Disconnected  files are in Recycle Bin PSE 7 - Vista 64

I am getting disconnected files and am wondering what I'm doing wrong. These are files I only access through PSE7, never Windows Explorer. I'm not changing their location or names. What I think may be happening is after I edit a photo, I have been unstacking them and deleting the original -- and also deleting it from my hard drive. I only want to keep the edited version. I just need someone to confirm that's what's happening. I used an old version previously that gave me the option of "replace original with edited". PSE7 doesn't do that, I think. But I don't need two versions out there on my hard drive, only the edited. How do I get rid of the original safely? These disconnected files appear to be in my recycle bin and I can figure out how to get them back, just want to know what I'm doing wrong. "Watched folders" is confusing to me, as it only pops up when I go off to another catalog (I have many), so I don't want those photos from another catalog brought in there. Also, can someone tell me if there is a maximum number of pictures allowed in a catalog? Thank you!

Mary,
When PSE 7 modifies the metadata (captions, notes, dates/times, etc.) of a file, it often places a copy of the original in the Recycle Bin:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Photos_appear_in
This is normal, and you can feel free to empty the Recycle Bin at any time.
Your procedure for getting rid of the original version of an edited photo is fine: Save the edited photo in a version set, then delete the original from within PSE. Nothing untoward should happen.
> I am getting disconnected files and am wondering what I'm doing wrong. These are files I only access through PSE7, never Windows Explorer.
Do the Organizers thumbnails of these files have a yellow question mark in their corner? And does File > Reconnect > All Missing bring up a list of these files? (I want to verify that they are indeed disconnected.)
> Now when I'm in my "recipes" catalog, it shows a picture from my "grandma's old photos" catalog, with the recipe caption that I orignally assigned in the "recipes" catalog. I can understand that the caption may stay with the catalog, but can't figure why there are three different photos with the same file name. I'm afraid to scan any more until I get an answer. I scan a lot of pictures and am going through all my family's historical pictures. These are all going into a "scanned photos" folder and the file name is assigned by either PSE or the scanner.
What is the precise workflow you are using to scan? It appears you are doing File > Get Photos And Videos > From Scanner?
> I scan a lot of pictures and am going through all my family's historical pictures. These are all going into a "scanned photos" folder and the file name is assigned by either PSE or the scanner. Is there a way to tell PSE that I want subfolders separated by date? I have Epson V500 Scanner, if that helps.
The File > Get Photos And Videos > From Scanner command places all scanned images into the Pictures\Adobe\Scanned Photos folder. But it assigns a unique name to each file and it wont overwrite an existing file. (I just used the command to scan a photo, and PSE gave it the name Scanned Photos\Image1.jpg; I then scanned a photo into a second catalog, and PSE gave it the name Scanned Photos\Image1-1.jpg. ) You can change the folder it uses for scanned images via Edit > Preferences > Scanner. Using a different folder for each catalog may help you organizationally, but it shouldnt have any effect on the problems youre encountering.
For one of the photos that has the same name in two different catalogs, what does the Properties pane show as the full folder location and name in each of the two catalogs?

    Hey can someone help???
I just completed this task (support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my music to an external HD to free up my PC hard disc and all went well until I re-opened iTunes and it is a blank new account!
I also don't can't access anything from the recycle bin as when I copied the iTunes file to the recycle bin it said it was too large to copy over so made me effectively empty as I copied over as it was so big.
Any help gratefully recieved or where I can get some, I am going round in circles. I also don't know which itunes operating system I have, it is around 3 years old.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

You installed an app right? The menu options are a bit different for s60v3 and s60v5 or s60v2 devices, so the thing is go to the application manager, it is inside Menu>Settings (or tools). If I remember correctly, s60v3 devices have the menu>tools>phone>applications. However I could be mistaken (you could check your manual). Anyway, once you get to the application manager, look for the particular app you want to remove and select options>uninstall.

  • I moved itunes file to external hard drive and want to move the file on my pc to recycle bin. When I move i get an error message that it cannot delete ituneshelper.dll access is denied. Can I move that file to the recycle bin?

I am trying to free up space on my pc and moving itunes files to external hard drive. I have followed instructions and believe I have file copied to new drive, but I am having trouble moving file to recycle bin as the instructions say. I am getting the following error message: cannot delete ituneshelper.dll:access denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and file not in use. I know the file is not in use when trying to move. Any help would be most appreciated. I am on Windows XP.

Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.

  • Can I move a file to the Recycle Bin ?

Is there a way, in LV 8.5 to move a file from one directory into the "REAL" Recycle Bin???  Thanks

    will this helps!

  • Where does song files restored from recycle bin go?

I'm a newbie with iTunes. In error, I deleted a dozen songs while cleaning up duplicates. I found them in the Recyle Bin, and as I'm accustomed, "Restored" each individually. However, none of the songs appeared in the My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder. Does anyone know where I may find the files, or should I have used another method to restore the songs to my library? Thanks for the help.

The Restore function in Windows puts the file back to where it was before it was deleted. If you want to know where that will be before you restore it, look in the Recycle Bin at the column "Original Location." (If the "Original Location" is not visible, go to View > Choose Details and check its box).
If you don't want that, you can just drag the icon from the Recycle Bin to wherever you want it, instead of using Restore.
Also note that putting a file back into the iTunes folder does not automatically re-add it to your iTunes library. You need to use the iTunes command File > Add File (or Folder) to Library.

