Discoverer viewer -- export to pdf doesn't retain page settings.

Hi,
The report output in discoverer viewer is much different from that of plus. I am concerned abt the report headers. In discoverer plus, the headers are left, center and right aligned.
But in viewer, every thing is aligned center. How can I get the report o/p (same as that of plus) in viewer??
Thanks

Hi there
did you fix it in Viewer?
I am also getting the same issue, I have made my page setting in Discoverer Plus , when I go use Discoverer Viewer use the Printable page to get the PDF file, the layout does not shows the same page settings what I did in Discoverer Plus.
Thanks

  • Export to PDF doesn't retain page settings

Create a report with lots of columns and then change the page settings to be landscape and shrink to fit. Now run the report and print the report as a PDF. It works as expected.
Now export this same report as a PDF. The export will not retain the page settings. Instead, it will export the PDF in portrait and it will not shrink to fit.
If you email the report to someone, it also doesn't retain the page settings.
I opened a TAR on this issue and I was told this was not a current feature of Discoverer. Exporting does not retain page settings by design and it would be an enhancement request to get this new functionality.
We build a lot of custom Oracle Reports right now so that users can drill from one level to another. With OracleBI Discoverer, I can now do this with linking to sheets. With Oracle Reports, I can render the report in PDF format which is a business requirement. With OracleBI Discoverer, I can do this too except I can't export the PDF because it doesn't fit on the page correctly.
    Anyone else need this functionality?
On another "enhancement request" note, I would like to be able to schedule exports. OracleBI Discoverer is getting close to providing an alternative to Oracle Reports which is great because it is faster to build and deploy reports and it is licensed by the CPU so I don't have to worry about buying Report Builder licenses. Lastly, business users can build their own reports rather than someone in IT doing it.

ok, here's what I have found out (thanks to our Viewer guru, Matthew):
The print/PDF preferences are currently not saved, so you are right when you say you have to re-apply those settings.
However, there is a way to persist these changes within a session (note that since these changes are session-resident only, you will lose them once you exit Viewer).
The short one line explanation of the workaround is to make the changes using the 'Printable Page' link, generate a 'Preview' or the entire PDF report, and then use the worksheet breadcrumb link to return to the worksheet. This ensures that the PDF changes you made are available during the sesion to the worksheet. You can always undo these settings by clicking the 'Revert to saved' link.
I have posted the same information, but with screenshots, to http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/12/pdf-settings-in-viewer.html

  • Doesn't retain any settings

My Safari 3 Beta (S3b) doesn't retain any settings... homepage, window size, bookmarks, tab settings (anything in the preferences for that matter) when I close and reopen S3b. I posted a bug report, but anyone have any ideas here?
    Joe Mac
    WinXP SP2

fairly experimental advice, since i've only had the puppy installed on belladonna for a few ... hours, it would be still ...
... but let's check to see if this is an issue with damaged preference files.
    Quit Safari.
in XP, the Safari preference files live in the following two locations:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
You might have to turn on "Show hidden files and folders" to find the preference folders (Application Data and Local Settings are "hidden" folders). Right-click "My Computer", select "Open", go "Tools > Folder Options". Click the "View" tab. The "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.
("username" here is the name of the user account on the PC that you're getting this problem in. for example, on belladonna "username" = "owner".)
drag those two folders to the desktop, and then try launching Safari again. (that should rebuild your preference folders.)
do changes to your preferences "stick" now, with fresh preference folders in place?

  • Photo Downloader doesn't retain previous settings (again)

Please see previous post because this issue involves Photo Downloader and ACR.
    I'm using 10.6.8, CS5.1 and Bridge 4.1.0.54
I have just reloaded Camera Raw 6.4.1 due to the bug in ACR 6.5 that prevents selecting a destination folder in Photo Downloader and causing  Bridge to freeze.
6.4.1 solves the freeze problem, but now it's back to the problem that none of the settings in Advanced Dialog are retained, nor does Photo Downloader default to Advanced Dialog anymore.  I've added the CS5 folder as before (User/Library/Application Support/Adobe) alongside the existing CS5.1 folder, but it hasn't solved the problem.  Is there a new solution to this yet?
6.4.1 works fine on my MBP using the above workaround (CS5 folder added).  Because I now have a dozen new student iMacs to set up, my three-part second question is: has ACR 6.6 been tested for these two bugs; should I wait before setting up the iMacs; how long before ACR 6.6 is officially released?

