Discolored display?

Why are colors different on my computer display from my iPhone and other platforms? Is there a way to get accurate colors on my MacBook screen?
Usually pictures viewed on my laptop screen are more colorful and vivid than on my iPhone and iPad. iPad 2 isn't retina of course, but my iPhone 4 is, so I don't get why it's not as colorful...

Okay, that helped... But I'm not sure which one I should be using! Most of my problem is probably the Photoshop part of it... Should I swap back and forth between the Adobe RGB 1998 and Color LCD or something? Color LCD is clearly a better look for my laptop display... But in terms of accuracy, what would you suggest? It looks like I have quite a few more than 2 to choose from.
Thanks for your help!

  • Discolored Display/not image persistence or burn in

I have a late 2007 Intel iMac. I had this problem once before already and Apple replaced the display. I see that it has happened again. There is a random amount of grey discoloration happening on the left side of the screen. Not evident with a white background, but quite evident with a grey background. It does not appear to be burn in or image persistence. I wonder if the small halogen desk lamp I have on the left side (some 8" from the edge of the computer) could be responsible? Anyone offer an explanation for this?
I do have AppleCare and can take it in. I'm assuming I can't fix it myself.

I do NOT have a halogen lamp next to my iMac 7,1.
I do have 2 small Bose computer speakers on either side.
I have horizontal discolorations on the left side similar to yours.
LCDscrub http://toastycode.com/lcdscrub/ might fix it, but you will have to buy the software as the trial version is really useless (for obvious reasons).
I am living with the problem until next Summer (AppleCare expires in August 2010) when I will take into Apple for a fix.

  • Distorted/Discolored Display

I was using my MBP when all of a sudden the colors freaked out. The whole interface looks like a negative photo. Everything looks high contrasted. The buttons are all the wrong colors and I'm having a hard time reading any text. It boots fine and everything is ok till I get to the desktop. Right when the desktop loads it changes to the distorted setting I described. Please help, the MBP is only a few days old.

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and turn off the White on Black option under Seeing; the file which stores this setting isn't consulted until Mac OS X logs your account in.

  • Iphone 6 plus screen edges colorization

    Hello community
My ip6 plus has colorization around the edges of the screen in portrait mode. (As the phone is standing). It happens in all the apps I open.
If I don't open an app, i have a solid looking screen.
The colors I see are yellow, red, green, blue and just along the edges.
I am asking if anyone else is having this issue as my last iPhone 5 never had this.
Should I replace it with Apple.
    Thank you

  • Touchsmart monitor colors suddenly reverse

A few days after the trial period for Windows 8 expired I booted up to find that the monitor colors were reversed.  What was black was now white, etc.  I thought it was something Microsoft had done to provoke me to hurry up and buy 8, but after removing 8 and installing Linux Mint the problem continued.  Someone suggested that it might be the video card since, they claim, Touchsmarts tend to cause the video card to overheat.   Has anyone had this problem and how was it solved?
    The model is IQ504

  • Pavilion 23xi 23 monitor product number C3Z94AA - Pink color screen

This EXACT thing just happened to me.
Prior to calling HP support, I searched google and found several incidences of this problem.
I also did EXTENSIVE troubleshooting per instructions found on HP forums prior to calling.
And of course this monitor went out of warranty a couple of months ago - only a 1 year warranty???
I tried the using the motherboards graphics card (VGA) and also tried DVI, VGA & HDMI on the Nvidia Geoforce GTX670- all had the same issue with this monitor using different cables and connections.
I connected another monitor I have (Samsung) and it's displays great without problems.
Tried on both Windows 7/64bit & Windows 8 with all current drivers (checked to see if there were new ones)
This monitor Pavilion 23Xi even shows the discoloration and ghost icons when NO cable is connected to the computer and the monitor is just powered on??!!!
Even though I did all this troubleshooting and explained all of it to the tech rep when I first called she said that she could help me for a charge, but would refund it if she was unable to fix it.
I told her no, I did not want to pay a charge because I was pretty sure after a factory reset, another monitor that works ok, trying three different connection types DVI, HDMI & VGA, two different graphics cards and the monitor doing the same ghost icons/discoloration when it was not even connected to a computer - that is was the monitor.
She put me on hold and said that she got permission to troubleshoot without charging me.
We went thru all the steps I did again, powering off, trying different cables, connecting a different monitor etc and of course after all that she said it was the monitor and I would need to take it into Best Buy or some other store to see about getting it repaired.
I do not know the cost, but if its more than $50, I will probably just buy a different brand monitor that has a 3 year warranty, did not notice (slaps self) that these HP's only have a 1 year warranty when several other brands I bought previously all have 3 years... :-(
I should have went with a different brand to begin with based on my problems with HP inks, printers and prices from the past.
It just started doing this today, but is *very* annoying when you paid extra to get a higher quality image.
I just added an image of dropping to the command prompt, that shows that this HP monitor Pavilion 23xi shows ghost icons and images from previously visited pages if you look very closely.
It's really weird, like the monitor is retaining images in a buffer or memory but a reset, power off, holding down the on/off key for 20 seconds (which tech had me do) does not clear this.

