Discoverer desktop very slow

When I run some query in discoverer desktop, it take 2 minutes and more. When I take the query and run it on toad, the results appear in 93 ms.
I have tried to reduct th time take by desktop but nothing
Help me please.
Thank you

Hi,
You need to establish whether the problem is with the pc, the network or the database. So the first things you need to check are:
1. Is it a crosstab report, do you have the same issue if it is a table report?
2. How many rows does it return, do you have the same issue if you limit the rows to just a few?
3. Is it an Apps mode database mode EUL, if it is apps mode, you need to check the the users context in the database is not causing an issue?
4. Is this a general problem or a problem with a specific query?

  • Copying folders from external hd to mac pro desktop very slow

    Hi everyone,
I have been experience very slow download times when copying folder from my Lacie 30GB External HD to the desktop of my Mac Pro. For instances, it took 19 minutes to down load a folder with 300MB of contents to my desktop. The Lacie is "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" I ran Disk Utility on it and "the volume appears to be ok".
Any ideas on what is going down?
    Thanks...Stan

I would troubleshoot or dump the LaCie in favor of something else.
LaCie have been trouble enough in the past with FW ports, power adapters, shorting of cables, running very slow when connected off PCIe SATA using USB/eSATA cases.
But you never say if this is a FW800 case, or what interface, that is so slow. Resetting FW ports is a troubleshooting trick designed just for LaCie cases. Along with swapping cables and power adapter.
I would give all your drives a shot of Alsoft Disk Warrior to insure that the directory and file system are okay. And look at the hardware test in DW output for spare blocks vanishing on the drive.
Using SATA drive, case, and controller of course should be fast and done in seconds, not minutes.

  • Leopard installed -- G5 Desktop VERY slow and odd behavior

I installed Leopard on both my MacBook Pro and G5 dual 2.7Ghz. Works great on the laptop. Both have also had the combo update to 10.5.4., with permissions repaired before and after installation. The G5 is behaving oddly; very very slow on boot up, opening apps, such as preferences which takes 2-4 minutes simply to open, and responds inconsistently to mouse and clicking. Not sure what to do other than revert to OSX.4.11, a seemingly very stable version. Any ideas?

Thanks. I'll give that a shot, otherwise, I'm going to use SuperDuper to wipe the drive and restore it from a bootable backup that's running 10.4.11 and then try re-installing Leopard + combo. Cheers.

  • HELP !!! Discoverer Desktop/Plus Slowness

We have a view build on wip_discrete_jobs_v and hr_all_organization_units in APPS. When the view runs it returns at a very good speed. Then we build a disco report, the first time we open the report, it took 10 seconds yesterday. However, when we try to open the same report today from Desktop or Plus, it will takes *15-20 min* to get any result.
I'm not sure where the issue is: Could it be a bug in Disco? Or this is version issue? Or is there anything missing Administrator?
It seems the view itself is good in SQL.
    Please advise.
OracleBI Discoverer Administrator - Version 10.1.2.00.00
    Discoverer Administrator Client 10.1.2.45.46c
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (9.0.4.00.00)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.48.18)
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.48.18
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.48.18
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
End User Layer Library - 10.1.2.48.18

    Hi,
The Apps views such as wip_discrete_jobs_v are not really designed for reporting. This view contains calls to security packages and calls to project packages to fetch details project details. The time taken to process a call to these packages is very dependent on your Apps environment, for example, what responsibility you are using and the organisation for that responsibility. Also the number of calls made to these packages can change greatly depending on how the SQL is processed.
Discoverer uses a lot of in-line views and these views can be materialized within the query so that all the information in the view is stored in temporary space. There are also some large tables being queried here, therefore the execution plan can change dramatically depending on the database statistics stored for these tables. So for example, you can find that the query is run from Discoverer, Oracle decides to full scan the tables and materialized a view in the query forcing all the package calls to be made for every row in the table, hence the query takes ages to run.
On the other hand if the SQL is just run from SQL*Plus then a flattened version of the SQL is run without the in-line views and so there are many less calls to the packages, and these calls are quicker because the session hasn't been initialised with a responsibility.
So to summarise, I wouldn't recommend using these Apps views in reporting, it is better to write your own to do exactly what you want and achieve a better, more consistent response time. Secondly, you have no idea what is happening here unless you monitor the SQL being processed in the database, either by monitoring the V$SESSION and V$SQL_TEXT views or by tracing the session so that you can see the actual SQL and all the associated recursive SQL being run by the packages. Only when you understand how Oracle is processing your query will you will able to take action that will reliably improve performance.

  • Skype Desktop - very slow transfer speeds

Hi. Ever since 6.x was released, it became almost impossible to send files. What changed, and what can I do to fix this issue?
Please do not redirect me to that same "catch-all" thread for this issue. I am well aware that others have had this problem. Yes, I have the "Send anon usage/performance info" setting enabled.
I am getting speeds ~1-3KB/sec for every transfer, no matter the person or group
    Info:
    Windows 8.1 x64
    Skype Desktop v7.4.0.102
    Core2Quad 2.8ghz / 8GB RAM / Geforce 550 GTX Ti
    75/75Mbit ISP connection
As you can see, I have MORE than enough resources to send files at my highest connection speeds (10.1MB/sec). I have tried setting static ports for skype and allowing them through my router, tried different combinations of Skype connection settings, turning off my OS firewall, and even tried setting my machine in the DMZ. Nothing has increased Skype's ability to send files quickly. So, what is going on?
EDIT :: Just uploaded my DXDiag results in ZIP archive
    Attachments:
    DxDiag.zip ‏12 KB

Did you get a reply to this?  I have been having similar issues with extremely slow file transfers.  It seems independant of who I am sending the files to.  Also I notice when I am sending a  file not only does it go slowly it slows downmy whole internet (so it seems to be using a whole lot more bandwidth than just the data of the actual file I am sending).  I have the latest skype and IE and never had issues previously.

