Discoverer Managed Summaries.

Here is something that I gather from manuals of Discoverer 4.
"Some Applications Database Views contain row level security and return differing result sets depending upon the currently active responsibility. This means that the Summary Table or Materialized View (MV) (8.1.6+ databases) would contain different data depending on the responsibility of the user that refreshed the table.
If a user performs a query against the detail data associated with such a Managed Summary Folder, and Summary Redirection is performed, the user will be told that no rows satisfy this
criteria (this ensures that the user does not see data they should not have access to). As an administrator, you should ensure that Summary Folders that are based on Applications
Secure Views or Applications Business Views are created as External (rather than Managed).
Managed Summaries Folders on data without Applications row level security are completely unaffected. Users can continue to use External Summary Tables. If the External Summary Table is registered against an object with Applications row level security, it is the responsibility of the administrator to make sure the External Summary Table provides secure access.
Some views with row-level security, support "public" rows (particularly the Apps Human Resources). So sometimes Managed Summary Tables or MVs contain small amounts of data."
Now the question:
1.How can I know that a particular item is based on Applications secure Views?
2.Hhow will I know that particular secure view has row level security on that?
Any lessons leart, guide lines on this from people who have taken this path? Any relevant suggestions are welcome!!
Thanks,
Vinay.

That may be true for summaries, but query-rewrite could also occur once the query hits the database, and the optimizer determines that a materialized view would be better. I haven't experimented with this much, but you might be able to take the Disco generated SQL and run an explain plan in SQL plus (or TOAD or SQL Developer). You could also use SQL plus, and trace the session.

  • How to send Discoverer worksheets in an email

    Hi All,
I am interested in setting up my discoverer with email sending capabilities. I have searched the net briefly and came over this link:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b13987/getting_started.htm#CIHGGDHJ
This link says something like: "Discoverer sends the email using the IMAP settings specified by the Discoverer manager. "
Where is Discoverer Manager? How do you start this application?
I have limited access to the different applications, and there is limited knowledge about these applications where I work, so I need some input from you all.
Is it possible to set the smtp_out_server values for the database instead?
    Thank you.

Uhh, Discoverer Manager does NOT refer to an application. This refers to a position, the employee who is assigned to be the Discoverer Manager. Look at manual Application Server Control Help and the manual Oracle Enterprise Manager Advanced Configuration. This is handled in Oracle AS (Application Server) area, not in Discoverer itself. Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Another option is to export to Excel and then email the Excel spreadsheet.

  • Specified workbook not found (Discoverer 4i with Ora Apps)

I am using Discoverer 4i with Oracle 11i.
When I try to open any workbook via any responsibility (of Oracle Apps) I get Error
‘Specified workbook not found: <workbook name>’
When I click OK on error, all my work books are listed.
I have made sure users and responsibility have security access for Business Area
Also made sure the workbook is shared with users and responsibility
Any idea how I get rid of this error.
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi,
The Oracle Apps uses the workbook developer key to locate and open the workbook. The Oracle Apps function that opens the workbook contains the developer key in the parameters for the function. This must match the developer key for the workbook shown in the Discoverer Manager Workbook -> Properties -> Identifier.
    Hope that helps,

  • External Tables using Discoverer

I am mapping the contents of a complex query to an external table. I am mapping the SUM() of each field to the external table. BUT... when I create a workbook using that complex folder, Discoverer correctly uses the external table but when I look at the actual query that is generated it performs a 'GROUP BY' on the the summary table (i.e my external table) prior to doing the query that I originally wanted.
This is different than if Discoverer was managing the summary table. A very simple example is:
    External Table Query
    SELECT
    SUM(alias_avar)
    FROM
    (select id, SUM(avar) alias_avar
    FROM
    summarytable
    group by id)
    Discoverer Managed
    Select SUM(avar) from summarytable
Thank you in advance for helping me with any ideas or workarounds.
    Mike

Just a word...I have had NO LUCK with Oracle9i external tables accessing network drive with Windows Server 2003 spk1.
I have read all the tips from Metalink and forums and nothing that works on Windows 2000 or NT work for 2003..Has anyone had any luck with this?
UNC or mapped letters..The best I could do was GIVE EVERYPERMISSION and create a SUPER users with ALL groups and still then all external tables could do was move it to the error folder with a OS errors saying it could not open the file. I have the same setup locally and it opens fine.
In fact UNC was the only way I could even touch the files..mapped drive letter did nothing ...

