Discoverability in iBookstore from the iPad?

I've been doing a bit of research for the past few weeks about marketing titles published to the iBookstore.  I'm a bit puzzled by what appears to be an "invitation only" model to discoverability on the iBookstore when browsing from the iPad.  I'm pretty sure that I'm missing something here, so any tips would be appreciated!
First, I can't find ANY way to browse the full set of titles in the iBookstore beyond the first 100 or so in the various curated categories that Apple chooses to create and maintain.  For example "Beautiful Children's Books",  "Books About Film", etc.  All of these catebories appear to be populated at Apple's discretion.
When drilling down into a top-level category, such as Fiction, Nonfiction, Children & Teens, etc., once again the only groupings appear to be curated and hand-picked sub-categories.
It's not clear to me whether even the few "What's Hot" type categories are algorithmic or hand-selected.
From iTunes on a Mac/PC, things are a better.  The full set of categories is reachable and is sorted by default using some formula that I'm assuming represents popularity.  You can also sort by title.
Since most people who want to read a book on an iPad use the iPad interface to the iBookstore, what options are there to a) begging Apple to include you in a curated cateogry or b) searching for the book by its title?
Thanks for any help that you can give!

I have the same or at least similar issue.  If I'm looking for a new book in a given category, say mysteries and thrillers, I can see a list of 100 "new release" books that seem to be curated picks by iBooks.  No where can I see a list of all new releases, so unless I know the title of a newly released book, it's unlikely I will com across it by just browsing iBooks.  Compare this to Amazon where I can view every single kindle book released in the last 30 days, 90 days or ever.  Kindle makes it much easier to browse all titles available.  They also provide subcategories, which helps with browsing. So the question(s) in all of this are:
1.  Is there a way to see all new releases based on publication date, not just the 100 books placed on the seemingly curated list?
2.  Is there a way to just browse all books, not just new releases or a curated subsets, without searching by specific author or knowing the book title?  In other words, can I sort all books in a category based on ratings/reviews, pub date, best selling, etc?
Right now, I find myself browsing books on the amazon kindle site then coming to iBooks to look up/buy the book because the browsing options in iBooks are so limited.  I feel like I'm only seeing a small subset of the books available on iBooks and as a result, missing out on some good reads and/or recent releases by my favorite authors because they don't make the curated lists.  Maybe I should just go back to using theKindle app for iPad.

How do I sync ibooks from the ipad mini to the iphone 4?
    Thank you

If they are iTunes purchases and they are still in the store then you should be able to re-download them on your phone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app. If they are not iTunes purchases, or are no longer in the store, then you can copy them from your iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that should copy non-iTunes purchased books/PDFs from the iBooks app as well as ibooks) and you can then sync them to your phone.
If you then want to keep collections and bookmarks in-line between the two devices then use Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections 'on' ('Sync Collections'  won't copy books/PDFs between the devices, it will just put those that are already on both devices in the same collection)

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

  • Sending encrypted emails from the iPad is not working

I can't get sending encrypted emails working on my iPad3 running iOS 8.0.2
Let me explain what I did:
    1. I created S/MIME certificates for 2 email addresses on my iMac in Keychain Access. One email address exists only on the iMac the other only on the iPad.
    2. I set "When using this certificate" to "Always Trust" in both certificates.
    3. I exported 1 S/MIME certificate (p12) and installed it on the iPad. Then I deleted this certificate and its private&public keys in iMac Keychain Access
    4. I exchanged public certificates between the 2 devices. I installed one certificate in iMac Keychain Access and the other in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles.
    5. On the iMac in the iPad certificate I set "When using this certificate" to "Always Trust"
    6. I tested whether I can send and receive signed and/or encrypted emails
    Results:
    1. From the iMac I can send signed and/or encrypted emails to the iPad.
On the iPad I can read the encrypted emails. The signature is not trusted
    2. On the iPad I can send signed messages to the iMac. On the iMac the signature is trusted.
I cannot send encrypted emails from the iPad to the iMac. The iPad doesn't know about the public certificate in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles
So much for the straight forward part. Now it gets a bit more complicated and confusing.
    1. I deleted the iMac certificate in the iPad/Settings/General/Profiles. Then in iPad Mail I opened the signed mail coming from the iMac.
I viewed the untrusted certificate in Mail and installed it. From this point on all signed emails from the iMac are trusted.
Strangely the by this method installed certificate doesn't appear in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles.
Furthermore I still cannot send encrypted messages to the iMac. This certificate installation seems to be used only to check trust worthiness of the signature.
Installing on top the iMac public certificate in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles doesn't enable to send encrypted messages from the iPad either.
To be sure that this problem relates to the iPad certificate management and is not related to an error by me I did the following:
    1. I transferred a p12 file for a certificate that I created in my iMac to a PC running Windows7.
    2. I transferred a p12 file plus its public key (.pem) that I created in my iMac to another iMac into Keychain Access. (I have not tested if the pem is needed).
    3. On the other iMac and the PC I made sure that the certificates are trusted.
On the PC that means in the Certificate Manager the p12 needs to be in the "Personal" folder and in the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" folder.
The public keys need to be in the "Trusted People" folder and the "Other People" folder. One can just copy/paste the certificates.
    4. In both cases I deleted the certificate and public/private keys on my iMac.
    5. I exchanged public certificates between the devices.
    6. I tested exchanging signed and/or encrypted emails between my iMac and the PC and my iMac and the other iMac.
    Result:
    1. I can send signed and/or encrypted emails to the other iMac and the PC
    2. The PC and the other iMac trust the signature from my iMac and can read the encrypted emails
    3. My iMac can read encrypted emails from the PC and the other iMac
    4. My iMac trusts emails with signatures from the PC and the other iMac.
Everything is working as it should.
After the above test I wanted to see whether I can set up encrypted email exchange between the iPad and the PC. Strangely iPad Mail recognized the public certificate from the PC installed in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles and allowed me to send an encrypted email to the PC. However, on the PC I was unable to read the encrypted email. And the other way around, encrypted emails send from the PC to the iPad cannot be read on the iPad.
My conclusion from all this testing is that iPad mail encryption is still "under construction".

