Discontinued Material

I have maintained a raw material as discontinued material.
The Follow up material is also given in Material master.
The Discont.Grp is given in BOM.
The ware house stock of discontinued material is 0
so tat it shud take the follow up material.
But for the goods movement in confirmation screen its throwing error.
Goods movement failed.
Pls help me in this issue.
Rakesh

Dear Rakesh,
First check the Effective Out Date in MRP4 view of the material master for that discontinued material.
Effective-Out Date
Date from which the stocks of the material are to be used up. As soon as no more stock exists for
this material, it is to be replaced by the follow-up material.
Use
From this date, the system reassigns the dependent requirements that are no longer covered by
warehouse stock of the discontinued material to the follow-up material. This is done as part of material
requirements planning.
Procedure
Enter a date if you want to plan the discontinuation of a material for     the long term.

  • Why there is no dependent req. passed from discontinued material ?

    Dear gurus,
I set discotinue indicator=1, effective-out date and follow-up material. But, there is no dependent requirement passed from discontinued material material. That is I can't see the dependent requirement for the follow-up material. Anyone tell me the reason? Thanks!

I will test soon. Thanks to all involved.

  • Material Determination use stock of discontinued material

I am trying to determine if there is a way in R/3 to have a material replace an older material but as sales orders are entered take into consideration any inventory that might still remain of the discontinued material. Here is an example.
1.) We have 15 EA of Material A in inventory in Plant 123
2.) We are going to discontinue Material A and replace with Material B in this plant
3.) VB11 Condition Records are setup for the A to B substitution for order entries
4.) Order for 20 EA for Material A comes in
I would like to see a requirement tp use the 15 from A that are still inventory and then place an order for the remaining 5 on the new Matl B (from Mfg or whomever provides).
Is this possible using the condition records for material determination and the follow-up material options on MRP4 view?

    Hi Bill,
This is possible using standard SAP functionalities.
Now considrer a situation where you are creating VB11 record for material A(to be discontiniued) which is to be substituted by material B. And the need is to deplete the available stock of material A first and then start substituting it with material B.
In order to achieve this, while creating a record in VB11 firstly create a record for replacing mat A by mat A , then double click the record line that you have created, which will pop up a small window giving you options to enter mutiple alternatives apart from mat A. where you can you can enter material B as the second alternative/replacement after mat A.
The sequence of material is important to decide which material is considered as the replacement by the system.
In our case system will first replace mat A by mat A and search for stock availability, if sufficient stock or no stock available it will replace the original mat A with the alternative material entered in the VB11 record i.e. Mat B.
Another important thing to note while creating VB11 record is a check box available as "MRP Indiciator" now this indicator plays an important role while transferring requirement to MRP.
In our case we have Mat A which is being disontinued so we dont want the requirement for mat A to be transferred to MRP incase of shortage, instead we want the requirement for material B to be transferred for MRP.
In this case you need to check the MRP indicator box for Material B. if not checked the requirement for Mat A would be transferred to MRP.
    Hope this clarifies your questions.
    Thanks,
    Kishor

  • What will be the effect of discontinuation material in BOM on Reports?

If I discontinue material A and introduce follow up with material B,
then,  how will material B behave in case of settlement  .i.e. suppose
at the end of the day the system create a report about days consumption ,then does B will reflect directly in reports with consumption quantity or there are some changes need to do ?

    Hi Naimesh,
    Thanks for your reply.
But here if I check the function group in which the RFC is defined im able to find the following Includes:
    *   System-defined Include-files.                                 *
      INCLUDE LZPRODORDRFCTOP.                   " Global Data

But in not able locate the include  LZPRODORDRFCV07 which i have mentioned above.
I would also like to know what would happen if the %_RFC is removed.Would the addition of %_RFC affect the performance of the program in any manner.
Im not able to execute the program myself as it is linked with another server.

  • Discontinuation Material in MRP run

    Hi,
In our scenario, we are using Discontinued parts with (Discontinuation Ind - 1, Effectivity-out date - Nil) with follow-up material in MRP4 view of MM.
It is observed that whenever there is no sufficient stock exist, dependant requirement is not transferred to the follow-up material during MRP run. However is the same is happening during Material Availability check.
Is there any IMG setting for this to happen during MRP run also.
    Thanks in advance.
    Parthasarathy P

    Hi ,Parthasarathy,
if an item to be disticontinued item , the following must be true.
    1. you have to define Discont ind= 1, and followup material  in MRP VIEW,
    2. Both Discont item and followup items should have same base unit of measure.
    3. When BOM of Header Material creation, discontinuation data is maintained for the discontinued item and follow-up data is maintained for the follow-up item -in CS01.
    4. Then you have to assign some value for Discontinuation Group  in "Discontinuation Data" for your Discot item in BOM. -in CS01
    5. Then create a followup group with same value of Discont Group for yourFollowup item -in CS01.
During the MRP run the Dependent requirements of header material will be transferred to Followup item if it is not enough stock of Discont item.
Please check your Discont data has defined in BOM. The value of Discont group and follow group should be same.
please letus know for further doubts...
    regards

  • Same discontinue and follow up material?