  • Cisco Fabric Manager 5.0.7

    Dear Team!
I have software Cisco Fabric Manager 4.2a (in SAN management server based on Windows Server 2003) Standalone version, which managed our existing fabrics (we have 2) now. In case of OS "Windows 2003 server" going to End of Life/Support, we started prepare new SAN management server based on Windows Server 2008. On this new server I installed new version of software Cisco Fabric Manager 5.0.7 Standalone.
Question: Is it possible to manage by old Cisco Fabric Manager 4.2 our fabrics after discovere our (existing) fabric, from new SAN management server with C.F.M 5.0.7? Or after discovere management function of fabrics will take new server? Can I manage one fabric from two different servers with Cisco Fabric Manager Standalone software (I mean we have production SAN management server with C.F.M. and SAN management server with C.F.M. for DR site)?

    Hello,
    Thanks for your reply!
I need two servers with FM as temporary, for implementation and test period only. After that, we will decommission old server and use only one. I asked because I never do discovery existing fabrics in FM, and not sure that if after discovery our fabrics from new server I can manage them from old server. In this case I raised this question.
As I understood that I can manage our fabrics from two different servers (with different version of FM), but not at one time. Please can you confirm.
    Thanks

  • Discoverer and potential need for IDS

I am reviewing 10g Application Server Enterprise Edition, as I've a need for Oracle Reports and Portal to distribute the reports company wide. In the search I became aware that Discoverer was also included with this bundle. And the features are quite an upgrade to those available with Reports.
So here is the question, I've been informed that in order to utalize Discoverer one also needs the features available within the Internet Developer Suite else Discoverer is not usable.
So I went off to research, just what it is that IDS provides that Discoverer "needs". But thought I would post here and ask the community for a summary of why IDS is needed, while I read the white papers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Adam

    Ahh, here we are:
1.4 What is Oracle Discoverer Administrator?
Discoverer Administrator is used for the initial setup and ongoing maintenance of the End User Layer. Users of Discoverer Administrator are called Discoverer managers. The Discoverer manager performs a variety of tasks including creation and maintenance of business areas, folders, summary table creation, and managing end user access. Discoverer provides extensive defaulting capability to enable managers to rapidly implement their end user environment. Discoverer Administrator is a required component of a complete Discoverer installation and is a component of Oracle Developer Suite
So in order to use Discoverer, which is included within 10g AS Enterprise Edition one also needs a seperate liscence for Oracle Developer Suite.

  • Errors while Creating Summary

While creating Summary on some of the folders based on custom views using ASM or mannually, I am getting this fine grain access policy error.
ORA-30372: fine grain access policy conflicts with materialized view
While creating Summary using query statistics, I am getting this following error.
ORA-30353: expression not supported for query rewrite
We are using Discoverer 10g. We have an APPS mode EUL and I am doing this by logging into Discoverer Admin as EUL owner, which is EUL_US. This user has all the previlages specified in Discoverer Admin Doc.
ORA-30372, I could figure out is the problem with tables HZ_ORGANIZATION_PROFILES and HZ_PERSON_PROFILES which I used in the view for the folder I need to summarize.
Tried creating materialized views on these folders seperately in SQL plus, but have the same error.
Can Somebody help me to get through this?

    Hi
I am not saying you cannot use summaries but that you have to be aware of the underlying security. Most of the time you will need to use an external summary table not one that has been created for you by Discoverer.
The following snippet, which will help, is taken from the Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Administration Guide, found here: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/B13916_04/orapps_supp.htm#sthref1165
As the Discoverer manager of an Oracle Applications mode EUL you must be aware of the following:
    1. Some Oracle Applications database views contain row level security and return differing result sets depending upon the currently active responsibility. This means that materialized views (summary tables in Oracle Standard Edition databases) will contain different data depending on the responsibility of the user refreshing the external summary folder.
    2. A summary folder based on an Oracle Applications secure view or Oracle Applications business view must be registered in Discoverer as an external summary folder (for more information, see Chapter 14, "How to create summary folders based on external summary tables").
    3. Where an external summary folder is mapped against a table or view with Oracle Applications row level security, it is your responsibility as Discoverer manager to make sure the external table or view provides secure access. If you are not sure, ask your database administrator.
    4. If a managed summary folder is found that satisfies a query (based on data with Oracle Applications row level security), Discoverer informs the end user that no rows satisfy the query criteria. Discoverer does this to ensure that end users do not see data they should not have access to.
    5. If a managed summary folder is found that satisfies a query (based on data without Oracle Applications row level security), Discoverer returns the rows unaffected. Discoverer does this because the data can be safely accessed by all end users.
    6. Some Oracle Applications views with row-level security support "public" rows (particularly Human Resources).
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Summary Re-direction

