Discover TCP-IP connection loss using CompactRIO

I am looking for a way to detect when the
TCP-IP connection is lost in my FPGAcode on the compactRIO. I want the
FPGA to go into an "emergency" mode if the TCP-IP connection is lost to
the host computer. I have done some searching and come across the
Datalogging and Supervisory Control module for LabView but I am not
exactly sure if this is what I am looking for. I wanted to confirm that
I can do this with this module before purchasing it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

During development this happens to me all the time. Especially when timed loops are running. If the rio is spending all of it's time keeping the timed loops running, then the networking code may not execute for long periods of time (or at all). The trick is to get all the code running on the rio comfortable, with enough idle time to handle other tasks (like FTP..).
I'm not so sure what you mean about "unpredictable signals" though. One thing to keep in mind is that when you are running a vi on the rio through LabVIEW, there is overhead associated with updating the front panel on your PC. Alot of times, a deployed program will not run the same when connected to a host pc vs. running headless on the rio. I like to generate a text log file to let me know what's going on with the program when it is running headless.

  • Internet connection loss using Airport Extreme and Netgear DG843

    Hello,
I am accessing internet via a Netgear DG834 router (not wifi), connected to an Airport Extreme base station. Most of the time, I can access internet through the Wifi network of the AEB without any problem. But around once a day I am experiencing connection loss and the only way I found to restore it is to reset the Netgear Router by physically unplungging it.
Both the Netgear and the AEB have up to date firmware, so I suspect some kind of problem in my setup, as I am not an expert in setting up networks.
Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected to the AE (which is also a router if I understand correctly) could cause connection problems ?
I am at a loss, and do not even know how to describe the relevant informations of my current setup. If a kind soul could help me nonetheless, I would be very gratefull.

    Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

  • How to use WAN IP with port number in TCP Open Connection ?

I have a code to write / read a WiFi device server that gets DIO / AI data through a serial port. See attachment.
The device driver has a static IP of 192.168.1.10 and port 30704 for data stream. I have a router which links my laptop and this device driver in a LAN and all is fine.
But now I want to access my device driver through the internet. For this I already have done a port forwarding in my router to direct incoming requests on 30704 port to my device driver.
The issue : I cannot reach my device driver when I enter the WAN side IP of my router like 52.23.45.131 and the Port as 30704  in the TCP Open connection.
    Any suggestions ?

    Hello,
    without looking at your vi:
Did you try to reach your device from an external Computer?
Because NAT Translation cant be done (by most routers) if you try to reach yourself from the inside.
I am correct that the device created a virtual Networkcard on your computer at which you can communicate locally, right?
Did you try to use another computer in your Network, to reach your computer and the attached device?
If it is not possible, try to enable Routing at your computer.
If it is possible, your router is not forwarding (or you answered at with "no" at the first question or both).
If you are using an external computer and the networkinternal connection from another PC is working and you are 100% sure the router is set up correctly, try to disable all local firewalls and test again. (if it works you need to setup a proper fwrule).

    Hi ican,
I was looking at your VI's but I cannot seem to pinpoint exactly where you are using Windows Media Player.  In order to more quickly assist you, could you please recreate this issue more concisely in a smaller set of VIs.  Also, were you able to get sound when you did not use the TCP/IP connection and simply played the files in LabVIEW?
I noticed in a few places that you were using the Play Sound File.VI from the Graphics and Sounds palette.  Is that what you are refering to?  I noticed there that the file path that you have designated for the song is simply the song title.  Instead, this should be a path to where the song is located on your computer.
Also, if you are planning on using Windows Media Player, have you considered using the ActiveX commands for Windows Media Player?  Here are a few examples if you are unfamiliar with this functionality.
    Example 1 and Example 2.
    I hope this helps!

  • Communication with database using TCP sockets connection

    Hi all,
I am bit of a newbie when it comes to databases. In a project I realised over te passed few weeks, I communicated with an 11g database using an application I created with VS Express. It uses an ODBC connection. I now want to connect a PLC to the same database. These PLC's don't have the ability to install an ODBC client so I need something different.
I am easily able to open a TCP socket on the PLC and send data from there. I would like to know if I can start a TCP sockets connection with our 11g server and send all queries directly. The other (already suggested) option would be to have the PLC connect to a PC that reads this information and hands it over to the ODBC connector, but that would mean I need an extra PC just to 'translate'.
I have been searching these forums for socket, TCP and more and feel it is possible, but I need a good document as a reference to show/tell me how it's done.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marijn

The TCP/IP interface to Oracle is undocumented (and hugely complex anyway). You'll need to use a higher layer iterface or setup your own infrastructure.
We need more information about what is available to you inside the PLC.
Can you use Java? If so, perhaps use thin JDBC?
Can you sent HTTP requests? If so you could set up your own Web services to handle this.
If you can only use C or C++, Oracle has interfaces there too.. it's called OCI (Oracle Call Interface) and thats as close to the networking layer as you can get.
Finally if you can use .NET Oracle has a Fully Managed Oracle Data Provider for .NET that you could use.
But if all you can do is super low level network access and none of the above then you will need to set up an intermediary as you mentioned.

