Hi Christian
In your connection to the database are you using a DNS named server or are you using an actual IP address?
By this I mean, when you launch Discoverer, do you do it this way:
http://servername.domain.com:7777/discoverer/plus
or this way:
http://ipaddress:7777/discoverer/plus
If you are using the former, can you go to the server itself and run Discoverer ok? If you can then it is a case that your local machine cannot work out what the IP address is. Let's say, for arguements sake, that you server is http://myserver.mydomain.com and that the IP is 192.168.1.100
You could try editing your HOSTS file and inserting a line in there to associate the IP with the domain. To do this, follow this workflow:
1. Right click on Windows Start button and from pop upmenu select Explore
2. Navigate to the folder called Windows/system32/drivers/etc
3. Locate the file called HOSTS
4. Edit this file with Notepad
5. Insert a line like this:
myserver.mydomain.com 192.168.1.100
6 Save the HOSTS file and exit Explorer
This associates the IP with the server name.
Does this help

  • Discoverer Plus connection error

    Hi all,
I installed the Oracle Business Intelligence and its Tools and I created BI_ADMIN for EUL in Discoverer Administrator. But I get the following error when I connect to Discoverer Plus:
The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again.
Please guide me for solving this error.
    Thanks

    Hi
To follow up on the link posted by CD, summarized here:
"The Discoverer network connection configuration uses a DHCP server to get its IP address. In the insallation instructions for the Application Server it suggests using a Microsoft Loopback Adapter and add a line in the HOSTS file to map the host name with the loopback IP.
This procedure appears to work fine with Discoverer 9.0.4, but doesn't always work with Discoverer 10.1.2
The workaround then is to try assigning a static IP to the server and uninstall the loopback adapter. With a static IP most of these connection errors should go away."
I would also add that you have to make sure that a fully qualified domain name is used on the server. If you have already installed Discoverer without a fully qualified domain name you will probably have to wipe the installation and start again.
    Best wishes

  • Discoverer Plus connections lost..!!

    Hi,
We always get emails from users saying that the Discoverer Plus Connections saved on the local machine are lost. They have to recreate the connections again.
What could be the cause of the issue?
I told them not to delete cookies as the connections are stored in IE cookies, but is there any solution for this?
    Thanks!
    Yogini

    Yogini,
10.1.2.48.18 is the basic version of 10g Rel 2 BI. You can see that connectivity issue will be overcomed by this but this version is not stable. Specially if your envrionment is of Oracle E-Business Suite. You can face some more weird issues like icons of toolbar getting disabled etc.
Oracle recommends to go with 10.1.2.54.25 and it is very much stable.only way to reach this version by patch 4960210.There is one more patch over 10.1.2.54.25 for some Discoverer viewer issues.
Moreover the patch is available for both Developer tools and also BI middle tier.
    Have Fun..

  • Discoverer plus initialisation error

    Hi!
When I try to launch Discover Plus I get the following error:
"Unable to connect to Oracle Discoverer Application Server
Attempt1: RMI Protocol over http transport:
    Incorrect response from (server name)"
We initially thought that this was a firewall issue, but it's not.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Martin

    Hi,
I've only ever heard of this problem with Discoverer Plus, as it's only Disco Plus that uses 'RMI protocol over JRMP Transport', which is a way for the Discoverer Plus applet to communicate with the server. Anyway, the solution as given by Oracle at http://otn.oracle.com/products/discoverer/htdocs/hints/htm/plus_Connect.htm is:-
"If you’re using Internet Explorer and try to establish a Discoverer plus 9.0.2.39.1 session, and you may encounter this error on some workstations:
“Unable to connect to the Oracle Discoverer Application Server: RMI protocol over JRMP transport: incorrect response from from servlet at http://yourmachinename.com:7778/discoverer/plus”
If the answer to either of the following questions is 'yes', then this document may help you correct your environment.
    Can you connect using Netscape?
Can you connect from other workstations?
    Solution:
Check your web listener error_log. In unix environments it is found in [ORACLE_HOME] /product/ias902/Apache/Apache/logs - filename: error_log.
Use “tail -f error_log” to view the contents of the error_log file.
If the server error_log contains “[OSSO] Warning: Failed to decrypt OHS_ID cookie value. Bailing ...”, then it is possible that cookies are being stored in the browser (not intended), whereas the cookies in question are designed to be non-persistent. To rectify this do as follows.
    · Enter Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> Internet options -> General -> Temporay Internet Files -> Settings – View Files
    or
    · [Driveletter]:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Cookies
Delete all Cookie files from ias server and sso server.
    For Example:
    Name
    Internet Address
    [email protected]
    Cookie:[email protected]/
    discoverer
    Cookie:[email protected]/discoverer
You can search for cookie files by using * wildcards i.e. *servername*, or anonymized:
    Name
    Internet Address
    [username]@servername.domainname
    Cookie:[username]@servername.domainname/
    discoverer
    Cookie:[username]@servername.domainname/discoverer
After cookie files have been deleted, please reboot your workstation and reconnect to Discoverer Plus. Now it should work."
    hope this helps

  • Discoverer server connection error

    Hi,
I am having a specific problem with web version of discoverer plus. Whenever I connect to discoverer plus and start working on it for few minutes I am losing connection to discoverer server. The exact error message what I am getting is "CONNECTION TO DISCOVERER SERVER IS LOST. PLEASE EXIT AND RESTART YOUR APPLICATION AND IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS CONTACT YOUR ORACLE APPLICATION SERVER ADMINISTRATOR". When I look at the java console of the applet that is downloaded on my machine I see 'DiscoNetworkException' being thrown. Has anybody got any idea about why this is happening? if so, what do I need to do to prevent it from happening.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mythili.

