Discoverer desktop 9.04 and database 11g r2

Does anyone know if the discoverer desktop 9.04 will work with database 11g r2 without any problems.

Agreed - use the latest version :-)
Sutirtha - I am assuming you work for Oracle. If so, is there anyway you can help with my post in the Doc forum ? connect to orcale 8.1.7.4 via OLEDB

  • Limit Discoverer Desktop Instance Count and Run Time

    Hi all,
    I want to learn how I can restrict the number of Dicoverer desktop instances a user can open. I want to learn how to do it especially on Applications user basis because I will restrict only some of them. And also I want to know if it is possible to make a specific report to be able to be run only at given hours by given users.
    To be more explaining here is my case; we have a report that takes too long to complete takes too much CPU and memory. We have shops that will start using Discoverer Desktop and the report in question. Now our users are not too careful to and open too many Discoverer instances, I want to restrict this to 1 for the shop users. Also, I want them to run that report only after 6:00 pm because it is when the center office which has 80% of the Oracle users is empty.
    Is this possible, if it is could you tell me how to achieve it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    You need to establish whether the problem is with the pc, the network or the database. So the first things you need to check are:
    1. Is it a crosstab report, do you have the same issue if it is a table report?
    2. How many rows does it return, do you have the same issue if you limit the rows to just a few?
    3. Is it an Apps mode database mode EUL, if it is apps mode, you need to check the the users context in the database is not causing an issue?
    4. Is this a general problem or a problem with a specific query?

  • Discoverer 3.1.44 and oracle 11g

    Hi,
    We are using Discoverer 3.1.44 and it works with oracle 10g so far. I created an 11g database on windows and discoverer 3.1.44 is giving me "Ora-02284 - invalid option for ALTER SESSION" please help as we can't upgrade Discoverer yet.
    thanks

    Thanks Rod for taking time to reply. I appreciate it. I removed/deleted the NLS_LANG (from registry) and Disco 3.1 connected. But it would not able to run any worksheet/query. It would throw some kind of Microsoft error. The session would then terminate. I proceeded to create this database logon trigger.
    create or replace trigger <username>.disco_logon_trigger after logon ON <username>.SCHEMA
    begin
    dbms_session.set_nls('nls_language', 'AMERICAN' );
    end;
    it does not seem to fix the problem. still can't run any worksheet/query. same Microsoft error everytime I try to run the query. Anything else I can try?
    Another question - Is there a version of Discoverer that is not web based? We don't want to have to install/buy ORacle App server middleware in order to use Discoverer.
    Again, Thanks Rod,

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop 11.1.1.3 11g install

    Windows XP sp3
    Work for a company
    Installed Discoverer Desktop 11g 11.1.1.3
    Upon launching application with __end-user Jane__ logged into computer, immediately get this error, 'dis51usr.exe not found, click Browse to locate' .
    I installed the program with me logged in to computer (I have admin rights). Discoverer Desktop opens without error when I am logged into the computer. When the EU is logged in, we get the error. I had installed the app on another user's machine, John, and had same error. For user John, I added the user to 'Domain Users' and relaunch app and the error never came up (the app launched and came to the login gui, the app launch is a success. For the user I first mentioned, I added that user to 'Domain Users' but the error still comes up.
    I do not know what to check that could be causing this issue.
    Is it a path issue? Environmental Variables issue?
    I do not have enough experience with oracle to know the proper 'user environmental variable' and the 'system environmental variable'. Please help!! Thank you.

    Hello
    Windows will look inside your PATH to see if it can find the file. If it cannot locate the file in your PATH you will get the dis51usr.exe not found error.
    Can you post the PATH that is being used?
    You can get the path as follows:
    1. Launch Control Panel
    2. Click System
    3. Click Advanced System Settings
    4. Click Environment Variables
    5. Look in bottom half of screen for variable named PATH
    6. Click Edit and copy the PATH then post it in here for me to look at
    7. Click Cancel - do not edit the path

  • Discoverer default username, password and database??

    Hello,
    I had posted this in the wrong forum so I am posting this again over here...
    I installed the trial version of the Oracle Discoverer Desktop on my machine. What is the default username, password and database that should be used to connect to discoverer?
    Thanks

    As far as I know, there is no such thing as a default user/password and/or database for Discoverer.
    The database could be any database you like, for example one that you have on your desktop. Then you should first create a user to own the EUL, grant required privileges to that user (see manual), start Discoverer Administrator, create the EUL, fill the EUL with whatever you like, grant access to it to the user you want to use, and THEN then can start Discoverer Desktop and start working...

  • JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 and database 11g, problem in JDBC ?

    We developed our j2ee application (using hibernate) for some time. Now we came to newer Oracle database 11g and have problem - endless waiting for fetched data. I think, that problem is in JDBC version.
    Adding new JDBC into project as new library and placing it 'before' the old one doesn't help. Btw. hibernate gets connection from applicationContext_dataSource.xml file and is defined for example like this
    <bean id="dataSource" class="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource" destroy-method="close">
    <property name="driverClassName" value="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"/>
    <property name="url" value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:SID"/>
    <property name="username" value="name"/>
    <property name="password" value="password"/>
    </bean>
    It has nothing to do with defined conections.
    My question is this:
    - Can I upgrade JDBC in our 10.1.3.2.0 JDeveloper to new version or latest version of JDeveloper is needed ?
    Thanks.