  • Calendar Crashes on connection loss.

Does anyone know why oracle calendar crashes when the connection to the calendar server is lost. This happens for both Mac and Windows. I am using calendar version 9.0.4.2

after much work I have discovered that this is due to power settings on the mac. if you don't turn off the hardrive it seems to work better. This however doesn't explain the corruption issues due to connection loss.

  • The TCP/IP connection does not closed after a VISA close

I am using the VISA functions to communicate with a Sorenson SGA power supply from a Windows XP computer.  I have the VISA TCPIP Resource defined in MAX and use this alias name in the VISAResourceName for the input to the VISA Open.  Then I write a SCPI command, such as *IDN?, and read the repsonse.  Then I close the VISA session.  When I look at the TCP statistics using the netstat -n command, I get the following response:
Proto           Local Address                 Foreign Address    State
    TCP            10.10.10.9:3881              10.10.10.1:111       TIME_WAIT
    TCP            10.10.10.9:3882              10.10.10.1:111       TIME_WAIT
If I query the ID again, I get 2 more TCP connections with different local ports numbers.  Every time I perform the query, I get 2 more TCP port connections at different local ports.  It takes about 1 minute for the TIME_WAIT's to time out.  If I query the Sorenson enough, I can fill up my allowable local port connections.
    1)  Why doesn't the TCP connections go away after the VISA Close?
    2) Should I be opening and closing the VISA session every time I want to talk to the Sorenson?
    3) What does the VISAResourceName control or constant actual do to resolve the alias into a IP?
This Sorenson power supply does not seem to be very quick to repsond to TCP requests.  If I set the timeout on the VISA Open to anything less the 100ms, I cannot get a session open every time.  It will fail about 50% of the time.
Has anyone had experince talking to the Sorenson power Supplies using VISA TCPIP?
    Thanks,
    Julia

    Hi Julia,
Let me try answering your questions here.
    1) I'm actually currently looking into this to see if this is expected behavior, and I'll definitely post back to let you know what I find.
    2) You do not need to close a VISA session everytime you want to communicate with the device, you can leave the same session open and keep using that session, instead closing it out at the end.
    3) The VISA aliases and what they correspond to are stored in a visaconf.ini file. There is more information about this file and where it is located on your hard disk in this KnowledgeBase article here. This visaconf.ini file is checked to see what the actual resources being looked up are.
Let me know if I answered your questions, I will write back with more information on question 1.

  • Setting up a VISA for a TCP/IP connection

I am trying to write a program in LabVIEW that will allow me to take data from my LeCroy Wavejet 354 and display it in a LabVIEW interface.  I have installed LeCroy's VICP passport.  I have no problems pinging the device so I know my ethernet connection to the computer is good.  It is not clear as to how I can use VISA to establish the desired connection for TCP/IP connections. In MAX, the remote systems function doesn't detect the o-scope's IP address.  I also tried creating a new device under devices and interfaces in MAX and after "create new" it gave me no option to create anything.   Do you have an example VI that can help me see how VISA can be used to establish this connection or know of some other way I could get this to work?  Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi BYULab,
Alan from LeCroy Tech Support here...    Unfortunately, the "Accepted Solution" isn't correct.
When using the VICP Passport, you cannot create a TCP/IP resource in MAX for the scope. You can create an alias in MAX via the VISA Options... but it isn't necessary at all.   In fact, you don't need to do *anything* in MAX to connect to the scope.
To connect to the scope, simply enter into the VISA Resource control the following string:  VICP::<ip address> (example: VICP::100.100.100.1)
    I've attached a screenshot...

  • Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss

I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
    1x Windows 7
    4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
    What have I tried:
    Scanning for viruses.
    Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
    Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
    Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
    Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
    Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem?

So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?
    TASK MANAGER
The 2 disconnected pc's ping screens:

  • Java.sql.SQLException: The TCP/IP connection to the host  has failed.

