Disconnecting from the net!
i have my airport express connected to the iMac 2.0Ghz ,and its connected to my adsl modem , the thing is the internet get disconnecting every 5 - 15 minutes ..
i check the ip address for the airport express and the ip address for the computer by itself ..
and this is the details :
(airport express configuration)
ip 10.0.1.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Router 10.0.1.1
(system preferences configuration)
ip 192.168.1.84
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Router 192.168.1.1
so what i did everytime is just switch the configuration in the system preferences to manually or sometimes DHCP ..
this is the only solution i have to make it work for another 5 or 10 minutes, but it keeps disconnecting !
one more thing is the firmware is v6.2
is this an ip address problem or just a firmware version ?
do i have to downgrade to another version or update !?
i just need my internet to be working all the time without disconnect!

Thanks. Are you saying then that there is no way to stop this behaviour? That seems to be a strange default, especially if downloading will wipe the messages off the server. It's also strange that a lot of people have told me that their client doesn't download automatically on launch. I've tried everything I can to stop it doing so, though, so I think you're right. But I'm puzzled.
(This was also the case for me with Panther, by the way)

So, how do I get my IP address whether it�s connected to the network or not?If you're getting a dynamically assigned IP address from the network, then String to IP will return that IP but it may not be constant. See if TCP/IP properties are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically". If you disconnect from the network, then the IP address will default to something and I wouldn't be surprised if the default is 127.0.0.1. If you want to always have the same IP, then the ICP/IP properties should be changed to use a fixed IP but you'll certainly need to check with your IS department before doing so.

My MacBook Disconnects From The Net When It Is Closed? Can I Change This?
Hey, since I got my MacBook a month ago, the only thing that has bugged me is that my MacBook ALWAYS disconnects from the Internet (WiFi) when the lid is closed. This is irritating because I have to relogin to my MSN Messenger Mac, which takes a very long time. Originally I thought this was how it was meant to function, but a friend of mine told me that when he closes the lid his MSN Messenger Mac stays connected.
I've looked all over in Preferences, but I simply cannot find any option to prevent the MacBook from dropping its connection when the lid is closed.
This problem irks me so because I had to carry my MacBook around the house while its open, which is risky...

It's suppose to do that. This is one way to conserve the battery of your Macbook. However, there is a way to combat this by deactivating the system's sleep function temporarily through this software: InsomniaX. Remember to re-enable the sleep function before you turn off your system or else it may screw it up. -

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.

My Time capsule did a backup yesterday in the morning without any problem. All of a sudden, it disconnected from the wireles system last night and the little indicator lamp turned off. It still makes a noice, as if a disc was turning inside. The Time Capsule was bought last year in June. Any suggestiom what to do? What happens if I press the little buttom (reset?), will I loose af my backup?
Do a reset.. power off the TC..
Hold in reset and power on.. keep holding in reset until it flashes rapidly.. if it turns on at all.
If you bought it in June.. take it back today.. it is broken.. at a guess.
Some Gen4 are failing this way.. get Apple to replace it.. even if it is a few days out of warranty it won't be much. -
When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. There are a variety of file formats for storing and sending video. You will probably want to install VLC, which handles most open formats. RealPlayer is used on their proprietary format.

Hi - I'm trying to sync iBooks on my Macbook Pro with iBooks running on my iPad. I have some pdf's download from the net I want to share between devices and I can't work out how to sync the two devices. Any help please? I'm running Mavericks
Thanks for your help Brij011 - much appreciated. Apologies as I'm a newbie but I've looked at the info for synching and I appear to have all the switches flicked on my iPad. Does the iPad and iBooks only sync in iCloud for purchases as I appear to be doing something wrong. I could sync ok when books was in iTunes but since migrating to Mavericks I think I'm doing something wrong!!

my apple tv is disconnected from the wifi intermittently, the problem is not the wifi as it only happens to the apple tv. that I can do to fix this problem.-
That doesn't rule out a network issue, as it can impact devices differently. Intermittent issues are most often related to wifi issues. Try connecting via ethernet. Go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

I recorded music played on an Internet webpage (I believe by means of a Flash Player) with QT-Pro.
Then I played it back again in QT - and it was there - although in poor sound quality. -
I have accidentally "disconnected" from the Internet in Airport Utility. How do I reverse what I have done? I clicked on the globe and clicked where it said "connected" and now it says "disconnected" HELP!
markwmsn, In the Airport Utility on my iPad I clicked on the globe at the top of the screen and over to the side there was the word "Connected". I clicked on it and it changed to read "Disconnected". At that point I started having Internet connection problems. All of the extremes (2) and expresses (6) I have spread throughout my home at first were green, but then began to either turn yellow, like the globe had, or disappear from the screen. Even though the globe remained yellow I went through the house and reset all the other devices. I was sure the problems were caused by my clicking on the word " Connected" and changing it to " Disconnected". I clicked on "Disconnected", but nothing happened. I called and wrote my ISP to ask them to reset the server serving my home. I got a call few hours later telling me that there had been an outage in my area, so I began thinking that perhaps there had been a coincidental occurrence of me clicking "Connected" and there being a service outage in my area. Needless to say I've decided to never click that word again for fear of the problem really being my actions.
If you can shed light on any of this, I'd be grateful.

My brand new Flex 2 14 periodically disconnects from the network on Wi-Fi. This is pretty unacceptable. Other PC's in the house are not experiencing the problem, so it's difficult to blame the router.,
I have a Broadcom 802.11N Network Adapter device with driver version 6.30.223.201, which is the latest on the Lenovo site. I am running Windows 8.1, as provided on the system. I've installed Windows updates and some other software, but have not otherwise changed the OS.
I have seen other users with similar problems, but no fixes for Broadcom.
Any ideas anyone? May be a "back to lenovo" thing.

Go to Solution.I called Lenovo Tech Support and they had me try something that seems to be working. Apparently there are *two* drivers available for the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter: one published by Broadcom, one published by Microsoft. My system *was* configured to use the Broadcom driver, Lenovo Tech support had me change to use the Microsoft published driver. I have not had a disconnect since.
To change the selected driver:
0. Make sure you have the latest drivers from the Lenovo support site installed.
1. Launch "Device Manager"
2. Expand "Network adapters"
3. Right-click on "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter" and select "Properties".
4. In the properies window, select the "Driver' tab and click "Update Driver..."
5. In the update window, select "Browse my computer for driver software"
6. On the next page, select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
7. On the next page, you should have a choice of selecting from one of two drivers. Select the one from *Microsoft*.
8. Click "Next" and complete the driver install.
