Disconnecting an iPod that is stuck during synch

How can I interrupt synchronization of an iPod on a Mac so I can safely disconnect it? Eject does not work, either in iTunes or dragging iPod on desktop to the trashcan. The synchronization is stuck in an infinite loop - I presume having problems writing a song to the iPod. I have tried several work-arounds, most with no success: detaching the iPod anyway (corrupts the iPod content, requires full restore and start-over), shutting down iTunes (didn't shut-down by itself, nor did Force Quit work), shutting down computer (hard power-down left MacBook in odd state on start up - didn't get to a functioning desktop - left MacBook overnight, then it started OK next morning).
I've now tried synchronizing manually, in batches, by creating playlists of groups of songs. This seems to work up to a point, then I hit a bad point again where the same problem recurs. It has occurred now three times, while synchronizing different songs.
Any idea?
Background - I have an iPod (40GB, color display model) that I am having problems synching with my new MacBook. This iPod was previously synched with a Windows PC. I successfully transferred my music files and (most) playlists to iTunes on the MacBook, then restored the iPod to factory secttings and then configured as a Mac-based device. The problem first arose when I attempted to synch all my iTunes content, after having synched about 20% of the content to the iPod.

My Nano 2G was frozen once during a sync. All I did was reset the iPod (Menu + Center buttons), unplugged the iPod, and replugged it. But whatever you do, don't just unplug it, as it might mess up the iPod.
Another thing you could do is turn off your computer, unplug the iPod, turn the computer on, and replug the iPod.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Do you mean the same song repeats? If so, turn off the repeat (1) song feature.

Disconnected iPod during synch

I accidentally disconnected my iPod while it was synching, now when I plug it in to my computer, my it doesn't show up in iTunes and then iTunes freezes and eventually crashes. I've tried resetting it a few times, it hasn't helped. I don't know what to do. Please help me!

Since they are already removed I would make sure you have the latest ipod software, if not download it, and then reformat and resync the ipod. Reformatting will erase everything on the ipod, but it's already gone anyway. I would also go through the itunes prefs and see if there is anything checked that might do this.
Also, make sure you have the 5.0.1 update of itunes isntalled.

Synch Issue - no disk in drive message - do not disconnect on IPOD

During synch I get a message:
"Windows - no disk
There is no disk in the drive - please insert a disc into Drive F"
Drive F is a usb port and there is nothing in it. I thought maybe a song had F: in the title - found two and deleted them from the library, but problem still there. ITunes say synch complete -IPOD says do not disconnect, so have had to reboot IPOD to disconnect. Synch is okay and all files updated okay. Any help?

Well, thanks at least for confirming that I'm not alone. I've done a lot of research on the internet with folks having trouble syncing their older ipods and even ipod touches with the latest version of itunes. Hopefully Apple will read these complaints and address the issues in future versions.

Help ASAP needed

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

IPhone disconnects during synching

Out of the blue, my iPhone disconnects during synching. Each time is happens during the synch with contacts.
(I did add new contacts this morning. But I assume that my phone should support adding new contacts??)
Note: The error message says that the iPhone has disconnected, but it is still showing as being docked under 'Devices' in iTunes.

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

Connect the iOS device to your computer restore via iTunes. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.
