Discoverer Viewer Configuration File
Hi,
There is a scenario where in, most of the users use Discoverer viewer reports from the same login ID, They do changes and save the Workbook. Now when a new user logins he see the changes saved by the previous user . Now we dont want to allow the users to save changes and want to change the config setting so that no user can do any changes.
As per my unerstanding, one way of doing so it by login to application server and Uncheck the preference check box and save the changes. Doing this the preference tab will not be visible to any user.
Want to know is there any other way by which preference tab can be Disabled but still can be seen on the right corner of the viewer page?
Or is there a way we can change the configuration setting in any of the config file of discoverer viewer so that users are not able to change the setting...
Discoverer version is 10g.
Thank You.

Anuj Malhotra
Hi Michael,
The Scenario is like, most of the users use Viewer only to access reports.
The main aim right now is to some how not allow users to change the settings whcih they change using the preference tab or presentation options.
I checked it the config document of Discoverer viewer and found:
The Steps to remove Preference tab or presentation options in Oracle Application Server Discoverer Configuration Guide
10g (9.0.4) are as follows:
1. Open the ui_config.xml file in a text editor or XML editor
2. Locate the <appearance> tag in the file
change the value of the display_preferences_link tag to false
change the value of the display_presentation_options_link tag to false
3. Save the ui_config.file
But I didnt not find the steps to remove the preference tab or presentation option using Configuration.xml file in Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Configuration Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1 ).
It was mentioned that to remove the presentation option in 10g version we need to login to Oracle Application server and uncheck the preference tab Option.
Want to know is that the only way of removing presentation options or preference tab from 10g Version or something can be done from configuration.xml file also.
Regards,
Anuj Malhotra.

Hi guys
This is Raj and working with MI and MAM in specefic. In order to map the cusotmer extended view files and standard view description files, do we need to create our own "view.configure" file because the war file does not have view.configure file.
Please advice
Thanks
RajHi Raj,
Yes, you will need to create your own <i>view.configure</i> file in the <i>/app-root/WEB-INF/</i> folder in your project. Don't worry mCAF will look for it by default. Also, if you have custom implementation create the <i>zcore.configure</i> file to map the interface classes to their implementations. Make sure to stick to this naming, as it is hard coded.

I need to open a custom report instead of using the "Analyze..." link of the report I put in my portal page.
I create a hidden link like this:
http://<server>:7780/discoverer/viewer?userName=<name>&password=<pwd>&databaseIdentifier=<connStr>&connectionLocale=browser_selected&connectionType=PRIV&autoconnect=yes&connectionAccessType=OLAP&wbk=<workbookname>&wsk=<worksheetname>
and it works.
There is a little and significant difference between this version and the "Analyze..." version: there are many links I don't want to see, like "Exit", "Help", the Worksheet list and so on.
Is there a possibility to configure the visualization of this page???
ThanksHi there,
It’s possible to remove the items you want and change the way Viewer looks.
There is two ways to go about this:
Firstly you could apply a change directly to the presentation file on the Server, which will change the look of Viewer no matter what workbook is opened, or
Secondly you could create a custom Presentation Template and use it in the URL to point it to your custom template.
All these things are done differently depending on what version of Discoverer you’re on. Have a look here for more documentation and Configuration Guides for Discoverer: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html or
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B10273_01/customiz.htm#1014029
This should give you a good place to start.

Hi,
I'm trying to customize the layout of discoverer viewer (10g) in OEM. Specifically, I'm trying to remove the 'send as email' option. I go to the customization tab, and select 'layout', then go to the action links, and uncheck 'send as email'. However nothing changes when I select preview or apply. the change will not take affect. Am I missing something?

