Discolored areas on screen

Argh. There's two large areas in the upper 1/4 of my screen that are discolored.
When I look at the screen with a lighter background - text messaging, calendar, notes, the metal pinstriping background, etc, I can clearly see these large white "circles", about 1/4" across, on either side of the screen. Diameter, maybe 1". One on the left is worse than the one on the right.
It's one of those things where now it's ALL I can look at every time I look at the screen.
I've babied the phone, so its definitely not some sort of physical damage (that is, caused by dropping it or anything).
Anyone else see this on theirs? Best way to see it is go into Settings, and pull the window down so you see a lot of the metal pinstripe background.
Taking it to the 5th ave Apple Store early in the AM, hoping to get a quick replacement, especially with all the reports of folks getting replacements for just 2 dead pixels!

i have exactly what you describe...on the welcome screen where you have the time and date...mine looks like a spotlight shining on the gray background on the upper right side of the screen. It drives me nuts and I hope it doesnt spread. It is more pronounced on mail and text where the background is white. Then, the color looks a feint yellowish white and bright. Were you able to fix yours?

  • What are the screens made of on iPod nanos?

Hi I am looking to buy an iPod nano, most interested in 6th gen but everything from 4th onward looks decent to me... My current music player is last years model of the 8gb Sony Walkman.  The very first time I put it in my pocket and went for a walk, the coins in my pocket made quite the mess out of my screen.  The sound quality on the unit is amazing though... If I am going to invest in a new player, it has to have a scratch resistant screen like gorilla glass.  What are the screens made of on iPod nanos and how well do they perform against being in a pocket with things such as coins, keys and a lighter?
Thanks in advance for any helpful responses

It is Gorilla glass and is scratch resistant but not impervious. I've carried mine in my pocket with coins, keys, etc.

  • When I click on file on desktop it highlights another area on screen

Clicking on any file on desktop cause a blank area on screen to make "boxes"

Thank you both for your help. sorry for the delay but I have been away. No 1 reply sorted the problem, thank you. However I have now installed Team Viewer as a free download so my son can access my PC to correct my difficulties. I would recomend this facility to anyone like me who doesn't understand the first thing about computers.

    Hi pankesh,
while recordin in SHDB when the screen moves to sales data screen record the screen by inputting some error data and while calling the transaction through CALL TRANSACTION use processing mode as 'E' so that the the BDC will get stuck in the sales screen and the user can rectify the data and then continue.

There is a small area on the bottom left side of my screen that is discolored. Is this an internal problem with my computer, that will cause issues in running?

Here's another discussion post that talks about the same thing--worth checking out. Apple has replaced my screen and entire top clamshell piece (covered under AppleCare) but it's happening again so I have to get it replaced again.

  • Deperaction Area 32 screen is not getting dispalyed in Production Via ABAA.

    Hi,
When we are trying to Post the unplanned depreciation on prior-year acquisitions (640) via ABAA, we are getting an error message that Deprecation Area 32 should be Zero, We have check the OADB ( Display view asset accounting: define depreciation area) configuration setting, where Posting to G\L is maintained as u2013 0 (No values are posted in General Ledger). Then we have advised the key user to make the value ZERO for Deprecation 32 when he posts the unplanned depreciation on prior-year acquisitions via ABAA.
But the problem here we are facing in Pre production server (XZB) when we post unplanned depreciation on prior-year acquisitions via ABAA where we are getting THREE Pop window screens like Deprecation Area 02, 32, 90 but when we are doing the same in Production Server (PZB) where we are getting TWO Pop window screens like Deprecation Area 02, 90, Deprecation area 32 pop window screen is not getting displayed, can some help me in resolving this Issue.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Rajesh Kumar Mantri

    hi,
Check in t-code OABU whether your area allows UP depreciation. The setting in OABU should NOT be contradictory to the
selection made inside the depreciation area .Means,if you select the option "no values allowed" for unplaned depreciation, in the
definition od depreciation area, then it wil overwrite the setting in OABU.
I guess this is the reason fior your issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Are touch screen gestures supposed to be obvious?

