Discoverer Olap Plus - Drill to Detail using URL's

We are using the "Manage Links" feature in Discoverer Plus to send dimension value names in a URL. As part of the "Manage Links" feature, the user is given the opportunity to choose which dimension values for the selected cells they want to include in the URL.
We are attempting to create URL's to drill from Discoverer Plus to more detailed Oracle Reports, which will use the dimension values in sql statements . One problem we noticed is for each dimension we can not select multiple values to send in the URL.
For example;
I have a URL I want to append selected dimension values from Discoverer Plus.
We have 2 dimensions each containing 5 dimension values. We use Discoverer Plus to filter down to 2 dimension values for each dimension to be included in our url.
Time: Nov2007, Dec2007
Division: USCCSLT, USCCLSY
Measure: Flux
URL:
https://corpdev.ffmb.com:11228/reports/rwservlet?RPT_TEST_XLS=<TIME:VALUE>, <DIV:VALUE>
When the link executed, the EXIT URL only contains the first dimension value for each dimension. I have included the exit URL below:
Result:
https://corpdev.ffmb.com:11228/reports/rwservlet?RPT_TEST_XLS=Nov2007,USCCSLT
It should contain Nov2007, Dec2007, USCCSLT, USCCLSY.
I've tried a variety to things in the Manage Links, but it always sends out just one dimension value.
According to the choices given in "Manage Links", it is not supposed to work this way.
I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong, because I don't see many posts here related to creating Discoverer Plus URL's.
If anyone encountered this and came up with a solution, I'd be interested to read your comments.
Thanks,
Michael

  • Export to Excel using URL in Discoverer Plus

    Using Discoverer 4i Plus.
Using URL arguments I want to export to Excel automatically. I see that if I was using Discoverer Viewer it would be something like fm=xls. Is there similar code for doing this with Plus?
    Thanks!

Maybe it's possible, but I doubt it.
Reason is that you're asking the URL to run the report and then once done export out the values and I just don't think the 'i' - or now 'g' versions support this.
This was why the command line interface with the Desktop version was so popular as this is exactly the kind of thing you can do, plus much more.
I checked the documentation for Plus and can find nothing about doing this in the URL. Maybe someone will say otherwise, but with Plus I don't think it's possible.

  • Discoverer viewer in portal or Drill to detail in Disco report in Portal

    Hi
Is it possible to embed discoverer viewer into Portal page. I know one way, I can achieve this in older versions by using <IFRAME src="worksheet url"></iframe> as HTML portlet. But, the problem here is that, our Discoverer viewer is SSO protected. So,I don't want user to single sign on again, as they have already have done that when they got into portal.
My second question is , I have developed Page-Detail report in Disco plus, also I have Drill to Detail in the same report. Drill to Detail is created using "Manage Link" option. When I deploy this report into Portal using Disco Portlet provider, firstly in portal it is not showing the Page Item, also the Drill through link also is not showing.
Any help on the above questions would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks
    Balaji

    Hi
Firstly thank you very much for your response.
The Disco report I have is a Discoverer Plus report with Drill to Detail to another workbook(developed through manage link). But this Drillable link is not showing in the published Disco portlet. Are you saying that it should in the published disco portlet? .. As posted in previous response , I know this would work from Analyze link(which basically lauches viewer)..
But users would like to see this drillable link in the report in portal page itself(which means on the published portlet itself). To achieve this only, I used Iframes in Html portlet and showing the Discoverer viewer url. It works fine, but only thing is each time user naviges to portal page, it executes the report which takes some time. I am trying to avoid the execution process. I think one solution is I can just schdule these Disco reports and that way it will not query the database each time. I was wondering if there is any other solution maybe I am missing
    Thanks

  • Drill to Detail - Discoverer Viewer

I created a worksheet using discoverer plus with drill to detail option. It works fine in discoverer plus. But i don't know how to use this in discoverer viewer. Anyone knows how 'Drill to Detail' option can be used in Viewer?
    I am using discoverer 10g (10.1.2)
    Thanks

While regular drills and drill to URL links and worksheet links are all available in Viewer, drill-to-detail is not yet available in Viewer.

