Discoverer Plus Window Just Disappears
I have installed 10g IAS on a 2000 server. (Both infra and Midtier on the same) I am running Discoverer plus from an XP machine. At any time, the Discoverer Worksheet along with the Discoverer Login window will just disappear. GONE, BYE-BYE... An icon will appear on my XP system "hs_err_pid244.log". This log defines the error as;

In addition to above I have notices that when virtual memory is low I got these files generated.
The reason may be while virtual memory is low, windows OS generates more pages for Virtual Memory, some processes are denied the allocation of the pages or say memory. This may be the reason that you get your windows closed.

Fold down window just disappears when trying to bind to AD
We're switching back to Macs!!
In preparation I'm trying to bind my MacBook (10.5.6) to the Windows server (I've done this successfully at another school).
When I go to Directory Access, click the + , put in the info, the fold down window goes away and nothing happens, I'm pretty ignorant so be gentle.AD is already enabled, I'm bound at another location. Just when when I click the + to add this one, fill it out and click OK,it folds away and nothing happens, I tried putting in rubbish and I get the same, no error messages, it just folds up and ignores me. I did create a computer for this Macbook on the AD server.

Creative cloud installer stopes installing half way through. No error. The window just disappears.
No issues downloading the DMG. but I cant actually run the installer all the way. Im running 10.10 and there dousnt seem to be any trace of cc on my Mac?

Discoverer Plus workbook editing window size
Is there a way to make all (or at least a few) workbook editing windows open as full screen (or larger than the default) ???
Each time I edit something in a workbook, I have to resize all the windows I open and it's kind of annoying.

PS : I'm using Plus 10g release 1Well, I hate to say it, but you may have run across a bug in your version of Discoverer Plus. I am on 10.1.2.54.25 and the word wrap works just fine when printing a worksheet out of Discoverer Plus in that version. I even retested it just now just to verify, and it printed just fine, and the way you would want it to print. So my suggestion is that you log a service request for this issue with support and see what they say. Good luck.

When I'm using Safari, ocasionally the menu bar just disappears. I'm running the latest version of Lion and the latest version of Safari. This is not a full screen app problem. I have multiple windows open. This happens all the time! Firefox is fine! What the ****? Please help!
Right, like I'm trying to say, THERE IS NO SAFARI MENU bar. Example: I have multiple applications open, I click on a Photoshop window, the correct menu or title bar or whatever changes. Every other application window I click on brings up the correct "whatever" bar. If I click on the desktop, the "Finder Bar" shows up.
Everythiing else, BUT SAFARI, works the same way since OS X came out. This is ridiculous.
I'm getting the vibe that Apple is trying to get rid of the finder.... this is the way wrong direction. -
Using Discoverer Plus, see that blue popup on the Open workbook box that shows details of the workbook your mouse is over? The problem is that sometimes that box stays put and does not go away when the mouse is moved or the workbook is opened and closed. The box even stays on the screen when Discoverer is closed but Internet Explorer still has a window open. I have to close IE to get the little box to disappear.
This only happens when I've left the mouse over the Open workbook box for more than a second. If I move quickly the popup will appear for a second and disappear.
Does anybody have a solution for this? I'm a system admin and this problem is annoying my users.

If you cannot prevent the users from upgrading their Java then you are prone to experiencing more and more issues as the Java versions become further and further apart. If you end up using a Java version that is uncertified you could have all sorts of trouble.
So why can you not revert back? If this is the reason for your problems surely this ought to be raised and discussed with management and not just have someone dictate that it cannot be done?

