Discontinuing unrecognized format message during import

Is there a way to turn off the message that occurs during import regarding "Unable to import ... unrecognized format"?
When I import multiple files or merge through iPhoto Library Manager, I usually do other things but when the message comes up approximately stating "Cannot import file because of unrecognized format", the process stops.
I would like to turn that message off so that the process will continue whether or not I am there watching it and will complete without my constant watching.
I would appreciate your suggestions and help.

How is this solved? I am getting the same message when trying to copy an album from another Mac. I can select the other Mac's iphoto library and see all photos, but when I try to copy the album to my Mac I get an error message that "the file could not be imported. (The file is an unrecognized format.)
They are all jpg files. All are readable. Both Macs are running iphoto 8.1.2. My Mac is 10.5.8 and the one I'm copying from is 10.6.6. I'm using IPLM 3.6.3.

  • IPhoto "unrecognized format" error when importing

    Looking for some help on a weird one here.
    I recently upgraded my Intel iMac to Snow Leopard and iPhoto '09 from Leopard and iPhoto '08. Recently, I've been getting an occasional error message when trying import images that have been scanned and placed in a folder in my Pictures folder.
    Scenario #1 - I tried to import a folder with 7 different PNG images in it. iPhoto started the import process and then brought up an error message stating "Unreadable Files: 6 The following files could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)." What I don't understand is that it imported one of the images. If it recognizes one PNG file, why not all of them? All were scanned at same time with same settings. I don't believe it's PNG specific and the next instance will explain why
    Scenario #2 - I tried to share some images out of my iPhoto '09 library with my wife who is running a MacBook w/ iPhoto '08. I dragged an event directly to my drop box folder. She launched iPhoto and tried to import those images. Of the 154 images (all JPG's), she kept getting an error message that 27 of them were an "unrecognized format".
    As an FYI...my existing iPhoto Library has 21,250 images in it. I was once told by an Apple Store employee that they have seen many times that iPhoto starts to act weird after a photo library reaches 20,000+ images. Not sure if that's true, but thought I'd mention it.
    Anyone have any ideas here? This is really frustrating because I have a lot of historical images I need to scan and import. I don't want to fight this problem through that entire process.
    Thanks in advance for the help and have a great day.
    Joe

    Hey there TD....sorry for delay, but I've been too tied up lately to try the new account idea. Going to do that later and thanks again for all of your help.
    With that said, thanks to all for the feedback and comments. There is some very interesting stuff going on here, but I don't believe my issue is solely related to B/W images. I believe there is some validity to that theory, but not solely. Of the original 7 images that I scanned in Image Capture, 6 of the 7 were B/W and the only one that successfully imported was a Color image. To dispute that theory, the 2nd scenario I mentioned above was all Color images that were originally imported from my Nikon D90 (RGB format). I was copying those images from one machine to another and then tried to import them when I got those images. Machine they came from was running iPhoto 09' and machine they were going to was running iPhoto 08'.
    I have gone back to scanning those B/W images in Epson Scan (finally got Epson to straighten that issue out). What I noticed during this last round is if I tried to import a large number of images, I'd get an error on a few of them. My work-around has been to only import 4 or 5 images at a time. Since doing that, I have had no issues with importing any of my B/W scans.
    Again, thanks to all for the help and I'll keep you posted if I notice anything else that may seem to contribute. Take care and have a great day.

  • That mi photos are in unrecognized format how to import them?

    hello
    I try to import some of my pictures but its show me that some of them are in unrecognized format,how can i do to import them?

    If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Error Message during Import of Photos into Movie????

    I am having problems importing photos into my movie. Once I have dragged the photo into the desired position in the clip viewer it comes up with an error message - "Error during Import - the file could not be imported (-33)"
    I am importing from an album in my iphoto with the Ken Burns Effect on. Even with the Ken Burns effect off, the same message appears
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    -33 means "directory full", which means there are too many files in a folder.
    iMovie supports up to 999 photos in the same project. If you have less, there is a problem with your hard drive. Boot from you OS X install CD/DVD and run Disk Utility to repair your hard drive.

