Discoverer Configuration

Hi,
I have a fresh installation of 11.5.10.2
My customer wants Discoverer 10g to be configured on separate machine and integrated with ebiz.
I have not worked on discoverer earlier but have very little knowledge abt discover.
Does 11.5.10.2 come with discoverer 4i ? How do we upgrade it to 10g ?

Does 11.5.10.2 come with discoverer 4i ?Yes
How do we upgrade it to 10g ?Note: 233436.1 - Installing Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i

  • Discoverer configuration questions

I am a newbie to Discoverer.
    I have completed installing 9iAS ( 10222) on a system where a 8.1.7 database also exists.
( In different OraHomes, as advised)
Apache is up and running. Though discoverer viewer and plus screens
are available from browser, login is not possible. I am running
Apache as root from port 80
I would like to know what configuration changes should be made to
login from these these screens ?
Any advise or pointer to documents would be helpful
1)Change To Listener?( 8.1.7 listener is running)
    2)Change To database
    3) Port change ?
    4)env settings change?
And how is the database connect string defined in login screen
    SID ?
    SID:port?
    machinename:SID:port ?
    TIA

    Hi Bob
    2. The version of Discoverer Administrator and Desktop that is available with the preview release of Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4) is stable and of high quality. We do not expect to make any changes in the product between now and production release.
If you are using Discoverer 9.0.2.54.x you will not need an EUL upgrade to use Discoverer 9.0.4.
The version number will not change between the preview release and the production release.

  • Discoverer Viewer Configuration File

    Hi,
There is a scenario where in, most of the users use Discoverer viewer reports from the same login ID, They do changes and save the Workbook. Now when a new user logins he see the changes saved by the previous user . Now we dont want to allow the users to save changes and want to change the config setting so that no user can do any changes.
As per my unerstanding, one way of doing so it by login to application server and Uncheck the preference check box and save the changes. Doing this the preference tab will not be visible to any user.
Want to know is there any other way by which preference tab can be Disabled but still can be seen on the right corner of the viewer page?
Or is there a way we can change the configuration setting in any of the config file of discoverer viewer so that users are not able to change the setting...
    Discoverer version is 10g.
    Thank You.
    Regards,
    Anuj Malhotra

    Hi Michael,
The Scenario is like, most of the users use Viewer only to access reports.
The main aim right now is to some how not allow users to change the settings whcih they change using the preference tab or presentation options.
I checked it the config document of Discoverer viewer and found:
The Steps to remove Preference tab or presentation options in Oracle Application Server Discoverer Configuration Guide
    10g (9.0.4) are as follows:
    1. Open the ui_config.xml file in a text editor or XML editor
    2. Locate the <appearance> tag in the file
change the value of the display_preferences_link tag to false
change the value of the display_presentation_options_link tag to false
    3. Save the ui_config.file
But I didnt not find the steps to remove the preference tab or presentation option using Configuration.xml file in Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Configuration Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1 ).
It was mentioned that to remove the presentation option in 10g version we need to login to Oracle Application server and uncheck the preference tab Option.
Want to know is that the only way of removing presentation options or preference tab from 10g Version or something can be done from configuration.xml file also.

    Anuj Malhotra.

  • Discoverer Plus associate with the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure

    Hi Everyone,
I just install the Oracle BI (v 10.1.2.0.2) into my 2003 server so I could use the Discoverer Plus and Viewer. This is a stand alone BI installation (I guess, I have little knowledge about Discoverer plus or Oracle AS).
My question is how could I connect the Discoverer plus to my ODS database, so I could create report or view report.
and where to find the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure (or How do I know I have the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure?)
I read the Oracle BI Discoverer Configuration Guide, and it tell me to associate the Oracle BI with the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure to deploy the Discoverer. so I went to the BI Application Server Control page, the Infrastructure section, the Identity Management to configure the Internet Directory, so I could I have the public connection, but it didn't work.
Also do I real need the Oracle AS Infrastructure to make the Discoverer Plus work?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Kevin,
Oracle AS Infrastructure is needed only if you are implementing SSO for Discoverer or using Public connection .
Else only Oracle AS Middle tier is sufficient to work with Discoverer Plus .
Regarding "how could I connect the Discoverer plus to my ODS database, so I could create report or view report"
You need to create the End User Layer (EUL) and then grant privilege to the EUL to users who will be creating the report .

