Discoverer EUL and workbook documentor

Recently, my current client asked me if there was any easy way to document all the EUL information in one file. I generated the below pdf document
Check this http://www.appsbi.com/discoverer_eul_snapshot_report.pdf
Sample Discoverer EUL and Workbook Generated Document,
but before I present this to my client I would like your opinion on whether the document is presentable, does it have all the necessary information, any flaws, any suggestions?
Thanks

I have played a bit with info-captor, but to no great detail.
I agree it boils down to ease of use and ease of maintenance, but proficiency with a development tool also has a big part to play in it. Where I would choose reports or even Disco, you chose Infocaptor, and others would use yet another tool. Client requirements also play a part in it as well - mine wanted a PDF available from their intranet. So I am pushing the pdf out of OR, and making it available on the web. If they had wanted a dashboard, or something a bit more interactive, then OR was not going to be the appropriate tool.
As I mentioned in my previous post - it is a slick looking report. But as Michael commented, it looks to be directed more to an admin than an end user (which may be fine depending on the audience).

    Hi,
Most of the components of this document uses the seeded EUL workbook queries. The problem with the EUL workbooks is there is still a manual process involved in running each of the worksheets whereas this document generation is completely auto and fully configurable.

  • Discoverer EUL Management workbooks

We're running Discoverer 10.1.2.0.2. I didn't do the install, but remember seeing something about workbooks that can help you interrogate the EUL setup. Does anyone know where I can locate those?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
In the Oracle Discoverer Admin home on the workstation there should be EUL5.eex file in the discoverer/sql directory. If you import this file into your EUL the EUL management business area, folders and workbooks will be created.
    Hope that helps,

  • Migrate discoverer eul and reports to obiee

    hi
is it possible to migrate from discoverer 9i to obiee 11g?
    thanks

    Hello
It depends how simple your workbooks are. The more complex they are the more difficult they are to migrate and some Discoverer features will be lost during the translations. Some Discoverer features will not migrate at all.
At this moment in time, with the current state of DOMA, I am coming down on the side of starting from scratch with OBIEE. There are, in my opinion, just too many of Discoverer's nice features that will not migrate. Starting from scratch will allow you to take advantage of all that OBIEE has to offer. Migrating could limit you to what Discoverer had to offer.
You could try a migration and see how much work there is still left to do. However, before you can do that you will need to upgrade Discoverer to 10.1.2.1 at the minimum. If you have already upgraded Discoverer to 10.1.2.1 or 11g you should be able to migrate the metadata. The only supported OBIEE version at this time is 10.1.3.4.1. After you have migrated to 10.1.3.4.1 you can then upgrade it to 11g.

  • Discoverer 10g and R12 error - invalid username/password

    Hi all
I have R12 and Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1 only (user and admin) on the same Windows machine.
I can connect to Discoverer as the APPS user with no problem, create EULs and workbooks, and see data.
However, I cannot connect as an Apps User. I have copied the DBC file to the Discoverer Oracle home (c:\\oracle\BIToolsHome_1).
I have not updated any opmn.xml files yet as I don't know which ones to update (if any as this is only desktop).
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Hussein, yes, I completed all the steps. Here is what I have done:
    - Install Discoverer 10.1.2 from eDelivery web site
    - Create secure folder in
    - Copy .dbc file, and name it vis.dbc all lower case.
    - Create FND_SECURE and FND_TOP system variables, populated with <ORACLE_HOME>/secure and <ORACLE_HOME> respectively. <ORACLE_HOME> is C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1.
None of the above has worked.
I have also set the s_appserverid_authentication to OFF in $INST_TOP/appl/admin/VIS_x2o12.xml and then run Autoconfig on the Apps tier, but this has also not worked.
Can you think of anything else to try?
And can you think why I can access Discoverer with SYSADMIN user?
    Thanks

  • Discoverer EUL Workbooks - Query Statistics, Workbooks Queried By User

    Hi there.
I've just ran Discoverer EUL workbooks and found out a nice functionality on one of those queries. It's on EUL Query Statistics workbook, "Workbooks Queried By User" worksheet (and others).
If you take a look at the "Worksheet Usage" column, you'll notice that there's an effect that looks a lot like a "progress bar". According to the times that worksheet was used, this bar advances or retract.
I noticed it's a calculated column, but when I try to edit it, it shows no more than COUNT_DISTINCT("Date & Sheet"). I got a little confused on how this COUNT_DISTINCT shows that "progress bar"....
So... how can I implement this on my DM queries?
    TIA.