  • Display got discolored 2" bar on right side

    Hi,
A strange thing has happened. My iMacG5 20" suddenly and without apparent reason displays a discoloration of 2" wide, from top to bottom, on the right side. Inside that 2" wide bar white becomes greyish and my folders seem to be polarised. Have tried to make new account, but problem remains. This problem started lets say two weeks ago, but went away until now. Now the problem seems to persist. Is this the video problem as meant in the repair extension program? Or could it be something I can fix myself? Please advise!
Thanks in advance and greetings from Amsterdam.

to Steve: This is exactly the same problem as with my iMac. How old is yours? By the way I now know a lot more about this issue. The 20 inch LCD screen is devided into 12 segments. It appears that our iMacs suffer from a defective segment. Any of these segments can become defective or even break down completely. If that happens the broken down segment gives no image whatsoever. If you bring your iMac to Apple, like I did, they will say the screen is dead and needs to be replaced. If your machine is outside their 1 year warranty and has no extra AppleCare, they will charge you appr. 700USD for a new LCD panel (Apple part nr.661-3609) or even more for the panel in the bezel (part nr. 661-3318). The thing is that the panel used in this iMac, the LG.Philips LM201W01(A5)(K1), has a standard 3 year's limited warranty. So I am now trying to find out if a longer warranty period is applicable if the panel is not mounted in the Apple iMac. I sure hope so! Secondly, Apple could be forced by European law to extend their warranty to 2 years, that is in certain cases. But this only applies in Europe, of course.

  • New iPad Discolored/Tinted Display

Got the new iPad Firday. The resolution is phenomenal.
However, I've noticed that holding the tablet in portrait mode, the display graduates subtly in color from left to right, a cooler blue to a warmer red tint. This is uniform from top to bottom.  It is consistent throughout use, either from the moment it is turned on through extended use, in other words it doesn't go away after the device warms up. It does seem to be most pronounced at lower light levels. Full brightness seems to produce a consistent tint across the pad, but I rarely if ever use it at full brightness.
Obviously the iPad is not supposed to do this. My question is:
    1) has anybody else noticed the discoloration/tint?; and
    2) I recall that previous iPhones and/or iPods, and iPads suffered from something similar, which I believe was attributed to laminates that had not fully dried by the time the devices left the factory, and after a few weeks, the tint went away. Anybody know if this phenomenon has been reported with the new iPad, of if it could be something similar?

Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Discoloration also on the back of the display?

    Hello everyone,
I bought my white MacBook last June, and backordered a 13-inch MacCase sleeve. I’ve been using a 14-inch sleeve they sent me for free, until they finally sent the 13-inch model last week. These sleeves have a square see-thru window in the middle, so the Apple logo shows up from the outside. I am overall satisfied with their build quality and design.
About a couple of months ago, I’ve started noticing a grayish square mark on the back of the display of my book, around the Apple logo, exactly the same size as the window on the sleeve. At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it, thinking that I could be just dirt coming from inside the sleeve. One day I thought the computer was dirty enough, and I decided to clean it but, to my surprise, realized that the mark wouldn’t come off. I’ve first tried to remove it with a dry cloth, then with some water, and finally Endust Electronics to clean it, to no avail. It is permanent.
I contacted the sleeve manufacturer to explain the situation. I spoke with the president of the company, who was very polite, and he asked me to email him pictures of the marks. Emailed the pictures, and he got back to me about couple days later, telling me that out of 26,000 sleeves sold, I am the only customer reporting this issue. He also mentioned he spoke with many experts in the plastic industry, and they told him that this could be a problem with the actual material used in the shell of the computer, that it was molded or formed incorrectly, heated or cooled too quickly etc. He suggested that I contact AppleCare, which I –being familiar with the discoloration problems on the white MacBooks- did.
I scheduled an appointment with the genius bar at the local Apple store (where I bought the computer from), and went there. They took a look at it and, sure enough, said that the marks were caused by the sleeve. They also told me that this is considered a “cosmetic defect” and as such, it is not covered by the warranty. Out of curiosity, I asked them how much would it cost to replace the outside shell, and they said $280. They opened a case# for me, writing all the details, and suggested me to contact AppleCase by phone to see how they can work this out. I haven’t called AppleCare yet, but I will do it soon.
So, right now I’m in the middle of this likely-lost battle. I just find the idea of being a single case out of 26,000 a little hard to digest. And I find even harder to digest that after buying a brand new computer, and a brand new sleeve *to protect it*, I now have to deal with these marks on the case, especially when the computer is not even 4 months old.
Has anyone else out there experienced this issue with a white MacBook and a MacCase sleeve? I will appreciate your input.
    Daniel