  • Invoking DIscoverer Report Using Zoom on Apps Form

    HI there
I've seen this on client site but never done it myself. Does anyone have any documentation or guidance on how to set up a form personalization so that the zoom menu option on a form links to a discoverer report, potentially passing parameter values to limit the data? Can forget the parameter side if it's complicated for now as we don't have any full requirements.
    Many thanks for any help
    Cheers, Kate

    Hi,
You can use the Launch a URL or Launch a function builtin to link to a Discoverer report using Forms Personalization.
Look at Metalink Note:420541.1 and the Discoverer Configuration Guide for more details.

  • How to stop the timing out of web Discoverer Plus

I was working in Plus, and it drove me crazy that I would loose my work because I kept my session open and it would time out.How to stop the timing out of web Discoverer Plus?
    Thank you,
    Olga

Please check Discoverer configuration guide which tells you which parameter to change in preference file(pref.txt).I think you change the value.

  • Oracle Discoverer integrate with SSO, SYS_CONTEXT function does not work?

Here is the summary of steps I have already completed:
    1. Following the Discoverer configuration guide, I modified mod_osso.conf file.
    2. So right now, when I typed
http:\\host: 7778\discoverer\plus, it will direct me to the single-sign-on page.
    3. Then I login as "orcladmin" (a user in OID), and I will be direct to the standard Connection page.
    4. And I already create a private connection using database user "EDW".
    5. So when I click the private connection, I can run the workbook and see all the data. So far so good.
    6. Now is the problem, since I am going to use VDP to restrict the data that SSO user can see. (for example, "orcladmin" can only see school1 data, but not school2 data) So I need to use some sort of function to return value "orcladmin" in the database so that I can use it to create security context and policy (for example, when "orcladmin" login, the SQL query discoverer generated will have a where clause school_id=1). And according to the configuration guide, if I run the following SQL, I should get back "orcladmin":
    Select SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'CLIENT_IDENTIFIER') from dual;
But instead, I got null. What is the problem? BTW, when I ran the above SQL, I login into the database as EDWPRD, who owns all the base tables that underlying all the workbooks.
Thank you in advance for your help!!
    Ren

    Hi Ren
When you say that you are testing this in SQL presumably you are doing this in SQL Plus. If this is true then the answer you got back is correct because connections to SQL Plus do not use the App Server SSO login and so the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER attribute will always return NULL. Try switching this to OS_USER and you should see the user name from the operating system. Switching this to SESSION_USER will tell you the database user name, while switching it to TERMINAL will tell you the name of the machine that you are logged on, and so on.
For a full list of attribute values to SYS_CONTEXT take a look here:
    http://www.psoug.org/reference/sys_context.html
To take advantage of any of this inside Discoverer you would have to register the PL/SQL SYS_CONTEXT function with Discoverer.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Michael

  • Can Discoverer have link to display documents stored outside the database?

I posted a message some time ago called "Possible for Discoverer to display BLOB type documents stored in database?" and got great answer.
Now our customers are asking if it is possible, from Discoverer, to link somehow to a file stored outside the database on the Unix file system and get their computer to display it? Can anyone tell me if this is possible please?
The only thing I've seen in the documentation that may be related is in Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Configuration Guide, section 10.6 List of Discoverer user preferences. It says there that Discoverer preference ProtocolList can be set so that Discoverer hyperlinks can be set to use protocols such as telnet, but the default is HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP.
THank you in advance if you can help.
    Regards,
    Julie.

    Hi Rod,
I have tried the second method: "create a Oracle directory pointing to the Unix directory containing the files". I have had success with it, but I'd be grateful if you could advise me if you would have done this the same way as described below:
I put two Word docs and two text docs called clob_test1.txt, clob_test2.txt, blob_test1.doc, blob_test2 in the Unix directory corresponding to an Oracle directory called 'EIF'. I thought an extrenal table was needed so that Discoverer would have an object to write a queruy against. So I created a file called lob_test_data.txt with the following contents:
    1,01-JAN-2006,text/plain,clob_test1.txt
    2,02-JAN-2006,text/plain,clob_test2.txt
    3,01-JAN-2006,application/msword,blob_test1.doc
    4,02-JAN-2006,application/msword,blob_test2.
THen I created an external table using the following DDL:
    CREATE TABLE jum_temp_lob_tab (
    file_id NUMBER(10),
    date_content DATE,
    mime_type VARCHAR2(100),
    blob_content BLOB
    ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
    TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
    DEFAULT DIRECTORY EIF
    ACCESS PARAMETERS
    RECORDS DELIMITED BY NEWLINE
    BADFILE EIF:'lob_tab_%a_%p.bad'
    LOGFILE EIF:'lob_tab_%a_%p.log'
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    MISSING FIELD VALUES ARE NULL
    file_id CHAR(10),
    date_content CHAR(11) DATE_FORMAT DATE MASK "DD-MON-YYYY",
    mime_type CHAR(100),
    blob_filename CHAR(100)
COLUMN TRANSFORMS (blob_content FROM LOBFILE (blob_filename) FROM (EIF) BLOB)
    LOCATION ('lob_test_data.txt')
    PARALLEL 2
    REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED
then created a Discoverer End User Layer folder against this external table, and used exactly the same technique as we did for downloading the BLOB from the database table (creating a new folder item containing a URL calling a database procedure which calls the Oracle code to download the doc). THis worked, but sometimes my PC didn't seem to know that the Word docs were Word docs and it needed to launch Word. Other times it did manage to do this OK. It always displayed the two .txt files as HTML docs.
Just wondered if you'd be good enough to critique this approach.
    THank you, Julie.

