Discoverer plus patch installation help

i have installed the base version of discoverer 10.1.2.0.2 and version of plus installed is 10.1.2.48.18.
For discoverer plus to work in ie7 i came to know that i have to apply this PatchSet3 from the link
https://updates.oracle.com/ARULink/PatchDetails/process_form?patch_num=5983622 and CP6.
I have installed with the name BIHome_1 in E Drive. The path of installation is E:\Oracle\BIHome_1.Now when i am trying to install patchset3 "5983622" ,it is asking me for the name and path and by defult it is taking name as oracleas1 and path as E:\OraHome_1.
What shuld be the actual path of this patch?should i point the path to E:\Oracle\BIHome_1?
If i give the default path and try to install ,it is giving me error as "there is no patch that needs to be applied".
can you tell me correct path for this patch to be installed?
Am i using the correct patchset3(5983622) ?

Hi ,
From the path pf installation it seems that it is a Discoverer Admin/Desktop installation .
Is the above is correct ?
Patch 5983622 is Discoverer 10.1.2.3 patch which can be applied on Discoverer Admin/Desktop and also on Discoverer Plus/Viewer .
In order to apply Patch 5983622 on Discoverer Admin/Desktop do the following
1. Click on to the setup.exe
2. In the OUI make sure Source is pointing to <Your Patch downloaded location>Disk1\stage\products.xml
3. For Destination choose the Oracle_Home pointing to your Discoverer Admin/Desktop installation directory .

    Hi Aparna,
    1. Do firewall settings or changes in server settings affect Discoverer Plus?
    A. Yes
    2. How does Discoverer Plus actually work? I mean what server settings one has to do for this application?
    A. Discoverer is a web based reporting tool which is developed through Java programming. When ever u develop a report in discoverer by clicking folders, joins etc it will automatically writes a query and the same is store it in the discoverer objects.
When ever u execute a report in discoverer, the discoverer will just send only the query to the database, and from the database it fetch the data according to ur requirements.
Regarding server settings its all depends on the environment u are using.
If u are using oracle application 11.5.7 then u really don't need to struggle a lot for server settings because discoverer is a component of Oracle 9i Application server.
3.Can I get some online literature on Discoverer Plus?
    A. Its is available in www.oracle.com

  • Integrating Oracle Help with Discoverer Plus

    Folks -
Has anyone tried integrating Oracle Help with Discoverer Plus. I want to add my customized help (generated in RoboHelp - Oracle) to the help in Discoverer Plus. Is this doable? I don't want to use Oracle Help exclusively unless I need to.

    Hi, Johnny.
I think you might have better luck getting your question answered on the forum for Discoverer at Discoverer
I'm not sure whether Discoverer supports extensions, but I would assume that they do in some way. Discoverer ought to provide a standard mechanism for extensions to provide help content.
    Hope this helps,

  • Discoverer Plus not working in Internet Explorer

IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 professional SP4 and all of the patches up to date.
Latest Java run time from Sun.
I hit the link to Plus and it will eventually bring me back to the login screen with all of the parameters empty. It also opens a new window which is in the background that is blank. The java icon does not appear when I click on the link either.
I had the google tool bar installed so I removed this. Still the same result.
I tried this in Firefox and it works perfectly! I have also tried IE with other applets and they all work perfectly.
The environment is all in an Intranet. I have tested this with another Win2K desktop and got the same results. I have also tried plus with an NT desktop and it also does not work.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

    Found the problem.
The default installation has WebCache listening on port 80 and then Apache is listening on port 7777 or 7778.
Discoverer Plus requires a JVM to run and with IE, it installs a particular version of the Sun JVM. The installer points to a hard coded URL in the $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/config/configuration.xml file for IE users. For whatever reason, the URL is not pointing to the WebCache port but to the Apache port directly. The configuration file doesn't have a section for Firefox so it just loads a JVM which is already installed.
I had disabled WebCache because it is another layer to fail when I don't really need or want WebCache. I did this by turning off WebCache with OEM and then editing the httpd.conf file. I changed Listen 7777 to Listen 80.
Now when a user with IE tried to open Discoverer Plus, the configuration points the browser to a port that Apache isn't listening on anymore.
The fix is to have Apache listening on both 7777 and 80 when disabling WebCache. Or you can edit the configuration.xml file and and remove the port number so that it gets either 80 or 443 automatically.

  • Can't Create Saved Connection in 11g (Discoverer Plus).

