Disc won't play -  format wrong

Hi
I'm trying to play DVDs on my MacBook Pro however the disk doesn't play it doesn't even mount.
When I check Disk Utility it shows the format as Windows NTFS 3G.
If I try the same disk on another macbook it shows as Universal Disk Format and plays fine.  How do I fix this??

What could this be?
It could be one of several things (or a combination thereof). A dirty lens on the set top dvd player for example. When is the last time you used a quality Maxell or 3M dvd lens cleaner kit? Avoid cheapy kits since they can cause more issues than they resolve.
It could be the media itself.
It could be that you need to lower the burn speed to make the media more readable to this particular set top DVD Player.
It could be that your set top player is a bit dated and refuses to play newer media/s.
Best to take your finished iDvd to a store that sells these DVD Players and try it out on several machines. See if it still happens on other players as well.
Btw, please tell me you are not using Memorex or TDK. I recommend Verbatim or Maxell (your choice) while troubleshooting on this iDvd Forum.

  • DVD SP burned disc won't play on DVD player

I recently compiled a FCP HD project into Standard Defintion 16:9 and imported it into DVD SP 4. I build, format and burned a DVD-R disc without any problems. However the disc won't play on any of the DVD players in my house (1 philips and 1 Pioneer). I checked all settings and can't find anything wrong! Remarkably, just before this I burned an older (SD 4:3) project on the same brand/type disc and that one worked flawless.
What am I missing, pleas help!
    Evert

Double check to make sure you did not make an HD DVD (take a look to see what is on the disc, are the folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS or other name? It can happen where you think you made an SD but it is HD ) Also did you set a first play? Did you somehow make an NTSC (or PAL) and playing it on a machine that is not NTSC/PAL as applicable?
What brand media did you use? Some brands can be inconsistent...

  • DVDSP discs won't play

I'm using a G4 at work with Final Cut Studio 1. I know it's out of date, but money is a factor. So, I'm trying to work with what we've got...
I've exported all my files from Final Cut Pro HD v.4.5 and authored a DVD using DVDSP v.3.0.2. I've been doing this for months without running into a problem this large. I burned the final DVD without seeing any error messages in the build tab (aside from: Warning: The file ‘SATURDAY_OPENING.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS folder will not be included in the final disc... which I understand shouldn't be on the disc anyway). So when I put it into two different DVD players and two computers, the disc won't play. When I pop it into the G4, the main menu DOES come up. However, the "Play All" button flashes profusely and if you click on either the Play All button or the Chapter Selection Button, the menus fades back and forth between themselves until it freezes. It's like it can't tell what it's supposed to be doing. I've checked all my setting and preferences and I can't find anything that would force it to do anything like this.
    Am I missing something?

Did you set any buttons to be auto-activated? Have you set a time out value on any of the buttons in the property inspector? These are probably the two most likely causes of flashing buttons and so on.
Check through your settings and make sure that you haven't inadvertently set anything like these in place.

  • IDVD burned discs won't play on any dvd player

When I burn a dvd using Idvd they will not play on standard dvd players.
Is this a problem with anyone else?
I noticed it was a problem in the early 2000-2003 but apparently something got fixed, because I couldn't find an incident where this problem continued to occur.
I am new to the Mac world and I don't always understand the acronymns used when I read responses.  However, here is my problem.
    Burning dvd's using Idvd:
    1.  the burn seems to run and function normally
    2. when I insert the burned dvd into a dvd player one of the following things occur:
         a) loading takes a very long time, then I get a message saying "wrong disc"
          b) loading occurs fast, reads the file as a dvd, the dvd begins playing the music and showing the main menu screen, after accessing a menu option the dvd begins to play the slideshow with the music then after a minute or two, it freezes, and is no longer readable when attempting to reload it, the message is "wrong disc"
    3.  I've tried using dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd+r dual layer, and changing the burn speed to 8x, then to 4x and then to 2x.  Nothing seems to matter.
    4.  I have noticed that in Idvd the dvd type is for an older version of dvd's such as single layer 4.2 gb and double layer 7.7 gb. I'm wondering whether the Idvd software on my MacMini is up to date, even though when I check for updates under the apple it comes back saying my system is up to date.
    I'm using a MacMini running Mac OSX v 10.6.8 with processor 2.26ghz, Intel core 2 duo, memory 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3, and my dvd drive is a pioneer dvd-rw dvrts08, firmware q81f.
I really need help to fix the problem with the IDVD software or to know that I need to purchase another DVD maker software for my Mac.  The product below says my Mac is running OS X v 10.7.2 but it isn't it is running v 10.6.8 as I stated.
    URGENT!!!!

