Discoverer Desktop installation fails on Windows 7
Hi All,
We are installing Discoverer Desktop version 10.1.2.00 on Windows 7 32-bit version 6.1, runing the setup.exe gives error
ERROR:

Exiting Oracle Universal Installer
Is Dis Desktop 10.1.2.00 on Windows 7 ? any additional patched to be applied?
Kindly suggest
Thanks
SK
You can install Discoverer using XP SP2 compatibility mode. Right click the install.exe file and go to the compatibility tab. You should be able to get it from there.
Setup should proceed as normal. You may, however, get an error when trying to login to Discoverer. I am still confounded with this error;
Failed to connect to database - ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION.
Since Discoverer is not certified with Windows 7, good luck trying to find a solution. I have been working on the problem for days now without any luck.

Discoverer Desktop installation
Hi all,
I have to install Discoverer Desktop and Administrator on windows machine and 9i AS is on linux server.
To install these do i need to have Discoverer as part of 9i DS or can i directly install them if so should I install Administrator first or Desktop ?
Do i need to make any changes to the Registry ?
Should i stop all Oracle services before installing them ?
ThankYouPlease post to the Discoverer forum:

AIR 2.5.1 sidecar installation failing on Windows 7
My team is attempting to distribute the AIR runtime with our AIR application, and experiencing frequent failures on Windows 7 (64 bit).
The error message is "The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author. Error #0".
I am not seeing this issue on Mac OSX or with previous version of Windows.
This issue is for the sidecar distribution package - I am able to install AIR by itself without incident.
The package is a (zipped) folder to be downloaded from our storefront, containing the application and the most recent sidecar package for Windows distribution (2.5.1.17730).
The typical solution suggested for this type of problem is to scrub your system of any and all AIR files, and reinstall. I have tried this using both Windows Install Clean-up Utilities and CCleaner with no luck. Additionally I have restored the machine I am testing on to factory settings, so no evidence of AIR should exist to begin with.
I am using an admin account, and have tried shutting off UAC.
Curiously I am able to install without a problem from a USB drive or CD! The AIR distribution documentation hints that the sidecar installer is meant to be used with physcial media (CD, DVD, USB, or DMG); is it possible that sidecar installation ONLY works from external devices?
My main concern is NOT getting AIR installed on this particular machine, but releasing our product with the confidence that Windows 7 users will be able to install. Or at the very least, that we can offer a simple solution to users who do need to troubleshoot.
The install log (following) seems to point towards setup.msi being the fail point.
I have also zipped the MSI logs and posted them here, rather than pasting them in the document since there are 3 (long) files.
Any insight would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay.
We're generally a Mac house, so there's only the one Win7 machine that we test on. However we did send the app out for testing, and had similar results on some (but not all) of their Win7 environments.
Where should I send the app? -

1) Check that the Windows username you have logged on with does not contain a space (or other special characters such as umlauts etc). The workaround is to create another Windows account without spaces, give that account Administrator privileges, and install using that account.
2) Certain locales have problems. These include Russian, Estonian, English - South Africa, Spanish - Dominican Republic, German - Switzerland, French - Switzerland, Italian - Switzerland. The work around is to set the user locale to something else before the XE installation.
3) If you have the DLL oraociei10.dll in your path you will have problems. Workaround is: Search to see if this file exists on your hard drive. If it does, check to see that the directory that contains it is not in your path. If it is in your path, then remove during the Install. You can add it back to your path after the install, but the SQL Command line provides with Oracle Database XE will not work
In all cases above, deinstall the software using Add/Remove Progam before trying the work around -

Discoverer Desktop Connections Fails With Invalid Username/Pass in r12
Hi all;
I have problem. I can login Discoverer Administrator from my localmachine and i can see what ppl did it there.. But when i try to login Discoverer Desktop from my localmachine its gives me Invalid Username/Pass. error.
I even cant login my system from browser :
http://xx.com:7778/discoverer/plus << pages comes and i fill in the blanks area like:
Connect to : Oracle Application
Username: sysadmin
pass: ***
Database: VIS
I found some document from forums. Whihc is :
Discoverer Is Unable to Connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password Doc ID: Note:467919.1
Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Connectons To Oracle E-Business Suite 12 Fails With 'Invalid Username/Password' Doc ID: Note:443661.1
But before i apply those patch i want to take advice from you. Coz i can login Discoverer Administrator and can use it but cant login Discoverer Desktop...its kind of wierd... i already checked what i have done in installtion and its all seems correct.
Any idea;
Regards
HeliosDiscoverer supports two kinds of connections - database schema connections and apps connections. For Disco Admin, you login using a database schema, which, as you stated, works. For Disco User you login using an Apps user account (for which there is a no equivalent database scherma). To enable such a connection, you need to check the "oracle applications user" check box on the 10g Disco login screen. Also, under Tools --> Options, in the Connection tab, make sure that "connect to both standard and applications EULs" radio button is selected.

