Disconnecting ipod shuts off computer

on occasion when unplugging an ipod from my tower (after properly ejecting it and getting confirmation of having done so) my G4 shuts off! this scares the **** out of me. am i doing something wrong? never happens to me at work (also a mac). using device to transfer data, not play music. husband synched it with his windows version of itunes. my mac version is 4.7. ipod is second generation (i think), 40GB and fairly large.
thanks for whatever help/advice y'all can provide.

So it shuts down when you unplug the iPod firewire cord from the computer ... or when you leave it connected to the computer, but unplug the cord from the iPod?
Try this (after proper eject of iPod):
1.) unpug the ipod cord from the iPod - leave cord attached to computer;
1a) - if that worked, now unplug cord from computer.
2.) unpug the cord from the computer - leave ipod cord attached to ipod;
Which of those steps caused a shutdown?

  • My ipod shut off and won't turn back on.

My ipod shut off for no reason, it had a full charge but it just shut off and it won't come back on and when I plug in in to my computer nothing happens, this happened before and I played with the buttons till it came on but it's not working this time.  Any Advice?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod shut off and home button does not work

So my friends iPod shut off and her home button doesn't work, and if plugged in wont turn on either? We tried the alcohol method but it did not work, anyone have any suggestions on what to do. ( her warranty is also expired)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

    or

    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too

  • Video Issue (iPod shuts off)

This question if for the iPod techs around here:
2 months ago, I would play videos, and they iPod would shut off and go to the apple screen. Sometimes, it wouldn't even turn back on. I sent it back. They SAID they fixed it. I run a video again. iPod shuts off. Same thing. Says the battery if full, then red, then full, then red, then full. I feel I got ripped off big time.

When this happens, it's usually one of three things:
    1. A bad video file (make sure it plays fine in iTunes).
    2. The iPod's battery is near empty (make sure it's fully charged - the battery symbol has to show a lightning bolt and flash green, otherwise it's not charging properly).
    3. There's a problem with the iPod itself. Try the instructions in iPod 101:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/help/
If none of this helps, you may have a bad iPod.

  • Ipod wont turn on all i see is the apple sign then my ipod shuts off again, how to fix it?

ipod wont turn on all i see is the apple sign then my ipod shuts off again, how to fix it?

Connect it to itunes, and see if itunes recoginizes it.
If not, then hold home and the power button to do a soft reset.
If not, then you will need to go into recovery mode.
To get into recovery mode you need to Hold Power + Home at the same time. After it goes blank, continue holding the home button while releasing your finger from the Power Button.
You should be able to do it. Otherwise, you may need to send your Ipod in for repair.
NOTE - Using recovery on your Ipod will erase all data and reset all settings.

  • My ipod shut off randomly... any help??

someone please help meee. my ipod shut off completely randomly & i cannot get it to turn back on! i have tried pressing & holding every button... nothing works. if anyone has had this happen to them & knows what to do, PLEASE HELP ME!

So you have tried a hard reset?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Don't be afraid to try this procedure more than once as well as hold these two buttons together for up to a minute.
Otherwise, see the article for information and assistance.

  • IPod shutting off after use?

Hi everybody, so i was using my iPod touch and the app i was using started to glitch a bit, i didn't pay attention to it and kept playing. Then a few seconds later, my iPod shut off and the silver apple symbol popped up. Ive seen it before when my uncle starts up his iPhone, but it doesn't do it on startup on mine. What's going on and what can i do? Thanks

    - Have you tried resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be restoring from backup via iTunes
    - Next restore to factory defaults also via iTunes since there could be some corruption which is now in your backup.

My iPod shuts off repeatedly when using the Nike running app. Have already tried the headphones solution that Apple has recommended. Can anyone help?

Using the 5th generation iPod. Purchased it a few months ago before the new one was launched. Yes the workout randomly ends when I am no where near the time or distance I have programmed in. I keep tried to restart the workout and the same thing keeps happening over and over again. I figured it may have been the headphones but I have even tried holding the headphone connection in place, and different headphones as well and it continues to happen.

  • Ipod shuts down computer

    Hi everyone -
I'd really appreciate any help anyone out there has on this.
A few months ago, I plugged my 3rd gen 15 gig iPod into the firewire port of my computer and everything froze up and the computer just turned off. I rebooted and the problem didn't happen again.
Since the beginning of this week, every time I plug in the iPod, the computer takes a few seconds (sometimes a minute), displays in the lower right corner the 'hardware attached' icon, and then the computer turns itself off.
I am currently running the most recent version of iTunes and the iPod is running the software that was updated in June, which I believe to be the most recent as well (if not, there's nothing I can do about it because I can't update it with the computer shutting off).
So if anyone has had/is having/knows how to fix this problem, I'd greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Steve

First do some scanning. Scan the system with your antivirus program. Scan the system with a malware program like ewido http://www.ewido.com. Use windows chkdsk to scan the system and the registry (if you need help with this just say so)
Goto the PC makers site and install all the updates for your system, especailly BIOs Chipset IDE controller and USB updates.
