Does anyone know if there are any current discounts or promo codes available for ordering photo books via iPhoto? I have a 100-page book I want to create for Christmas but cost is roughly $180. I can do the same book on another photo book website for half the cost but I really love the quality of the prints I get from Apple. HELP!!!!!!

Nearly automatically.
This will be a major upgrade, and Aperture will have to upgrade your library.
As a precaution, make sure you have a working backup of your library, and I'd keep a copy of the Aperture 2.1.4 Application installer as well.
Also it is recommended to repair the permissions and to rebuild the library, to make sure that the library has no corruptions before you upgrade.
Rename the Aperture Library to a name different from the default name before you upgrade.
Launch the new Aperture version by double clicking your Aperture library. Aperture will prompt you, that it is necessary to upgrade the library; let it run, this may take a while. And yes, you should find all your photos, projects, folders, etc. after the upgrade just as you imported and organized them.

Photo projects do not import properly from Elements to Premier Elements 10

I created two photo projects in Elements 10. All of the photos were taken from the same two cameras at roughly the same time in the same way. I put music to each project in Elements. I spent more than a few hours mating music to the still photos in both projects. I then imported both projects into Premnier Elements and combined them with a video project awaiting them there. One of the proejcts played in Premier exactly as it did in Elements. In the other project, however, the music was out of sync with the the photos; it started about two frames too early. Also at least one of the pictures had changed orientation. How do i get both photo projects to import properly?

What were the pixel x pixel dimensions of the Still Images?
What was the Frame Size, of the PrE Projects?
How do you plan on delivering the resultant files?

Do you mean to upload or use in another app or some such?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

The link for the word 'HERE' directs to a Evergreen School District page, which outside of Mobile Me and/or Aperture. Your school district network might be intercepting the request from Aperture and displaying the 'network authentication page' that you see, instead of the email. I would get with the IT department to see if they can help you get around this.
Have you also tried using the 'Tell a Friend' feature from another network location, like starbucks or your home?

How do I quick look up the date on a photo I have added to a photo project in iPhoto 11? If I hover long enough it sometimes appears.

There has to be a better and more efficient way to do this. This is quite frustrating. I separated all of my "chapters" for my book into different albums but then could only create the book from one of them. So, I took all the photos into an album and am now trying to separate chapters as I create them from scratch in my book project. That aside, it's been troublesome now as well as the past projects on how to quickly display the info (the date mainly) for the images included in the project menu on the right when I click "photos". I do get the info about 60-70% of the time by hovering for a quite lenghty period of time, but this is taking forever. Please.... quick solution! Thanks all!

Thanks Terence. I know about that in iPhoto already. I use it often. However, that is not an option when creating a book. When you click on the photos button in the bottom right corner when creating a book, it shows the photos but there is no "info" selection. The only way I find out the date is to drag the photo into the book, then go back and hover over the page number it was imported to and hope eventually the date shows up. If it's not the date for the chapter I wanted (as my chapters are divided by months), I then drag it back out and try again until I find a photo that does have that date. It's taken hours and is different from previous versions of iPhoto where I have created books before. This is iPhoto 11, trying to create a hard bound book.

Help with still photo project in premiere 11

I'm new to Premiere 11. I did a project using only stills and music from my macbook pro. The project is about 6.5 minutes long and uses only dissolves and a couple of exposure adjustments. The orange line runs across the top of the entire project so I thought it needed to be rendered. When I hit the render button, nothing happens. I tried to burn it to dvd as is and it burns to 99% and ejects. It will not play in a dvd player although it will play on the computer at a very low quality, poor resolution. Obviously I am missing something. Any ideas???...thanks

Depending on your computer resources and Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 or 8 64 bit as a 64 bit application, you may or may not be able to stretch the classic recommendations for sizing for photos for use in a project destined for DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc. Those recommendations are: for SD, pixel dimensions not to exceed 1000 x 750 pixels and for HD, pixel dimensions not to exceed about 2200 x 1238 pixels. But, since you are experiencing problems with the project that you now have in place, I would encourage you to go by the classical recommendation for photo sizing.
But keep this in mind...your photos are 3072 x 2048 (3:2) and your DVD-VIDEO is going to be 4:3 or 16:9. If it were just a matter of 4:3 to 4:3, then you would resize. But, when you are going from 3:2 to 4:3 or 16:9, you should consider cropping and resizing. Most of the programs offer batch resizing, some batch cropping and resizing. The free IrfanView program is often mentioned for batch cropping/resizing, while programs such as Photoshop Elements (Process Multiple Files) and Photoshop (Automate/Batch) are frequently mentioned for batch resizing.
When you are ready for Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc and are in the burn dialog (with your DVD disc in the burner tray) you will see in the Quality area Space Required and Bitrate information.
All this does throw into the mix what project preset ot use. In this instance, I would suggest that you set the project preset yourself via File Menu/New/Project. If you crop/resize the photos for DVD-VIDEO widescreen, then set the project preset yourself for NTSC (or PAL) DV Widescreen. If you crop/resize the photos for DVD-VIDEO standard, then set for NTSC (or PAL) DV Standard.

