Discoverer Desktop Connection

All,
When connecting to Desktop as an ORACLE applications user I get a dialog 'Choose a Responsibility' that pops up. How can I change the list of responsibilities shown in that pop up? Also what is the significance of this pop up?
Thanks,
Vinay

Hi,
will you assign the responsibility to the BA or to the workbook. In (very) general there are several levels of security using discoverer, i'll go top-down:
1. in BA level you define who can see the BA and what are the privileges he should have.
It will be much easier to maintain using responsibility for that.
inside the folders you can create a mandatory condition and by that force a security rule.
best way to have in the database although it is really per demand.
2.in the workbook level you define who will be able to see the workbook and use it (he must have access to the BA)
3. in the database objects you created/ used for the BA you can define a security in the data level so that if for example you'll run a financial report each legal entity will see it's own data. the workbook can be the same but the data in it will be changed according to the security applied in the code.
Also if you assign the resp. to the BA then will all workbooks under that BA be
assigned automatically to that resp. as well.No, each workbook you want to share with a responsibility is defined manually (can assign several at once)
but for each workbook you share, the responsibility (or user BTW) must have access to the BA and this is defined in the discoverer administrator tool.

    Discoverer supports two kinds of connections - database schema connections and apps connections. For Disco Admin, you login using a database schema, which, as you stated, works. For Disco User you login using an Apps user account (for which there is a no equivalent database scherma). To enable such a connection, you need to check the "oracle applications user" check box on the 10g Disco login screen. Also, under Tools --> Options, in the Connection tab, make sure that "connect to both standard and applications EULs" radio button is selected.

  • Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1 cant connect to 11g (11.2.0.2.0) database

    Hi,
    Has anyone ever come across this problem. Any solutions?
    Strangely enough, the Discoverer Administrator, Discoverer Plus and Discoverer Viewer connects successfully.
    OS: Windows XP Pro 64bit SP2 (tried on Windows 7 64bit with no success too)
    Discoverer Administrator client: 10.1.2.48.18
    End User Layer Library: 10.1.2.48.18
    End User Layer: 5.1.1.0.0.0
    Discoverer Viewer & Plus: 10.1.2.55.26
    Thank you for any information

    Hi,
    That's odd. Maybe try enabling the DCE Diagnostics (as described in note 403689.1) to log the traffic to/from the database and then look at the differences between the 10R2 and 11.2 database. From what you say it could be something in the XP registry that gets set when you connect to 10R2 that is needed to connect to 11.2, so maybe check in the registry as well.

    please help in setup that must required to check and login to oracle applications user. Also Provide if there is any alternative.

    Hi,
    The apps initialization can be done by Discoverer provided that you are connecting to an Apps mode EUL with an applications username and password.
    You must specify that you want an Apps mode EUL when the EUL is created. Then when you connect to Disco Admin as the owner of the EUL you will be able to grant access privs and security to the Application users and responsbilities.
    If you have an apps mode EUL and still get an invalid username/password then this could be because the application is running in secure mode. Then you need to copy the .dbc file to a local directory. Search this forum for details on how to do this.

    Do you want to run the query for the sheet Ord_report; Yes/No; If i select option as Yes i am getting error mesg as Failed to connect to database; If i choose No I will get empty sheet; In either case I will see empty sheet appears; From the Tool Bar if i select Sheet --> Refersh Sheet; I am able to see records in my sheet.
    When i continue working on this sheet; All of sudden i get error screen as Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hi,
    I have the same issue with Discoverer Plus 10g Rel 1 (10.2.0.2 )
    Desktop and Administrator are working good. So, I cannot resolve it by re-installation.
    Also, this is not reproducible. Sometimes it works very smoothly, but sometimes it gives error for the same report.