Installation failed with Windows Vista and JDK1.602
Hi All,
Appreciate any help to resolve the following installation error on my Windows Vista system with JDK1.602
Pop-up Error Message:
The installer is unable to run graphical mode. Please check the value of the DISPLAY environment varibale.
Thanks,
CPJSE8.1 (based on NetBeans 5.0) is not supported on Vista. You may want to consider using the latest NetBeans 5.5.1. (NetBeans is where all future development is planned for).
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5192837
From the release notes of NB551:
# Issue #85361: NetBeans 5.5 installer does not start on Windows Vista.
Description: On systems running Windows Vista, the NetBeans 5.5 installer fails to start
and a message suggesting running with the "silent" or "console" flag appears.
Workaround: To correct this, run the installer on JDK 6.0 build 96 or newer.
If you encounter further difficulties, disable Compatibility Mode manually. You can do
this by right-clicking the .exe installer file and choosing Properties from the pop-up menu,
then deselecting Compatibility Mode in the Compatibility tab of the File Properties dialog.
Note that if Compatibility Mode was turned on automatically, it is necessary to disable it
for both the current user AND all users. To do so, click the "Show Settings for All Users"
button, then deselect the Compatibility Mode checkbox in the "Compatibility for All Users"
dialog. You can try the same workaround for installing jse8.1, to see if that works. But, it is an older version that is not supported on vista and hence my suggestion to consider a later version of NB. -
SQL Server 2008 R2 & 2008 R2 SP1 installation fails in Windows server 2012
Hi All,
I have a strange issue here. I have a Windows server 2012 VM where i want to deploy SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise edition.
When i Run the setup every thing goes fine and during the installation wizard i get this error " The Folder path Program files contains invalid characteristics. I get this error 3 - 4 times during the installation wizard and the installation fails.
Below is the screenshot for the same.
So i checked few articles regarding the compatibility issue and found the below article and upgraded my setup to SQL 2008 R2 SP1 using the below article.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2011/07/13/how-to-slipstream-sql-server-2008-r2-and-a-sql-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1.aspx
Again i still see the same above errors and with that a new error related to a MOF File.
Below are the contents of the error logs. Can some one assist on this issue.

Gautam.75801Hi Alberto,
Still the same issue.
I installed the SQL 2008 R2 without SP1 and changed the service accounts to system account and repaired the .NET using the .NET Repair tool
Also changed the installation directory to D:\ Drive this time. Still same issue.

Where is Discoverer Desktop installation disks?
I already have Oracle Application Server 10g installed on Windows and have been using Oracle Portal. Now I want to explore Oracle Discoverer. I see no Windows Start menu item for Discoverer Desktop nor Admin. My Start Menu folder named Discoverer only has 2 shortcuts: [Edit Preferences] and [Apply Preferences].
I have searched oracle.com, but cannot find a download for Oracle Discoverer Desktop nor Admin.
Where do I find these tools?Hi,
It should be the following:
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/ias/101202/as_windows_x86_bi_tools_101202.zip
The Oracle Discoverer Desktop and Oracle Discoverer Administrator are included in a product known as:
Oracle BI Tools
and they are available only to Windows platform...., at least till 10g version....
Greetings...

