Discount on Oracle Press Books

Hello, I'm a newly certified OCP. I am attempting to purchase a book but when I click the link the regular book price shows up. At no point am I asked for a special number or something, (which I don't have any way), it just proceeds to the checkout with the regular price. Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks a million.

Are you sure that there is supposed to be a discount? I don't remember that being a benefit when I got my OCP...

  • Oracle Press book gives incorrect information about when you are certiifed

    SQL Certified Expert Exam Gudie: ISBN: 978-0-07-161421-4
    Page: 12
    ... and I left (the testing center) a happy and Certified SQL Expert.
    THIS IS WRONG.
    When you leave the exam you receive a score report indicating you have passed the exam (I beleive subject to review).
    BUT
    You are not certified until either:
    - (1) you receive a success kit from Oracle or
    - (2) it is shown on the Oracle Certview Database.
    The distinction is really important as until that time you have agreed not to represent yourself as certified.
    This should have read something like .....
    ... and I left (the testing center) happy knowing that in a few weeks time my certification success should be confirmed in the Oracle Certview Database and my Certification success kits should arrive in a few weeks.
    I am forever screaming at people on the Oracle Forums not to represent themselves as certified until they get a success kit or see it on Certview and an Oracle Press book goes against this!!!!!!
    =:-O
    I know this is possibly apparent nit-picking in the case of this certification ... but it isn't. I've never heard of it happening, but the exam score can be revised until its confirmed (not that I've ever seen this happen ... and wold be almost impossible except for cheating). For instance the exam delivery software/configuration could glitch and deliver 1z0-051 questions instead of 1z0-047 invalidating ones result.  I know we all know this is impossible but would you be prepared to stake all your worldly goods that this has never happened and will never happen.
    .................................

    They should write a big "THIS IS A DRAMATIZATION" around it!
    LOL!

  • Which book topics to follow for exam 1Z0-007? Sybex or Oracle press?

    Hi, I am studying following both books for exam 1Z0-007 but sybex book by Chip Dawes covers more topics then oracle book. I am wondering if i still need to study those topics in sybex book which are not covered in oracle press book? For example DML Locks have been discussed in detail in sybex book as compare to oracle book and few topics are missing in oracle press and don't know if there will be any question in the exam from those topics?
    1) OCP Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL Exam Guide by Jason Couchman
    2) OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide by Chip Dawes, Biju Thomas
    Can anyone pls advise? Also i like to know if SelfTest software covers same questions which are in sybex and oracke press book? Because SelfTest software has same questions for microsoft exams which are already in the cd of microsoft official press books.
    Thanks

    The proper method is to look at the exam topics on [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_007] which is authorative.
    either the Sybex or Oracle Press book is authorative, and sometimes exam changes after these are printed (with revision from 9iR1 to9iR2 for example).
    In general you should probably have enough material in the two books given for this exam. Its probably cheaper to take the exam itself rather than buy additional Selftest questions. Your time may well be better spent practicing the things you have trouble with. Also be aware these books can have errors. And learn whichever is in either book even if it isnt examined. Its good for you!

  • Oracle 10g book 'A Beginners Guide'

    I am trying to work through this book from Oracle Press/McGraw-Hill/Osbourne ISBN 0-07-223078-9 but it does not come with the sample data. I have spoken to Oracle in Australia and they say it is not actually an Oracle book, just their name all over it. Does anyone have any idea on where I can get the sample data?
    TIA Regarsd Peter

    Hi Jens, what McGraw Hill could have put in their book somewhere (preferably at the start) was that the sample data they were using is from the 10g sample data base that you can chose to install at setup time. The next problem was that some of the tables are public synonyms so I was not necessarily able to see them as tables depending on whop I was logged on as. (as opposed to using desc) The download URL you pointed to is actually the sqls etc but anyway I have it figured and going like a rocket. Thanks again for your input and I hope it helps some others.
    Regards Peter.

  • Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Oracle Press).

    Hi, I am planning to appear in the 1Z0-051 test. and got the book (OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Oracle Press). this is an old copy, and does not have the CD with the sample exam.
    Are the questions on the exam CD same as at the end of the book, or are those different than those in the book. I don't want to buy the book, if I don't have to.

    Saying that you do not want to buy a book does not endear you to the auhors
    Nore that I am only a part author of that one, my colleague Roopesh was an equal (or greater) contributor.
    I have not gone through the material on the CD, but I was under the impression that it was the same as the printed content. Certainly what I have seen of all the illegal copies that criminals put up on web sites for thieves to download suggests that. THere are other sets of a few hundred questions on the McGraw-Hill website, I think if you can demonstrate that your copy is legal you will have access to them.
    Overall, I would make two suggestions. First, do not rely on dummy questions. They are not the real thing (which would be illegal) and all they do is lt you confirm that you have studied the relevant material. There is absolutely no point in repeating them unil you get all right, which is what some people do. Second, do not do that exam at all, it is out of date. Do the 1z0-061 exam insead. Roopesh's book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071820280 is excellent.

  • Lulu press book feedback ?