Bought my father a new nano, loaded up some music, and I am trying to navigate. My iPod nano 2nd generation has the click wheel, so now I am trying to use the touch screen. I assumed it would be like the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch that I am used to, but hardly anything seems to work.
If I touch on the icon for Music, it gets outlined, but nothing happens.
I have to touch rapidly twice to open the Music icon.
When I slide up to scroll, nothing happens.
When I slide right to go back (per the on-screen tip), nothing happens.
On the home screen, at the bottom, there are two small circles indicating that there is another page of icons, but scrolling does not seem to work.
I just double-checked, and I did remove the plastic cover over the screen.
It is a two hour round trip to the nearest Apple store, so before I drive there to have them say, "no, this isn't a touch screen", is there anything obvious that I could be missing?  My old old 2nd gen nano has a switch that prevents to click wheel from operating, but I don't see anything like that here.
    Thanks
    Bill

To follow up in case anyone else has the same problem: the third Apple store employee that I showed the device to realized that one of the visual accessibility features had been enabled.
This feature apparently uses voice over to announce what icon you've touched, and then requires a second touch to select the icon. The first two employees claimed that you have to double-tap on the iPod, which is wrong. The third guy's quote:  "If you turn on this visual accessibility feature and you actually can see, you will become incredibly frustrated".
Once he turned the feature off, the touch screen became responsive as I would expect. Select an item with a single tap, scroll with a swipe, and so on.
If it seems that your touch screen is not working "right", try connecting to iTunes to see if this feature is turned on: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1695

  • Are the screens on white iMac 20" better than those on new 24"?

I have read so much about the troubles with the 20" and 24" Aluminum iMac screens that I'm afraid to buy one now, and was thinking of buying a refurb'd white (plastic) iMac from Apple. Is the screen tech in the white version better than that in the 24" Alum? I have an old 2.0 white iMac and have never had any trouble with the screen at all.

    Pier Rodelon wrote:
Thanks for these pix. I have two more questions,
    1) Previous poster suggests that specs for the white iMac screens were lower
than specs for ALU iMac screens--is this true and in what particulars?
Other than viewing angle and brightness, Apple doesn't publish any meaningful
    screen specs.
The ALU screens are a little brighter -- entirely too bright -- and they don't have
sufficient adjustment range to reduce the brightness for comfortable viewing with
    normal home lighting levels.
The 20" ALU viewing angle specs are much poorer than the white 20" or any of
the 24" models. In practice, the difference is easily noticable even to the most
    casual observer.
    2) Does the 24" white iMac have the same screen that the 20" white iMac has?
All 24" iMacs have expensive S-IPS LCD panels. That's the same basic technology
and from the same manufacturer as the Apple Cinema Displays. (As discussed
previously, some (many?) 24" ALUs have/had problems with uneven backlighting.)
    Some white 20" units use exactly the same S-IPS panel as 20" Cinema Displays;
some others came with an excellent-quality S-PVA display. I believe all 20" iMacs,
at least as far back as the G5 PPC, used similarly high-quality (gorgeous!) panels.
The 20" ALU iMacs all have much lower-quality TN panels (from various sources).
The 17" white Intel iMacs also use the lower-quality TN panels.
To see what display you currently have, cut-n-paste the following command line
into Terminal.app -- then look it up in the panel database at tftcentral.co.uk:
    ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/\[^<\]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
I don't know if the 24" white iMac refurb would be a better choice than the 20"
    white (or the 20/24" ALU).
IMO, there's no contest in 20" size -- the white iMac displays are vastly superior.
If you're lucky enough to get a good display, the ALU 24" is very attractive; OTOH,
I have no performance complaints with my white 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo -- and it
was $600 less than my 24" ALU reject.

  • White areas on screen, are pink after printing! why?

