  • Installation of Oracle Discoverer on Windows

    Hi All
I need to install Oracle Discoverer Desktop on windows platform if any one has detail installation documentation of this please give me the link ASAP as i m never installed this discoverer on windows i m doing it first time i know how to install database on windows so please help me and also give me the link that shows hows it works also
    please help me asap.

Here is the link to install Oracle Discoverer 10g Client.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
Accept the license terms and click on Business Intelligence – Tools CD (for Microsoft Windows)
First, Discoverer checks for swap space, if you have an error saying swap space not enough, go to Control Panel-> System -> Advanced Tab -> Performance Options button
See available virtual memory. If it is less than 1535 MB, increase it by clicking on Change button
While installation, the installer prompts for new home, BIToolsHome_1. You can use the same name or change it, but this has to be a different home than Oracle home on your PC. Select ‘Custom’ installation type and from the Available Product Components, select ‘Oracle Discoverer Desktop’, also Administrator if you need it.
    Should be good to go.

    Hi,
In addition to above I have notices that when virtual memory is low I got these files generated.
The reason may be while virtual memory is low, windows OS generates more pages for Virtual Memory, some processes are denied the allocation of the pages or say memory. This may be the reason that you get your windows closed.
Look How I got the error description in the pages :

  • CUPS Printing Server Discoverable by Windows Machines

I have a server running archlinux on it with a CUPS server. It's used to host a USB printer as a network printer. It can be easily printed to via Linux, Mac, and Windows machines if it is hand configured on each client using the available IP address. I would like to make the printer discoverable on windows machines, i.e: the client:
      1. opens control panel
      2. goes to "add a printer"
      3. selects "network printer"
      4. the printer on the archlinux printer server (via CUPS) displays to be setup on the client
I've done a bit of research and I've found that Samba holds a solution but I know nothing about Samba and according to the Archwiki the default smb.conf file holds the proper configuration for printer sharing (although I'm still unsure if this method is required. Also to note the default smb.conf file does not solve my issue).

This looks promising thanks! Do you know how avahi need to be configured to make it work with CUPS? Also, is Samba required for the printer to broadcast with avahi?
I've also found cups-browsed however it doesn't seem to work. Below is my /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf if it will help any.

You can try the following. I'm not on a network with a server running CUPS so I'm not sure these steps are verbatim, but hopefully this puts you in the right direction:
    1. Go to your CUPS web interface. It should be on port 631. If this is not open or accessible, modify your CUPS config so that it is: http://hplipopensource.com/node/231
    2. Go to Printers
    3. Go to the page for the printer you want to remote-print to, and grab the URL of that printer's page.
    4. On your Windows machine, when it begins to scan for printers, choose "My printer was not displayed in this list."
    5. Choose the option to input a URL, and paste the URL of your printer.
    6. Select your driver. Run Windows update if needed.
    7. You should now be able to print to that printer over the network.
This is what my current fix is (and it works quite well), thanks for the suggestion though! The server is hosted in a public-ish place and there are various end users who aren't computer savy. The issue is one of convenience as most end users don't know how to follow directions correctly and "IT support" (which is just myself) is very limited.
I'm not concerned about security currently (I'll worry about that later).
    Thanks for the responses!

  • Oracle Discoverer and Windows 2003 Server

Did anyone know if Discoverer 4.1 is compatible on windows 2003 server?
Also if Discoverer 10g is also compatible on windows 2003 server?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
No, Discoverer 4i is not supported with Windows 2003, see Note 332433.1. 10g is compatible with Windows 2003.

  • Oracle Discoverer  on windows server 2008

I'm looking for oracle Discoverer download on windows server 2008(32 bit). I tried looking on ORACLE.COM but I'm not able to find one.
    Can someone point me...

