Discoverer 10g and Oracle Financials

I am a newbie. Does Discoverer run against Oracle Financials - Project Accounting in particular?
Thanks,
Cherie Machler

Hi,
Yes, Discoverer can run against Oracle Financials. You need to create a Discoverer EUL (End User Layer) that maps to the underlying Oracle financials tables and views and gives a business interpretation of the data in Oracle Financials. You can either use the EUL that is shipped with Oracle Financials Intelligence, create your own or do a bit of both.

  • Launch Discoverer 10g from Oracle Applications Menu

Please provide steps to launch Discoverer 10g from Oracle applications menu.
    Thanks in advance.
    suresh

    Hi,
    Follow these steps....
The process is in 3 stages _(stage 1 will be done only once for all the reports)._
    Stage 1:
Set the application discoverer relevant parameters.
    Perform this stage only once.
1.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
1.2 Choose menu 'Profile' and then submenu 'System'.
1.3 Find the desired profile by filling 'Icx%Discoverer%' and press Find button.
1.4 Fill the fields (only the values) as described in the table of values bellow.
    Parameter Value
ICX: Discoverer Default End User Layer Schema Prefix your eul name without the suffix (_US).
note that if you have several invs it can be diffrent between them.
ICX: Discoverer End User Layer Language Override American English
    ICX: Discoverer Launcher http://your_server_name:7777/discoverer/viewer?Connect=[APPS_SECURE]
ICX: Discoverer Release 10 or any other that you are using
    ICX: Discoverer Viewer Launcher http://your_server_name:7777/discoverer/viewer?Connect=[APPS_SECURE]
ICX: Discoverer use Viewer Yes (or not if you want plus to open - but change the viewer to plus in the link as well - the previos parameter)
Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 1 Ends.
    Stage 2:
Build an oracle application function for each discoverer report.
Perform this stage for each report.
2.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
2.2 Choose menu 'Application' and then submenu 'Function'.
2.3 Fill needed values in each tab by the next instructions (function values)
2.3.1 Description tab – fill the function, function user name and the description. Notice that the function value should be without spaces.
2.3.2 Properties tab – fill the:
Function with the same name you have choose in the previous tab,
    Type with 'SSWA plsql function',
Maintenance Mode Support with 'None' (Default value),
Context Dependence with 'Responsibility' (Default value).
    2.3.3 Form tab- fill the:
Function with the same name you have choose in the previous tab,
Form & Application fields leave empty,
Parameters – there are two options available:
1st Leave it empty – will cause the function to open the discoverer all reports web page and user will have to choose a specific report from the list .
2nd Fill it with value '=workbook=name of the workbook' but without spaces, convert the spaces (if there are any) from the workbook name to + (plus) sign.
For example '=workbook=BI+SERVICE+Performance' represents the string for the 'BI SERVICE Performance' report.
Note: you can also send parameters to the report but since almost all the parameters have a default value (accept from dates) it's not necessary.
2.3.4 Web HTML tab – fill the HTML call with ' OracleOASIS.RunDiscoverer'.
Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 2 Ends.
    Stage 3:
Build an oracle application menu or submenu for each discoverer report that represented by the function you has created in stage 2.
Perform this stage for each pair - responsibility + report/function.
3.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
3.2 Choose menu 'Security' and then submenu 'Responsibility' and then submenu 'Define'.
3.3 Locate the needed menu by the responsibility that you want to enable her to use the report – of course that the report should be granted for the responsibility via discoverer mechanism as well.
Do it by clicking on the flashlight that located in the left upper corner and find the needed responsibility.
3.4 Find the needed responsibility and select her via next screen (Don't forget to use % as wildcards)-choose by double click on her
3.5 Copy the menu name that related to the responsibility you have choose from the menu field located in the next screen and close the window.
3.6 From the navigator screen choose menu 'Application' and then submenu 'Menu'.
3.7 Locate the menu that you've copied in 3.5 (with the flashlight and the find screen, double click on the menu name – similar to 3.3 and 3.4) via next screen.
3.8 Press on the 'add record' sign (+) that located in the right upper corner of the screen (Do it after the mouse sign and focus is in the rows as you can see the oval mark).
3.9 Fill the prompt with what you want the user to see in the menu that will activate the report link and after fill the user function name as you have build her in stage 2 (Don't forget to save it).
Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 3 Ends.