My macmini is under 2 years old.  I reviewed your list of affects and I am going down the list to determine possible cause and effect.
I did try the PRAM process.  The DVD still won't play on my DVD player but it did play on my son's Sony blue ray.  I burned it at 2x burn rate after the PRAM process completed.
I can assume that's progress.  The audio did however skip a couple of times while playing.  That is new.
I will continue down the list using different type of blank dvd's etc.
Question: As I was reading through some other issues I'm learning that Mac/Apple is discontinuing IDVD, is that correct?
Are you aware of some other software to purchase that will create dvd's on the mac?  If so, I may as well go that route rather than wasting more time using a defunct product.  What is your opinion?

  • Burned disc won't play in CD Player

    Help Please!
I burned a disc in iTunes.
    The disc will play in the computer;
but it won't play in the CD player in
the car or the home stereo.
I suspect it is a file extension issue,
but I don't know how to check or change
    anything.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes Audio CD should play just about anywhere so if it's not playing then it's not down to the setting you have chosen. It may just be your players, some can be fussy about what they will read, or it could even be the CD media itself. Have you been able to play CDs you've burned before or is this the first time you've had a problem? Have you another brand of blank CDs you can try?
Another thing you could try is reducing the burn speed and see if that helps, especially of you have it set at Maximum Possible. Open iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Burning and reduce the Preferred speed down. The packaging for your CD should have a maximum burn speed quoted somewhere, go lower than that. For instance if it's 24x try burning at 16x

  • Disc won't play in  DVD player

I just burned a project with iDVD 6 and while it works fine on my Mac, It won't play on my regular DVD player. I know that my main DVD player plays DVD-R because it has played every DVD that I've recorded from my spindle. I test them all on this player. I burned 2 copies of this project and neither would play on my main DVD player... but they would play on my bedroom DVD player. What could this be?

  • CD/DVD R discs won't play in Sony DVD player system.

I have just backed up my music and photos on CD R and DVD R discs on my new Macbook Pro. None will play on my Sony player. I previously purchased CD RW from Verbatim recorded on my Powerbook G4 and they play fine. I know there is technology change here, but what should I buy? For instance, can I still purchase discs that would play in my 4 year old dvd player or is that a waste of time? Do I need a new player?

I'd suspect the player since it is 4 years old and especially since it is a Sony who was slow to embrass that technology in the DVD players.
Before I bought my DVD player to play MP3 , I made a MP3 CDR took it to a store and played the disc in all the different models. Sony were the worst at the time. Heck within the same model one would play the disc and the other not.

  • ITunes MP3 discs won't play in car MP3 stereo

    Hi there...
I burned some MP3 discs, in MP3 disc format, on iTunes that I play on my car MP3 stereo player, and the car MP3 player won't recognize the disc or play just one or two songs on the disc. I'm burning them on CD-Rs. Furthermore, my old MP3 discs I burned on iTunes 3 works FINE on my car stereo, it's just discs burned with the recent versions. Does iTunes convert MP3s in a different way now? Any ideas as to what I can do?
Also, mp3s I create on itunes are not recognized properly on my Motorola cell phone as mp3s... they call them "QP3"s; mp3s converted on a PC are still recognized as iTunes. Any ideas as to why that's happening? Whew, that's a lot. Hope someone can help and thanks for your time...

twangus, your problem could be (let me stress that word could) the way iTunes is burning the disc and your car CD player doesn't like it.
iTunes burns dual platform MP3 CDs: ISO 9660 (for Windows) and HFS+ Extended (for Mac OS X). It could be that your player doesn't like these discs. To test this you should burn your MP3 CD with third-party burning software that allows you to specify what format to burn the disc in. Either exclusively ISO 9660 or HFS+ Extended.
Two burning apps that will let you do this on a trial basis are Dragon Burn and Disc Blaze. Roxio's Toast will also allow you to choose the target platform for the disc but it has no trial version.
Try one of these apps and let us know your results.