    Hi,
We have a dw in Discoverer using externally managed summaries. Is there a way to determine if the summary is being used in the query that I am running ?
    Thanks

That may be true for summaries, but query-rewrite could also occur once the query hits the database, and the optimizer determines that a materialized view would be better. • Format Data doesn't work?

    Hi
I want to see numbers in Discoverer formatted as set in Administrator, which is
    999G999G990D99.
The Format Data dialog box tells me that 'Default' formats numbers as they have been set up by your Discoverer manager, using the format 9999999999.
Only, I am my own Discoverer manager and I set up 999G999G990D99.
I can find that setting in EUL5_EXPRESSIONS.IT_FORMAT_MASK and I can see changes done with Administrator.
Why don't they show up in Discoverer?
    Hints appreciated
    Franziska

Instead of selecting 'Default' go to more Number
formats and seelct the one you want.In which dialog do you find these 'more number formats'?
That will become the new default format.I need different formats for different columns. So one default won't do.
    Hope this helps!Afraid not.
    Thanks

  • Export and import of Apps EUL

I have a Apps EUL and use an Apps user id to work in Discoverer Administrator. This is what the Oracle documentation says and it has been working fine.
Now I want to export the EUL but when I start the process I get a message that the user does not have access to all the objects and that only the accessible objects will be exported. Shouldn't the Discoverer Manager/Administrator be able to do a full export?
To get around this problem, I have now been advised to use a database user (the EUL owner) to do the export and import with. Is this the correct way? The Oracle documentation suggest that a database user should never administrate the Apps EUL. Are exporting and importing somehow exluded form this rule?
    Thanks!

    Hi Aparna!
The Apps EUL was created using a database user. Since then, the EUL has been administered by a Apps user that is dedicated to EUL administration.
The documentation actually recommend that you create the Apps EUL with a database user and from there on administer the Apps EUL with the Apps user SYSADMIN. My company policy doesn't allow me to use SYSADMIN so I have a "custom" Apps user that I use to do all EUL administration. If at all possible, you should try to use SYSADMIN.
The guides and website don't really have a step by step guidance as far as I can remember, more explanatory. I would suggest an email to Michael Armstrong-Smith of the learndiscoverer website. He has helped me alot with this particular subject!

  • Doubt regarding scheduling of reports

    Hi All,
I have a Discoverer Report, which has 7 different worksheets. Each worksheet takes approximately 5-6 hours to complete, so I scheduled this report.
Now the ques is if I have scheduled to run this report, all the worksheets will run parallely at the scheduled time or they will be run one by one.
When will the output be available to me ?
    Regards,
    Ankur

    Hi ankur,
'if I have scheduled to run this report, all the worksheets will run parallely at the scheduled time or they will be run one by one'According to my personal experience and what i know.I can say is when you schedule it will ask you, do you want to schedule one sheet or multiple sheets.
For example:-As said you have 7 worksheets(sheets) in a workbook then you have to mention all the 7 worksheets names in the schedule and select the time, date and repeated schedule or not. The path is
    File/Manage Workbooks/Scheduling
The limit on the number of scheduled workbooks restricts the number of scheduled workbooks that can be maintained at any one time. As the Discoverer manager, you specify this limit on the "Privileges dialog: Privileges tab". If the user exceeds their limit, Discoverer Plus displays a message and the workbook is not scheduled.
The job_queue_processes value controls the maximum number of jobs that can be run at any one time on the server.
    Hope this helps you.
    Best Wishes,
    Kranthi.