  • Discoverer 4i Plus returns no data when using views with db link references

I am using Discoverer 41 Plus to view reports online.
When I create a worksheet based on a view, that only references local tables, everything is OK and Disco plus shows the output OK.
When I create a worksheet based on a view, that references a Database link, Disco plus gives me an "Query caused no data to be returned" error.
Is this to be expected from Discoverer Plus?
    Thanks - Sue.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the default position (and default aggregate) for the EUL folder item? I can see that some of the folders have number type items with default position 'Data Point' and others have these with default position of 'Top or Side'. I'm totally stabbing around in the dark here; looking at EUL folders which exhibit the problem and those which don't.
I've tried changing one field to 'Data Point' and it hasn't helped. Will try changing the join items now I think.
If anyone has any comments, would be v. grateful as I'm looking at dropping folders which have quite a bit of code around them and trying to re-create them exactly, which is a risky and horrible solution.

  • Printing failure using Discoverer OLAP

I've got a user who cannot print from Discoverer OLAP. When he attempts to print, he gets the print dialogue box, but when he selects OK, the dialogue box just disappears and nothing happens. It just doesn't seem to spool correctly. He can print from Discoverer relational just fine. Thanks.

    Dave.
I just wanted to let you know that you're not being ignored (as you can see by the number of views to your thread), but IMO the problem is that Disco with OLAP has a much smaller audience due to it's new-ness (new word there) and many just haven't tried it yet.

  • Privilege setting in Discoverer OLAP

    Hi,
One of my customer has the following issue:
Powerful role OLAP_USER is assigned to the role D4OPUB, on first-time creation of a
Discoverer catalog. However OLAP_USERS has a lot of system privilege, like create table,
    create dimension.
We have a number of Discoverer OLAP end users who would just read worksheets thru the Discoverer
Viewer (i.e. need to access the Discoverer catalog), and thus do not need those privilege of
OLAP_USERS. Our DBA will seperately grant select-only rights over the corresponding OLAP analytic
    workspace to end users
    So what can we do:
    1) Any suggestions to accomplish this?
    2) Can OLAP_USERS role (or D4OPUB role)be revoked from the user without any issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Padmanabh.

    Hi Padmanabh
Chapter 16 of my Discoverer 10g Handbook is dedicated to using Discoverer with OLAP and if you don't have a copy I would urge you to get hold of one.
I have taken the following extract from my book:
You can add users to the Discoverer Catalog either using Oracle Enterprise Manager, or using the Java command-line utility. Users have to be added to the Discoverer Catalog before they can connect to Discoverer Plus for OLAP.
To add or remove a user from the Discoverer Catalog using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Control or Grid Control, use the following workflow:
    1. Connect to the Discoverer Catalog home page within Oracle Enterprise Manager as before.
    2. Click the Manage link.
    3. Enter the connection details for the Discoverer Catalog.
    4. Click Authorize Users and Roles.
    5. You will then be presented with a list of available database users and roles, and a list of those users and roles that are currently authorized to access the Discoverer Catalog.
    6. Select the users and roles that you want to access the Discoverer Catalog. If you add a role, all users with that role automatically have access to the Catalog. Any users or roles that you authorize for Discoverer Catalog use are assigned the D4OPUB role, which provides access to the objects stored in the catalog.
Reading between the lines then you can see that even if you assign another role for your end users they must also get the D40PUB role which means they will also get OLAP_USERS.