  • Burned disc won't play on CD players but will play on PC

iTunes informs me it has burned my playlist successfully to a CD-RW, but when put in a CD-player, 'disc' comes up. When I put the CD-RW into the PC again, iTunes tries to import the songs like its a normal audio CD. The settings in iTunes are set correctly to burn on the disc format 'Audio CD', and the burner itself, when I've 'Checked for updates', is apparently up to date. What can I do? Should I use a CD-R intead of CD-RW?
    Any help would be appreciated!!

    +"Should I use a CD-R intead of CD-RW?"+
Yes. Many "normal" (i.e. non-computer) CD players cannot handle CD-RWs. When burning an audio CD to play in a regular CD player or car stereo, always use a CD-R.

  • Disc won't play

I just finished my DVD project in Encore 2.0. I have done projects before and burned them to single layer DVD+R discs and had no trouble. I now have a new faster PC with a dual layer DVD burner. I created the DVD folder structure in Encore first. This folder structure plays just fine in WinDVD Gold 8. I've tried to burn this structure to DVD twice now. The first time I did it at 4x speed. Encore said it only had 341+MB to burn even though the earlier build process said it took up 4.3GB. I checked the folder structure and it does have 4.3GB of files. Encore does finish the burn but WinDVD doesn't recognize the disc as a DVD. With Windows Explorer I can see all the files on the disc. I tried slowing the burner down to 2.4x speed with the same result.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated!

I'm using Memorex DVD+R blank discs. Since the other application was successful in burning the disc, it is not the media.
A new data point this afternoon, when I burned the disc with Encore and pointed to the directory above the VIDEO_TS folder, the disc burned successfully with a minor caveat. Encore still reported that it was burning 341+MB instead of the 4.3GB. But the disc works so I guess I don't care.
I would think if Encore needs you to point to the directory above the VIDEO_TS folder, then it would not allow you to select the VIDEO_TS folder directory. The OK button should be grayed out if you point to it.

  • Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

I insert a blue ray disc, It starts the HP MediaSmart Player and then comes up with an error message stating:
    Information
    The content is protected.
The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode.
The computer is only a month old and has never played a blue ray.  its plays regular DVD just fine.
Any ideas what the problem coould be?

    Hi,
It seems that your PC has old version of MediaSmart installed, and it does not get updated from Cyberlink (Who created PowerDVD too).
Please follow the steps given below to get it resolved.
Click Start->Control Panel->PRograms and Features. Select MediaSmart DVD and click Uninstall. Uninstall PowerDVD too.
    Install MediaSmart New Version:

  • MP3 disc won't play in your car? Two answers that worked for me...

I bought a new car with an mp3 changer and thought "All right!! Hours of music!". First few discs I made either would only play the first couple of songs or none at all. After searching for answers, two came up that did the trick. So here they are!
    1. Select the music you wish to burn, right click, select "Convert ID3" and choose "v1.0".
    2. Slow the burn speed down to 4x.
After I did these two things, my mp3 player was very happy!!

Oh yeah, use "name brand" cd=r...not the house brands.

  • Hddvd disc won't play in dvd player?

I took 49 mins of hd video edited in fcp and compressed it to quicktime h.264 video for dvdsp. The project is 4.5 gb. My prefs in dvdsp show 1280x720p resolution with a 16:9 letterbox. The encoding prefs are one pass vbr with 18.0 bitrate.
I simulated and burned the project fine. The resulting dvd will not play in either a dvd player or a tv with dvd combined. It will only play in my mac.
Is this what I should have expected? Can hddvd's not be read in today's players?

  • Can burn a disc but it won't play on my computer!

Please help. Since upgrading to Tiger I have not been able to use DVDSP 4. I burn a disc the same way I always have using the same brand of discs that I have always used. The disc burns with no error message. When I try and play the disc on my computer I get the message: Supported Disc Not Available! The disc won't play in any other player either. I'm going nuts over this. Any ideas?

I burn a disc the same way I always have using the same brand of discs that I have always used
Describe both your usual disc-burning technique, as well as the brand of discs you're using (as well as whether they're +R or -R).
Are you burning with an internal SuperDrive, or an external burner?
If the disc won't play on your computer and "won't play on any other player either," that sounds like an overall bad disc, not just one that "won't play on my computer."