  • DO NOT DISCONNECT--files are in use by another application

I bought a video iPod today, and after downloading some songs from iTunes, my iPod says DO NOT DISCONNECT, but iTunes says the update is complete (but doesn't say it is OK to disconnect). When I try to eject the iPod, I eventually get the following message: "The iPod "David's iPod" cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." I called Apple customer support and was told that they really couldn't help, because they didn't know what application was using my iPod. I disabled the anti-virus programs, but I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?
    Best regards,
    David

I have this problem all the time. I've also tried disabling my antivirus. The only thing I can find that works is just try again later, and try to catch it at a moment when "the files aren't in use". I've tried enabling and disabling the "enable disk use" setting (I'm not sure it takes properly because the iPod always shows up as G: in both cases. When I have this issue, I can't use the green "Safely Remove Hardware" arrow in my task bar because Windows (XP Pro) says "The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later."
I can't update to 1.2 because of this issue. Can someone please help.

  • My recycle bin isn't working, files are "permanently deleted" bypassing recycle bin

Hi... I have a Dell Laptop which is running Windows 7. Whenever i try to delete something, the dialogue box asks "would you like to permanently delete this file?" and seems to totally bypass the recycle bin.
I tried right clicking the recycle bin icon to change properties. The options for "Custom size" and "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" are UNCHECKED but are also both greyed out and cannot be changed!
"Display delete confirmation dialog" is not grayed out, and is checked.
I tried to fix the Recycle bin settings from command prompt by running : rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin. It didnt help
I am deleting files from the local drive.
    I have tried creating a
new user account but the issue was not fixed. The laptop is in a domain. The above issue doesn't occur in safe mode. I tried to find out if a service or startup item is causing this but was not able to locate any. I have ran SFC scannow
    and checkdisk, it didn't help.
There is no group policy which is affecting this.
Is there any fix for this issue??

Check for a key called "NoRecycleFiles" in
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
If present, try setting the value to 0. Alternatively, delete it.

  • Problems emptying RAW files from Recycle Bin

    Hi
I am not sure, but think my problem is connected with Lightroom 1.4.1
When I delete RAW files from disc via Lightroom, they go into the Recycle Bin. However, I am unable to delete them from the bin without using an unlocker program. This is because when I choose to delete individual RAW files from the bin (or choose completely empty bin)I get a message saying that file Dq(number) cannot be deleted as it may be in use by another program. But no other program is open.
I think this only applies to RAW files (Canon CR2) where I have created an editable file in Photoshop CS3. I am fed up with the tedious task of removing each individual Dq/CR2 file from the Recycle bin (the unlocker program will not let me batch delete) and suspect a workaround involving removing the CR2 files from the Lightroom catalogue and then deleting them from their source folder might work.
However, this semms a clumsy way of having to do thistask.
Has anyone else come across this please and does anyone have an elegant solution? Oh, the files concerned are all on an external hard disc, but I cannot see why this should affect things.

Hi, Andrew. I do not have an external HD, so I am not sure if this is related. LR 1.4's seems to do some odd things with files that it sees as Read Only, such as from a CD, DVD, or external drive. Maybe it has something to do with this. Also, can you exit LR, then dumb Recycle Bin normally?

  • Downloaded podcast files not moved to recycle bin when deleted.

I have iTunes running on two computers (home and work) both running Windows XP SP2. On my work computer, of which I am an administrator, when I right click on a downloaded podcast and select "Clear", I get a prompt asking me about moving the file to the recycle bin or keeping the files. Every time I see this, I select "Move to recycle bin" but nothing happens. There's a slight pause, like iTunes is trying to move the file, but the files are never moved. The entry in my podcast list is removed but if I go to the iTunes Music \ podcast folder, there they are.
This does not happen on my computer at home. The files are actually deteled on that computer. What am I doing wrong???
    Thanks!
Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP Pro

    I don't think you're doing anything wrong!
I had just deleted to Recycle Bin a whole bunch of podcast this morning, and after I read your post, I checked my PC.
It deleted about 30 and left 3.
    Looks buggy to me!

  • Deleted podcasts won't go to the recycling bin

I'm running the newest version of iTunes, freshly installed, in Windows 7. Most of my podcasts come from a backup that I dragged and dropped into my iTunes folder. I've done this before without any issues. However, now whenever I try to delete a podcast that I haven't recently downloaded, it will give me a dialog stating that the podcast won't sync if I delete it, and then the buttons "Delete Podcast" and "Cancel" Rather than the "Keep File" "Remove to Recycling Bin" and "Cancel" that I'm used to. Deleting does not send the podcast into the recycling bin as it is supposed to and as it used to, however; it instead keeps the podcast in the same file and removes the instance from iTunes. I don't want to have to delete every file twice. Selecting all files and clicking on Allow Auto Delete changed nothing. Repairing my install of iTunes did not change anything. It seems as though all other instances of this issue are many years old. Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

  • Delete from HD bypassing recycle bin

    LR v1.1 & Vista.
Files deleted using LR's delete from HD are not being placed in the recycle bin but instead disappearing completely? Is this the designed behavior?
If so, I don't find this to be desirable.
If it isn't the designed behavior is it a bug?

    >>Are you sure you told Lightroom to remove the files as apposed to simply taking them out of the cataloge?
    Yes.
    >>Can you check in the folders where they started and confirm they aren't there?
They are not located in the original folder on the HD.
Update: Go figure, after asking for help it I managed to find the files in the recycle bin. Honestly, I didn't find them there yesterday. Oh well. Thanks for the help.
**However**, while I have your ear... :)
Empty folders that are deleted in LR are not actually deleted from the HD--only from the catalog. Is this the designed behavior? If so, is there a way to change it?