You need Desktop. When you format the data, there is a check box to show graphical bars. This option is not available in Plus, but the bars will show up when the report is displayed in Plus.

  • EUL and Viewer Question

    Hi,
I've multiple EUL's(OASIS_US, XXXEUL_US) on the database. I'm able to access both the EUL's from Discoverer Administrator and Discoverer Desktop 9i to create folders and workbooks. However, from iViewer I'm able to access XXXEUL_US - EUL only and not OASIS_US. Could you please shed light on what I could be missing asap.
    Thanks
    T

    Hi T,
Looks like you are using Oracle E-Business. If you launch
discoverer viewer from E_Business then your ICX profile settings determine
which EUL you be connecting to.
The ICX profile settings is in your E-Business profile settings.

  • FA seeded BA and workbooks

    Good morning,
    Database 11g (11.1.0.7.0)
    Discoverer Administrator (11.1.1.3.0)
    E-Business Suite 12.1.3
    Discoverer schema is 'DISCO_F'
Wa have already custom BAs, folders and workbooks.
We would like to implement the seeded Business Areas and workbooks for Fixed Assets in the EUL.
    We did the following stesps
    1. run request « Generate Business Views by Application » for "Assets":
Source View Name Generated View Name
    FAFV_ACCT_PRDS FAFG_ACCT_PRDS
    FAFV_ASSETS FAFG_ASSETS
    FAFV_ASSET_ASSIGNS FAFG_ASSET_ASSIGNS
    FAFV_ASSET_BKS FAFG_ASSET_BKS
    FAFV_ASSET_CATS FAFG_ASSET_CATS

    FAFV_SRC_LNS FAFG_SRC_LNS
    FAFV_TRANS_HDRS FAFG_TRANS_HDRS
    FAFV_TRANS_LINES FAFG_TRANS_LINES
    2. for a test I copy the "fiifasstbkflo.eex" file on my local drive
    3. with Oracle Administrator, I import the file with warning message. Then I assign the new orphean folder called "Asset Book" in a my new "Fixed Assets" Business Area
I check from Discoverer-Plus if I have a new workbook: No
    4. with Oracle Administrator, I re-import the same file, and this time no error message: "Import sucessfully"
I check from Discoverer-Plus if I have a new workbook: No
What are the steps I missed?
Do we have to import more .eex files?
How can I check we have the latest patch of R12 seeded componants?
Thanks in advance for your help,

  • Querying EUL for Workbooks That Use Specific Folders

I have not been able to find the proper setup for this task. In Discoverer Administrator, if I click on a folder|click delete|impact, the workbooks that are displayed do not agree with the workbooks returned if I query the EUL. Does someone have a good, accurate solution to the problem?
    Thanks,
    Jerre

    Jerre,
Please clarify your question with this additional information:
In the Confirm Folder Delete dialog, are you choosing "Delete from this Business Area" or "Delete from the End User Layer"? You will only see the workbook dependencies when choosing "Delete from the End User Layer" and then clicking the "Impact" button. Even when deleting a folder from all business areas results in it becoming an orphan folder (and not available to dependent workbooks), the "Impact" button will not show you workbook dependencies if you have "Delete from this Business Area" selected.
When you say that you are querying the EUL to find dependent workbooks, what query are you actually running? If you are doing this in SQL*PLUS, show the query you are using. If you are querying the EUL using a Discoverer worksheet, show the SQL query behind that. If your query uses EUL5_QPP_STATS it may not be giving you accurate results.
And finally, which of your two methods produces the correct result?
See this discussion thread if you haven't already read it:
"Dependents Tab in DiscovererAdmin using sql on EUL" Re: Recreate Properties>Dependents Tab in DiscovererAdmin using sql on EUL
and this: Re: How to find the folder for workbooks?