  • DISCOVERER Plus connectivity issus

Encountering a connection issue when using DISCOVERER Plus. When attempting to refresh (using the refresh icon) after five-ten minutes of being idle, the message "Failed to connect to database" is received. Users then have to reconnect to DISCOVERER via the connection screen. I don't have any knowledge about disvocer. The platform is windows.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
The first think you will want to check is the timout preference for Discoverer Plus.
    It is located in <oracle_home/discoverer/util/pref.txt
Once you change it, you will need to run applpreferences.sh or applypfreferences.bat (for Windows) and the next sessions will pick up the change.
Discoverer Viewer timeout is in the web.xml file.. see the Discoverer Configuration Guide on OTN
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Error migrating Discoverer preferences...

    Hi friends,
I'm in the middle of a Discoverer migration (4i to 10.1.2 , Apps version: 11.5.10.2 DB: 9.2.0.8, OS: Red Hat Linux 2.1)
I'm migrating the preferences following the 313418.1 Metalink note. (Step 5)
Following the Discoverer Configuration Guide 10gR2, There, in appendix B.7.1 it says that command is:
    > <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/dis51pr -migrate -from 102
I tried to execute and the result is:
u01/erpbat/aeaora/disco10/bin/dis51pr: error while loading shared libraries: libTAO_PortableServer.so.1.3.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've looked for libTAO_PortableServer.so.1.3.1 file, and I've found it under
    [appldes:]:/u01/erpbat/aeaora/disco10/discoverer/lib directory.
    (my ORACLE_HOME is /u01/erpbat/aeaora/disco10/)
I tried to execute the dis51pr file under that directory, but with the same result...
    Any ideas?
What is curious is that in the guide, the dis51pr file seems to be placed in ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/util directory... but ,it's not ther, it's in
    ORACLE_HOME/bin.. I don't know if it's important...)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jose L

    Hi again,
after solved that point... I thinked I'd finished the Discoverer installation (just neeed to create a script to set the appropiate ORACLE_HOME at startup)
I had run opmnctl startall and opmnctl stopall with success (to test that all was OK..), but when I exit.. and enter in session again... then it didn't work... :-(
I stopped all apps services and all discoverer services..
I started apps services with success.. but when I tried to execute opmnctl startall again.. it failed ... (don't know why now! )
    Relevant information about that:
    Error:

So the error seems to be with PreferenceServer...
I've found a note in metalink with exactly the same error:
Subject: Discoverer Preferenceserver Process Does Not Start on 10g Install -
'failed to start a managed process after the maximum retry limit' Error
    Doc ID: Note:312252.1
but in this note .. it says that the cause is the etc/hosts file...
I don't think so because that file wasn't be changed since June... (and... this worked in the last execution) so... I have no ideas for the moment...
    Any idea?
(Another bit problem, I don't know if it's in relation is that... I can't access through 7777 port to discoverer from my PC. That's the port chosen by default installation to HTTP Server.. and I changed in httpd.conf and in Profile options..)
    Thanks,
    Jose

  • Export option in discoverer viewer

    Hi All,
I am using oracle 9ias discoverer and i need to remove export option from discoverer viewer page.
I made changes in ui_config.xsl and also unchecked the export data option from preferences page, but it is not reflected in my workbook. when i click on the export data link, a new page is displayed with a combo to select export format and when i click on apply button it forwards to connection page.
Can anyone please tell me why it is happening like this and how to resolve it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks and regards
    Mukesh Harjai

I assume you are following the directions in Chapter 10 - "Customizing Discoverer Viewer" of the Oracle9iAS Discoverer Configuration Guide.
You should be able to remove the Export link.