  • Discoverer Olap remote speed

    Hello All,
We are experiencing terrible performance problems with using discoverer olap at our remote offices. At our corporate office, performance is just fine, but remotely, our users are extremely unhappy. We have tried various sqlnet settings which had no positive effect, we have had our network provider (BT) monitor our network, which showed no issues. We even moved to a new bigger server. All of these things caused no significant improvement. Does anyone out their have any suggestions! They would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Carl Petersen

    Hi Carl
Discoverer OLAP is notorious for this. This is caused because once connected to the server, the Discoverer OLAP applet on the client interacts with the database direct. It does not use the power of the Discoverer middle tier. The server won't appear to be idling, it really will be.
From the How does Discoverer Plus OLAP work? section of the Discoverer 10.1.2.1 Configuration Guide here is how OLAP works:
    1. The user launches a Web browser on a client computer and types the URL of the Discoverer Plus servlet.
    2. The Web browser accesses the Discoverer Plus servlet on the Discoverer Services tier, which forwards the request to the Discoverer servlet.
    3. The Discoverer servlet retrieves the Discoverer Connections page and returns this to the Discoverer Plus servlet, which in turn returns the page to the client.
    4. The user logs in (by connecting directly or using a Discoverer connection).
    5. The Discoverer Plus OLAP applet is transmitted to the client computer (if it is not present already).
    6. The Discoverer Plus OLAP connects directly to the database.
This architecture is totally different to how Discoverer relational works. Discoverer relational always uses the power of the middle tier server to run the query. It never connects directly to the database.
The further away from the database that your client machine is the slower will be the performance. Therefore, the important machines in the OLAP world are the database server and the client PC. You need to have as powerful a PC as you can in order to run Discoverer OLAP effectively. Putting resources into the Discoverer server is not the answer.
Have you considered using something like a terminal server for your users to connect to? I've done this before, using Citrix, and got performance back to almost the same as being in the main office. I say almost because there is still an overhead in running anything remotely, but its a lot quicker than running the application from the local PC across the whole network to the database.
    Does this help?
    Regards

  • Severe problem with 'Drill to Related' using drill icon

    Hi
I have a severe problem with 'Drill to Related' in Discoverer Plus (10.1.2.54.25) using the drill icon of a worksheet:
    1. Though existing no items to drill to are shown in the context menu (or pop-up list), instead it says just 'Drill to Related...'
    2. Clicking on menue item 'Drill to Related...' results in 50% processor load (permanent) and no further update of the browser window (IE 7.0.5730.11) containig Discoverer Plus. There is no recovery of that state within about 20 minutes.
This behaviour is both highly reproducible and annoying.
When using the drill dialog instead of the icon the expected items are shown and 'Drill to Related' works fine. Although that is a workaround I don't think it acceptable to tell the end-users to use it.
I searched metalink for a hint but couldn't find anything.
    Can anyone help?
    Franziska

    Hi S
This seems to be a bug that was fixed earlier since we didn't experience it having applied cumulative patch 3 earlier.
Something might be said about your problem in Metalink
    Doc ID: Note:422575.1
Subject: Drilling With Discoverer Viewer 10g (10.1.2) Using Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) Fails With Javascript Error
We still had to apply the patch for the bug I mentioned earlier in this thread in order to be able to see and select an item to drill to. Unfortunately the problem with the processor load up to 50% and nothing happening is still there.
By the way IE 7 is certified now according to the Oracle certification information.
    Hope this helps

  • Discoverer Viewer/Plus 10g after a migration from Discoverer 4i

    Hi, I upgrated Discoverer4i to Discoverer 10g with Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) without installin AS 10g
    I followed the note: http://oracle-magic.blogspot.com/2006/11/upgrading-discoverer-4i-to-10g-on-apps.html
If I use Discoverer Administrator and Desktop it works perfectly (I connect as an Oracle Application User)
Now, I want to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer/Plus but I don't understand how to do it (always connecting with an Oracle Application user).
My previous URL (with Discoverer4i) was: http://gnvdev.ote.gr:8025/discoverer4i/viewer
Now, after the Discoverer 10g installation I can connect to the "Welcome to Oracle Business Intelligence 10g (10.1.2)" page with the following URL:http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779/
I didn't understand how Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) can communicate with Discoverer 10g in order to see reports from the web
Can anyone help to understand where and how I should modify anything in order to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer or Plus
    Thank you
    Alex