    Hi
    The easiest way to get a fully working TNSNAMES in a version 4 environment is to use the Net 8 Configuration utility.
    Here's a workflow:
    1. From the Start button, select Start | Oracle for Windows NT | Oracle Net8 Easy Config
    2. When it starts, check Add New Service and in the little box to the right type the name by which you want this connection to be known
    3. Click the Next button
    4. Select TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) and click the Next button
    5. Enter the fully qualified domain name or IP address of the server that contains the database
    6. In Port, enter the port number - it defaults to 1521
    7. Click the Next button
    8.In Database SID enter the name of the database, then click the Next button
    9.Click the Test Service button
    10. Provide a username and password for an account on the database, then click the Test button
    11. If you see: Connecting.... The test did not succeed you got the username/password combination wrong or some other part of the setup
    12. When you see: Connecting.... The connection test was successful click the Done button
    13. Click the Next button
    14. Click the Finish button
    You should now have a valid TNSNAMES connection for use by Discoverer 4

  • Cannot log in as an application user on Discoverer Desktop

    Hi
    I have Discoverer Desktop 4.1.37.00.0 on a laptop. When I try to log in as an application user, when in connect field I enter database name, I get the following error message:
    ORA-12154:TNS:could not resolve service name
    When instead of databse name I input connect string in tnsnames.ora file, I get another error message:
    Unable to connect to Oracle Application Database:Invalid username/password
    Please note that the checkbox 'oracle application user' is enabled while attempting to log in.
    Secondly, in my Administration Edition in Tools>options>connections
    the following settings have been done:
    Connect to both standard and applications EULs
    Gateway User Id (GWYUID)/Password : APPLSYSPUB/PUB
    FNDNAM : APPS
    Similar seetings have been done for the desktop.
    Also note that I cannot even log in as a database user. The error message I receive is
    'You do not have access to any End User Tables.'
    The database user name I'm using to log in is the one who has created EUL(apps mode) and owns business areas in that EUL.
    Can someone please guide me on this problem?

    Hi
    The solution to my problem was exactly the same: I needed to apply the patch 3201601.
    This patch is available on http://metalink.oracle.com
    While installing the version 4.1.48.06.00 on my laptop, as I have XP, I came across some DLL errors.
    For this refer to the note 297750.1, DLL Copy Errors when Trying to Patch Discoverer Administrator/Desktop 4.1
    The note is also available on the metalink.

    You can install Discoverer using XP SP2 compatibility mode. Right click the install.exe file and go to the compatibility tab. You should be able to get it from there.
    Setup should proceed as normal. You may, however, get an error when trying to login to Discoverer. I am still confounded with this error;
    Failed to connect to database - ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION.
    Since Discoverer is not certified with Windows 7, good luck trying to find a solution. I have been working on the problem for days now without any luck.

  • I am not able to see the Business area in Discoverer desktop

    Hi,
    r
    I am new to Discoverer
    I have created a business area in EUL with user name and password as dewip/dewip in Discoverer administrator and now when I am logging in to Discoverer Desktop with the same user name and password to create workbook I am able to log in but I am not able to find the Business area in the Discoverer desktop.
    After creating the business area do we need to do anything ( We don't even have save option to save also).
    In Discoverer admin -> tools-> privilages I checked to see the privilages for this user ,but I could not see this user name(dewip) only.
    Please help me ,its urgent.
    Thanks,
    gsr

    Hi gsr
    If you are working on Desktop and you change the default EUL but it doesn't stick this means that you don't have Admin rights over your machine.
    In order to make these setting stick you need to have permission to update the system registry.
    If you really cannot be given these rights then I suggest you ask you system admin to change the registry setting for you on your machine so that it reflects the correct EUL. You will find it here:
    1. From the Start button, use Run | regedit
    2. Open your registry to display HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Oracle | Discoverer 10
    3. Expand the folder called Database
    4. Inside here you will see one set of settings that begin with AEUL and another with UEL. The format is like this:
    AEUL_username_database and UEUL_username_database
    5. You should see the name of the default EUL in the column called Data
    6. Right-click on the setting you want to change and from the pop-up select Modify
    7. Type the name of the EUL that Desktop should default to for that user in the database, making sure you type it in UPPERCASE
    8. Click the OK button
    9. Close the registry
    When you now connect to Discoverer Desktop you should be in the correct EUL.
    Note: this is only required if you don't have admin rights on your PC. If you do have admin rights then Discoverer will set this for itself.
    By the way, if you or anyone reading this is unsure about manually editing your registry you should back it up first. Here are the steps:
    To backup your registry, follow this workflow:
    1. From your PC, click Start | Run
    2. In the Run dialog box, type "regedit" and press the Enter key
    3. The registry will now be displayed
    4. From the registry menu bar, select Registry | Export Registry File
    5. When the Export Registry File dialog box opens, give a name to the file you want the registry to be saved as
    6. In Export Range, check "All" or "Selected Branch" - Selected Branch will export the current folder, so if you happen to have already navigated down tp the appropriate Discoverer Administrator folder you will be able to back it up
    7. Click the Save button
    8. Close the registry editor
    To restore your registry, follow this workflow:
    1. From your PC, click Start | Run
    2. In the Run dialog box, type "regedit" and press the Enter key
    3. The registry will now be displayed
    4. From the registry menu bar, select Registry | Import Registry File
    5. Navigate to the folder in which your registry is saved and locate the file
    6. Click the Open button - the registry will be restored
    7. Close the registry editor

