when I try to install Discoverer Administrator in Oracle Home (client 9i) , it can not be installed because show following message:You should install Discoverer Administrator in a new ORACLE_HOME (not in an existing one). Please try this and see if it works.
If I try to install in other Home (with other directory), it indicates that it can only be installed in Oracle Home. I have trying to install manully each product but it fail when I try to install Discoverer Admin. You should not be prompted to install this tool in an existing ORACLE_HOME -- What is the message you are getting?
Thanks,

I have a Oracle 8i on my NT 2000 machine and try to add Discoverer Admin 3.1 on top of it. I tried couple times and created 3 Oracle Homes and still get error message "Oracle Discoverer does not support multiple installations, .... It can be installed on 'OraHome81'". As OraHome81 is for the server, what can I do now? Is there any tech note talking about Installation of Discoverer and how to be installed with Oracle Server. Thanks in advance.

There is a technical Note: 123675.1 available via Oracle Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) that describes how to install Discoverer where you have multiple Oracle homes.

  • Discoverer Admin installation error

    Hi,
I am getting this error when installing Discoverer Admin (Business Intelligence Tools 10g 10.1.2.0.0) on my win XP sp1 workstation. It says that it cannot install onto an existing oracle home where oracle database 9.0 or higher database is installed. I do have 9i client and 10g client installed on my workstation. Is there anyway around this without having to uninstall everything?
    Thanks,

    Hey.
I finally solved my own problem. It's not exactly the most elegant way, but I had to trick the installer into thinking this was a fresh install. under c:\program files\oracle\inventory there is a install.platform file. I changed the value in it to some other version from 912. The oui then complained that the inventory could not be found and would not move forward. I then went back and changed the value back to 912 and then clicked next in the oui again. This time it thought this was a fresh installation and I was able to specify another inventory directory. which I did. After that, the install went through. But I did not exit the oui when I modified the file.
    Hope this helps others.
    Thanks,

  • Multiple oracle homes installation

i have installed oracle 9i database on single sever where 8i is residing using multiple oracle homes. After installation some folders and files related to 9i created in 8i home directory(eg:9i admin related folder create in 8i admin folder).but i dont want to create like that.is there any way to create all files related to 9i should reside on that 9i home directory only?

    You didn't specified the OS.
Assume that your OS is Unix-like (Solaris, Linux) and your user is oracle.
The answer is very simple. Use different enviroments.
create in home directory (oracle user) two files:
    1. .ora_8i
    2. .ora_9i
All enviroment variables related for 8i database (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH etc.) are defined in .ora _8i and all variables for 9i are defined in .ora_9i.
Now, you want working with 8i so you need apply 8i enviroment. To do that simply execute following from shell ". ~/.ora_8i". Now you decided working with 9i so simply execute the ". ~/.ora_9i" from shell.
For installation use the same way. So before you run ./runInstaller load the apropriate enviroment.

  • Guidelines regarding directory structure for multiple Oracle homes on Unix!

    Hi All,
Are there any guidelines published regarding directory structures that should be defined while using multiple Oracle homes on Unix/Linux box?
I am looking for guidelines regarding admin and oradata folders so that we dont accidentally mess up with the DB contents with a wrong Oracle home.
Its a development server with 8i and 10g. 11g might also get loaded on the same server in future.
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards

    Thanks Maran.
I have already checked many installation guides before posting here. All of them mention about creating folders like /admin or /oradata on various mount points but none of the naming conventions really indicate whether it is a 8i database or a 10g database.
This is required when you are having multiple Oracle installations under /opt and databases are running from different mount points.

  • Multiple Oracle home

    Hi ,
I have some doubt which needs to be cleared.
If I will install multiple oracle home like ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/asm
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/crs
Now in this when I will set export ORACLE_HOME then which version will be picked up.
Is ORAENV isgoing to come into picture.
Please throw some light on it.

You have installed your oracle product (db,application server) using one of os user like oracle, appl, oraprod ect. When you log in to your OS by using OS user then .profile file executed automatically to export necessary environmental variables. You did not mention your OS. Normally you will find it to your OS user home directory. You can edit this file to set your desired ORACLE_HOME.