  • Remote Desktop To Windows Server Very Slow

I have OS X 10.6 running on a MBP and a problem that seems to be growing worse over time. I am using Remote Desktop (both CoRD and Microsoft Remote Desktop) to gain access to remote servers. One is a Windows Server 2008, the others are Windows Server 2003. Initially all was fine, but over the last 2 months access to the W2K server has crawled to a halt. Now, when accessing the other servers I'm having the same issue. I have tried different clients for remote access, used different high speed Internet connections (FIOS, a private network) and the result is the same. Very, very slow connections.
I have also tried using a different login on the laptop to no avail.
I booted Windows on my MBP using Parralels Desktop and tried using Windows RDC to the same servers; that works fine. In fact, I can access the servers very quickly using my iPhone's Remote Access software using the same Internet connection (home WiFi) as my MacBook Pro.
So I can only assume it's an issue with OS X 10.6, since different devices using the same Internet connection can make a much faster connection. But I can't find any similar posts on the issue.
    Any ideas are appreciated!

Desktop is an imac is 10.6.8 running firefox v 3.6.16 and runs well. My mac laptop also 10.6.8 automatically upgraded to 6.0 and runs very slow, and I do not like the layout of the toolbar. How do I get my laptop back to 3.16.6

Now it is clear which it wasn't before! We can't see what you have done or not so a good descriptions does help when communicating.
If you have done all you say and some restarts too I would advise you to do the install of 10.6 from the installation disc. Restart the computer and then install the 10.6.6 Combo update. You just install "on top" of what you have. No archiving or formatting.

  • Since download of Firefox Hello desktop & laptop both on Windows 7 are very slow even after refresh, download history removed and anti virus software turned off

Since download of Firefox Hello my home desktop & laptop, both on Windows 7, are very slow to open. I have refreshed firefox, removed download history and turned off the anti virus software in extensions. All the plugins are up to date. Can we revert back to Firefox without Firefox Hello?

Firefox Hello is simply a wrapper for technology already in Firefox, it doesn't negatively impact performance if you aren't using it. Are you saying that your entire computer is slow or just Firefox?

    Hi robfromkinglake west,
Try and isolate the issue.  Check if it's only with this drive.
Check the drive with Disk Utility

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck.  You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.  If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
    Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top.  If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance.  Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.
It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.  Which model Macbook Pro are you using?

  • IMac very slow, no Dock, Desktop Background cycling every 1 to 5 sec

So i have always had the issue of the main display not coming back on from sleep.... I have given up on trying to fix it so i just deal with it. But i really needed my mac and so forced it to shut down because it seemed to be acting strange and i could not see the main screen just my external monitor.
Anyway when it restarted i now have a very slow machine.... creazy slow. Every click is a delay. My background which normally cycles through the standard images every 30 min does so every 1 to 5 seconds. And i have no Dock.
My machine is an intel iMac.. 27" late 2009, 8 gigs of ram 1 tera of HD. 60 gb free. 2.8 ghz i7
    Oh and OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
I have tried resetting pram and plists for the main things including the Dock. I repaired permissions and did a disk repair.
    I am kind of stuck.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried changing the Dock settings but they dont make any difference. I also tried changing the desktop background settings and they dont do anything either and they do not save their settings when i reboot etc...

  • Remote Desktop on Yosemite is very very slow

    Hello,
Using Remote desktop from the App store (8.0.12) is very slow on Yosemite, it constantly uses over 300% CPU. This product is unusable in this state.
I am on the local network, connecting to an IP address of a Windows 7 Desktop.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does this issue occurs on your single device?
Please try to test with other device and check. If might not working well with your device then need to verify your device setting.
Also please provide log for further research.

  • Remote Desktop to netbook very slow and laggy

Remote Desktop to netbook over local ethernet is very slow and laggy. Netbook is Atom N280 with 2GB RAM and GPU with WDDM 1.0 driver. On Windows 7 all works fine even with an Aero Glass enabled for remote session. Now DWM consumes 10 to 25% permanently
so I think it's a DWM problem. Network traffic is only up to 6Mb/s over 100Mbit LAN connection. Is there a way to connect to Windows 8 netbook useful way?

Hi, sorry for my late reply but I didn't get notification about your post. I tried these settings and it is laggy same way. I read on Internet desktop composition in Windows 8 is always enabled regardless of RDP client settings. Display adapter is Mobile
Intel 946 Express Chipset Family. I tried to install Standard VGA driver, but it is also very slow. I'll try clean install to VHD now to avoid any 3rd party software impact.
Edit: I tried and it's slow even after a clean install.
Edit2: It is an Intel 945 Express Chipset Family.

  • My desktop is running very slow...

I have a Mac OSX 10.5.8 with 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo...system is running REALLY slow in terms of navigating the net.  Cannot open Firefox and sites like Yahoo, are now taking forever to open up.  Memory use is good, not running out.  I am not really computer savvy, so please respond in laymens terms :+).  I have read that Mac users don't need to defrag b/c OS does it for us...so I am not sure what to do or what the problem could be.  Please help!

How much RAM do you have?
How much free space on your hard drive?
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up* as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here:   http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions and here:  http://www.opendns.com/technology/opendns-vs-google-public-dns/ )
and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
    * as confirmed by: http://lifehacker.com/5835775/google-dns-and-opendns-users-are-getting-a-web-spe ed-boost
    and Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
but results may vary depending on where you are located.
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