Strange Problems with Discoverer Plus 10g
Hello All -
I'm working an exercise to bring an application online which uses Discoverer Plus 10g as its client. This application is located in an area that I don't have access to, so the symptoms I'll describe have been reported to me by users.
1) When users log into Discoverer Plus and it launches, it does so with the iconic menu buttons (located below the pull-down menus) disabled and grayed-out. The users are forced to do all operations using the pull-down menus. This is a problem that is consistent across different PCs.
2) When users do File....Save As.... the "Save Workbook to Database" window opens and the user is unable to modify the filename in the "New name" text field. If the user toggles the "View:" setting at the top of the window, they can then change the filename. This problem has only been reported by 2 users, but it's happening for them consistently.
3) When a user creates a new report using File....New... the Workbook Wizard opens and all is normal until the "Workbook Wizard - Step 2 of 5: Select Items" page appears. On the items tab, the user activates the pull-down list to select the business area they want to use, and the business area name disappears when the users mouses-over it. So the user must click on the blank business area name to continue. This is a problem that is consistent across different PCs.
A number of the users' PCs have two Java versions installed on them like this:

I had them make sure that 1.5.0_14 is the only one enabled, but that did not remedy any of the above problems.
At this point I don't know what to try next.

I suggest you remove other java version and stay with just one.
I do not remember but from some point the java version will use the higher there is and java 1.5 from my experience
is not working with the discoverer so well.

Discoverer Plus not working in Internet Explorer
IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 professional SP4 and all of the patches up to date.
Latest Java run time from Sun.
I hit the link to Plus and it will eventually bring me back to the login screen with all of the parameters empty. It also opens a new window which is in the background that is blank. The java icon does not appear when I click on the link either.
I had the google tool bar installed so I removed this. Still the same result.
I tried this in Firefox and it works perfectly! I have also tried IE with other applets and they all work perfectly.
The environment is all in an Intranet. I have tested this with another Win2K desktop and got the same results. I have also tried plus with an NT desktop and it also does not work.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this?Found the problem.
The default installation has WebCache listening on port 80 and then Apache is listening on port 7777 or 7778.
Discoverer Plus requires a JVM to run and with IE, it installs a particular version of the Sun JVM. The installer points to a hard coded URL in the $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/config/configuration.xml file for IE users. For whatever reason, the URL is not pointing to the WebCache port but to the Apache port directly. The configuration file doesn't have a section for Firefox so it just loads a JVM which is already installed.
I had disabled WebCache because it is another layer to fail when I don't really need or want WebCache. I did this by turning off WebCache with OEM and then editing the httpd.conf file. I changed Listen 7777 to Listen 80.
Now when a user with IE tried to open Discoverer Plus, the configuration points the browser to a port that Apache isn't listening on anymore.
The fix is to have Apache listening on both 7777 and 80 when disabling WebCache. Or you can edit the configuration.xml file and and remove the port number so that it gets either 80 or 443 automatically. -
Can't Create Saved Connection in 11g (Discoverer Plus).
We're getting ready to go live with a new installation of Discoverer Weblogic 11g, but we have run into a problem. We are getting errors when we have any user try to create a saved login connection from their login screen. We hit "Create Connection" and enter all the required login info (as we always did with our 10g version), but when we hit 'Apply' or 'Apply and Connect' we get the following errors.......
A connection error.
- Oracle BI Discoverer Viewer cannot save the connection. Check for other errors.
- ORA-04063: package body "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" has errors ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" ORA-06512: at line 1
Users can login just fine when they enter all their info on the login screen, this is only happening when we try to create the saved connection. Is anyone else running into this on 11g? Is there a setting we are missing or something? Maybe something in the pref.txt file? Any help would be appreciated, especially since we are being asked to go live soon. Thanks!

Based on the error messages, we can see something is wrong with the package being called. We had a long running help ticket with Oracle opened, but in our opinion, it was not really resolved. We provided the following info after a request from Oracle....
The package does exist. The package is valid but the package body is invalid due to missing dependant objects
It is owned by PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.