    Asif KabirAsif,
Your advice to hard code the Oracle environment directly into the profile is poorly thought out. And a direct carry over of 'worst practices' unfortunately taught in some Oracle related classes.
The OP did correctly identify oraenv (as described in the "Administrator's Reference for UNIX-Based Operating Systems" at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=4) as the preferred solution. Putting THAT into the profile (using ORAENV_ASK as described in the manual) is OK.
I'll leave you to figure out why the difference - I've posted many times about that in these forums.

  • Multiple Oracle Homes

    Hi everybody,
I have Oracle 9i installed on my Windows machine.
I installed Oracle Developer Suite, but could not login due to TNS errors.
I have a little idea of what the problem is. We need to edit TNSNAMES.ORA file so that it could resolve the service name.
Can u please help me out in configuring Developer Suite to work properly?
    Thanks.
    -- Kishore.

Not quite sure why your title is Multiple Oracle Homes. Can you connect to SQLPLUS or any other product in the suite? Is it just Designer you are having hassles with? Do you have the database on the same machine and can you connect to that? If you are successful at connecting to SQLPLUS, then take a look at the tnsnames file in the Database network /admin directories.
There was a bug at one point where the tnsnames would fail if the network connect string was between 184 and 192 characters in length. You may be running into this. In which case if your tnsnames.ora contains
    (CONNECT_DATA =(SID = <SID>), you can change this to use (CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME= <SID>)

  • Discoverer Admin exit without message!

In the step 2 of Discoverer Admin Load Wizard (when creating EUL)i can select database link previous created. But after link is selected Discoverer Administrator exits without message.
Discoverer version is 9.0.2.0.0 and database link is betwen two 9.2.0.1.0 databases (from DB1 to DB2). Discoverer is placed at server mashine where DB1 is installed. Load wizard with database link with database version 7.2 works OK.

  • Re-scheduling workbooks from Discoverer Admin

    Hi All,
We have Discoverer integrated with Oracle Applications.
When logging into Discoverer Admin as EUL owner, it is possible to re-schedule workbooks scheduled by other users by navigating to 'Tools->Manage Scheduled Workbooks...' and clicking on the 'Edit' button for a workbook. It allows to change date/time of when the report should be executed and successfully updates the Discoverer meta-data tables in the EUL. However, the dbms job associated with the workbook is not re-scheduled, so the report is executed at the original time.
I am not very familiar with the Discoverer, but my feeling is that it is not properly configured in our installation. Any advise on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Denis

    Hi,
You can move the workbooks by using a Discoverer export/import from Administrator.

  • Can multiple installs of BIPE share same repository?

    Hello folks,
I work with EnterpriseOne (E1) and in its latest foundation Oracle released what is called Data Access Driver that allows JDBC connection between BI Publisher Enterprise and EnterpriseOne databases. One characteristic of this JDBC driver is that its initialization files are copied to the BIPE directory structure. The driver allows BIPE to connect to only one EnterpriseOne data source. As far as I know to allow BIPE to connect to a different E1 data source, one would need a separate BIPE install altogether.
Question: Is it possible to have multiple installs of BIPE and have them share the SAME report repository and users?
    Thanks
    -James Owens

    Hi Tim,
When E1 Data Access Driver (DAD) is installed in BIPE, .jar and .ini files are copied to "x:\OraHome_BIT\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\WEB-INF\lib" folder. In tests, I found that in order for BIPE to connect to E1 data sources using DAD, there must be a match between E1 environment settings in one of these ini files (jdbj.ini) and the JDBC connection defined in BIPE. When there is a mismatch the following error will appear in BIPE console window:
    "WARNING url mismatchjdbc:oracle:enterpriseone://JDV812"
and DAD debug log will show:
"Requesting a spec in path code and using serialized objects build for path code ...
Unable to get initialize UserSession java.lang.NullPointerException"
In none of my tests I was able to connect to an E1 datasource different than the one set in the jdbj.ini file stored in .../WEB-INF/lib. So even if I create a new JDBC connection in BIPE pointing to a different E1 datasource (environment in E1 lingo), that connection would still rely on the Data Access Driver that reads its configuration from the same jdbj.ini where there will be an environment mismatch.