We're getting ready to go live with a new installation of Discoverer Weblogic 11g, but we have run into a problem. We are getting errors when we have any user try to create a saved login connection from their login screen. We hit "Create Connection" and enter all the required login info (as we always did with our 10g version), but when we hit 'Apply' or 'Apply and Connect' we get the following errors.......
    A connection error.
    - Oracle BI Discoverer Viewer cannot save the connection. Check for other errors.
    - ORA-04063: package body "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" has errors ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" ORA-06512: at line 1
Users can login just fine when they enter all their info on the login screen, this is only happening when we try to create the saved connection. Is anyone else running into this on 11g? Is there a setting we are missing or something? Maybe something in the pref.txt file? Any help would be appreciated, especially since we are being asked to go live soon. Thanks!
    Here is our system setup:
    Oracle BI Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.4.0)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 11g (11.1.1.4.0)
    Discoverer Model - 11.1.1.4.0
    Discoverer Server - 11.1.1.4.0
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
End User Layer Library - 11.1.1.4.0
    Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Java Virtual Machine:     Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_29
JVM Memory Available:     9046KB out of 37372KB
Operating System:     x86 Windows XP 5.1
Using protocol: RMI protocol over JRMP transport

    Additional info:
Based on the error messages, we can see something is wrong with the package being called. We had a long running help ticket with Oracle opened, but in our opinion, it was not really resolved. We provided the following info after a request from Oracle....
The package does exist. The package is valid but the package body is invalid due to missing dependant objects
    It is owned by PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.
The database version is 11.2.0.1.0 (64 bit)
    SQL> select OWNER, OBJECT_TYPE
    +2 from all_objects+
    +3 where object_name = 'WWSSO_API_PRIVATE';+
    OWNER OBJECT_TYPE
    PROD_DISCOVERER_PS PACKAGE
    PROD_DISCOVERER_PS PACKAGE BODY
We have tried to recomplie the package, still invalid.
After some further questions we were asked to provide info on the app_registry.......We got an error when trying that.......
The app_registry object does not exist ...
    SQL> connect sys as sysdba
    Enter password:
    Connected.
    SQL> select comp_id,version,status from app_registry;
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
In the end (after a lot of back and forth), Oracle could not reproduce our problem on their test system. Because their test system uses Enterprise Edition and we installed Standard Edition, their solution was that the issue is caused because we are using Standard Oracle DB and we should be using Enterprise Edition. Creating a saved connection doesn't sound at all like something that would be affected by Standard or Enterprise edition. That's not an easy "solution" for us right now, and we can use a real fix. That's like taking your car into the shop because your blinkers don't work on your 2010 model car and the dealer's solution is "Oh, your 2010 car blinkers don't work? We have a 2011 model and they work just fine. You'll need to buy a 2011 car so the turn signals function."

  • Error on connecting to discoverer plus

I'm triying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer. When I get to the login screen, fill all the required fields, but I got the following message: "The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again."
can you please help me out so solve this prob.
the discoverer plus version is 10.1.2.48.18

Currently there is not enough information to realy de-bug the issue. I would look at the URL and verify that the URL with the connections page is the same as after entering the connection information. The URL can change if there is a Load Balancer or Proxy server involved.
Run the Discoverer script below to verify the Discoverer server is up and working.
    $MidOH/discoverer/util > . ./checkdiscoverer.sh
Next look in the Discoverer application.log for additional information about the error. It is located at:
    $MidOH/j2ee/oc4j_bi_forms/application_deployments/discoverer/oc4j_bi_forms_default_island_1
    If these messages do
You are running an older release of 10g. The latest production release of 10g is 10.1.2.3 with Cumulative Patch 6 applied. See Note 237607.1 - ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions. This Note is kept up to date.

When I run the checkdiscoverer. It works ok in all the checks except for: "Error: Failed to bind to Discoverer Server.
Hint: Try increasing the timeout by changing the timeout value in opmn.xml.". As the hint said I increased the start timeout, I got it up to 3500 and even incresed the minprocs to see if that helped. Nothing worked.
I'm testing this in a Windows XP Pro SP2 installed 1GB Ram. I Installed the BI Tools, App server but no infrastructure. The Installation process finished without any problems, except for a warning regarding not being able to determine the IP address. I can access all the options of the app server.

