Discoverer 4i Problem

Dear Oracle Profesionals,
I have performance problem on My Discoverer4i(Oracle Database 8.1.7/ Win NT )when running my reports. I have about a million of records to retrieve. It needs 20 minutes or more to run so I use the Summarize table.
My question is, can I get the data on realtime transaction ? since I think It needs about 4 hours to refreshing the data but my user need it uptodate on seconds.
So I need your advice guys ? How to get the best performance with this Discoverer ?
thank you,
[email protected]

My suggestion would be to index the table and analysis it! This will speed up the system alot. Additionally you you could get speed increases by partitioning the table into section... Basicly you need to Tune the Database and the Query.

  • Discoverer schedule problem

I have a workbook that retrieves the data without problems when I run on Discover Desktop (in 11 minutes).
But, when I schedule this workbook, it run indefinitely.
A DBA checked once this query on database, and returned that the time remain was 2565 hours(!).
Have anyone faced such a problem?

  • Discoverer Plus - Problem with Page Orientation when printing pdf's

    Hi,
When printing pdf's in Disco Plus I have a problem:
My workbooks are a mixture of landscape and portrait pages.
I am printing the entire workbook and then using cutepdf to produce a pdf.
If I print to paper I get the correct landscape/portrait settings.
If I print to pdf then landscape pages appear vertically when I view on screen so that the text is running from bottom to top of the page.
So it is picking up th portrait/landscape settings from the individual worksheets but cutepdf has not realised that the pages are landscape so they appear on the screen vertically.
This was not a problem on discoverer desktop so I am confident that this is not a problem with cutepdf.
    Any thoughts?
    Justin

    Thanks 2257648922,
    Version details are as follows:

  • Discoverer Viewer problem

    Dears ,
When I am trying to edit a worksheet , it is unable to edit it because the folder that this sheet use appears as active but you can't expand its items and if you choose to select the all folder items then the error "Model manipulation via stale objects ..." , and the selected items in the "Available item pane" were hidden (don't appear) only the Business Area name appaer.
    BUT
when I log on using the EUL Owner user then no problem , but the eul owner user use another BA , but bare in mind that the folder the report use exists in two BA's.
SO Plz I tried to solve this problem using different way but no solution until now, so please could you help me if you have any answer?
    Thank you very much!!

    Thank You for your reply,
Yes the user can run the report and get the result without any problem. and I like to add a note in that the problem doesn't exist on Oracle Discoverer Desktop.
I don't know what is the difference between the folder is shared or copied, but the scenario I did that the Folder was created in one business area and then added to another business area using Manage Folder in the Administration Tool.
Thank You again for your cooporation.

  • BI Discoverer install problem

I am a new Oracle user, and so admit ignorance to a high degree. There is a 10g database instance to which I would like to connect via Discoverer. Since it's a prototype database, I have downloaded the BI 10g files, and am attempting to install them (Win2k machine). I am getting the error "The environment variable, TNS_ADMIN has been set to a directory which does not exist. Remove this environment variable and restart the install."
The directory in which the TNSNAMES, etc, is located is a real directory (I am currently successfully using Discoverer 4 to connect to older databases).
Does anyone know if I'm simply finding a problem with having an older version of Discoverer installed?
    Any help is appreciated.

You increase the swap memory or virtual memory by going to
Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab, Click on performance settings>Advanced tab, You see the under Virtual memory
    Total paging file... 1536.
You can click change button and increase that within the limits depending on RAM you have.

  • Discoverer Export Problem - Column headers dropped & row data used instead

In Discoverer 9i, when I export the data for a 12 month period from one of my workbooks to Excel 2002, three of the twelve column headers are dropped in the spreadsheet and one piece of row data is used as a column header instead. The total number of records exported for the workbook is 33586 which is below the export limit for Excel. This problem does not happen when 11 months of data (28174 rows) is exported out to Excel. Any idea what may be causing this?
    Regards,

    pallen,
As usual the Express VI has its limitations.  It seems to be setup for a 2D array of info in this case.  The best way I've found is to name range in template and use the Excel Easy Table.vi.

  • Discoverer plus Problem

    Hai Friends...
    I installed oracle 9ias 1.0.2.2 on 8.1.6 database.
I am unable to run the discovere plus.
    I got the following error.
Unable to connect to the discoverer has detected a conflict
    loading java class
    oracle/discover/corba/_st_DCILocator.
    I wouid appreciate any help.
    Cheers
    Gopi

    Gopi:
When you completed the 9iAS installation, did you register the
    Discoverer Collector, Preferences, and Session?
On a Windows NT / 2K environment, you can do this by launching:
Programs -> Oracle Discoverer Server 4i Setup -> Register
    Preferences.
Do this for each as listed above. The lack of a session object
may be the source of your viewer problem as well.