Discoverer desktop installation on Windows 7 64 OS XP Mode TNS error
I have installed discoverer administrator and desktop in XP Mode on a Windows 7 64 OS. I downloaded the install from Oracle Discoverer 11g Fusion Middleware. I am using XP mode because I believe there is no download for the 64 bit OS in the Windows environment. I have had no trouble with the installation. The trouble comes when trying to connect to a database. I get a TNS error.
I have edited the environmental variable to include tns names. I am able to connect to a database on the network via sql developer but not with discoverer.
One needs to run the xp application within the Windows 7 environment. I have included the environmental variable in both environments (xp virtual and Windows 7) and am 0% successful with discoverer and 100% successful with sql in seeing the database.
Any technical advice?I am indebted to Praveen Deshpande for this :
You need to create a Windows environment variable TNS_ADMIN that points to the directory where the correct Tnsnames.ora file is held.
On my system, I went to 'Computer - System Properties - Advanced - Environment Variables", created an environment variable TNS_ADMIN and set its value to C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\ADMIN
Check where your server or other tnsnames file is stored and set the corresponding value.
Then it all worked perfectly. -
Install Remote Desktop Services Failed on Windows 2012 Server
I understand RDS is not recommended on DC due to security consideration. However since I want to play it at home, it is not much a concern. Such scenario works fine on Windows 2008 R2. But on Windows 2012, the RDS (session-based, have not
tried VDI, but expect same result) installation always fails and is incomplete on DC.
In \Administrative Tools\Terminal Services, I only have RD Licensing Diagnoser and RD licensing manager. The remote desktop service management service cannot be started (Error code: 0x88250001). Is there any extra configuration needed for RDS
working on Server 2012 DC or before the installation? Thanks.
Update: this issue has been solved in Windows 2012 R2 Server. According to
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2013/07/09/what-s-new-in-remote-desktop-services-for-windows-server-2012-r2.aspx
"Single server RDS deployment including Active Directory. We now support running our RD Connection Broker role service on the same physical instance as an Active Directory Domain Controller. In addition, we published
guidelines for how RD Session Host could be used without the RD Connection Broker."
The guidelines (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839/en-us) primarily apply to Windows 2012 Server.Asinine. Simply Asinine. Microsoft took it out because of $GREED$.
RemoteDesktop has become so popular, they had to break it to make more money. Thats why they discontinued SmallBusinessServer. If this practice is so tabooo... Why did MS go the opposite direction with SBS 2011 Premium Cal's? SBS2011
had DC, Exchange, RDS and Sharepoint,SQL, RemoteWebWorkplace, OWA all working in perfect harmony. It is an untrue statement then, that it was "allowed but not recommended"
Now you by Server2012 (core + two virtual) and its not enough for all this.
You need at least another $700 for another sever licence to have it all
and who knows if SQL will run on a DC, or Exchange, or R-DERP server. Another reacherous bridge to cross.
By far, the absloute worse release since Millennium. The product is not ready for production, we broke our rule of waiting until the first SP1 upgrade for this and Exchange 2013. Problems with USB drivers and networking running extreamly slow.
Our 2003 SBS server was at least three times as fast, and this server has SAS and SSD drives running. It can't get out of its own way, and IE10 is the most unstable piece of crap to come out of Redmond. Open wide and swallow - Mother Microsoft
knows whats best for you. YOU WILL EAT OUR SLOP AND LEARN TO LIKE IT. Server2012 AKA "METRO-SERVER"
Now here I sit after 50 Hours back to back setting up a new R-DERP server 2012, AD, Have my RDP licences in my hand at $100 each, and WTH does Microsoft care if I install it on my DC. ITS MY DC. And the cost savings versus the "risk" was
previously MY decision.
Sure, I can install a couple of Virtual HyperV sessions but they are so tempremental to a power-outage in a small business its not worth it. I have to double up my server hard drive resources, buy a $800 battery backup unit and make sure to attach
the cable, and even then, if that Bi**H does not shut down properly, one bit goes awry in a VHD or VHDX file and you are screwed. Restore from lastnights backup and forget about todays work. Not to mention it will probably take a half day to try
to fix it, then recover it then tell the 30 users they lost a days worth of work.
HYPER-V is for test servers and has no place in a small (micro) business environment. 5-30 users.
Microsoft's solution, buy another server. Need Exchange? Buy another server or take the risky cheapskate route and spin up some VHD's. Might as well put a gun to your head and play russian roulette, at least you know you have a one in six
chance of failure. With MS, its a 100% failure for a dirty shutdown power loss, motherboard blows, memory goes corrupt in a few years, your conventional method of recovery is gone, and you have some upchucked VHD file to try to recover some of TODAYS
data from.
Screw server 2012 forever.
I will sell 2008 and SBS2011 Premium unitl it rots in hell like XP (of which there is NOTHING wrong with for the average, WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and QUICKBOOKS that all SMB's use. Its MS $GREED$ Grab the world by the B**ls and squeeze with all
your might to squeeze every dime you can out of *SMB* because big business is going to run thier 2003 Exchange and 2008 servers into ground before they switch to this garbage.
YOU CANNOT INSTALL EXCHANGE 2013 on DC , OR on R-DERP server.
Go buy another server license and server or MOVE TO THE CLOUD and get fleeced every month.
I have 30 DC/R-DERP/Exchange and SBS2011 Premium servers all running for years in perfect harmony, locked down with security so the users can't even WIGGLE with something they are not supposed to work with. They get their apps, cannot install anything
and all these servers are running just fine behind the firewall and perfectly save. The track record of this combination is 100% stable and is up 24/7/365 with no problems. Do yourself a favor and throw this 2012 into the river, you don't need
any weights because it is LEAD and will sink to the bottom by itself.
Why, you ask? Official is "Its for your protection" The real reason? To sell you more $700 server licences.
Maybe for SMB, we start selling Linux NAS Servers, host the Exchange in the cloud and be hearded like cattle to the Microsoft slaughterhouse. One way or another, you are going to bleed. A little each month to move to the cloud, or
a small fortune if you want to have it in house. Microsoft wants it to be more expensive to have in house. No more buying a server and running it for six years before you upgrade. They can't have in house servers competing with their cloud,
and small businesses are the low hanging fruit ripe for the pickin'. -
Installation fails on windows xp
Hi,
I have a legitimate copy of pagemaker 7.0 for windows and would like to install it on my laptop. I had already previously successfully installed it on my desktop computer.
When I double-click setup.exe, or when I try to add a new program through the control panel, it just dies or, rather, it doesn't do anything at all. The hourglass shows for a minute then the cursor comes back. I have searched all over the net and found some references to this (I think) but nothing that seems to actually address what to do (ok, I am not going to reload my whole system).
Just to make sure, I went back to my desktop computer and, sure enough, it loads right up.
Does this have to do with the 32-bit setup program (installshield)? Or...I tried a compatibility mode setting but that did nothing either, although I just guessed that it was Windows 95 compatible. I am at a real loss here. Any help would be most appreciated. I am sure I am just missing something obvious. Oh, I also copied the contents of the disk onto my hard drive, but got the same results. Basically, the installer just does not launch on the laptop.
Thanks,
DebbieIt should install…