We have seen similar behavior on the product. We are running Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18. The problem is reproducable if we have both a CASE statement and a Sort in a worksheet, then try to Save or view the SQL. I have seen the error that begins with "Error: DiscoNetworkException IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0", however, this error is occuring independent of the "dropped connection" error. We have seen it occur before the actual "dropped connection" error occurs. Also, if we only examine the SQL and don't save the worksheet, the error is displayed, but the connection remains intact (we can continue to work with the worksheet).
Don't know if this is helpful, but its what we're seeing.

  • DISCOVERER Plus connectivity issus

Encountering a connection issue when using DISCOVERER Plus. When attempting to refresh (using the refresh icon) after five-ten minutes of being idle, the message "Failed to connect to database" is received. Users then have to reconnect to DISCOVERER via the connection screen. I don't have any knowledge about disvocer. The platform is windows.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
The first think you will want to check is the timout preference for Discoverer Plus.
    It is located in <oracle_home/discoverer/util/pref.txt
Once you change it, you will need to run applpreferences.sh or applypfreferences.bat (for Windows) and the next sessions will pick up the change.
Discoverer Viewer timeout is in the web.xml file.. see the Discoverer Configuration Guide on OTN
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Discoverer Plus generating errors in Apache error log

The Apache error.log file is getting filled with "File does not exist" errors looking for the directory: /oracle/isuites/apache/apache/htdocs/discwb4/applet/tdg/<a host of different en_.properties and .class files>. I don't understand why I'm getting these errors. The files that exist don't have the '_en_' in the file name. Also, similar errors are looking for /oracle/isuites/apache/apache/htdocs/discwb4/applet/java files and the directory that exists is javax. Has anyone out there experienced similar errors?
    Thanks.

I am suspecting there is something that needs to be added
    in either disco4iviewer.properties, jserv.conf or jserv.properties

i would walk the above files and check to see if they have

  • Export issue in discoverer plus (10G)

I'm unable to export the report result into either excel or text file from discoverer plus.
    Error message is "Operation Failed".
Please help me in resolving this in discoverer 10G.

Hi, I happened to come across Murali's thread here while searching for something else.
If anyone is interested, the resolution was MetaLink Note 401600.1 (Exporting To Xls/Cvs/Txt Formats With Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Plus or Viewer Fails With 'Error Operation Failed').
It involved deleting dc* files from the temporary directory we have identified for exporting temporary files. The temporary directory was full.
Once the dc* files were deleted, it resolved the export to XLS from Discoverer Plus issue for us this time.

can you please help me out so solve this prob.
the discoverer plus version is 10.1.2.48.18

Currently there is not enough information to realy de-bug the issue. I would look at the URL and verify that the URL with the connections page is the same as after entering the connection information. The URL can change if there is a Load Balancer or Proxy server involved.
Run the Discoverer script below to verify the Discoverer server is up and working.
    $MidOH/discoverer/util > . ./checkdiscoverer.sh
Next look in the Discoverer application.log for additional information about the error. It is located at:
    $MidOH/j2ee/oc4j_bi_forms/application_deployments/discoverer/oc4j_bi_forms_default_island_1
    If these messages do
You are running an older release of 10g. The latest production release of 10g is 10.1.2.3 with Cumulative Patch 6 applied. See Note 237607.1 - ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions. This Note is kept up to date.

Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, chapter 16 on pages 548 to 612 cover OLAP in some detail. This chapter was written by Mark Rittman, OLAP expert extraordinaire.
He also runs a blog which you may find to be of some help: http://www.rittmanmead.com/blog/
There is at least one Oracle by Example which may help: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/discoverer/discoverer_1012/index.html

  • Can't Create Saved Connection in 11g (Discoverer Plus).

We're getting ready to go live with a new installation of Discoverer Weblogic 11g, but we have run into a problem. We are getting errors when we have any user try to create a saved login connection from their login screen. We hit "Create Connection" and enter all the required login info (as we always did with our 10g version), but when we hit 'Apply' or 'Apply and Connect' we get the following errors.......

Users can login just fine when they enter all their info on the login screen, this is only happening when we try to create the saved connection. Is anyone else running into this on 11g? Is there a setting we are missing or something? Maybe something in the pref.txt file? Any help would be appreciated, especially since we are being asked to go live soon. Thanks!

In the end (after a lot of back and forth), Oracle could not reproduce our problem on their test system. Because their test system uses Enterprise Edition and we installed Standard Edition, their solution was that the issue is caused because we are using Standard Oracle DB and we should be using Enterprise Edition. Creating a saved connection doesn't sound at all like something that would be affected by Standard or Enterprise edition. That's not an easy "solution" for us right now, and we can use a real fix. That's like taking your car into the shop because your blinkers don't work on your 2010 model car and the dealer's solution is "Oh, your 2010 car blinkers don't work? We have a 2011 model and they work just fine. You'll need to buy a 2011 car so the turn signals function."