Thanks Omke.  I¹ll try that next time I¹m in the lab.  However, on my
MacBook Pro I checked the CS5.1 folder, and there is no ³APDPreferences.xml²
in that location (it is there in CS5 folder but I couldn¹t open it).  On the
iMacs, I¹m only running CS5.1.  Is there a different location for it in
    CS5.1?
I¹m wondering if I¹m the only one running Mac OS 10.6.8, Bridge 4.1.0.54 and
ACR 6.5 who¹s having this problem?

      It¹s baffling,
That is to put it mildly you mean, can't imagine that is the only word that
came to your mind...   Have you tried to repair permissions for OSX
again? I don't have the 5.5 installed so can't compare but if one system
does work, another not and you have compared both files and folders
existence in the two systems  it does seem to be OS related to me? There is
    also a file called "APDPreferences.xml" (user/library/Application Support/
Adobe/Bridge CS5) Can you open the files on both systems and compare the
content, it contains the settings made in advanced dialog.

  • Export to Pdf Not Working - Blank Pages [Solved]

    Peace all!
I've been having this problem about some time now. Any export to pdf produces a pdf with the correct number of pages but they are all blank! Tried fiddling with the options to no avail. Also tried setting the options to use openoffice dialogs.
In an attempt to try to find some log of errors, I started writer from the console with soffice -writer and used the export pdf function but no errors are spitted out. I'm stumped...
    Version 3.0.1
    Thanks in advance!l

Ok, I managed to solve this by deleting the old .openoffice config folder and starting afresh. Not sure what's messed up though but the folder has been used since OO version 2.

  • My font changes when I export to pdf, not on every page but only a few pages

I am using the font Helvetica, light in my iBook.  It looks the same on every page in iBooks Author, but when I export it to PDF some of the pages look like they are written with font Helvetica bold.  Can anyone suggest a fix?  Thank you

A number of threads dealing with issue have been posted over the past two weeks or so, I suggest a search may help you and also check out the More Like This column on the right.

  • When exporting to PDF the words One-Pager shows up in the name

    Hello,
Occasionally, I have an InDesign file, that when I export for PDF, it adds the following to the beginning of its name "(one-pager)". Does anyone know why this happens or where it is coming from?
    thanks
    barbraa

More than likely someone added that to the export filename the first time it was invoked, then saved the ID file.
By default the PDF has the same name as the ID file, but if you change it, then save (or save after exporting, and subsequently rename the ID file), the name you used is burned into the file data and becomes the default.

  • Every time I close FF it reverts to new install settings and doesn't retain any settings, I have uninstalled & reinstalled but no change - help

I installed FF and used it without issue, but on loading it for me next session and every subsequent session it reverts to the state it was as a new install including not retaining any settings for loaded extensions. This is a total pain and is likely to lead me to uninstalling if I cannot find a fix soon. I have uninstalled and re-installed and tried re-set but neither has made any difference.

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

  • Export book to PDF doesn't remember previous settings - CS5

I've just noted a somewhat annoying "bug" in the book export.  When I export book to PDF--which I do a lot--I have to rename the file and reselect the type of PDF I'm exporting every time. It should remember the last settings I used.I believe in the past that it did.
I also really hate that it always defaults to the interactive PDF--which I will probably never use. Half the time I forget to check that setting, rename the file, click OK, and then have to cancel and go through all the steps again because I forgot that the stupid thing can't remember that I want a Print PDF.  I have gone through this annoying misbehavior several times in just the last few minutes. Add that up over all the hours that I work on books and do that export and we're talking about a huge time waster. Am I missing a way to set a defaullt here?

The book export or the regular export?  Mine definitely always goes back to interactive PDF.  Even after I've saved a print PDF several times.  It's really annoying.

  • Discoverer Viewer Export

Before upgrade 10G we were able to export as csv and then import into access 97, now we are getting extra carriage returns and line feeds which is causing the import to access 97 to fail. Any suggestions on what could be causing this. We use both Viewer and Plus and are having the same issues in both. We have upgraded and applied all patches and our users are getting very frustrated.