  • Shared cluster with multiple oracle homes

    Hi All,
    I got to build a shared oracle RAC cluster with multiple oracle home installation ( 10g R1 , 10g R2 , and 11g R1 & 2).
Of course the cluster ware will be version 11.2, but I wondered if there is any dependency on how I install oracle software? Do I have to start with 10g installation first? can I do 11g and then 10g?
Is there anything I should be aware of ?

I installed Oracle Application Server Enterprise which includes AS, Database, OID, Web Cache, SSO etc. and OSES on the same machine. Everything works except I think the windows version of OSES and AS need some patches so the crawler isn't working right. Everything does, however, install and run. I think Oracle develops everything in Linux (rumors of them now using Solaris) so on Linux everything should go smoother.

  • Multiple Middleware Homes and Node Managers on the same machine.

    Hi Experts,
Before I explain the issue we are facing, I would like to explain the environment.
    - Single Machine.
    - Multiple Weblgoic homes (I mean two weblogic software installations).
    C:\Oracle\MiddlewareODS
    C:\Oracle\MiddlewareIAM
    - MiddlewareODS has a domain called "ODSDomain" with the maanged servers ods and oif.
    - MiddlewareIAM has a domain called "IAMDoain" with the managed server oim, oam, oaam, and oif.
Our requirement is to have seperate nodemanager for each domain and they belong to different weblogic software homes.
    - MiddlewareODS node manager port is 5556
    - MiddlewareIAM node manager port is 5557
Though we configured different port for each node manager , we are not able to start both the node managers. We are able start only one node manager at a time.
My question is, Can each weblogic home has it's own node manager on the same machine ?
    Thanks

Nodemanagers are not domain specific. Thus you can have one nodemanager in one machine and have multiple servers from multiple domains managed on that machine via this single node manager. You just need to update your nodemanager.domains properties file to have all the domains which your single nodemanager would listen to.

  • Oracle XE (Windows) Multiple Oracle Homes

I have a question in regards to Oracle Express Edition and how it maintains Oracle Home.
I currently have multiple Oracle Homes on my machine. In order for apps like SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer to see the correct TNSNAMES entries, I usually have to use the Home Selector from the Installation tools to properly obtain the correct tnsnames entries in the dropdowns.
Now, I'm a Linux DBA, not to keen on Oracle environments for Windows. But, when I installed Oracle Express Edition, none of my Applications SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer recognize the tnsnames entries for my environment. From the 9i Home Selector I see that it is in the correct environment I want it to use. But it seems Express has overriden somehow.
Can anyone lead me into the right direction to switch between my XE Environment to my 9i environments?
    Thanks.

I did it too, but the beta over beta software is just too dangerous.. you never know what is crashing your system :)

  • Multiple oracle homes problem

    Hi!
I have multiple oracle homes on my machine: Oracle9DB, DevsuiteHome_1 and now as I have just installed Oracle Discoverer 10g....BIToolsHome_1.
The problem is ever since I installed Discoverer, nothing is working......
    Can anyone help?
    Best regards,
    Aparna

    Dear Rod,
What I mean by nothing is working is I cannot connect to the dataases. I get 'No listener' error message.
Oracle Hone selector gives the following message:
The is only one Oracle Home defined on this machine and so this tool cannot be used to change your primary Oracle home.
I tried to start the listener service, however, it says:
Listener service started and then stopped.
Is there any solution to this problem?
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Multiple oracle homes on Windows and the "Path" environment variable

    Hi There,
We have a windows 2003 database server that has few databases running oracle 10.2.0.3. We are installing oracle 11.2.0.1 on the box as well, and we were wondering, which binaries should come 1st in the path environment variable? and how does this effect the working oracle environment?
Going to the oracle home selector and swapping the 2 oracle homes around will have the same effect on the windows path variable - which will treat the 1st oracle home to be the default home - are there any general rules reg. multiple oracle homes on a server and the default home?
Should the earlier version of oracle always proceed the newer one (i.e. c:\oracle\product\10.2.0.3\bin;c:\oracle\product\11.2.0.1\bin) or should the newer oracle version comes 1st as newer oracle versions are usually backward compatible?
    Your thoughts are highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    That isn't going to happen.
If you install 11.2 last it will appear in the PATH variable first
If you don't want that you need to Oracle Home Selector utility in the Installer to change it.
Obviously, as usual, all of this is documented.