    Hi
    Here is the link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?url=/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
However, you may be disappointed because according to this matrix: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/as_certification_r2_101202.html it does not look like Server 2008 is a supported platform. I would ask Oracle Support to be sure or perhaps someone from Oracle reading this will advise.
When you get there you need to read the license agreement and then check and click the I Accept button to indicate that you understand and are willing to abide by the agreement.
Assuming you get the all clear, when you get to the main downloads page if you want the full application server you want the first row, if you want just Discoverer Plus / Viewer you want the row entitled Business Intelligence. You then look across the row for your operating system and then download all of the files that begin with CD. In your case because you are looking for the Microsoft Server version you need the software from the first column headed Microsoft Windows. Incidentally, if you need Discoverer Administrator and / or Desktop then it is also in the Microsoft Windows column and it is called Tools CD.
After you have installed Plus / Viewer (they both install at the same time) you version will be 10.1.2.0.2. This is the base version. You then need to log into MetaLink and download the 10.1.2.3 patch followed by the latest cumulative patch. This page on my blog will help with patch numbers: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2008/04/most-useful-patch-numbers.html

    Hi All,
If you have access to Metalink check Note:298486.1 unable to Open or Save Workbooks with Desktop 10g (9.0.4) on Windows 2003.
There is an error reported in Bug 4081010 UNABLE TO OPEN OR SAVE WORKBOOKS WITH DESKTOP 9.0.4 ON WINDOWS 2003, the bug was fixed in Patch 4085873 for Discoverer 10g (9.0.4). Unfortunately they did not mention Discoverer 9.0.2.
    I hope it helps.

    Can anyone please assist.

just follow the compatability mode wizard and you will be fine.
i renamed the install folder though, as the name i had was too long, and installer kept crashing.
so it ended up installing fine and now also runs with no probs

  • Discoverer Administrator on Windows 7 64 Bit

I want to install discoverer on windows 7 64 bit computer, which version work with this OS?

I installed Discoverer 11.1.1.3 on Windows 7 and it works fine.
To install it I had to go into Control Panel - User Accounts and set Change User Account Control Settings to 'Never Notify' then the install ran fine.
Then when running Disco Admin I had
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
To fix this you need to create a Windows environment variable TNS_ADMIN that points to the directory where the correct Tnsnames.ora file is held.
On my system, I went to 'Computer - System Properties - Advanced - Environment Variables", created an environment variable TNS_ADMIN and set its value to C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\ADMIN
Check where your server or other tnsnames file is stored and set the corresponding value.
    Then it all worked perfectly.

  • Setup for Discoverer to have multiple sessions opening in different browser

What is the setup for Discoverer or Windows 6 browser to have multiple discoverer sessions opening in different browser windows at the same time in Discoverer 10g Plus?
We have implemented Discoverer 10g Plus just to be used as an extract tool. We have some workbooks retrieving 200,000 or more rows from an Oracle database. It is taking 30 to 45 minutes to download. Some users are able to open multiple sessions in different browsers to download more then one worksheet at the time, but we have other users who get an error message that they can only open one session at the time. What is the setup to allow users to open more than one Discoverer session?

  • Windows 8.1 need help with Windows Updates and Start menu Or fix my old Windows Xp system

My beloved windows Xp has gave up after many years of working well. It stopped working a few days ago after a lightening strike.
I got this Windows 8.1 computer a few month ago  but it seems to have a problem. I stopped using it after could not get start menu to work and when back to my Windows XP system.
First problem is the start menu is not there. I tried installing something and it says it will take control or something and screen goes black. I clicked canceled quickly in order not to get a virus.
    Where is the start menu?
Second problem, Windows updates does not want to update because it needs Windows 8.1 update. This computer is already Windows 8.1. There I canceled it since it was mostly a virus. Now updates are not working.
If those can not be fixed, how can i fix my Windows Xp to get it back. It does not turn on, I press button and nothing happens. Is this something easy to fix?