I would log a service request with Oracle support on this and see what they say. I have no problems outputting to excel, but then I am exporting as .xls, and I am not trying to then take the excel file into access. Have you tried exporting as .xls type, then saving to .csv, and then trying to load into Access? Why are the users trying to load into Access by the way? Maybe need to see if there is a better process to handle the business need than what is being done right now. I am guessing that not a lot of people try to take something exported from Excel eventually into Access, so may not get a lot of help from this forum, but I could be wrong to think that.

  • Discoverer viewer export option

    Hi All,
When i am using the export to reports XML format option i am getting error that is due to some cross tab error.
Help me out to overcome this error.

Custom formatting from Disco does not appear in Excel. I always forget whether Disco does not export the formats, or if Excel ignores them (or both).
I think there are a few other threads where people have exported to HTML, imported the HTML into Excel, and had the formatting preserved.

  • Downloader doesn't retain previous settings

Can Bridge Downloader be set to always open with the advanced dialog box and can it be set to retain the previous settings?  Also, is there a Preferences for the Downloader?  I can see it listed in the menu, but it's ghosted.
It would be a real time-saver if I didn't have to re-enter all the info each time I open the Downloader -- and then start all over again because I missed something and it downloads to the wrong drive/folder or creates dated folders when I don't want them or doesn't enter copyright info in metadata... you get the idea.
Thanks for any help with this.

it doesn't increase my faith in Adobe software when following their procedure that I'd also have to search the system to purge it manually.  It begs the question: why did I use the latest Adobe un-installer and the latest Adobe Cleaner
That's an understandable question and I have no certain answer for that, I'm only a user, not a technician
But I like to think that in normal ways an uninstall keeps certain files like settings and cache as it is so you won't have to go through that work again when installing upgrades. Further guessing is that the clean tool does get rid of the hidden and/or invisible preference files but not the cache, hence my suggestion to check anyway.
it's annoying that the Rotate tools were moved off the toolbars,
They are not, you just haven't selected the 'path bar' option under the menu window, put a check mark in front of it in the menu Window and they are there with other useful tool icons. Aside from that Bridge stills keeps deselecting the path bar every now and then. But my hopes for CS6 on resolving that item are high.
and having the Favourites and Folders under separate tiny icons is equally irritating and mousey.
You are right, they are tiny but you can design your own lay out. I have both under each other in one column with a very short favorites panel and a very long folder panel. Grab a folder tab and drag it. You will see there will appear blue lines surrounding the panel. You have three columns to work with, one bleu line (either vertical or horizontal) appears at the position were you can drop the selected panel in it's new lay out. A surrounding blue line means nesting in a panel with multiple tabs. In the beginning this is a bit tricky but you will get used to that. When your happy with the customized lay out save it as a new workspace. Plenty of options!
In PS 12.x, the implementation of the Adjustment Layers panel is also beyond belief!
This sounds as you don't like it while others (me included) are very very happy with it! You just have to get used to different ways of working, once tried a while and getting used to it you don't want to go back, trust me (besides, the shortcuts for adjustment layers still work to my knowledge and if not you can assign them yourself in a custom menu setting).
The problem with not upgrading to any new cycle is that the differences with prior version can get huge. It should so because software needs development and users need to get used to it. I can't tell you how often I have changed my workflow due to new methods (and knowledge) and the majority of this changes have brought me great benefit

  • Sound Control Panel doesn't retain output settings.

Since updating to 10.6.2, I've discovered that, after starting up or a reboot, the output settings revert to "Internal Speakers/Built-in Output." This is a pain, since I rely on a external speaker system (and so use the "Line Out/Built-in Line Output" setting).
I have tried resetting PRAM and re-installing 10.6.2 using the Combo updater, all to no avail.
Has anyone experienced this and/or solved it?
    Many thanks in advance.

delete all files in /Library/preferences/audio (that's the Library at the top level of the hard drive) and restart. sound settings should retain on restarts after that.

  • Doesn't retain bios settings?

My 875P Neo tends to reset the CMOS settings randomly, about once or twice every other week, or whenever I'm making changes to the hardware. This is happening on two separate 875Ps, so I don't think it's the lithium battery, though I have not tried replacing it. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a solution?

I have got the same issue, however in my case the BIOS does not completely reset; only CPU clock en memory timings are reset a few times each month.
    It's not a battery-issue for sure.
I have never noticed a failed reboot however...
Would this be a different problem from yours?

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...
    Manish

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.