Edited by: user11189447 on Aug 12, 2010 8:17 AMHi,
Checkout the below metalink from Oracle.
Hyperion Strategic Finance Will Not Connect Via SmartView (Doc ID 1561484.1)
Below Solution as per doc ---
1. Run the installation for the HSF Web Application component on the Foundation server where weblogic is for HSF Server.
(Be sure the HSF Web Application component is also installed on the the HSF Server, if separate from the Foundation server as well.)
2. Clean up any failed deployments in the WebLogic Console by deleting the HSFWeb Server from WL Admn
3. Configure the new component on Foundation (target server).
4. On OHS server run configtool and perform the WebServer config task to configure OHS for HSFweb

Error of access denied opening a workbook in discoverer viewer 10.1.2
When I open a workbook in discoverere viewer in the html page shows this message:
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer no ha encontrado los datos necesarios para mostrar los resultados de este evento. Corrija los errores y vuelva a intentarlo.
- access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission oracle.discoverer.connections)
However data seems correct, but I don't know how to delete this message.
Thanks,
CarlosHi Carlos,
Metalink has some information regarding what sounds like a solution to your problem under Doc Id : 265228.1. Have a read and let us know if this is for you and whether you get it working in a development environment.
Symptoms
Discoverer 10g (9.0.4) Plus and Viewer throws 'page cannot be displayed'
Other symptoms
A.) Discoverer Plus shows a file download dialog with virus warning "Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source,do not open or save the file."
Opening or cancelling will again throw "page cannot be displayed"
B.) Plus throws a blank page and Viewer throws 500 internal server error
Cause
Installation failure on configuring discoverer in OC4J_BI_Forms may caused the problem.
Using pre-production / beta code (M16b shiphome) will cause the problem.
Fix
1.) Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME(midtier)/j2ee/OC4J_BI_Forms/config/java2.policy
2.) Add the below lines at the end of the file
================================
grant codebase "file:${oracle.home}/discoverer/lib/discoverer5.jar" {
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "oracle.discoverer.connections";
grant codebase "file:${oracle.home}/j2ee/home/-" {
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "oracle.discoverer.connections";
grant codebase "file:${oracle.home}/portal/jlib/pdkjava.jar" {
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "oracle.discoverer.connections";
grant codebase "file:${oracle.home}/portal/jlib/ptlshare.jar" {
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "oracle.discoverer.connections";
===========================
3.) Restart OPMN.
4.) Invoke Discoverer Plus or Viewer.
Let us know how you get on.

Oracle9iAS v2 Discoverer Services Configuration Page
Hi, i am trying to change communication protocol in discoverer plus since i could not connect to it outside of firewall(inside firewall it works fine). In the documentation it says that i need to go to em site's Oracle9iAS Discoverer Services Configuration Page and change the default communication protocol.
But when i go that page i do not see the link to Discover plus. I could only see(General Discover,Discoverer Viewer, and discoverer portlet provider links.
How can i have a discoverer portlet link appear on the configuration page? Any help is appreciated.

Discoverer Viewer in mobile devices
Hi,
Is is possible to be shown Oracle Discoverer Viewer contents in mobile devices like iPad or iPhone?Hi,
I haven't tried this but I don't see why not. Disco Viewer is just HTML pages and if you need to you can configure the look and feel of the pages specifically for mobile devices by changing the UIX files.

Discoverer Viewer & Scheduled Workbooks
Is it possible to run a scheduled a workbook and view the results in Discoverer Viewer?
Hi Tim
Well just the way the file is put together, like is it using SID= or SERVER=, does it use SERVER=DEDICATED, do you have one ADDRESS= or multiple?
To make sure everything is right, rename both TNSNAMES and SQLNET.ORA files, then suse Net Configuration Assistant to set up a connection. Then compare that with what you have already and make the necessary changes.
I also noticed that Russ has made a posting concerning a similar error. You should take a look. Its either in here on the Discoverer forum.
Best wishes