What exactly are you intending to do to Oracle Apps ? You suggest you are a developer, but Oracle Apps are already developed, by Oracle. Do you want to develop peripheral applications, or become an administrator, or what ?

  • Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Client 9i together

Hi, I've been lost some nights in this problem, in my job I will need migrate my Oracle Database 10g for a new computer, on the other hand, there is a software in this computer wrote in Visual Basic and this running only Oracle 9i Client.
Is it possible configure my new server for run Oracle Database 10g and Oracle 9i Client together?
    Thanks!
    Emerson

You can certainly use an Oracle 9i client to connect to an Oracle 10g database. Technically, you may have to apply the 9.2.0.4 patchset to the Oracle client to be completely supported, but that may not be strictly necessary.
You can also have both a 10g database and a 9i client installed on the same machine in different Oracle Homes. You may have some issues on Windows, however, if you are using software that is not multi-home compliant (i.e. the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle) or if you call Oracle command-line utilities (exp, imp, etc) without explicitly setting the PATH first.

  • Will Oracle 10g and Oracle XE happily co-exist on same machine?

I can't seem to find anything specifically saying that Oracle 10g and Oracle XE can be installed on the same Windows machine. The only reason I'd want to do this is that I originally had the free version on my Windows machine. The uninstaller nevers seems to run a complete job and always leaves bits over. So I'd like to install Oracle 10g alongside Oracle XE.
Wondered if anybody had done this already?

to uninstall Oracle, do the following:
    1. Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
    2. Run regedit.exe and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key. This contains registry entires for all Oracle products.
Delete any references to Oracle services left behind in the following part of the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*
It should be pretty obvious which ones relate to Oracle.
    4. Reboot your machine.
    5. Delete the "C:\Oracle" directory, or whatever directory is your ORACLE_BASE.
    6. Delete the "C:\Program Files\Oracle" directory.
    7. Empty the contents of your "c:\temp" directory.
    8. Empty your recycle bin.
At this point your machine will be as clean of Oracle components as it can be.
Remember, manually editing your registry can be very destructive and force an OS reinstall so only do it as a last resort.

  • Differences between  Oracle Discoverer 10g and 11g (EBS & Desktop)

We are in the process of upgrading from Oracle Discoverer 10g testing to Oracle Discoverer 11g.
We have had several requests (from functional users) for documentation that might reflect the changes in this release level. Does anyone have relevant documentation that might help explain what has changed so that they can be better prepared.

We are in the process of going from 10 desktop to 11 plus. I do not like it as other end-users I have talked to don't either. In desktop, I could have multiple reports open at one time, move tabs from one report to another so I wouldn't have to rebuild the report again. Also, there are times I have 3 or more sessions of desktop running with multiple reports running in them. In plus, I am limited to one session and one report. That slows down productivity big time. In desktop, exporting crosstabs to excel is more user friendly than plus. For desktop, it will fill in the cells below with the data above it if it changes. In plus, it looks like a pivot table. I have read other posts on how to work around that, but not always functional. Using Dense_Rank() works sometimes depending on how the report is written. IT is researching another way but haven't heard back from the consultants. Or, I will have to modify all my excel files with formulas to do that for me. Also in desktop, I can select all and copy paste the results into excel and all data comes in. The row and column headers, page items and even the title section will paste into excel. Plus only gives you the data, no row or column headers. So I have to export it every time I need the data. I have formatted excel files that all I need to do is copy paste and data flows beautifully. As for organizing and saving reports, desktop is much better. I can save reports out on our network under different folders so I can find them faster by topic. Granted, if that directory is an open one, anyone can change/delete it. In plus, the only advantage of saving it on the database is I can sort and search for reports or users. If you make any changes in plus and then walk away from your desk, plus will shut down after a certain time period. If you didn't save it, you have to start over. Don't know if this is something IT can fix???
As we see it, plus is a step back in technology. I hope someone can change that opinion. Don't know if we are not getting the best support from whoever is working with us (Oracle or 3rd party) or we are missing something???? If so, please share.
    Thanks.