Hello. I hope you had a happy new year! Now its back to work.
I am having a problem connecting to a remote SQL Server DB. I am using NetBeans 5.5 and the latest J2EE. I am able to see the tables in the IDE and bind objects to data. But when I run it it gets this:
java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection. Cause: Connection could not be allocated because: The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information
    at com.sun.gjc.spi.DataSource.getConnection(DataSource.java:100)

    at com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl.execute(CachedRowSetXImpl.java:1428)
I checked the SQL Server Configuration manager on that machine and TCP/IP connections are allowed. What else could be wrong?
    Thank You.

"Connection refused" means that the client sends a packet saying "I would like to connect to port number NNNN please" to the server computer, and the server computer's OS sends the reply "there is no process listening to that port on the network interface you are using".
The database server is not running, or running but not listening to TCP/IP connections, or at a different port from what you think, or listening to only selected network interfaces (it is possible for a process to listen to a specific interface or a wildcard for all interfaces). A less likely scenario is that a firewall is sending the "connection refused" message.
First aid check list for "connection refused":
    - Check host name in connect string.
    - Check port number in connect string.
    - Try numeric IP address of server host in connect string, in case name server is hosed.
    - Are there any firewalls between client and server blocking the port.
    - Check that the db server is running.
    - Check that the db server is listening to the port. On the server, try: "telnet localhost the-port-number". Or "netstat -an", there should be a listening entry for the port. You need to configure the database to accept TCP connections; the server documentation or google should explain how.
    - Try "telnet server-host-name the-port-number" from the client, to see if firewalls are blocking it.
    - If "telnet" fails: try telnet with the numeric ip address.
    - If "telnet" fails: does it fail immediately or after an obvious timeout? How long is the timeout?
    - Does the server respond to "ping serverhost" or "telnet serverhost" or "ssh serverhost"?

  • Report (release 6.0.8.15.0) failure on tcp/ip connection to personal oracle 8.1.5

hi,how can i resolve this problem?
i use personal oracle with a tcp/ip connection and if i run a
report(developed with report builder oracle) i receive a

    has no problem.
the only different is a client's call with tns (the listner is

thank and sorry for my bad english

    Hi, how are you?
I read your file. On my computer, I got the same problem. First I installed Personal Oracle 8.15 version under window 98. The oracle home is e:\orale\ora81. Then I installed Form 8i in the orale home e:\oracle\ora. After installation, there are two SQLPLUS. One is under ora81 and another is ora. The one which is in e:\oracle\ora81 is working and it can bring up the database. Another one and Forms don't work. They can not connect to the local database. It means my client which is under e:\oracle\ora can't connect to my server which is under e:\oracle\ora81. I think I shoud set up the connection in tnsnames.ora by using Net8 Easy Config. I did it. It failed. Can you help me?
    Thanks.

No, you shouldn't have to to.
If you have Personal Oraacle 8 running properly on your PC, then you can just connect to the database from Developer V6 using your normal username/password. For example, if you log on to SQLPLUS as scott/tiger, then the same will work for your forms and reports. You don't even need to enter a connect string. I have it working OK on a Windows '98 PC, with Personal Oracle 8i, and Forms v6i.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?

    Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet  I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Activating a vi on a remote computer (and transferring the data back) via a TCP/IP connection

    Hi all,
I need some help in creating a vi that can be activated remotely using a TCP/IP connection. Can this be done. If it can, I have a vi (that would be on the remote computer) that manipulates the data as required and saves the data file. While the connection is open, I need to retrieve the data file from the remote computer. Can anybody help, I am running labview 6.
    Thanks
    Ridge

    Ridge,
This is what the "i" in LabVIEW 6i stands for. Internet applications (collection of data through IP) was a basis for the release of 6i. This is not only a capability, but is built in as easy to do.
Unfortunately, I have little experience in this arena. I have built TCP/IP client server relationships, but never remotely controlled a VI over IP, so I can't advise you.
    I would suggest the following:
Look up remote VIs on NI's website, specifically in Application Notes, and examples/downloads.
Check the examples that ship with LabVIEW.
Look for other documentation within LabVIEW (search through help).
Contact your local sales rep for some assistance.
I do remember seeing some kind of demo about this a long time ago, and remember
it being extremely easy. However; I never had use for it, so I never did anything with it.
You should have the ability to get started very quickly.
Good luck, and let us know how you do.

    Hi Howard,
is this your first usage of BWA? Normally this config is done by the initial installation normally from your HW vendor.
Please use the python standalone tool trexadmin to setup this RFC connection:
    1. Log on with the user <sapsid>adm.
    2. Enter the following:
    cd <TREX_DIR>
    ./TREXAdmin.sh
Go to the tab 'Connectivity' and create a new RFC connection.
    Regards,
    Jens