Error trying to open Discoverer Viewer/Plus
HI,
The following error occurred: "OracleBI Discoverer has not been started or has been stopped. Discoverer was stopped by your Administrator."
Has anyone had the same problem? We are currently on version 10.1.2.54.25 of Discoverer and 10.1.2.2 of AS (Win2000 server). I did find a document (Bug.4457706) on MetaLink for an earlier version and I verified that start = true in the configuration.xml file. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I also noticed that a java.exe process was consuming 100% of the CPU on the server during the same time. Tho, it may be totally unrelated to the Discoverer problem. I have examined most of the log files and can not find anything of relevance yet.
I checked opmnctl status at the time of the problem and everything was up.
Thanks
DianeHi,
Contact the Administrator of Oracle Application Server. He has the possibility ton stop Discoverer Viewer and Plus -
According to chapter 10 in "Oracle Discoverer Configuration Guide (version 9.0.2)" you can customize Discoverer Viewer in mainly to ways:
1. By editing blaf.css.
2. By editing ui_config.xml
In ui_config.xml you can create presentation templates which can be selected in Viewer via "Presentation Options".
How can we make one of the templates the default template for our Discoverer sessions? We want the users to meet a standardized user interface when opening workbooks from a Portal list of workbooks portlet.I'm having a similar problem, only the default logo never
changes to the one I've specified. I'm looking for a way to turn
OFF the default completely without having to maually changing
the disco_logo.gif file or any of the other gif's. I'm disgusted
by the "customizable" nature of this product. -
Absolute URLs in Discoverer viewer
I'd like to put a front end-proxy in front of discoverer viewer so that a request went e.g.,
Web PC -----> Proxy, port 80 ----> Discoverer port 7782
I can get the request in just fine, the problem is that within the pages returned by discoverer it hard-codes URLs with port 7782 in them so if the user clicks a link then it goes to the wrong place.
Is it possible to serve discovered out of port 7782, but have either relative URLs or set the served URL to port 80?
Cheers,
Dave.Seems like all HTML generated by Discoverer Viewer (in 9iAS 10222) is based on XML file $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/htdocs/disco4iv/html/viewer_config.xml. About halfway down is a <configuration> tag with an attribute that lets you change the base href for generated pages. Maybe this will help.

Chrome - Adobe-Acrobat/Reader can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.
I can't view PDF files via Chrome (it works on Internet Explorer but I prefer Chrome) - the error below has arisen recently on Chrome, though I can't see what has changed.
"Acrobat plug-in
The Adobe-Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
I have looked through Forum articles on similar errors and have tried the following(text copied from other Forum entries)
Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Acrobat)
Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Control Panel
Configure Acrobat as a helper application: Choose Edit > Preferences., Select Internet on the left., Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.Quit Acrobat or Reader
Create a registry item for Acrobat: with Regedit: If the registry item doesn't exist on the system, do the following: Go to Edit > New > Key and create the missing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe.Go to Edit > New > String Value and name this key (Default).Select (Default), and then go to Edit > Modify. Type the Adobe Acrobat path in the "Value data" for your product.,restart your computer
Repair the HKCR\AcroExch.Document registry key: Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document., Right-click AcroExch.Document and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts, Right-click AcroExch.Document.7 and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts. Repair your Acrobat installation
None has solved the problem. However it still works ok with IE. But I want to stick with Chrome because I find IE is so slow!
I am using Vista, with Adobe Acrobat standard 9.5.2 and Google Chrome version 23.0.1271.64 m which is marked on Chrome as 'up to date'
Does anyone know why I might be getting this error on Chrome but not IE?I think I have discovered the answer to my own question!
I have disabled Adobe Reader plug-in, and can now see PDFs in Chrome.
(Steps: Chrome Menu, Settings option, Click Advanced Settings link, then Content Settings button, then select Disable Individual Plug-Ins, and a list of plug-ins is offered to enable or disable).
I then get a different result depending on whether or not Chrome PDF viewer is enabled - with it enabled I see the PDF document in Chrome, or with it disabled then the option is offered to download it, but either way I can get it it via Chrome without having to run Internet explorer in another browser window.