I have used before this function having a follow up material with indicator 1 and effective-out date. However, this time I have 3 materials A, B, C.
The logic I want to use is the following but I'm not sure if SAP supports this:
    A = discontinue material and B = Follow-up material. Using indicator 1
B = discontinue material and C = Follow -up material. Using indicator 1.
So far, SAP is not allowing me to have B as discontinue and follow-up material at the same time. Any insights?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Lee,
If you try to set the discontinuation for a follow-up material, then error message "Message no. 61224 -Multi Level Discontinuation not suported" will be generated when you try to run MRP. Refer Note 398238 - Error message 61224 for parts provided

  • Discontinuation indicator and follow up material.

    Hi,
I am facing the strange issue for which i need your expertise. The requirement is like:
    1. "X" material is discontinued and "Y" is as follow-up in two plants A & B. Discontinaution group and follow-up group has also been assigned in the BOM.
    2. Now The client want to reverse the settings . means "Y" should be discontinued and "X" should be follow-up in both plants A & B.
Now I have removed the discontinuation indicator and follow up material from "X" in both plants. But when I am going to discontinue the "Y" material and putting " X" as a follow-up material, The system is giving the message "The specified follow-up material results in recursiveness
    Message no. M3609
    Diagnosis
You have entered a follow-up material. However, the BOM explosion for the follow-up material leads to the discontinued material, resulting in unpermissible recursiveness.
    Procedure
Enter another follow-up material or cancel the entry.
Please suggest me where I am missing in my settings and what is the reason for this message.

    Dear ,
    Check the following  :
1.Validity of the Bill Of Material or any deletion flag is set in the present BOM.
2.Please check the following SAP notes :

  • Cost-Roll take follow-up material upon discontinuation effective-out date ?

    Dear Expert,
If we use discontinuation/follow-up material, during Cost-Roll (CK11N), SAP will take default cost from discontinued material even if follow-up material is effective.
<b>How to make SAP take cost of follow-up material after/on effective-out date ?</b>
    <b>Example :</b>
    Parent "A" contains component "B" qty 3, to be follow-up with component "C" upon discontinuation of "B" on effective-out dated 1st Nov'07, and like-wise to take std cost of "B' before 1st Nov'07 cost-roll.
Thus, when I roll cost in December, I hope SAP would calculate for std cost of A to include std cost of "C" (for cost-roll after 1st Nov'07).
    <b>Setting :</b>
    <u>Material Master of "B" MRP4 view :</u>
    - Discontinuation Indicator = 1
    - Effective-out date = 1st Nov'07
    - Follow-up Material = "C"
    <u>BOM of Parent "A" :</u>
    - Component "B" indicate discontinuation group "A1"
    - Add component "C" and indicate follow-up group "A1".
    <b>Thanks for your guidance !</b>

    Hello,
We are having the same issue: is a BOM for costing the only way to handle this ? Controlling dept. here fear they wouldn't be maintained as accurately as the production ones (and they are right). We were also thinking to set the phased out materials (B in your example) as cost irrelevant when you add to new material in the BOM...and start costing the father (A in your example) directly with the new component. I would appreciate a lot to hear other examples of dealing with this issue if anybody has.
    Thanks a lot,
    Olivier

  • Discontinuation indicator in Material Master

    Hello,
I am using discontinuation group concept in BOM which replace 1 old material with multiple folloup materials.
My system ( ECC5.0) does not display discontinuation indicator 2 ( discontinue group in BOM). As a workaround I am using discontinue indicator 1 in material master, which makes entry of atleast 1 folloup material in material master mandatory.
Does anyone know how to enable discontinue indicator 2 in material master?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hi,
The indicator 2 is not offered either in BOM or material master. It works as below:
Set the discontinuation indicator as 1 for the material to be discontinued in the material master along with other required details. Now in the BOM for the discontinued material, click on discontn & specify the follow-up group as say A1. Then specify follow-up group as A1 for materials which need to follow up this material.
Create a planned order & explode the BOM in the planned order, you will then notice the indicator 2 for the material which you discontinued in the material master & in BOM.
    Hope it clarifies your query.

  • Discontinuation process of the material master for archiving

    Hi,
The material(ex:100) has the stocks in the Inventory. There is a PO  with open quantity for the material(ex:100).In such case we can not archive the material.
So we have to do the discontinuation process. Is it right! or the discontinuation process is only for the retail industry (fashion).
Please let me know discontinuation process in detail.
Once the discontination process is done ,we can archive the material.
Note:I know the Archiving process using the Transaction SARA.I want to know only about the discontinuation process.
    thanks,
    sasi

    Hi Shankar,
Did you run MRP already, so that system can transfer the remaining dependent requirements (after available for planning stock of discontinued material is set to 0) to the follow up material?