I was able to resolve the above described problem to some degree. Setting up sending and receiving encrypted emails between iOS and OSX I have working.
What is still not working is reading encrypted emails on the iPad/iOS8 received from Windows 7 PC. And sending encrypted emails to Windows 7 PC.
The details about how I solved part of the problem are described here.

  • How do I delete just songs from the iPad?

In an attempt to move my iTunes library, I have now gotten way out of whack with my music.  I deleted all songs from iTunes and re-imported (sacrificing my play counts, etc., but I didn't know what else to do), and that works, but it leaves my iPad in a state of confusion.  So I would like to remove all music from the iPad and just start over and re-sync, but I am having no luck with that.
    Here are things I've tried:
Re-syncing after re-importing the library to iTunes.  After that, I can see a full list of songs on the iPad, but 80% of them are grayed out and not playable.
Deleted all the iTunes library files (the itdb's, the itl's and the xml) so that when iTunes opened, it would give me the fresh screen and show no music.  Then I synced the iPad--it told me it was going to erase everything on the iPad b/c it was synced to a different library (presumably my old library), and I said okay, and it synced, and somehow there are still about 200 songs on there.  No idea how those songs "survived," but they did.
I tried going to Settings -> General, and I see an option for "Reset All Settings", and right under it "Erase All Content and Settings," but inexplicably, there is no option for "Erase All Content and Leave the Settings Alone!"  I'm not sure why of those three things, they think the first two are important to users, and the last one isn't.
Ideally I would not like to reset my iPad, as I don't want to lose all my app data and that kind of thing--anybody know an easy way just to wipe all song media from the iPad?  Thanks!

    Hello valsaladevi,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
You can use these steps to delete songs from the Music app on your iPad:
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    Tap the Music app.
    Tap the Songs category.
Swipe left over the song you want to delete.
    Tap Delete.

  • Ibooks crashes on one pdf but I cannot delete this from the ipad (?)

I am experienceing constant crashes when I switch to PDF's in Ibooks. After very few seconds it just terminates.
This started when I chose to open a pdf sent in email with Ibooks (this has worked before).
Ipad is upgraded to lates iOS w/ patches.
Now I cannot seem to delete the pdf file from the ipad which I suspect is the reson for these crashes.
I have tried to delete it from itunes.
I have tried to de-select it from sync.
I have tried to delete ibooks and reinstall it both directly from iStore to the app and from iTunes.
    Still the same problem.
The pdf file re-appears in iBooks every time.....
It seems that the only option is to delete the pdf from within iBooks.
But this I cannot do while it crashes.
How can I get this pdf file out of the ipad ?
Need help as now the iBooks app is totally useles.
    -Bernt

Yes, that is what I decided on as well.
First I made sure I had a recent backup of the iPad.
Then I went to the iPad's configuration menu and selected to reset and delete all content.
Then I moved the suspected pdf's out of the itune folder, removed them from itune "Books" and is currently in the prosess of restoring the ipad from a previous backup.
I will post here if this "solved" the problem.

The devices are not designed for transfer of that kind.  Use Photo Stream as suggested by another poster, or transfer photos to your computer (a good idea anyway since they will be lost if your device needs to be reset), then use iTunes to sync them to the other devices.

  • How can i print the calender from the ipad?

How can i print my calender from the ipad with a windows laptop?

you can try to take a snap shot of the screen. to do this open your calendar, hold down the home key and quickly press & release the power button, release the home button the same as the power button..... if you do it right the screen will flash and you will hear a camera shutter sound. the snap shot will then show up in your pictures under the camera roll section. at that point you can print it to a wifi printer, or just email it you and print it out from your computer..... i don't know if there is any other way to "print" the calendar.
hope this helps in some way.

  • I have the kindle app on my iPad.  I downloaded a kindle version of a songbook. I would like to print out a few pages of the music.  I cannot download the file to my computer and cannot print from the iPad as the page format does not allow it.

How can I print out a few pages of a kindle ebook (music) from my iPad.
How can I download this book to my iMac from the iPad.  It is NOT in my e books library, but I can only access it from my kindle app.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

One work around is, if the Kindle app allows, make a screen cap of the page and print that.
Hold down the sleep and home keys and relase them together....kinda like you'd press the shutter of a camera, a joint quick down and up
You'll see a white flash and hear a shutter sound. Then look in your photos app and you'll see the images. You can print them just like you'd print a photo.