  • Formatting messages during internationalization

    Hello all,
    I've been recently thrown a task in JSF and have very little JSF experience, so any help you might have with the following predicament would be greatly appreciated.
    I have the following html to localize:
    <b>Note</b>: Please login with your myGarmin account.</p>
    And I am very much restricted on how text must be presented.
    My resource bundle contains this name / value pair:
    myGarminLoginNote = Please login with your {0} account.
    And my code looks like this:
    <f:loadBundle basename="com.garmin.connect.user.Main" var="bundle_user_main" />
    <h:outputText style="font-weight: bold" value="#{bundle_user_main.note}"/>
    <h:outputFormat value="#{bundle_user_main.myGarminLoginNote}">
              <f:param value="myGarmin"/>
    </h:outputFormat>BUT myGarmin needs to be an html link. Nesting an h:outputLink into it seems the obvious answer but no permutations work quite right, and I can't find any documentation where just one word in a localized string is an html link.
    Can anyone out there help me with this? I would very much appreciate it.

    Thank you very much for this suggestion. It wasn't right for what I needed, but it did help me figure out an appropriate solution.
    My bundle was changed as such:
    myGarminLoginNote=Please login with your myGarmin account.
    where I made the url passed in the parameter, since that wouldn't actually change during language translation.
    My code then looks like this
         <h:outputFormat value="#{bundle_user_main.myGarminLoginNote}" escape="false">
              <f:param value="https://#{webConstants.MYGARMIN_SERVERNAME}"/>
         </h:outputFormat>So as you can see, I used the escape attribute of the outputFormat tag, so that I could still use parameters and have urls built with bundles.
    Thank you so much!

    The record is getting checked out in the start step. If I don't check out the record it's working fine.
    Any ideas?

    Michael

    Hi Michel,
    In the start step of Workflow there is an option as check out records(yes,no). select yes, when record will enter into the workflow it will get check out and no user will be able to modify that record throughout the workflow cycle.I you want that the record shoukd be modyfied at some step during workflow then you have to give rights (Join CheckOut )to the user of that Particular step.For That login with the user which is the Owner  of the workflow now rightclick onthe record or records and check in\out->Modify Join Permissions->either add a user or a role.This will allow that added user to Join check out and modify the Record(right clik on record ->join check out).Then that User will be able to modify the records.
    Reward if Helpfull.

  • Saying unrecognized format half way through download?

    I have just tried to upload 280 images from my canon camera but the last 68 says cannot import file is an unrecognized format but it imported all the ones before them, can anyone let me know why? Never had this problem before and been using the same camera and memory card for a while now?

    If TD's suggestion doesn't work you may have a corrupted area on the memory card.  Launch Image Capture (located in the Applications folder), connect your camera and see if you can upload the photos to a folder on your Desktop.  If you can see if those last 68 will import from there.
    If they do then reformat the memory card with the camera and try again after you take enough photos to fill the card as it is currently filled.
    If the photos won't import after getting them onto the Desktop you can try the following to see if they can be fixed:
    1 - download the Automator workflow app, Convert to JPG and Embed sRG Profile, from  Toad's Cellar.
    2 - uncompress it and drop a copy of one of the files on it.
    3 - see if the converted file will import into your library
    If the above works you can convert all the problem files and import them into iPhoto.

    You may be able to download and install the update from here: Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01
    If I upgrade to Yosemite will I be forced to go to the new Photos program
    No. After upgrading (and of course make a back up first) you will need to update iPhoto to v9.6.1 (you won't be able to do this prior to upgrading). Here's how:
    Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
    If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
    Install the App from the App Store.
    Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
    One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
    iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Photos is v1 of a new app, as yes it's not as mature as iPhoto. It uses a different technology for working with external editors. That requires Adobe to write an extension to let it hook into the new app. Not done yet, neither has anyone else.
    Going forward: iPhoto will run on OS 10.10., but there is no guarantee for subsequent versions of the OS. You might want to factor that into your anger term thinking.