Take a look at this Replacement Program: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook-bottomcase/
Typically, they will not announce a program like this until they are sure it will resolve the issue. It sounds like both of you had your repairs done before this program was initiated (5/27/11), so your replacements probably didn't have the final corrections in the bottom case.
I would contact Apple per this article and see about getting it fixed. I have seen a couple of other users posting that they did the Self service option and were very pleased.

  • Discolored 1px vertical lines on my display?

I don't know what to describe it as, but I've got two vertical lines on my display that are unable to display select colors (and rather precise shades of those colors). For the most part, during normal use, it's not visible at all, the lines of pixels in question work just fine. But come across a website or something similar with one of these colors that sets them off, and I've got a discolored line through the display. :/
The one line has been there for at least a year, it doesn't bother me much so I just ignored it. But now a second line has popped up, and the existing one is having issues displaying more colors (before it was only blues... now it's doing it with select reds and pinks as well).
I'm wondering two things here, the first of which being the name to refer to this issue as. They're not dead pixels, since they work with most colors, and they're not stuck pixels as they function fine most of the time... So what are they? Secondly would this be worthwhile having Apple service the machine for? It's not really something that comes up that often in regular use, but I paid for AppleCare so if it's something worth getting looked at, I might as well. This is the time of the year to do it, at least... School's out and my AppleCare expires in April of next year.
One photo for each vertical row (the color on screen is solid, as is the color of the line, my camera just blows):

I have that exact same problem, i got my MBP last week and i had one of those lines out of the box. I picture myself getting the screen replaced in the future but like you said, for now its not a huge bother. Let us know what you decide/how it goes with AppleCare!

  • MacBook display discoloration

    Hello-
Both my brother and I have identical black MacBooks; same set up, everything. However, his display looks more true to color whereas my colors are more washed out and yellowish. We have the same color profile. Help.

same exact problem here. my boyfriend just got a macbook about 2 months ago and i noticed the significant difference between the two.... mine being dull and more distinctly "yellowish", while his is bright and crisp as could be. i messed with the calibration, reset pram and smc and all, but it's still like that. i called apple about it and they said that once the screen gets too dark for me to see to give them a call back. it's not that it's too dark to see, but it's irritating! my screen suffered from the "screen flicker" issue and i thought maybe that messed up my display a bit.

  • Discoloration in display

Anyone having a problem like this with a 24" cinema display?  It first turns on looking perfect, after a few minutes, this starts to appear and gets worse.  The picture below is after a few hours of being on.  Doesn't matter which laptop or OS I use, happens on all of them.

You'll probably want to contact apple via phone or email and find out the answers to those questions.
In the mean time, here's a link to a discussion not to long ago that sounds like your issue and with photos so you can see if it's the same problem.
I'm pretty sure the MacBook in the other discussion is the same as yours.

  • Macbook (Late 2007) Display Discoloration

    Hello,
From the moment I took my Mac out of the box the screen had been yellowish and "warm" if you will.
I didn't think anything of it until I compared my Mac side by side with another Macbook, which had the correct colors.
About a year ago I took it into the Mac store and they told me my display inverter needed to replaced. They replaced it and the display FINALLY looked as it should.
It's now a year later and i'm experiencing the same problems, but my Apple care has run out.
Does anyone know if this is a difficult DIY repair? if so, where would I go about ordering the part?
    thanks,
    aaron

Have you downloaded the Mac OS X (10.5.4) Combo Update? I posted my problem, very similar to yours, and in researching it I found it at: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1054comboupdate .html. It might just be what you need!
My problem is that I am running 10.5.7, which I blame for my external display not acting like it did when I was on 10.5.6! One expert at Apple Support told me to erase my HDD, reinstall Tiger, upgrade to Leopard again, but only to 10.5.6! Has anyone any idea as to when 10.5.8 is due out? Is there a Beta?