    Can anybody help me?!
When taking a passport photo, with white background, I noticed that the background comes out pink when printer. Why is this?
We changed the height of the back light and miraculously this helped. But why? What was causing the whit area go pink?
At another ocassion, normal portraits taken with a white background. We selected the edges and deleted any color, to soften the edges. When we recieved the photos from the printer, the edges had light pink strips all around it. Is there an explanation to this?
I hope my description of the problem is clear enough.
If anyone has any knowledge to this problem. Please, help.

Here is an exampel of the problem I'm talking about. On this photo, you can't see the stripes, but once printed, all around the edges will apear light magenta lines.
Is calibrating the only reason why the white areas of a picture come out pink when printed onto paper?
Any technological answers as to why it does this? Why a light magenta shade instead of say....green? Or why does it give a color at all when on the screen it's white and as I've used the delet button to get rid of edges, shouldn't it be colourles?
This hasn't happened before but can it be that the printer somehow tryes to fill out the blancs by adding color to the deleted areas? I've used levels before to "add" white to the edges instead of "deleting" and I've not had this problem of light magenta stripes.
    Any input?

  • Vertical white areas on screen

This is a hard one to explain. The best way I can is to say that on the sides of the screen there are white-ish areas. Not really lines although they appear in a line but not an even line. More like a vertical area on the sides of the screen.
I've notice it doesn't happen all the time. More when the phone gets hot or used a lot.
I was wondering if any one else noticed this. Mine seems to have only recently started. Otherwise the phone works great. Just thought I would ask if any one else noticed this?

  • Dark area on screen, looks like smudge, anyone else seen something similar?

    Hi,
I got a new 16GB white 3G yesterday and love it!
It's been a long wait for us here in Sweden, but now the iPhone is finally here.
Just one problem: I have a small area of the screen that is visibly darker than the rest. It is situated about one inch from the top edge, and in the middle "horizontally". It is about 5 - 6 m.m. in diameter and resembles a smudge, but it is not possible to whipe it away, and it also looks a bit different from different angles.
It does not look like totally dead pixels since they just seem to be slightly darker than the surrounding areas. Possibly a smudge on the inside of the glass perhaps?
It is mostly visible on light gray backgrounds, and when scrolling lists (e.g. of text) since then it appears and disappears as the list is being scrolled (it is not clearly visible if there is text on it).
I know I should go back to the store to have them check, but I just thought I'd ask here first if anyone else has seen something similar?
I might also wait a while to see if it changes, right now it is a bit difficult to see sometimes and I don't want to go back to the store just to have them "send me away" because they didn't see it.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 3G. The only screen that looks sharp and free of any horizontal lines or "tracers" from text or images is the home screen. Safari, contacts, etc. look bad. I have an iPod Touch as well and none of these issues have ever been manifest on it. On the iPhone there will be horizontal lines across the screen of a lighter color than the background along the edges of images (like a photo for a contact in the address book) or a safari page when multiple pages are displayed. Also none of the text in Safari or even in the crossword puzzle game I purchased are as crisp as the text on the Touch.
I've played around with the brightness, but this has not helped (it becomes more evident when the screen is brightened).
I'm on hold with AppleCare and if I find out something I will report back.

The Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro problems are related to kernel panics, so the GPU is still working. In the case of the OP, the GPU has stopped working completely, so his/her problem doesn't belong to the kernel panic problem, so the OP may have to pay. I may be wrong.
Also, the 10.8.4 update won't help as this is a hardware problem, but it's always good to keep OS X updated

  • Area of screen doesn't update

When working in Sorenson Squeeze 4.2, I get an area on my screen that will not display properly. It's where the preview window would be. The video remains frozen there, covering up the active window. The only way I've found to get around it is to detach the preview window outside of the main application window and then place it back into the main window.

Go to that website. that's where you can check if the ipod is covered under apple's limited year warrenty. Just type in the your Serial Number and the country where you live and it'll will tell you if it's still covered under the warrenty. And if it is, you can go to the apple store and complain about the problem. They might even give you a new one. hope that helped.