    I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting.  When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format."  But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine.  Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting?  Wondering?

    What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
    Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.

  • IPhoto randomly not recognizing formats during import or transfer

    When importing photos, I've been getting an error message that says "Unreadable Files: XX
    The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format)" and gives their location.
    It will give this error on certain photos of the same format on the same camera, while importing other photos and mp4 movies from the same camera during the same import.
    This is happens on more than one camera.
    This problem also happens when importing photos moved from another iPhoto, (also '08). I would take photos from another iPhoto library, put them in a folder, transfer that folder to a sister machine, (my Macbook Pro to my family iMac), via my home wi-fi network, and drop that folder onto "photos" on the sidebar.
    This problem happens only on one iPhoto of one User on the same machine. I tested this - I switched Users, opened another iPhoto and imported the same photos that could not be imported before with mo problem.
    This problem started suddenly.
    In addition, when I was cleaning up photos and trying to put them into new EVENTS or creating new events from within another event, the photos in the new event would not show up, and I would get a question mark where the thumbnail was supposed to be. And clicking on the thumbnail would not open the photo. Those photos were visible in that iPhoto library until I created an event from the photos I selected.
    I was trying to make a "Master" family library of all our family photos in one location and had worked over the past year scanning photos and adding them to the library. Generally, the cameras would be downloaded into the Master and my work related photos would be transferred to my MBP and deleted. Sometimes, this would happen backwards, transferring to the Master.
    Could it be the size of the library?

    Dan
    you have mixed in a whole bunch of different issues with basically no details on any of them
    When importing photos, I've been getting an error message that says "Unreadable Files: XX
    The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format)" and gives their location.
    It will give this error on certain photos of the same format on the same camera, while importing other photos and mp4 movies from the same camera during the same import.
    This is happens on more than one camera.
    Are theses errors occurring while importing directly from a camera? Have you tried importing using a card reader? have you tried using image capture to move the photos to the desktop and then import them to iPhoto? Have the memory cards been recently formated?
    This problem also happens when importing photos moved from another iPhoto, (also '08). I would take photos from another iPhoto library, put them in a folder, transfer that folder to a sister machine, (my Macbook Pro to my family iMac), via my home wi-fi network, and drop that folder onto "photos" on the sidebar.
    I'm note sure what you are doing here - I am not aware of a "photos" entry except in the open (or upload) dialogue window and you can not import in that window. Try dropping the folder on the iPhoto icon in the Dock to import the photos. And if it not recommended that you go directly into the iPhoto library using the finder - it is very easy to corrupt your iPhoto library (which may be the source of several of your problems) - click here for discussion on how to correctly access our photos in the iPhoto library.
    This problem happens only on one iPhoto of one User on the same machine. I tested this - I switched Users, opened another iPhoto and imported the same photos that could not be imported before with mo problem.
    This shows that iPhoto is ok - it is a library problem
    This problem started suddenly.
    This would be true of a corrupt library - the problems would start when the library was corrupted.
    Again these are indication of a corrupt library
    I was trying to make a "Master" family library of all our family photos in one location and had worked over the past year scanning photos and adding them to the library. Generally, the cameras would be downloaded into the Master and my work related photos would be transferred to my MBP and deleted. Sometimes, this would happen backwards, transferring to the Master.
    How were you doing this?
    Could it be the size of the library?
    How big is it (details again are important) iPhoto is rated for 250,000 photos - do you have more than that?
    Basically my best guess is that you have a corrupt library - do you have a backup from before these issues started happening? If not (you should) then try rebuilding - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (Apple) keys and rebuild using the first three options
    Report back (with some details please)

  • Unable to import jpg file: Error: This file is in an unrecognized format.