If you have followed all the steps in "Note: 313418.1 - Using Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i" then you should be able to access Discoverer Plus/Viewer through the following links:
    Discoverer Plus:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/plus
    Discoverer Viewer:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/viewer
The above links will prompt for some input, all what you need to provide is:
    - Applications Username
    - Applications Password
    - Database (SID)

  • Drill to detail should come with our own report format....

    deptno          empcount
              Q1-07          Q2-07          Q3-07          Q4-07
         10     245          267          134          98
         20     328          898          211          88deptno is from test_1(total of 34 colums) table
empcount is from test_2(total of 12 columns) table
    Q1-07,Q2-07... from time_1 (total of 37 columns)table.
when i am going for drill to detail on deptno(20), its going to display all the 34+12+37 columns.
but i don't want all these columns.i need to display few columns from test_1 table only.
how to achieve that in Oracle Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18?

    Hi
Don't drill to detail. That is the old way of drilling and has the behavior you describe. What you need to do is hyper drill to a second workbook or worksheet from deptno.
The second worksheet will be pre-defined and can either be in the same workbook or in a second workbook, Discoverer does not care either way. With both worksheets existing you right-click in the deptno cell and from the pop-up select the option to create the link. It's the last one in the last.
For anyone reading this, please be aware that you can only create hyper links in Discoverer Plus 10g R2, and work in both Viewer and Desktop.
    Best wishes

  • "Drill-to-Detail" to remote RDBMS

I've seen that its possible to drill from OLAP AW's down into transactional source data from within a 10g database.
Is it possible to feed an AW data from a remote transactional system, and allow "Drill-to-Detail" from the AW on one server to a remote transactional system on another server?
Not really after specifics on how this might actually be implemented, just curious to know if its feasible or not.

    Hi there,
    I think this is possible.
I've not tested it but it should be possible using a DB Link.

  • Discoverer 4i Plus Applet not initializing Win2k/IE6 - Solution

    Hi,
I finally got a solution to the problem of the Discoverer 4i Plus Applet not launching on IE 6.0 Windows2000 machines.
When you click on the image "Click to Start" the area goes grey and the applet never comes up. When you look at the java console you will notice a class not found exception. The reasons are as follows :
    - IE 6.0 doesn't come with a built in JVM unlike the earlier versions. The JVM resides with the OS i.e. Windows2000 or WindowsXP.
    - When launching the Discoverer applet you need to invoke the appropriate htm page
    e.g. http://serverURL/discwb4/html/english/ms_ie/start_ie.htm
This htm page doesn't have any hint in the <applet> tag to use jinitiator or any other JVM to launch the applet, assuming that since the IE browser has an embedded JVM the applet will be launched. However this fails to happen since IE6.0 which ships with Window200 and Windows XP doesn't have a built in JVM. Why the JVM in the OS doen't take of that I don't know as yet. Therefore the applet fails to load and you get a class not found exception that can be verified thru the browser's java console.
    - So instead of calling the IE configured page start_ie.htm call the corresponding netscape page like http://serverURL/discwb4/html/english/netscape/start_nn.htm. The start_nn.htm page has the appropriate <embed> tags to hint the initialization of the applet using jinitiator or other JVM. Therefore the applet gets launched.
Hope this helps all those who have had to face this issue.

    Hi Simon
    (4) Can I take the user automatically to the list of database workbooks ("Open Workbook from Database" dialogue box) without the user having to choose "Open an existing workbook" and "Database"?
Yes user can automatically view the workbooks or the worksheet or even a particular page of the worksheet.
Give the URL to the user and ask the user to run the URL from his/her browser. The URL shloud however contain the username, password, database name, workbook name etc...
This way we can bypass all the login screens and go directly to the desired page.
    URL is as follows
    http://hostname.domain/program_name/?us=APPS&db=devl&wb=Wb3&pw=apps
    where
hostname.domain/program_name is where ur discoverer viewer is residing
    us is the username
    pw is the password
db is the database u wnat to connect to
wb is the workbook u want to open
    Try this , this works.