  • Discoverer 10g and Java 7- Anyone Document Incompatibilities

    Hi All,
To provide a clearer picture to my IT steering committee, I am documenting Discoverer 10g / Java 7 incompatibilities.  As a company we are on Java 6 because of our Oracle Apps 12.1.3 implementation (we are not ready yet to make the jump to Java 7 on the apps side).
Anyways, I have done some documentation of issues associated with Java 7 and Discoverer 10g, but I wanted to know if others have done some documentation.
    Here is my short list:
-Can not enter text in the "name contains:" field associated with the "Open Workbook from Database" dialog box.
-Can not edit column headings while editing workbooks.
Any other issues people have noticed would be helpful.  I need to build a case for migrating to Discoverer 11g (which is compatible with Java 7).
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    M. Schroeder,
    Thanks for sharing your situation.
Of course, trying to use Java 6 on the Discoverer Application Server side and Java 7 on the client side with Plus does not seem/sound like the smartest thing for us to being doing.  Certainly, this is not certified.
Our intentions are to eventually migrate to OBIEE with OBIA, but a migration will be a large project and take some time.  There is hope that nothing needs to be done and everything will be okay in the interim.

  • Differences between Hyperion consolidation and Oracle Financials Consolidat

I'm looking for a document- recommendations etc. explaining why using Hyperion Consolidations versus Oracle Financials Consolidation ?
    Thanks
    Marcel

    Genie,
I agree that a case is made on how well these two ERPs solve the day to day tasks before a company chooses one of these two. But my question is aimed at finance to begin with. You are going to need a general ledger for any company or government regardless of ERP. And how well you can drive the ledger to map your business is the key here.
The way ledger is built is around a business area ,company or country and is very tighly designed in SAP. I would like to know if there is any equivalent of the configuration items in ORACLE. I am more interested in terminology of ORACLE.
    For example ,
    <u><b><u><b>SAP ====> ORACLE</b></u>
    <u><b>GL ==> Book In ORACLE</b></u>
    <b><u>Document Number ===> Invoice Number</u></b>
<b><u>Posting Period in SAP ==> Posting period In ORACLE</b></u></u></b>
Most of the terms are finance terms , so they are common ( eg. an account number is an account number in ORACLE and SAP ) between two systems. I am interested in any specific thing that is available in ORACLE but not in SAP and  vice verse.
thanks for the link you have provided.
    Its very useful.

  • Slow Problems with Oracle Forms 10g and Oracle Database 11g

Hi, I wonder if there is a compatibility problem between Version 10.1.2.0.2 32 Oracle Forms and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production. This is because my application runs correctly on a version of Oracle Database 10g, and when we migrated the database to an Oracle Database 11g, slowness problems came out.
    Thanks.

We have the same issue happening with our custom forms and with some of the standard forms in EBSO. So far we have found that the form invoking a view causes ridiculous slowness in opening the form (40 mins). Using a table access has shortened the open time significantly. At this time Oracle DBAs at OOD have no clear idea why it is happening.
we are on 11.1 database with 11.5 EBSO

  • Discoverer 10g and Cognos

Does anybody have any document outlining differences between capabilities between discoverer and cognos?
How effecting reporting tool is discoverer when it comes to OLTP reporting?
    Thanks

You should check with your Oracle or Cognos sales consultant. Depending on whom you ask you will get an answer weighted towards one vendor or the other :)
What do you mean by reporting? Discoverer is a tool that you can use for both adhoc querying as well as reporting. It also offers integrated reporting against both relational and OLAP data sources, leverages the Oracle database's analytic and BI platform capabilities, is integrated with the Oracle Application Server, offers a quick and easy way to create BI dashboards in Oracle Portal, is the only BI tool to be certified against and work with the the Oracle eBusiness Suite security model out of the box, and lots more...
Of course, if enterprise reporting capabilities are all you are looking for, then I would suggest you take a look at Oracle Reports and the just announced Oracle XML Publisher.
You should also check out product demos, white papers, presentations, documentations, etc... - all available on OTN. Some links are provided below. Finally, you could even try out the software - free (under a developer license), which is more than can be said about Cognos or other vendors that are too scared of letting people even try out their software without first purchasing it.