1.On client machine intall discoverer desktop
    2.copy the tnsname.ora file in %BI_HOME%/network/admin Directory
3.copy the applicaitons .dbc file in %BI_HOME%/discoverer/secure directory. If the directory doesn't exist then create it.
4.Create an evironment parameter FND_SECURE with value pointing to the %BI_HOME%/discoverer/secure path.
5.In discoverer desktop change connection options to Oracle applciations and then provide username/password/sid and check the Oracle applications checkbox and connect to database.

  • Discoverer Authentication Problem

How can I set the rights to each users in Discoverer when:
    * the users with their own privileges are managed inside a custom made application;
    * and the Oracle database roles, users are not used ?
Many thanks for your precious help.
    Michel

I am not 100% what is the Oracle official view on this is?
I have overcome the problem by creating roles in database to mirror application roles then assigned the roles to BI users.

  • Discoverer Administration Problem

    Hi Everyone,
I am wondering whether we can change the color/ font of items with in a folder in a Business Area using Discoverer Administrative tool or Is there any way to differentiate the items with in a folder into sub-categories?
Please Help me in this regards.
    Thanks..
    Venu

    Hi Venu
There is no way to use different fonts or colors within the Admin tool. My recommended approach, and one that we teach in training, is to use what we call Item Separators. These are basically items that group other items below them.
Item separators are used to break up and group sets of items together. These help the users to understand about the different data sets that are in our folders. We can also use the Description field of these items to provide more generic help about how to use the folder.
To insert an item separator, use this workflow:
    1. Right-click on the name of the folder into which you want to insert an item separator.
    2. From the pop-up menu, select New Item - Discoverer opens the New Calculation dialog box.
    3. Give the item a Name such as: Main Section
    4. In Calculation use NULL.
    5. Click OK to complete the calculation.
    6. Right-click on the item and rename it like this: **** M a i n S e c t i o n ****
    7. Move the item to its correct position.
Note: we use double-spacing between the letters in a word, and triple-spacing between words.
This is a trick from mainframe days when there were no fonts or colors. Using double or triple-spacing fools the eye of the user into thinking that a bigger font has been used. Try it for yourself. You will be amazed at the effect and will wonder why you never did this before.
By the way, a similar technique can be used for grouping folders. A separator folder is really an empty folder that is being used to group sets of folders together. Users cannot select anything from these folders, but that is exactly what we want.
To create a separator folder separator, use the following workflow:
    1. Right-click on the name of the business area into which you want to insert a separator folder separator.
    2. From the pop-up menu, select New Folder. Discoverer now adds a new folder, called NewFolder1, to the bottom of the list of folders. The identifier for this new folder will also be NEWFOLDER1, all in upper case.
    3. Using the Folder Properties dialog box, give the folder a new name and a new identifier. Use something like *** P O M e t r i c s *** for the name and PO_METRICS for the identifier. (make sure the identifier is in uppercase with no spaces
    4. Move the separator folder to its new position.
By the way, if you have a copy of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook you will find these tips on pages 642 and 645 complete with illustrations.
    I hope this helps
    Regards
    Michael

  • URGENT: Discoverer Setup problem

We have 9ias 1.0.2.2.2 installed on our server. We want to be able to access Discoverer from the web (URL). THe first question is what is the process to set this up? Is there any other component that needs to be installed/Configured? Anything needs to be done in the 9iAS?
However I launced Discoverer from the browser as per the manual, with the URL
    http://machinename:7777/discwb4/html/english/ms_ie/start_ie.htm
but it gives me the error
"End User Layer Library Version 4.1.37.0.0.0 requires End User Layer Tables of at least version 4.1.11.0.0.0"
I have no clue as to what this is. Please help.

    I haven't worked with 9iAS or Discoverer 9i,
but the error you're getting sounds like you need to upgrade your EUL
from version 4.1.37 to 4.1.44. Read the installation documentation
again for Discoverer 9i... I'm pretty sure you have to be up to
version 4.1.44 with the desktop software first.
    Good luck,
    John Hagel

  • Discoverer installation problem

Hi I want to install Discoverer 4.1.37 on my PC which already has oracle 9i database. I choose the default exisiting oracle home for discoverer. But I am getting error saying that C:\oracle\ora92 is already used as oracle home for Oracle Beta 82 and cant be used as oracle home for 'nt'.
I have windows XP operating system. And I am assuming that this Discoverer is only for NT OS. Is this true? If so where can I get Discoverer download for XP which will work on Oracle 9i database.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Hope you installed java jdk before started installing discoverer.
If not we need to install jdk 1.4 or higher versions it contains jre etc.

  • Discoverer 2000 : Problem in sorting date field on report

    Hello,
I am not able to sort on date field on report
    it is giving error as
    ( illegal operation).

    Thanks Savitha.
I found one more way of making that code work, just want to share this.
If we add the following statement, the same code works without having to add the time part along with date.
    "DBMS_XMLSave.setdateformat(updctx, 'yyyy-MM-dd');"
note the format is case sensitive. Instead of MM, if you give 'mm' it won't work, it uses java format.