Installation fails on Windows XP Profession SP 2
I've been trying to install Java Enterprise System 5, but it keeps failing during the "Publishing product information" phase when I use the setup.exe file.
When I use WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe it gives me the error: "You don't have permission to update Windows XP. Please contact the system administrator." even though I'm logged in as an administrator.
I've turned off the firewall, checked the registry, and look at several installation guides. None of them mention the problem I'm seeing. Any ideas?I checked that Oracle and Listner Services are Running and SET to Manual.

Adobe Air installation fails on Windows 8.1
Hi,
I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Air and when I try to open the AdobeAIRInstaller.exe file (also tried as administrator) nothing is done. I can see the installer file being opened on the Task Manager, but the CPU is not being used. The installation log goes like this:
[2014-07-12:18:13:16] Runtime Installer begin with version 14.0.0.110 on Windows 8 x86
[2014-07-12:18:13:16] Commandline is:

[2014-07-12:18:46:55] Commandline is:
[2014-07-12:18:46:55] No installed runtime detected
It keeps giving me the same message. By the way I have no other installation issues. It's only with Adobe AIR. Don't know if it's a common failure, but couldn't find any solution on the internet.
EDIT:
Yay i Fixed the Problem , here is the solution :
1. Open a command window, elevated as administrator
2. Navigate to the AdobeAIRInstaller.exe file
3. Run the command "AdobeAIRInstaller.exe -silent"
Hope it 'll help.It is unknown if you can install it in Win8, particularly the 64-bit system. It would generally be recommended that you buy the new version AA XI. If you have Win8, have you tried the install? Did you succeed, though some parts will likely fail in any case? Can you open Acrobat and Distiller? If the latter two are yes, then you will find that you will be missing the Adobe PDF printer and AcroTray will not function. You only alternative is to install a color PS printer, such as one from HP, change the name to Adobe PDF, and change the port to FILE. Assuming the rest works, you can then create PDFs by printing to the Adobe PDF printer and creating the resultant PS printer (may be a PRN extension). Open that file in Distiller and you should have a PDF. That would be the process, but have no idea if it works on Win8 or 8.1. Let us know the results if you try.
I have followed this process for both AA5 and AA7 on Win7 (32 and 64 bit system respectively). I don't use them there, but the process did work in both cases. -