  • Discontinuation data

    Hi,
I have one error getting during setting discontinuation indicator and follow-up material in MM.
I need to discontinue one material with other material as follow-up material. But when i am putting the other material as follow-up material it is giving me the error" The specified follow-up material results in recursiveness".
When i have analysed then what i found is , the follow-up material is already discontinued in other plant. But does it make any sense that if the material is discontinued in one plant , I can not use the same materil as follow-up material in other plant?
I hope that discontinuation of the material is at plant level not client level. Is it correct? if yes then why I am getting this error.
I have checked the BOM also there is no recursiveness in the BOM.
    Please resolve my problem.
    Regards
    Deepak Sharma

    Hi,
Thanks for response. But how can i resolve this issue as my one discontinued material in one plant can not be discontnued in the other plant. And follow-up material in one plant can be discontinued in other plant.
    Please advice.

  • What will happen if don't set follow-up material in material mas view MRP4

Client get the information that some materials will not manifacture until one date. After this date, client want this material can't create BOM or PO anymore.
I gave solution for set delete flag for this material so that when create BOM or PO error happens.
But client want to use discontinue material in material master view MRP4, so that he can enter the last date when this material is out of use.
Will discontinue material in material master view MRP4 can meet this requirement? enter discontinuation indicator and date then after this date will not create BOM or PO.

As per my understanding discontinuation is related only to MRP (how system handles requirements).
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/b1/c044d1439a11d189410000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
If you want to disallow the creation of BOM / PrdOrd / etc, you have to apply to the suggested material status control or to your own solution (marking the material for deletion), etc.
n my opinion discontinuation makes sense if the real situation is also discontinuation (you have a real follow-up material). In this case you can use it to manage the requirements properly.

  • Process Order is not picking the follow-up material

    Hi Gurus,
We have changed a BOM by discontinuing a component and giving a follow-up material with the valid from dates as 18/5/09.  and then MRP is run on that nignt  ( mrp job set to run daily in the back ground). and on 19/05/09 a Process Order is created from the planned orders genereated by the MRP run.
now, we found that the new componenet (follow-up) is not copied into the process order, but the old compomemt (discontinued) is removed.
MRP parameters are correctly defined (Planning mode is set to 2) .  Please let me know if we are missing anything.
    Thanks,
    N

    Hi
Pl ensure that the Following requirements have been met before you can use the discontinuation functionality:
    1) Both materials must be planned using MRP.
    2) The base unit of measure of the follow-up material must be the same as the base unit of measure of the discontinued material.
    3) You must enter discontinuation data for the discontinued item and follow-up data for the follow-up item.

  • Follow up Material (different BUoM)

    Dear Experts,
We have a discontinuation setup here.  The PM1 will be replaced by PM2.  PM1 (sticker) has PCE as BUoM, while PM2 (Tape) has ROL in BUoM.   I tried putting the material as Followup, but system would not allow since they both have different BUoM.
    Please help.  Thanks!

    Dear,
The base unit of measure of the follow-up material is the same as the base unit of measure of the discontinued material.
    But try this:
You can use follow-up setting (set PM2 as follow-up of PM1 in MRP 4 view of material master if this follow-up scenario is valid for all BOM) with discontinuation indicator '1', w/o effective-out date. In this case PM1's stock will run out (no PldOrd, PR, etc) will be created, and from the date, when PM1's stock runs out, MRP will calculate with PM2.
As I told you, according to my best knowledge, you cannot realize this with different base unit of measures. (you have to change the BUOM of one of the related material masters or create a new material master if you cannot cope with BUOM-change).
    Check this and revert back.

  • Material staging indicator not populating in prod order WM pick list item

    Hello,
I have an issue with material staging in an prod order
    1) PP-WM interface is activated
    2) Control cycle for material is created
    3) Production storage location is created for material
    4) storage type is 100 for production
    5) There is one discontinued material and also the follow up material
    6) stock of discontinued material is zero and requirement are passed to follow up material
When we confirm the order the stagging indicator for both follow up material as well as discontinued material automatically populates zero (Non relevence to pick list items) where as it should be one (1 - for pick list items).
One more issue user has manually inserted discontinued material as well as follow up material in production order change mode.
In the BOM of a main material both discontinued as well as follow up material is there with some quantity as a component.
For the same work center, control cycle , production storage location the indicator is populating.
These two material (discontinued as well as follow up) are appearing twice in the WM pick list screen where first two line items are OK and populating indicator "1". But in line item last and second last indicator is not there.
My question is why the stagging indicator is not automatically populating in the production order WM pick list screen in front of components.

Unfortunately, WM material staging via production orders is not possible
from the pull list.  Please see the long text of message RMPU 311
(WM material staging for production order reservation not possible):
"You cannot carry out a WM material provision for pick parts from
production order reservations in the pull list". The reasons for this
are cleary explained in the SAP on-line documentation via the
    following path :
Logistics -> Logistics Execution -> Warehouse Management Guide ->
Goods Issue -> Goods Issue for Production Supply ->
      Material Staging for Repetitive Manufacturing
See the following under the Selection heading :
The choice of the selection type influences which types of WM material
staging are supported in the pull list. However, the pick parts can be
staged via RS headers/planned orders but not with the current BOM
explosion. The release order parts, on the other hand, can also be
staged if the current BOM is used for calculating the dependent
    requirements.
WM material staging via production orders is not possible from the pull
    list.
I think you may try in CO02 or COR2 for production order or process order.