  • Discoverer Desktop v 4.1

    Anyone know where I can download Discoverer Desktop v4.1.48.
    Thanks..

    Hi Neville
    Actually, if you don't have 10g yet you may as well upgrade to 11g.
    You'll find the software here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/middleware/htdocs/fmw_11_download.html
    If you scroll down the column headed Microsoft Windows until you come to the column labeled Oracle BI Discoverer Desktop and Administrator 11.1.1.3.0
    You can install these into a new Oracle home on your machines.
    To upgrade you need to connect as the Administrator in 11g connecting using the credentials from version 4. You should be prompted to upgrade? Don't worry though because Discoverer 11 will not overwrite anything from version 4, it will install completely new objects.
    If you don't fancy this idea, then you can create yourself a brand new schema and install an empty EUL into that area. Then you export the EUL from version 4 and import it into version 11.
    Note: you will find that you need additional grants in the database to fully use 11g. Here are the scripts I use:
    Admin User:
    create user &username identified by &password;
    grant connect, resource to &&username;
    grant alter any materialized view to &&username;
    grant analyze any, create any materialized view to &&username;
    grant create procedure, create role, create sequence to &&username;
    grant create session, create table, create view to &&username;
    grant drop any materialized view, execute any procedure to &&username;
    grant global query rewrite to &&username;
    grant select any table, unlimited tablespace to &&username;
    grant execute on sys.dbms_job to &&username;
    grant select on sys.v_$parameter to &&username;
    For end users who need to schedule:
    accept username prompt'Enter Username: '
    accept pword prompt'Enter Password: '
    create user &username identified by &password;
    grant connect, resource to &&username;
    grant analyze any to &&username;
    grant create procedure, create sequence to &&username;
    grant create session, create table, create view to &&username;
    grant execute any procedure to &&username;
    grant global query rewrite to &&username;
    grant select any table, unlimited tablespace to &&username;
    grant execute on sys.dbms_job to &&username;
    grant select on sys.v_$parameter to &&username;
    For users who do not need to schedule:
    create user &username identified by &password;
    grant connect to &&username;
    grant execute any procedure to &&username;
    grant global query rewrite to &&username;
    grant select any table to &&username;

  • What priviliges need to Run Discoverer Desktop

    Hi all,
    I have installed Discoverer Desktop on client machine. When I login throug the administrator on any client machine then I can connect to Desktop. But unable to connect to Discoverer Desktop on client machine when I connect with my personal ID that dont have administrative priviliges. I got the error that system unable to update system registry. Use REGEDIT. And also desktop didnt connect and return TNS Error. What should I do in this condition? Should I give the administrator priviliges to every user who are using Discoverer Desktop.
    Thanks.

    Let me elaborate on exactly what I am doing with this. I have a view that goes against a 5 million record table and gets contract line flexfields. The performance is greatly improved when a specific contract is selected, so I have built in an extra join to a temporary table that contains nothing but contract number. When a report is run in Discoverer, the goal is to allow the user to enter a parameter of contract number, and then take that number and execute a function to populate the temporary table with that contract number, then get the data from the view that has joined to this table. It works if the user runs the report 2 times, as the data is being generated before the function is executed, so there is nothing in the temp table on the first execution due to timing. What I need to do is change the timing and force the function to populate the temp table prior to the running of the view. Is this possible?