Transfering i-photo projects between macs

I created a project (albulm) on my laptop using i-photo when abroad & now want to finish it on my main mac. However I can't seem to transfer the project between the macs only the underlying images. Don't want to have to start the project again. Is there any solution?

The only way to move a print project is to move the Library that contains it.

I have saved a photo project as a pdf document. The album is no longer in iPhoto. Can I move the album back to iPhoto ?

How do I move a saved photo book project back into iPhoto. I saved my project as a pdf document before sending to Apple for publishing. Now it is not in iPhoto projects page. ??

sorry, no, you cannot import a pdf-file as a book project.
Have you hidden your books in iPhoto? What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you could try to hover with the mouse to the right of the "Projects" headline to reveal the Show/Hide button.

Help starting new Flash "photo" project

Hello, I am an occasional Flash user but a full time website
designer. I have a new project that requires me to learn a bit more
about using Flash. I am looking for advice on which way to proceed
with this since I am sure there are different avenues I could take.
The best way to describe what I want is to show you.
Basically my end product would look and feel much like what you see
at the top left of this website (

where large photos scroll and give headlines to news and or events
information. I like the way this works and the way the photos
continue to roll yet you can select any of the other headlines if
youlike. I am very impressed that there doesnt seem to be much
download time (very important of course)
Secondly, the following website (www.slate.com) gives what
seems like a simpler option to my above request and also enlists
another feature that I would like to incorporate below the main
photograph which allows you to flip through a reel of thumnails to
find a story or interest to click on.
So here I am with Flash MX and wondering what is the best way
to do something very similar to this. I am an .ASP developer using
SQL Server DB. Another big thing here is I would like to build an
admin where the client could update the photos, text, URL's,
display order, for bothof the above projects.
I know this is very broad, just looking for general
directions.

No photos in i-photo projects pane

I've created a couple of calendars on i-photo 08, but now that I want to create a new one I can't seem to access any photos at all in the project pane. All attempts to resolve this have failed,and all updates are installed. Any advice very welcome!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the following: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
If not try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Photo Projects in Aperture Have Disappeared after upgrading to Aperture 3.2.1

I am running Aperture 3.2.1 on a MacBookPro 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 and 4GB RAM. The machine was purchased in November 2010. I have no idea what has caused this and can only guess that it was caused by the software update. I can only view 1 album that had about 12 photos and now only has 3.
I had also created several smart albums that have disappeared.
I have never been able to figure out a similar problem of projects disappearing on my G5 mac using Aperture 1.5. However, in the case of the G5, I can still see the photos in the library but not in the named project.

I can't believe the solution was that simple! I was in a different library that I may have created intially. You have saved me from dispair. Thank you.

Dropping frames from photo project in FCE

Hi, I have a MBP with OS X 10.4.11 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w. 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
I pit together a 5 minute photo collage with music on FCE and it is dropping frames. I didn't think doing a simple project like this would be a problem on a Mac Book Pro. What settings should I look at in my system to make sure they are how they need to be. And, how do I restore the dropped frames to the video? Do I just re-insert the photos they were dropped out of?
Also, as you can see I'm a bit new to Mac and FCE. So far when I've run into problems this is the first place I come, I do a search and if that doesn't answer my question I will then post the question. Let me know if there are any other valuable resources (sites, discussion boards) for Mac/FCE newbies like myself. Thanks.

How do I retrieve earlier versions of a photo project that was changed as I was setting up front cover

As I was playing around on the front cover of an album re background colour etc I somehow changed the # of photos on the whole album( per page ) and now can't retrieve the earlier version of the album. The software has chosen several photos from each page and decided that it would be 4 / page .... hoping to be able to retrieve earlier version and rework it ???

Helping my dad with mega photo project....

He has about 35,000 pics from various trips over the years.
Trouble is, they're on cards, on his Mac (20,000 approx.) and on an external hardive too.
No surprise he's having problems with iPhoto now - confusing mess of events, duplicates, slow processing, etc
He's pretty clueless and I'm a Windows guy, but I said I'd try to help him out.
I think he mainly just wants to sort through everything, label, delete pics he doesn't like, and then eventually make slideshows with music.
So here's my suggestion:
Delete everything off his iPhoto/Mac.
Painstakingly transfer everything from cards onto mega external hardive.
Sort through everything, label, organize, delete etc off the external hardive.
And then begin to slowly load folder after after onto iPhoto in an organized, logical, manner.
What do you think?
Maybe for what he wants to do, iPhoto will only screw him up - once there are like 10,000+ photos crammed on there?

iPhoto 11 is good for 1,000, 000 images, earlier versions for 250k.
If space is a concern the Library can be on an external disk with no performance hit.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Of course you need a second drive to back it up.