    The OC4J server embedded in JDeveloper 11g does not support JDBC 4.0.
    Java applications using the JDBC 4.0 driver may be developed in JDeveloper 11g.

  • NLS_LANG value that suits Forms 10G and Database 11G wanted !

    I can't believe how bad is to install Oracle Database and Oracle Forms on the same Windows Vista machine!
    I had a problem in Oracle Forms 10g that prevents many items in the Form Builder menu from appearing in English Language and also prevents anything in the web-based forms runtime from appearing in English. I searched the forum for a solution and found that I have to set a NLS_LANG value in the environment variables equal to the following: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1256.
    I did this and my Forms builder looked great. Everything in english with no problems. But now what ?! The Oracle Database itself refused to connect from all clients! It refused to connect from Forms Builder, SQL Deeveloper, and even from SQL PLUS! The error given is: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
    It seems that what I exactly need is a NLS_LANG value that will satisfy both Oracle Forms 10G and Oracle Database 11G that both are installed on the same Vista machine. The question is: What could this NLS_LANG value be?!
    Thank you in advance

    If you have connected to the database on which the form is based, prior to running the form from the Builder, the uname and password will automatically be passed in at startup and you will not be prompted.
    If you would rather hard code a username and password, enter it in formsweb.cfg. For example:
    SYNTAX:
    userid=<USERNAME>/<PASSWORD>@<DB NAME>
    EXAMPLE:
    userid=scott/tiger@orcl
    Remember that this change will only impact runtime and have no effect on the Builder.

    Hi Abhishek,
    You can install or mount both DB and OBIEE on same machine, but check out the disk space and memory needed should be more to accomodate both.

  • Discoverer Desktop 10.1 and Excel

    I have a report that is creating an output of 589,000 rows. I have both Excel 2003 and 2007 loaded to my desktop. Unfortunaltey, when I export to Excel, my output file has only 65536 rows, which of course is the Excel 2003 limitation. Excel 2007 has 1,000,000 row limitation. Is there a way to force Desktop to Export to a Excel 2007 file, which would have my entire 589,000 rows in one worksheet.
    Thanks
    Edited by: user6267603 on Feb 24, 2009 10:46 AM

    Hi,
    I think it only separates into multiple sheets when exporting from plus, not desktop.
    I don't think that Excel 2007 is properly supported, so don't believe there would be no way to do the forced approach that you mention. If anyone knows otherwise, please do tell! This thread has some useful stuff Exporting Oracle 10g reports into Excel 2007 .
    Like Troy the way i've gotten around this is to export the output into a different file format, such as csv or probably more reliably, tab separated. Click on file then export to get more export file format options.
    Once exported open the file into Excel by changing the file type to all files and find the file. Excel will know that the file format is not an Excel one, and import it by giving you some options. Selected delimited as the method of opening rather than fixed width. In the next step select the tab or comma as the delimiter depending on if you've exported in csv or tab delimited. Just click next and ignore the step about skipping columns and formatting (unless you want to specifically format any of the columns, which you can do after import). Then click on finish and bingo, one huge file imported into Excel 2007.
    Hope this is of use. Sorry for the basic step-by-step instructions, but not everyone knows how to do that.
    Regards,
    Lloyd

  • Can I use iptables with OEL4.7 running IAS 10.2 and database 11g ?

    We have our application on a RED-HAT OEL(oracle enterprise linux) server, and want to know if its possible to filter mac address to access our application by the iptables mode.
    I know that I needed to turn-off firewals when I installed the oracle software,
    but, is it possible to have iptables running on this machine?
    if you need any detail that I can give you no problem..
    cheers.

    Of course, you can definitely use iptables.. but you need to identify all the ports for incoming and outgoing traffic before enabling iptables and make allow rules in IP tables for that traffic.

  • How to use Oracle OAB Fast Formulas in Discoverer-desktop [ for reporting]

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me how to use a fast formula in discoverer-desktop [for reporting]. Currently, we have a disco-report that calcuates the 'monthly salary', but we don't want to use that. Instead, we have a custom fast-formula [xx_oab_monthly_salary] which has the conditions and calculations that we need.
    I want to use that formula in discoverer-desktop directly and get the monthly-salary.. i.e., someone needs to create a folder under the business area and add it i believe.. the formula internally calls a function.
    when i checked about this with my dba - he said, he can add the 'function', but not the formula. and i need to write the calculation part...
    does anyone know how to add it...there shud a way right...
    i do not have access to the technical-stuff here..
    someone said ["you can wrap the FF_EXEC.run_formula call into your own pl/sql function and map this function into the EUL so that the formula can be called from a workbook.", but this talks about pl/sql-do we need pl/sql
    for this].
    also, someone else said [ some fast formulas need specific contexts to be set. Depending on whether the fast formula below the only fast formula that you want to recreate in Discoverer.
    For a single formula, in general my recommendation is to recreate the fast formula instead of using the ff_exec call].
    any quick answers greatly appreciate..
    thx,

    Hi,
    That's right you need to develop the pl/sql function outside of Discoverer using a pl/sql tool or just SQL*plus. I haven't an example to hand, but can dig one up if you need it. Once you have the function developed you can map it into the EUL using Discoverer Administrator. It will then be available to Discoverer Desktop/Plus as a database function when creating calculations. So you can then just add the calculation to an existing or new report.
    Alternatively, you can build the pl/sql function into a view and load the view into a new folder using Discoverer Admin.