    I have an iMac 2009 with Mavericks 10.9.3 and iPhoto 11 (v 9.5.1) and am getting an error message trying to load 1000 .jpg photos from ScanCafe.  The error message is: this file is in an unrecognized format.
    I have tried the following but am still unsuccesful:
    1) Upgraded all software
    2) Disk Utility repair permissions.
    3) Rebooted system.
    4) Deleted com.apple.iPhoto plist files.
    4) Tried to import the photos into a new test library within iphoto.
    Interestingly, my son's MacBook is able to load the photos into iphoto.  His ancient laptop is using Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and the same iPhoto 11 (9.5.1).  I have also tried to upload the file from his computer to mine, but the same "unrecognized format" error is received.
    Does anyone have any suggestion

    That's a problem with the format of the photos sent to you by ScanCafe.  The original poster in this topic contacted ScanCafe and had new disks sent to him which solved the problem:
    Re: ScanCafe jpeg photo file unrecognized format in iPhoto, not Preview
    I suggest you contact Carl at ScanCafe and get replacement disks with correctly formatted files.

  • Error messages during XML import of Project Pro 2010 files

    Hi folks,
    I'm trying to diagnose a couple of sick Project Pro 2010 files loaded from Project Server by saving them locally as XML files and then reimporting (not connected to the server during import).  The anomalous behavior exhibited by both files
    is that one takes 15 minutes to load from the server, while another takes over 20 minutes. These are not typical load times for this server.  In both cases, Project consumes about 25% of the CPU during the load process. There's little network I/O
    while this goes on, and when externally linked schedules are loaded to the cache, they load very quickly.  Other than the long load times, the schedules appear to be behave normally, except for some very odd print preview behaviors in one of the schedules
    that I asked about in a different thread (among other things, the default print preview start date is 17 years after the default finish date, and the finish date is about 11 years before the schedule actually starts).
    The questions I'm asking here are about errors I see when I try to import the files exported as XML, and whether they might provide any clues as to what's causing the load time issues.
    When attempting to import one of the files saved as XML, a pop-up appears that says, "The actual finish date is before some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. If  you continue with this operation, Project will truncate
    some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. To continue, click OK..."
    When attempting to import the other file saved as XML, I get a series of pop-ups identifying a series of tasks that say, "The timephased edit will cause 'Develop Requirements Review Meeting Mi...' to start before 'Conduct Requirements Review"
    finishes.  As a result the task link cannot be honored.  You can: () Continue. Keep the timephased edit and ignore the link.  () Cancel. Ignore the timephased edit.  (OK/Cancel/Help)".
    Interestingly, both files contain external Project Server predecessor / successor links.  In the case of the first file, the XML import just appears to strip those out.  In the case of the second file, I get a long series of pop-ups (with
    some buggy text inserts) in pairs.  The first message in the pair is typically "An import error occurred.  The element <PredecessorLink> in the <Task> element with <UID>=611 has invalid data.  Verify that the file
    name and path are correct, and then try again. (OK)", where the indicated UID varies. The second pop-up in the pair appears to have a buggy text constructor and looks like this, with "[stet]" indicating the apparent buggy text inserts,
    "An import error occurred.  The element [stet] Verify that the file name and path are correct, and then try again. [stet] in the 309 element with <UID>=7 has invalid data. [stet] ^4 (OK)"
    In the second pop-up of the pair, the "xyz element" varies, but the "<UID>=7" reference and "^4"  are consistent. In the XML, UID 7 appears to refer to a calendar, a task which includes a number
    of entries similar to:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>24</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-03T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-04T08:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
    ... and to an assignment:
    <Assignment>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <TaskUID>10</TaskUID>
    <ResourceUID>-65535</ResourceUID>
    <PercentWorkComplete>100</PercentWorkComplete>
    which includes blocks like:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>2</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-17T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-17T17:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
    Eventually, the second file also does load with no external file links indicated.
    Again, I'm just looking for anything that might be a clue to the long Project Server load times.
    Thanks in advance,
    LP