    We're looking to replace our Check Print function within Oracle Accounts Payable with an XML Publisher solution. We have no prior experience with it. Consultants will install it and then we'll be left to maintain it. The XML Publisher class and prerequisites are not currently on the schedule locally yet. I see Oracle has released these classes to self study CD:
    11i Oracle XML Publisher Fundamentals - Self-Study CD Course
    Oracle 11i e-Business Suite Essentials for Implementers Self-Study CD Course
    XML Programming Self-Study CD Course
    I also spotted the Lulu Press book released late December at Amazon:
    "BI Publisher for Oracle E-Business Suite" by LearnWorks.com, Roel Hogendoorn
    I'm not finding any reviews on the Lulu Press book yet. Any feedback here?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    The consultant might use Oracle Reports to generate the XML... might sway your decision slightly.
    Haven't read the Lulu book, but here's some additional pointers:
    1. Read BI Publisher Admin/Dev Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B40089_07/current/acrobat/120xdorg.pdf
    2. Read Reports Designer Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B40089_07/current/acrobat/120xdoig.pdf
    2. Try out a few things (download template, change, upload, test)
    3. Keep an eye on Tim Dexter's blog http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher and my blog http://garethroberts.blogspot.com ...

  • A wrong query on oracle press documentation

    Hi all,
    i've tried to solve on hr schema the following problem:
    Write a query to identify the highest salary paid in each country.
    To solve this problem on the material was writed the followiong query:
    select max(salary),country_id from
    (select salary,department_id,location_id,country_id from
    employees natural join departments natural join locations)
    group by country_id;
    that give me the following result:
    MAX(SALARY) CO
    6000 CA
    10000 UK
    17000 US
    But this is wrong, because there's no entry for country DE (german), on the other site, the max salary paid in CA is 13000 as the result of the followin query indicates:
    SQL> select max(salary),country_id from (
    2 select salary,d.department_id,l.location_id,country_id
    3 from employees e,departments d, locations l
    4 where
    5 e.department_id=d.department_id
    6 and
    7 d.location_id=l.location_id
    8 )
    9 group by country_id;
    MAX(SALARY) CO
    13000 CA
    10000 DE
    14000 UK
    24000 US
    My question is this one, am i in wrong or on the paper there was a wrong??
    help me if you can?I found the query on a book relased by oracle press!

    What I was trying to say is published books can have mistakes (which is called "Errata"). You may want to check the Errata (for your book) first to see if you can find any reference there. If you can't find and you are sure it is an error, you can inform the publisher about the same.

  • Oracle Reports Books

    I am in search of finding some Oracle Reports Books that are newer that 6i. I need to find one that supports Reports 9i or 10g. Is it possible to get any book like that and where do I find one like that? I have looked at the usual places like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.com but all I get is a book that is for the 6i software. I need something newer. Anybody got any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    As far as I know, there are not any new books, you could use this one which for forms 6/6i:
    Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide (Oracle Press) (Hardcover) by Jason S. Couchman,
    ISBN-10: 0072119756
    ISBN-13: 978-0072119756
    Or
    You can start with these:

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/techlisting10g.html

    I think there's enough clutter on this forum already without encouraging people to post eBay links here as well. If you don't know how to search eBay, there's plenty of advice out there.

  • Oracle Spatial book sample application

    Hi all,
    On Monday I received the Oracle Spatial book and I would like to post a topic about it. First of all I would like to congratulate the authors for their huge effort doing this excellent book. I think it will be very useful to the people that works with Spatial.

    I am using Java 2 Runtime Environment version 1.4.2_02 and I think I have correctly configured the shared libraries in the oc4j server (sdoapi.jar, sdonm.jar, ojdbc14.jar, etc.). Anyway, I think I will be missing something but I don't know what.
    I would be very grateful if somebody could help me.
    Juan M.

    Hi Juan
    Thanks for purchasing our book, and thanks also for the kind words.
    I think I know what that problem is.
    The application uses the network API. That API needs a database connection for the initial loading of the network. The connection used is provided by OC4J. This is done in the following code lines in the SampleApplication.jsp:
    // Get JDBC database connection
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("jdbc/"+dataSource.toLowerCase());
    Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
    // Load network
    net = NetworkManager.readNetwork(conn, networkName);
    In other words, for this to work, you need a datasource defined for OC4J, called "jdbc/spatial10g" (since dataSource is defined by default to be "SPATIAL10G".
    To define the datasource, refer to chapter 11, page 499, at the bottom of the page. You need to add the following to your data-sources.xml config file ($OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml):
    <data-source
    class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
    name="spatial10g"
    location="jdbc/spatial10gCore"
    xa-location="jdbc/xa/spatial10gXA"
    ejb-location="jdbc/spatial10g"
    connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    username="spatial"
    password="spatial"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:orcl101"
    inactivity-timeout="30"
    />
    (Adapt the url parameter to match your database definition)
    Thanks for pointing out this problem. We will update the errata page (http://www.apress.com/book/errataDisplay.html?bID=315&sID=2374) with clearer instructions.
    Albert Godfrind

  • 1Z0-051 exam (11gR2) - Oracle Press 11gR1

    The pages on the Oracle Web site state that the exam is based on the 11gR2. I am not sure when this changed as I am sure I checked in Nov 10 and it was 11gR1. There is currently no Oracle Press material to cover the most recient release of the database. If I study from the Oracle Press OCA 11g Exam Guide (1Z0-052) am I on safe ground? 11gR2 has some very interesting new features. Will these be included? The exam subject detail doesn't really go down the required level.