In the end (after a lot of back and forth), Oracle could not reproduce our problem on their test system. Because their test system uses Enterprise Edition and we installed Standard Edition, their solution was that the issue is caused because we are using Standard Oracle DB and we should be using Enterprise Edition. Creating a saved connection doesn't sound at all like something that would be affected by Standard or Enterprise edition. That's not an easy "solution" for us right now, and we can use a real fix. That's like taking your car into the shop because your blinkers don't work on your 2010 model car and the dealer's solution is "Oh, your 2010 car blinkers don't work? We have a 2011 model and they work just fine. You'll need to buy a 2011 car so the turn signals function." -
Discoverer Plus - Creating URL's with Multiple Dimension values
We are using the "Manage Links" feature in Discoverer Plus (10.1.2.2.0) to send dimension value names in a URL. As part of the "Manage Links" feature, the user is given the opportunity to choose which dimension values for the selected cells they want to include in the URL.
We are attempting to create URL's to drill from Discoverer Plus to more detailed Oracle Reports, which will use the dimension values in sql statements . One problem we noticed is for each dimension we can not select multiple values to send in the URL.
For example;
I have a URL I want to append selected dimension values from Discoverer Plus.
We have 2 dimensions each containing 5 dimension values. We use Discoverer Plus to filter down to 2 dimension values for each dimension to be included in our url.

When using popup in conjunction with framedisplaystyle=, the possible combinations are:
pluspopup=true and framedisplaystyle=embedded launches Discoverer Plus in a new pop-up browser window that contains the Plus applet embedded in it.
pluspopup=true and framedisplaystyle=separate opens a new pop-up browser window and launches Discoverer Plus in a new applet window.
This combination launches three windows: the original browser window (i.e. Discoverer Connections page), the new browser window containing the Discoverer image, and the JFrame window containing the Discoverer Plus applet.
pluspopup=false and framedisplaystyle=embedded launches Discoverer Plus in the current browser window.

How to hide discoverer connection page after opening discoverer plus?
Hi,
I invoke the following url in browser window 1 to open Oracle DIscoverer Plus.
I notice the browser window 1 will open a window (say i call it browser window 2) to display the Oracle Discoverer Plus application.
Once the Oracle Discoverer Plus java applet is fully loaded, the browser window 1 will show the Connect to Discoverer Plus page.
I wonder if we can configure not to show this page as my users might confuse to see a few existing connections listed there and in fact if possible, I don't want user to see the list of connections.
Anyway to get rid of the page?

However, you may be disappointed because according to this matrix: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/as_certification_r2_101202.html it does not look like Server 2008 is a supported platform. I would ask Oracle Support to be sure or perhaps someone from Oracle reading this will advise.
When you get there you need to read the license agreement and then check and click the I Accept button to indicate that you understand and are willing to abide by the agreement.
Assuming you get the all clear, when you get to the main downloads page if you want the full application server you want the first row, if you want just Discoverer Plus / Viewer you want the row entitled Business Intelligence. You then look across the row for your operating system and then download all of the files that begin with CD. In your case because you are looking for the Microsoft Server version you need the software from the first column headed Microsoft Windows. Incidentally, if you need Discoverer Administrator and / or Desktop then it is also in the Microsoft Windows column and it is called Tools CD.
After you have installed Plus / Viewer (they both install at the same time) you version will be 10.1.2.0.2. This is the base version. You then need to log into MetaLink and download the 10.1.2.3 patch followed by the latest cumulative patch. Discoverer Plus not wrapping column headers on print

I'm having issues with a new workbok I created and can't quite figure out how to fix it. I have columns with the Format Heading\Wrap words in cell set on. The columns wrap fine and display as expected in the Discoverer Plus workbook window, but they don't wrap on printing to pdf or a physical printer. They display in the upper left of the column and run to the right until they get cut-off by the next column on the right.

Formating URL for Discoverer plus returns an error
Hello I have been playing around with formatting the URL. In Viewer this is working great with have created one click extracts to excel. However when I try to just create a link to discoverer plus to startup the connections page also pops up. We would like just the discoverer plus app to popup not the connections page. This is with 9.0.4 version. I have tried adding the following
plus_popup=Fales&framedisplaystyle=embedded
option on the end but when I do although the connections page no longer shows up I get an error on startup. The error states there is a runtime error has occured. Line 0 Error:'Window.opener.connListPage' is null or not an object' The msgbox asked if I want to debug or not. If I choose no then plus opens fine. My string looks like below. Does anyone know what I am missing?
