. I need to reverse the order of a few hundred of the images that I imported.
Does anybody know a good and time efficient way of doing this?
    Cheers,
    Onur.

Ok, here's how have I done:
    1. Removed those images from the movie project
    2. Created a new project and added all the images which I want to reverse the order of
    3. Set the durations of the images as same as those in my first project
    4. Exported the project as a movie file
    5. Added this short movie file to the first project
    6. From clip adjustments menu, checked 'reverse'.
There, the subset of the whole collection is displayed in the reverse order.

  • Best method for keeping iMovie projects long term?

I read through 30 pages of posts as I think this is a pretty basic question, but didn't see it directly addressed, so please forgive me...
Some of my movies are mammoth in size (as much as 30GB for 1 movie), which I've learned are due to iMovie handing onto full clip size even when only 10 seconds of it makes it into the final film...
I am starting to move the movies off the iMac onto an external HD, but don't know what is the most economical way to keep a copy digitally without sacrificing a lot of quality? Full Quality QT? as iDVD project instead of iMovie project?
Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks to all.

    Hello Toddieu,
I am sure that there are better ways to store your projects, but I have struggled with the exact same question that you have and here are my solutions. I like iMovie 6, but I hate the "non-destructive" editing which makes your projects huge. So, this may seem strange, but I start my movies in iMovie 4. I import all of my raw footage and then do the first round of crude editing which, as you mention, sometimes reduces a 5 minute clip, down to a couple of 10 or 20 second clips. By the time I am done with this process, I usually reduce an hour's worth of "raw" footage down to around 30 to 40 minutes worth of "good stuff". Then I close iMovie 4, copy the movie file (just to be safe), and then open the copy using iMovie 6. When you do this, iMovie 6 will tell you that this movie will be permanently changed to the new format, which is what you want, so click OK. If the movie opens correctly, and everything looks good, then I continue editing the rest of my movie using iMovie 6 (fine cuts, transitions, titles, music, effects, chapters, etc). In the end, using this technique, an hour's worth of edited video uses about 12 gbs of HardDrive. I have several external HDs and I store all of my finished movies on these externals as iMovies (full quality). You don't want to save as DVD projects, because these are compressed files so you will lose some quality.
Like I said, I am sure there are easier ways to do this, and I am interested to hear what other's are doing, but this works for me.

  • Converting camcorder footage to DVD for future iMovie projects

I have alot of older video footage on High 8 Tapes and Digital 8 tapes that I want to import and save the raw uneditted footage to a DVD, so I don't use up my hard drive space, but also be easily imported into iMovie at a later date.
I used iDVD's One Step on one of my tapes but found that when I put that DVD in my MAC to import the footage into iMovie it wasn't compatible and I would have to go through the time and hassel to convert that video footage.
The other way I tried was to import the taped footage into iMovie and then select all the clips and drag them into a project but that causes iMovie to error out and telling me to only add your best clips into your project. So going that route you have to select small clips at a time and that takes alot of time.
I guess to summarize my frustration, I want to find the easiest way to save this raw tape footage into a digital format that can then be imported into iMovie with out having to convert it or do a bunch of additional steps? Is there a way or a program I should invest in to help me with this issue.
    Thanks

I guess to summarize my frustration, I want to find the easiest way to save this raw tape footage into a digital format that can then be imported into iMovie with out having to convert it or do a bunch of additional steps?
The simplest method is to divid your source files in segments which can then be burned to DVD as data. The size of these segments will depend on the size of the DVDs to which you plan to burn the material.
For instance if you captured your clips as DV with a total data rate on the order of 28.8 Mbps and are recording to a dual-layer DVD, then you may be able to store about 36-37 minutes of content per disk. A worst case scenario of DVCPRO50 with a combined data rate on the order of 57-58 Mbps to a single-layer disk would probably be as little as 9 minutes of content.
Is there a way or a program I should invest in to help me with this issue.
Applications like MPEG Streamclip (free) or QT Pro ($30) would allow you to segment your raw files as needed. Then your system software would be able to burn the segments to DVD as needed. (The specific work flow depends on what OS you are using.)
I used iDVD's One Step on one of my tapes but found that when I put that DVD in my MAC to import the footage into iMovie it wasn't compatible
This work flow creates MPEG2/PCM content for playback on commercial DVD players. All you want to do is store the already edit compatible file content as "data" to your DVDs. This raw data can then be copied back to your hard drive/imported to iMovie '08 as often as needed for editing whenever you wish.

  • IMac Disc Utility and Boot Camp Error

So my friend just got a new 24" Intel iMac a few weeks ago and it had a bad super drive and memory, so he had to get it replaced. Bad start for a pc switcher. =P But the new one worked out ok. After a few days of going fine he randomly had a Gray screen pop up and he explained to me he fixed the problem by reinstalling macosx but keeping all his info (I did not see him do this) Since then, it's been going perfect he says without any hiccups. Jump forward 2 weeks later, today, I went over to his house to help set up boot camp for him. I started the assistant and attempting to split the HD to give Windows 50gb. It gave me an error saying there is something wrong with the startup disk check out disk utility to fix it. So naturally, I opened Disk Utility and ran a scan and it came up with this EXACT error-
    Verifying volume “My Computer”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume The volume uter needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
So I already had some reading done about how to repair this kind of thing previously so I placed the install DVD in and reboot holding "C". I then ran disk utility from there checking the HD once again and it came up the same exact error so I told it to repair and it gave me a message saying it repaired whatever issues it had. Assuming everything was okay I reboot and tried boot camp once again. Which it then gave the same error as before that stopped the HD from successfully splitting. So I reran the disk utility and it gave me the exact error I posted above, nothing changed. But the catch is, nothing else seems wrong. Programs run fine and things seem to be going smoothly in his every day use of the computer. Only thing he noticed a few times was when on boot up it just stays at the white screen instead of loading the startup disk (which is easily solved by just holding option) But he made it sound like this only happened a couple times. I noticed a few "fake error messages" that Apple mentions in their support files but I am not familiar enough to know what is what and if it's a fake message why doesn't boot camp work? Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi
If running Disk Utility from the install disk gave you & your friend the same error & could not fix it, then your friend will need either DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro to solve it.

  • Embedding fonts and images for printing (press quality PDF)

I have a question about a document I have produced in InDesign that needs to go to the printers. They have told me to make sure it is a print ready document with all of the fonts and images embedded. When I convert an indd document for printing 'locally', I normally just use the Adobe PDF presets and select press quality. I thought ID works its magic and does everything required to make it print ready. Is there anything else I need to do regarding fonts and images to make the PDF ready for print?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Thank you.
As to bleeds, the printers came back and said my pdf is okay but that yes, I need to set an extra bleed edge of minimum 3mm. Do I set this when converting to the print quality pdf or do I set this whilst working in the actual INDD document itself?
Is the bleed then on every page regardless of the content?
What are the steps for setting bleed and crop marks. Does that mean when I place an image for example on a page the image needs to hang slightly off the edges by 3mm or am I barking up the wrong tree?