  • Discoverer EUL to OLAP

Im new to using Discoverer technologies, I would like to ask if it is possible to convert an EUL (End User Layer) to OLAP (Online Analytic Processing) Anaytic Workspace. I would like to create a customized web applications using BI Beans. I already have my Discoverer Business Areas. Can I use these business areas into my BI beans application. I've read that the Discoverer Viewer is made from BI Beans... So Im wondering if it is possible...

    Hi
Sorry this is not possible. There is no relatioship between an EUL and an analytic workspace. You'll have to do this manually I'm afraid.

  • How to remove connect and workbook link after pressing Save as,Print,Export

I have to remove the connect link and workbook link which appear AFTER pressing Save as,Printable Page,Export in a discoverer viewer report. I had already removed the link in the report itself with changing the uix files, but after pushing the link for export, save as or print the link Connect and Workbook still appear.
I know that I have to change something in UIX Files, but which one and what I have to change...? Have anyone an idea? Thanx for fast reply, it´s a urgent problem.
in addition: In metalink, otn and google were no solution...

If the tone really is a single (or at least narrow band) frequency like the picture shows, I'd try the Notch Filter on the Audition/Effects/Filter and EQ menu.  It might take some playing around to get the exact frequency and tweak the amount of cut you apply vs. the effect it will have on surrounding frequencies--but if you can get the right balance, you can then easily apply this to the whole of every file.
Sorry, can't help on the Premiere Pro question since I only use Audition.

  • Discoverer 10g and Oracle Financials

I am a newbie. Does Discoverer run against Oracle Financials - Project Accounting in particular?
    Thanks,
    Cherie Machler

    Hi,
Yes, Discoverer can run against Oracle Financials. You need to create a Discoverer EUL (End User Layer) that maps to the underlying Oracle financials tables and views and gives a business interpretation of the data in Oracle Financials. You can either use the EUL that is shipped with Oracle Financials Intelligence, create your own or do a bit of both.

  • Discoverer EUL Maintenance from Apps

    Hello
To add setup changes and also key accounting and descriptive flexfields into Discoverer I think we need to regenerate the EUL views by running certain concurrent programs in Apps.
On checking, I see 2 programs Discoverer End User Layer Maintenance, 1 for Financials Intelligence and 1 for Purchasing Intelligence. Are these the ones?
Does anybody know about all the Apps concurrent programs to refresh Discoverer EULs with changes?

well ... I hope they got their solution as it was over a year ago according to the original date of the post 8-)
It sounds like you're talking about the BIS views in Oracle Apps. If so, yes, there's a process you run in Oracle Apps - as a particular user - to regenerate the BIS views in the database - and to pick up changes you've made in desc. flexfields, key flexfields, etc.
Once done, the views in the database will be the correct 'generated' ones. However, you now have to bring the defintions into Disco EUL.
You log into Disco Admin - and this is important - GO IN AS THE CORRECT USER who owns the database view (can't remember, but I think it's the account / responsibility that just did the regen in Apps). If you don't go in as the correct user (ie: you go in as a Disco EUL Admin, the owner of the EUL, sysadmin, etc.) - you're hosed. When you perform a refresh (and of course, don't check what changes it's talking about), then you'll lose all your views in the EUL (don't ask how I know this!).
When you're in as the correct person, you perform a refresh on all BIS business areas, Disco Admin will compare your EUL's definition of the views vs the fancy, new ones in the database and add the columns (or may take away if so, old ones) to the ones in the EUL.
However - just a note - if you're using a newer version of Oracle Apps (ie: including patches thay may have been done) than the last time you brought the BIS views into the EUL, you obviously won't see any new BIS views in the database that may have been added in the new version. The regen will compile them for you, but as you're performing a refresh, you may miss some hot, new, fantastic, save-the-company, views.
That's a different story and one where you might want to make sure that the .eex file (that comes with upgrades and many patches) is the newest one used in the EUL when importing BIS view definitions.
    Sounds like fun ...

    Hello amib004,
As far as I know Windows Update can't be run in safe mode. With that being said I have seen where installing multiple updates can conflict with each other. Try disabling all updates from installing and installing the failed updates one at a time.