Another user discovers that Windows 8.1 is not at all of what it should be.
There is no Start Menu in Windows 8 or 8.1.  However, you can restore your desktop start menu with a very good freeware application:
    Classic Shell
Windows Update comes with Windows 8.1.  There is nothing special you have to do.
It kind of sounds like you've been a bit too quick to download and run whatever you find on the Internet.  You should always research any software you're considering downloading/installing ahead of time.  Google it.  See what others say
about it.  Ask on forums.  In order to use Windows effectively and safely you need to expand your knowledge and become a more sophisticated user.
If you think your new system has become infected, you might want to consider Refreshing or Resetting it to a clean state, or at least visiting one of the anti-malware forums and getting some advice on cleaning it up.  But beware, a lot
of "blind leading the blind" happens on forums.  Always try to read between the lines, and question what people say.
You could consider leaving XP behind.  Its time has come and gone, and pretty much any newer version of Windows can actually give you better service than XP - once you get it tuned up.
It's possible to make Windows 8.1 more functional than XP and about as functional as Windows 7, but it takes a fair bit of effort in reconfiguration and installation of some well-known 3rd party applications that are good (which, unfortunately, most
    on the internet are not).
    Good luck to you.

  • Discoverer hyperlinks to NT server directories?

My customer has asked me if it's possible to create a Discoverer report with a column containing a 'hyperlink' to a server and directory on his network, such that when he double clicks on it he launches Windows Explorer on his PC for the drive and directory he's interested in. For example, he'd like to put something like \\des.grplnk.net\svr2\glkds0026\project as the value in his column. Also he's using Discoverer Plus and Discoverer Viewer, not Discoverer Desktop.
I looked at the 'ProtocolList' preference for Discoverer. I see that Discoverer drill links can be created using the following protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, mailto, gopher, telnet. Does anyone know, if we altered our Discoverer preferences.txt on the app server, if any of the protocols suggested above would allow him the funtionality he'd like please? I wondered if FTP would do it?
THank you in advance for any help you can offer,
    Julie.

    Hi Rod,
Have now tried this (had to put quotes round the string '\\des.grplnk.net\svr2\glkds0026\project' when creating the folder item), and with Discoverer Desktop, when you double click in the field in the Discoverer report, Windows Explorer is launched on my PC, displaying the required directory.
That was great, but my customer only has web-based Discoverer. I tried the same thing with Discoverer Plus, and a new Internet Explorer window was launched with error "HTTP 404 - File not found". Examination of the URL in the newly launched window showed that it read 'http://isis-prod.des.grplnk.net/discoverer///des.grplnk.net/svr2/glkds0026/project'
i.e. the URL now consists of the address of the server for our system with Discoverer Plus on the app server with the address of the file server directory location concatenated to it.
Do you believe there is any way of achieving the desired result (launching Windows Explorer on the client PC) using one of the web-based Discoverer tools where Discoverer is installed on an application server and accessed using IE?
I tried entering 'http://des.grplnk.net/svr2/glkds0026/project' into the Address window of Internet Explorer and hitting Go, but got an error from the Company Intranet. Even with my limited knowledge I don't think that's ever going to work with IE without a file name at the end? (It's just a directory and I don't think IE can do anything with that.)
If there is any further help you can offer I would be grateful,
    Julie.

  • Error occurred while talking to OPMN Could not find entity for Discoverer

I have installed Oracle AS 10g with discoverer on windows 2000 Advance Server. Discoverer component status is displayed 'Unavailable' in Enterprise manager. Above mentioned error is displayed when i am restarting it. I have checked OPMN configuration file. It has component entry for discoverer.
Pl help to resolve the issue.
    Sambhaji

    Hi Sambhaji
A couple of things come to mind.
Firstly, did you have a fully qualified domain name set in your HOSTS file before you started the installation?
Secondly, are you certain that 2000 Advance Server is a supported platform? You'd need to look on MetaLink for that. As far as I know you must have SP3 installed, I'm just not sure about Advance Server. A service request to Oracle support would clear this one up.
    Best wishes