    Hi Christian
In your connection to the database are you using a DNS named server or are you using an actual IP address?
By this I mean, when you launch Discoverer, do you do it this way:
    http://servername.domain.com:7777/discoverer/plus
    or this way:
    http://ipaddress:7777/discoverer/plus
If you are using the former, can you go to the server itself and run Discoverer ok? If you can then it is a case that your local machine cannot work out what the IP address is. Let's say, for arguements sake, that you server is http://myserver.mydomain.com and that the IP is 192.168.1.100
You could try editing your HOSTS file and inserting a line in there to associate the IP with the domain. To do this, follow this workflow:
    1. Right click on Windows Start button and from pop upmenu select Explore
    2. Navigate to the folder called Windows/system32/drivers/etc
    3. Locate the file called HOSTS
    4. Edit this file with Notepad
    5. Insert a line like this:
    myserver.mydomain.com 192.168.1.100
6 Save the HOSTS file and exit Explorer
This associates the IP with the server name.
    Does this help

  • Discoverer plus Problem

    Hai Friends...
    I installed oracle 9ias 1.0.2.2 on 8.1.6 database.
I am unable to run the discovere plus.
    I got the following error.
Unable to connect to the discoverer has detected a conflict
    loading java class
    oracle/discover/corba/_st_DCILocator.
    I wouid appreciate any help.
    Cheers
    Gopi

    Gopi:
When you completed the 9iAS installation, did you register the
    Discoverer Collector, Preferences, and Session?
On a Windows NT / 2K environment, you can do this by launching:
Programs -> Oracle Discoverer Server 4i Setup -> Register
    Preferences.
Do this for each as listed above. The lack of a session object
may be the source of your viewer problem as well.

  • WLS Discoverer Plus fails to connect to database

I have Discoverer (server) running on a WebLogic Server but cannot get it to connect to my database. IE7 shows a page error in the lower left-hand corner when trying to connect from the Discoverer Plus login page. Displaying the page error shows a message like the following.
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
    URL:http://myServer:7777/discoverer/plus
When trying to connect from the login page using Mozilla Firefox nothing happens, no errors displayed, nothing, just sits there.
I keep thinking this is an issue with IExplorer but not sure since Firefox does not connect either. Is there a particular log I should be looking at, if so then what should I be looking for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I have resolved this issue. It was a version issue with regards to the Fusion MiddleWare components I have loaded on my WLS. WebLogic Server 10.3.5 will not run versions of Forms, Reports or Discoverer that are lower than 11.1.6, at least that is what I found on my server. I had to patch my version of those components up to 11.1.6. All of these components now work fine. Thanks for your help.

    Hi All,
I have been working through issues we have been having with our scheduling and I have noticed that we have the exact problem identified on Metalink note 457148.1. It advocates applying some patches:
    1.     Apply the Application Server 10g 10.1.2.2 patchset 2 Patch 4960210 plus the latest Discoverer cumulative patch per Note 237607.1 'ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions'
    2.     This is also included in Application Server 10g 10.1.2.3 patchset 3 Patch 5983622.
    **** Non-patch Workaround ****
Disable the Query Prediction: Edit pref.txt on the middle-tier server and set QPPEnable=0 and Execute the applypreferences script (.sh or .bat)
My question: Has anyone done this workaround? We do not have a test box to test this before we make the change and we just went live with EBS R12 in April and I really do not need the additional excitement of trying to back-out of a failed patching.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi patrick,
Here you are using 10.1.2.2.But i do suggest you to upgrade to 10.1.2.3 version because it handles most of the issues.
You can go through it in michael's post. Here is the link

I really do not need the additional excitement of trying to back-out of a failed patchingFor any more suggestions on it i think our experts Micahel or Rod will help you.

  • OracleBI Discoverer Plus OLAP

    Hi
I need to use Discoverer for OLAP. I have installed BI and BI Tools, but I have there only Discoverer, not Discoverer Plus..
I dont understand where can I get Discoverer Plus...
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Marketecka

    Hi Aparna
You're obviously using Discoverer 4i which uses an older method of connecting. In this method you have to supply the full path and file name of the file being used to launch Discoverer on the URL. You have no choice but to run this path. However, you could create a proxy for it.
In newer versions the path and file name are all embedded configuration files within the application server, thus you only have to pass a port and the application name. The system then looks in its configuration files to determine the path and which file to run.
Having to use Netscape rather than IE is one of the oddities of 4i. While the IE connector may well work, it was noticed a long time ago that the Netscape file was far more robust. This is because when 4i was written the version of IE at the time was 6.0.28n pack 1 which could not handle JInitiator very well when called using standard IE commands. Seeing as the IE of the day could run the Netscape commands, the rest is history.
By the way, as a side issue, you need to upgrade ASAP because 4i is about to be desupported. I place a new posting on my blog last night which might help understand the Discoverer versions:
    http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/09/releases-and-patch-numbers-september.html
    I hope this helps
